By the Fireplace vs Woody Chestnut: What You Need to Know By the Fireplace is my signature scent (among a couple others) and I’ve been using it since it debuted in 2015. Fireplace’s smoke flirts with small gusts and lightly whips at you with grounding warmth of earth from sweet and fragrant wood. It has velvet-like quality while wet that dries to reveal the perfume’s deepness and smooth leather texture (though a fairly linear scent). In this deepness, a sweet softened wet wood quality lays with vanillic musk and softness that is spicy and faintly sweet. Dossier’s is missing this sweet smoke, and the smokiness isn’t as strong. However, this isn’t a detriment. Many will appreciate that the smoke is not so thick. The smoke could be from a campfire, but it is not from a fireplace. Dossier’s is drier, but not in a bitter or sharp way. Fresh woodchips accompany the fragrance. This clearness evokes invigoration, and more breathability. Dossier’s has healthy outdoor air surrounding the fire that warms it. Fireplace is warming nicely upholstered furniture, and shortbread cookies and nuts are out for snacks. Replica has the windows shut as to keep the cold blizzard air away from the comforts of inside the house. This extra cozy effect can cause me headaches. With Woody Chestnut, I don’t worry about this. Dossier has managed to not only make a successful impression, but practically invent a flanker of By the Fireplace that bridges the spring and summer months. Woody Chestnut also projects more and lasts longer strength wise. Notes on the CLOVES from a clove lover! I LOVE clove and it’s amazing on my skin. The clove in this is beautiful alone, and it is supported by the chestnuts. This is one of my favorite fragrances because it is clove without cinnamon. It also has palo santo. Clove is a note for every season and temperature. To me, it’s the most amazing spice. I feel like clove is closely associated with Christmas time or winter in the perfume world. People will be better to learn that clove is utilized beyond this, and that plenty of people around the world know clove in a different way. With that said, Fireplace does lean into Fall and Winter. Woody Chestnut is better for the year-round wearer. However, I still have a year-round fresh-spicy clove and wood fragrance to find/try.

I have it, I love it - in cool or cold weather. When I smell it next to the OG, they smell so similar, yet when I wear this one I always think “there’s just something different from the original”. Maybe it’s a hair sweeter? Maybe a tad less smokey? This is the only fragrance I have ever heard my father comment on... ever, and my mother wore perfume. My father is an outdoors guy - hunting, camping, hiking, etc. Camp fires and wood stoves have always been a part of his life, a good part with lots of great memories. The first time I wore this (the Dossier version), my father was around and stopped in his tracks, wide eyed, and exclaimed: “wow, what is that?!”. He absolutely loved it. So I’d say the creators of Replica’s BTFP, and the team that did Dossier’s version, succeeded it their goals. It’s a great scent, I don’t feel I would need the original if I didn’t already have it.

I LOVE this fragrance, I got a tester for the MM By the fireplace and couldn’t afford that at the time so I looked for a dupe, this did not disappoint. I would say the DNA is 90% , a little creamier than by the fireplace. I layer this with YSL Black Opium Le Parfum for date night, or Burberry Goddess during the day, it’s just such a beautiful, cosy fragrance. Projection is moderate, but honestly I wear this for me 😇

LOVE it! So yummy, and the sillage is incredible. Leans a little more gender neutral, but the pink pepper brings it towards the feminine side. My most reached for autumn fragrance and the most long-lasting by far. Literally, you can't beat the price, and it also does not smell cheap like some more affordable fragrances tend to do.

I really enjoy this fragrance on its own, autumn and winter, day or night, particularly on cold frosty mornings! it is smoky and cozy and absolutely unisex. I also enjoy its layering abilities, it’s great at adding a layer of smokiness to cherry and vanilla fragrances, and many more I’m sure. Good job on another Dossier! 👏
