Woody Sandalwood

Ooh, so this is *very* unique to my...admittedly, rather uncultured...nose. I live in the south, and this scent profile never caught on in the small town I’m from. Fancy people down here wear Bath and Body Works. I have never smelled anything like this. So it was quite an experience, smelling this for the first time at the local “Wal-Mark.” (As in, “Hey, I’m fixin’ to go on down to The Wal-Mark, y’all need anything?”) Needless to say, I’m not familiar with the original Le Labo fragrance. 🤣 At first, I was a bit repulsed. “This doesn’t smell like a perfume,” I thought. “It smells like something you’d cook with. Hell, it kinda smells like Home Depot...gross...” *takes another sniff anyway*... ...*ends up buying the whole bottle* Fast-forward a few weeks - now I love it and find myself craving it. It’s such a natural, herbal scent. Completely unisex. And to be honest, I’ve always loved the smell of Home Depot. The longevity is great, maybe 6-8 hours on skin? It projects nicely, too, so I’d be cautious about over spraying. This scent makes me feel super chic and cool. Also like a free-spirited Bohemian type who wears turquoise jewelry and practices reiki. I’m into it. 🤷 Disclaimer: I did smell the pickle note at first, but after letting the bottle sit for several weeks, it seems to have disappeared. 👍

Bought this because my bottle of Santal 33 is almost empty and I don’t plan to spend that kind of coin again with how it performed on me (I could smell it for 30mins tops before I went noseblind/my body chemistry ate it). Thing is, I love the S33 scent profile and I gotta say this is a pretty good dupe. It’s not perfect, but nobody expects that at this price point, but it IS wonderful. First spray is very close to the “inspiration”, it dries a bit more paper-y/woodchip-y on my skin which I don’t mind, and which Santal 33 also sometimes does, then as it continues it warms up very gently and sits quite close to the skin but I could not stop smelling my arm. So glad to have found an incredibly similar scent profile (I’d say 90-95%) and be able to actually smell it too. It is also very similar to Molinard’s Santal Insolent which also has that dry paper/woodchip quality to it. It also smells almost the same as sandalwood oil I purchased at a perfumery in Florence (not certain how pure that was but it smells so cold and green and spa like/meditative to me). Bravo Dossier! Woody Sandalwood by Dossier is a love-at-first-sniff for me. It instantly made me think of Book by Commodity BUT this is the desert sister. Disclaimer, I only smelled Book from a sample I got years and years ago. If that version is discontinued or reformulated, I don't know what the new version smells like. I'm not knowledgeable about perfume notes but I can paint two distinct pictures for you. This fragrance makes me think of being in a desert for a relaxing spa experience. And, I also picture a New Mexico desert but it just finished raining. The opening is surprisingly fresh and green with something zingy (makes me think of ginger even though there's no ginger here), and it dries down to something woody and musky with subtle sweetness. Similar to rain water quickly drying up on desert land, and yellowed plants briefly turning green again. Very unisex. I can't smell any pickles, but your experience may vary.

I bought this one a year ago, and was initially so almost horrified by the intense vegetal green woodshop blast, but have grown to absolutely love it, so much so that I also have the Dossier diffuser in this scent, and am going to be ordering it again. It is such an elegant, rich, comforting scent. It feels luxurious. I love Dossier's Orchid and Sandalwood at Dusk as well, one of their original scents, which definitely has echoes of this one. They have several Le Labo dupes, Citrus Tea, Floral Rose, and Citrus Matcha, in addition to this one, and I've enjoyed all of them. I could not afford the original fragrances, so this is such a fantastic way to experience a similar vibe! I am so interested in how our noses evolve in our interest and appreciation for fragrance. I have grown to really enjoy this scent profile so much, and the longevity and silage in this fragrance are just excellent. Highly recommend.

I grew up catholic, and thus spent a good chunk of my childhood attending mass. I no longer consider myself a practicing catholic (I like to say I’m “culturally catholic”), but I’m still drawn to a lot of the aesthetics of catholic cathedrals. all this to say, this scent really reminds me of the smell of incense and wood when you enter a church. it’s deep (though not as deep as the Le Labo scent this one is inspired by, apparently) and august. even the sour note accentuates the whole experience. this thing lasts forever. it will last a full day on my skin, that’s not even mentioning how long it lasts on clothes. I will parrot the proverbial sentiment regarding dossier, which is that their scents tend to be linear. this one is no exception, which isn’t to say it’s a bad thing, but you won’t get any surprises. this is a good one to add to your collection if you don’t want to pony-up for the original.

I've smelled santal33 many times, and though i don't have it myself to compare directly they are very similar if not identical in memory. its a good replacement. i will say the initial spray is very pungent, but that the sour dry hay-ish smell fades to a sweeter and creamier version on the body. i hate sweet smells and most florals and this is a very bitter astringent scent. it is a creamy outdoor smell, like a silky animal that spends all its time running around in dry grass and rolling over rocks. ive seen a lot of reviews saying it smells like dill cucumbers, but that's a stretch. dont be scared. I've had it two days and have received many compliments. it smells like Grendel's mother, or how a sphinx would smell, like a dusty woman. love love love. if you like patchouli or burn a lot of incense you will probably like it, it reads stuffy and condensed the way incense does to me.

Really nice, outstanding performance. I was never into the Santal 33 DNA until I tried this on a whim, at Target of all places. Opens like Santal 33, I don't get the strange dill pickle notes that can be prevalent in some cheap sandalwood perfumes. The opening is a bit sharp, and has a subtle medicinal astringent property. The dry down on this one is where the magic happens. It opens up quite a bit and those tangy top notes fade and a rich guaiac wood like smokiness emerges on my skin. It gets sweet and a bit ambery, really nice. I've tried a few other Santal 33 dupes and was always left unimpressed until now. Grabbed a full bottle. It is very linear on cloth, I only get that development on my skin. I get over 3 hours and really good projection in the first 3, skin scent last 3 or so. This one played better on the end of summer than it does in the winter for me for some reason.

I purchased a sample of the real L3 L@b0 scent, it was heavenly. Lasted forever, very rich. Wildly expensive. Tried Dossier, and it's not *quite* as deep or rich, but DANG for $49, it's really all I need. I'm a fan of this outfit. There are several classics that I've thought--this is lovely, but do I **need** it so **very** much that I will part with a car payment (or two!) to get it? Dossier makes that decision easy. Their formulations may not be exact. It makes some fragrances less lasting, but there are other pros. For example, when I sample G00d G1rl in a store, it is fabulous out of the bottle, but on me, in about twenty minutes, it doesn't smell all that great. I tried Dossier's Fruity Almond, and it's just lovely, for hours. Your mileage may vary. But that mileage is a lot less costly with this producer.

This smells like: Sipping a fancy mojito, getting the hits of lime, salt, cucumber as you stir In an old wooden library, flipping through an old book. Has a softness that Santal 33 does not, imo. My friend the empty bottle of this in her room and I asked to smell and was so taken away I told her I was going to go home and get it, and I went home and got two and have been using it every single day since. Such a clean scent that reads as fresh skin on my body and not perfume at all! People compliment me all the time, it's interesting without being loud like Baccarat or something.

On me this reads very violet forward, the sandalwood is so well done. Some woody fragrances can be almost too much pine and wood, and not enough going on outside of it. Again, i smell lots of Orris in this as well. I bought this as the Le Labo dupe, and i’m very happy with this purchase. I feel like layering this one, or just on its own is a unique and head turning experience. I love that this feels a little spicy, which in turn to me, makes this so grounded. Very comforting. For a more unisex scent, it’s oddly feminine, which again just makes this such a *chefs kiss*

If you think Dossier does 1:1 dupes, you're clearly on the wrong side of the fence, this impressions are good for the price when brought in bundle, the more the less you pay for each bottle, in my case I grab 6 50ml bottles last year with this one included, and right now im about 2/3 of the bottle, gotta say the more time spent with the scent the more I like it, as for now they are running a sale and im waiting for 8 bottles, this one is good grabbing it at 25/30 dlls, thank me later.

Much sweeter than Le Monde’s Santal Supreme. The violet note is distinctly floral in this blend to me and I enjoy that alot, keeps it out of pickle territory but its not as woodsy as one might assume. Very herbal. The cardamon and cypress oil together give me mint leaves or stems maybe. Such a pleasant surprise, I haven’t liked most popular sandalwood fragrances but this is a gem. My partner had it gifted for Christmas and I’m excited to buy one for my mom who loves Santal frags.

Wow and Holy Shit!! I own S33 and this is one of those excellent dupes that make me wanna try Dossiers other offering because they knocked this one out of the park. You might not like this one but you may not like the original one either, so try before you buy. I even get that slight smell of pickles that I get from the original, how cool is that.

Got this on clearance for 13 dollars at Walmart and omg?? Ive already used like a quarter of this. It’s so luxurious, mature, warm woodsy and comforting without being too gourmand sweet. I don’t get powder. I don’t get pine-sol. I don’t get pickle. Lol. Just some warm woods with emphasis on the amber and cardamom. And it projects!!

If someone asked me, “how would you describe the smell of Christmas(if it had a scent)?” This would be it. I can smell a fresh cut tree, with a hint of violet. I don’t smell any pickles or cucumbers, I don’t smell any amber either. It is a bit powdery due to the sandalwood am guessing, but fresh fresh fresh cut pine tree ❤️ 🎄

Phenomenal. I feel like i just bought this a month ago and it's already almost gone. It's hard to do anything besides just sit, spray this all over myself and sniff it all fucking day. If you like woodsy fragrances, buy this

I bought this before ever smelling Santal 33 and who cares! I loved this fragrance, it's so fresh and works for most occasions IMO. However my friend's ex also wore it so I'm moving on to something new

So I just got this today. First spray you get the violet and cedar then sandalwood. I’ve not been fortunate enough to smell S33. However this to me smells really good!

Okay so over 16 hours later and this is still projecting off me. Wife asked if I resprayed it. This stuff is great for the price.

I just bought this for my 78 year old hippy, trippy, crunchy, granola, tree hugging, recently turned into a patriot (could have knocked me over with a feather when I noticed he lost a bunch of his liberal friends on Facebook whom had left him nasty comments and ditched him) brother. He lives in Hawaii for over 50 years, married, had a son (who is a 48 year old former professional surfer) and divorced (when his hippy wife decided she preferred the life a wealthy Air Force Colonel who could give her all that my brother couldn't...needless to say I dont like her as she left my brother with their 12 year old son to raise on his own). Did I mention he resembles Fabio with his long flowing hair and looks a man half his age? He rides a bike everywhere, doesnt eat red meat, but wears leather shoes and carries a leather satchel as his "briefcase" to business meetings (still dont get that part?). Way back when I was a teen and he moved to Hawaii, all he wore as fragrance was patchouli oil, surprise, surprise! A couple of years ago I went to visit him and he fell in love with one of the fragrances I was wearing, Zum Frankenchence & Myrrh. I gave him my bottle and have been sending him one every couple months ever since in one of the many "care packages" I send when I discover something new whether it be a supplement, snack, Jamaiican Black Castor Oil for his skin and hair (fyi: JBCO is a "cure all" especially for fungus under finger and toenails...a miracle oil!) or fragrance. He mentioned to me that he started wearing sandalwood (Palo Santo) beaded bracelets on his wrists to help with the beginnings of arthritis (an affliction all us kids inherited from our mother. And btw, I wear Baltic amber like my Russian mother did for her arthritis). I really think (and hope) he loves this fragrance since he's been raving about the subtle scent his sandalwood bracelets omit. I will update as soon as I receive this and mail to bro in his April 2024 care package.

I bought this because I'm obsessed with Santal 33, but unfortunately my husband didn't like it on me at all. I decided if I can only wear it for me when he's not around, I wouldn't justify the cost. I tried a couple other santal dupes but I think I like this one the best. Here's my side by side comparison. The opening notes are similar, but while I would describe santal 33 as bright, I would describe Woody Sandalwood as sharp. The sour note that many people describe as pickles is significantly less in the Woody Sandalwood, which I'm disappointed about. But if you didn't like that note, you might give this one a try. To me, without the sour note, the overall fragrance is less clean, a little more cloudy. After the sharp opening you get the leather scent. While Santal 33 gives me exactly the smell of walking into a leather goods store, Woody Sandalwood is more like sticking your nose in a leather purse in your own house. Still leather, but missing the atmosphere of a room full of brand new leather. Less clean. For me Santal 33 finishes clean and sour and disappears from my skin within 2 hours. Woody Sandalwood hangs on for much longer with a clean warm skin scent, or maybe a somewhat generic perfume scent. Woody Sandalwood lasts a lot longer and projects further than Santal 33. I don't know if it 100% scratches the itch, but I'm going to give it a longer trial and then decide if I'll get a bottle of Santal 33 for my birthday.

i really like this, and this is the first dossier perfume i’ve tried. it’s a nice, spicy and woody sandalwood scent. i do find that it mellows out quite a bit in the dry down. however, it’s not quite as complex or comforting as t7v’s santal vanille, which is absolutely divine to me. this one is still very nice, dont get me wrong, but it’s hard to reach for it when i know i have other sandalwood/santal scents that i like more. i havent smelled santal 33, so i’m not sure how closely this replicates that. i will say, because of the simpler scent profile i get from this, i love layering this with other fragrances.

The Dossier line has been on display/available to sample at my local Target, so I tried this one today. One spray on the hand. Count me impressed. A pleasant sandalwood scent with a hint of sweetness from the cardamom and iris, Woody Sandalwood is a pretty good clone of Santal 33. The sour woody pickle note fades in the first few minutes. What's so impressive, however, is the performance--this thing lasts! Sillage is average, but one spray seven hours ago (and after a shower) is still detectable. Tempted to snag a bottle.

Woody, ozonic, and powdery. I like it and wood wear this, but I’ve got so many other fragrances that I like better. On me this projects about 6 inches. It’s completely unisex, inoffensive, and smells nice. I can see someone really liking this. But given the price for only 50 mL, and the lack of projection I’m rating it 7.5/10.

SHOUT OUT TO HER, MS WOODY SANALWOOD!!! My friend wore this for a year straight and then offered me the bottle because she wanted to try something new. To me this is a very green, soft fragrance, with wood only underneath. I think this is really pretty and fresh, and she's affordable!!!

Very nice fragrance tbh not that accurate of a dupe of Santal 33 however I lowkey prefer this as it doesn’t have that pickle smell and it feels a lot more ozonic. I love the more pine wood vibe you get from this too and longevity and sillage are also pretty good.

Not gonna lie, this one is so sharp and dry I feel like it could give me a nose-bleed! The opening and middle are rlly sharp with the cardamom and cedar, then 4-6 hours later it smooths out with a really delicious sandalwood. Lasts about 8-10 hours on my skin.

THIS is a very good dupe of Santal 33, which I do have. Not exact, but close. It fades faster than the original but it's a lot cheaper. I would recommend this one if you're looking for a dupe. The best one I've found.

🥒I didn't get the pickle smell, but pickles are cucumbers first and I definitely detected cucumber! 🐹At first the clean hampster cage rang a bell for me, too. I liked it best after about 6 hours of wear.

IMO it's not a very close dupe to Santal 33, much sharper, but it's nice

I don’t find this similar to Santal 33 at all. While I usually enjoy sandalwood, this isn’t the smooth, sweet, creamy sandalwood I'm used to. Instead, it comes across dry, sharp, and very literal. The comparisons to fresh animal bedding and the wood aisle at Home Depot are pretty accurate. My father used to work at Ponderosa and the American Gypsum plant, and this genuinely reminds me of the smell of sawdust. Almost like that industrial, sawdust scent turned into a fragrance. That said, it’s not unpleasant. It works as a simple, grab-and-go scent for men. It's clean, but not in a fresh “blue” cologne way. It feels more like a men's classic bar soap, understated rather than bold or cologne-heavy. Performance is light with modest longevity, and I think overspraying would quickly become off-putting. Two or three sprays is plenty. Not something I’d repurchase, but I also wouldn’t mind smelling it on a man as a casual scent. 4/10 Sillage 4/10 Longevity 5/10

I have not tried santal 33, so I can’t compare the two, but if you like woody fragrances that aren’t too in-your-face and last FORever, this is a great one! It’s not necessarily my cup of tea, but it is a nice smell, it weirdly reminds me of the walking into a shoe store. It’s woody and Powderly on opening, and the fragrance is very linear on me. I could see this being a nice fall scent, and it’s also very unisex. As for longevity, on my skin, this lasts ALL day long, so again, if you like this kind of fragrance then it’s a great bargain. It’s not too sharp to my nose and doesn’t have the synthetic smell that some sandalwoods leave on me. I wouldn’t buy it, but it’s definitely nice!

My coworker wore this dupe and smelled incredible, so (like the little copycat I am) I also bought one. I remember loving for the first few months of wear - though my partner did not feel the same way about it (he hates it). I'm not sure if it's aged poorly, or if I've just grown tired of it, but I don't enjoy it anymore and wear it very infrequently. It smells a little too sharp and slightly more masculine than I prefer. I've tried layering it with other perfumes, but have yet to find something that mellows it out enough to enjoy.

I went out of my way to locate this... $49 for 50ml left me expecting more even from a dupe. I'd heard a lot of good things about Dossier and wasn't going to pay $300+ for the Le Labo original. I found it odd that I smelled the cedar and orris root so strongly in the first minutes. Violet leaves? Maybe? Cardamom? Not a trace on my skin. I'll update as this wears on, but right now? I'm strongly considering taking it back for a refund.

This smells wonderful. Very woody. The violet smell was a bit strong in the beginning but it settled and the violet leaf smell mixes well with the sandlewood. It's almost a green scent. It's not for me- I prefer more playful scents but it's wonderful if you like a warm woody sandalwood with a hint of green.

Not for me. For the first 15 minutes or so, it had an almost animalistic, fecal smell 😳 seriously off-putting. I had to scrub it off. I will give it another chance when the temp drops below 45 and see if there is any change in my perception. Definitely will never buy this again.

100% sawdust... I love the smell but not as a perfume or cologne. Not LL 33's dupe. Little bit dilly.

It's a no for me, officially. I smelled this on someone yesterday and chased her down to ask what it was. It was beautifully spicy on her. I bought myself a bottle today and on my skin it smells like my guinea pig's 🫧 clean 🫧 bedding, lol. I like that smell, but it is definitely different than what I smelled yesterday. I believe it is the cedar note that pulls very sweet from my skin chemistry. I ended up scrubbing it. I am no stranger to woody scents and based on the notes thought I would like this one and let it mature, but I want my $50 and will be returning this to Target ~

I've never smelled the OG Santal 33, but I hope it smells nothing like this. The pickle smell is real. And it only faded away a little, and my nose was persistently conflicted by cardamom and pickles. I let it stay on for a couple hours and still couldn't shake that smell. $50 is also the pricier end for Dossier, and they have cheaper scents far better than this. I guess it's because of the name it is duping. If you want to try a scent worth buying, go for the Woody Sage, Aromatic Pineapple, Ambery Saffron, Musky Green Tea, or Floral Lavender.

Smells like walking down the wood aisle at Home Depot when it's 100 degrees out. It's SO sour and sharp on me. My boyfriend literally told me "you smell kind of like sour paper" I'm a sandalwood lover, and I adore Santal 33, but this does not hit the same. From a few feet away, with a brief sniff, sure it smells like Santal 33. But after a few minutes, nope. This one goes sour. It also floats to the nose very persistently while you're wearing it, which is weird and annoying.

i don't really know what i expected because i 1). don't like woody and 2). don't like unisex and this is very much both of those things! nonetheless it's very fresh, foresty, and homey, and i feel like i'd really like this on literally anyone else. i've never smelled santal 33 sorry i'm a poser i'm a fraud but i wasnt really here for that anyway

I’ve never smelled Santal 33 so I can’t compare. However this smells like a birdcage, so it’s a big no from me. I recognize that if I smelled this in a spa or hotel, or possibly on a man, I think I wouldn’t hate it.

I got a decant of this and while it does smell similar to Santal 33, it's not a close copy to my nose. I can smell a tobacco note even in the drydown the sour sandalwood smell emerges. I don't like.

This is not a dupe of Santal 33. It is something else far less pleasant. Notice how many people in the reviews say they haven't smelled the original.

I have a decant of Santal 33 and love the smell. For some reason this dupe smells way heavy on the Cardamom and I am not a fan.

This just "smells" like santal but isnt a dupe or anything that smells remotely as rich and real like santal

I was looking for something with violet, orris, and cardamom and came across Le Labo Santal 33. I didn't want to pay the full price so I looked for dupes and came across this. I have not smelled the original LLS33 so this review is solely based on this fragrance. When I first sprayed it on paper, it smelled as if someone had mixed Mineral Stone Spa and Cedarwood Sauna by Bath and Body Works together. It actually smelled amazing and I was so excited to have found a scent that I liked. I then sprayed it on my skin and clothing and things went downhill really quickly. First off, this is a very overpowering scent. One or two sprays are way more than enough. Secondly, even with one or two sprays, it is almost headache-inducing, especially when it is sitting on your chest and it is all that you can smell. Thirdly, upon drying down, this smells exactly like I just cleaned a guinea pig's cage. Very woodychippy with hints of dirt and incense. I tried to let it sit on my clothes for a while to see if the scent would change into a more neutral scent and it did not (for me at least). It got to the point where I had to change my clothes and wash my wrists because I could not stand the smell of it anymore. For $50, I would highly recommend finding a way to test this (if possible) before buying. Or do what I did and get it from Walmart where I can return this and get my money back with no hassle.
