Fleur du Mal

Not something I'd personally wear, but objectively I think its a good fragrance, especially in the context of feminine perfumery in general, its not the most unique composition in the world, but it stands out enough to get you noticed, and the artistry and craftsmanship like in other fragrances from DVN, are also on full display in this pleadant concoction. Its quite linear but like other "linear" fragrances from DVN like 'Rock the Myrrh' (a must try if you havnt already), it serves as a positive for this fragrance unlike the negative connotation usually attached to the word linear in perfumes; It's (on my skin) mainly an Osmanthus and Suede fragrance, with a fruity but not tart Peach in the back with sweet ambers and floral I can't individually pick out it wears very elegantly and positive if that makes sense. The Osmanthus in this does not feel old fashioned like some Osmanthus notes can be, intact it feels a lot more youthful and modern in this, possibly thanks to the Peach and to a lesser extent the Suede, and the Peach is only tart for the first few minutes of the opening, but after it settles down youre left with a soft Suede, Sweet and fragrant Osmanthus, subtle juicy Peach, and sweet amber florals in the base for the rest of the wearing. Longevity I got around 7 hours which is a sweet spot for me, with it being medium projecting for the first 3 hours then becoming quite intimate bubble its scent bubble, which is something this house seems to do well. Its bright enough and contrasted by the Suede enough to he worn in both Winter and Summer, just not the very extremes, bur other than that all is fair game, perfectly fine for dressing up or down too if thats your jam, in terms where it leans, it leans in a feminine direction but not all the way, even tho it's not my type of fragrance, as a guy I love getting whiffs of it, and might wear a sample of it from time to time just to smell it but on a Lady it would be divine. In conclusion definitely yet another good fragrance from DVN worth checking out, not one of my favourites but the quality and art is apparent when wearing this. 8/10

Here Quentin shows his sly, persuasive side. Because this one wasn`t love or like..it was simply addiction.It started inoffensive enough with a first sniff from the discovery set and it was a pleasant memory of a hair product from my youth (maybe a Garnier Fructis shampoo?).By that time I was madly in love with Soie Malaquais and even bought a FB.This one was...forgotten.And then the Evil Flower, surely the little sister of the EVIL RING started whispering to me. And like poor Gollum I succumbed every single time ...At first I noticed the juicy peach, then how smooth and perfectly blended the osmanthus suede combo was, then how the osmanthus had this apricot -like quality,then I even got an ambery touch.And snif by snif I became addicted..and didn`t even know WHY.I then went so far as to buy Louboutin ́s ,,Fetiche Le Cuir“ because it was listed in the ,,reminds me of“ category and it was much more affordable (at least on ebay) .Sadly, the only thing they have in commun is that they are both osmanthus fragrances, with ,,Le Cuir“ being a raw, earthy,sensual osmanthus-leather mix, while FdM is a subtle, elegant, refined osmanthut-suede combo.So I now had ,,Le Cuir“, the evil little sample kept whispering, I still didn`t want to buy such an expensive FB and was simply unhappy..And then the mirracle happened:my fragrance guru Demi Rawling made an YT-appearance in which she prised FdM as ,,a masterpiece“, ,,an underrated gem from DvN“ and confessed to be in love with this fragrance.Now my obsession with and addiction to the Evil Flower suddenly made perfect sense...and because when THE QUEEN of 3000+ fragrances told my humble self ,,this is the most beautiful osmanthus fragrances“ what could I do other than buy a FB the very next day?My Evil Flower, my preciousss...

At last!!!! An absolute triumph from this line. This is totally unique!!! (to me at least) What a great perfume, immediately grabbed my attention and frankly the bottle is my favourite out of this collection too, being purple and leopard print or whatever? I'm so glad it's good because this collection, although not shit, has not exactly overachieved so far. I just feel it's quite difficult to describe, doesn't smell like any osmanthus I know, but I suppose has a cool, airy, powdery thing to it. It's not really very leathery either and then BAM!!!! Very, very, sleek, suede leather base after a little time. I loved it, what a fantastic perfume. So I wrote that as an initial impression and as usual it's subject to making further notes when I've worn it more. It's no surprise, but also something of a stylistic shock to me that Fleur du Mal could be made by Quintin Bisch a highly prolific perfumer at the moment, modernising and sweeping through the industry, with his sparkly, cosmic, and complex style. This is not something I immediately attributed to him, like a Bois IMperial, or Teddy or a Barrois etc.... this a totally different kettle of fish and yet no less exciting. The way he's carrying on he's going to be one of my favourite perfumers working today. I can't wait to pop this sample on again and then I probably will buy a bottle. Even if this collection yields one thing I want to buy, I judge that as something of a success, being it's that PT Barnum thing that no doubt everyone will have one they really like from DVN.

Fleur du Mal is named after the iconic book of poetry “Les Fleurs du Mal” (The Flowers of Evil) by the French poet Charles Baudelaire. I originally thought it was misnamed but then I read the review that called it a “clean girl gone dirty” fragrance which I think perfectly describes it. Fleur du Mal has a pretty, fresh, juicy peach and osmanthus opening which progresses to a warm, ambery dry down with the sweetness from the peach and the florals and just a hint of something musky and animalic from the suede. I really do like it and although originally it seemed a little more generic to me than Soie Malaquais and Chamomile Satin which are both such original fragrances, I’m now beginning to pick up its subtle nuances and it is really growing on me and now I think I need another one of those beautiful bottles. Stolen peaches. Heady blossoms. A silk dress stained with peach juice. A hint of decadence and eroticism. Clean girl gone dirty.

An immediate transportation to 2002. Fleur du Mal provides the aura of a kinda kinky, whimsigoth boutique on Melrose Boulevard in the early aughts. There’s a bespoke pair of leather pants clad with straps and buckles. This shop is nothing without some corsetry, as well. The peach feeling is unbelievably juicy and so saccharine. Where this facet is uber-girlypop, the suede leans goth. I wonder if Hot Topic used to smell like this back in the day? I have a hard time describing the progression of this scent, mostly because I feel as though there isn’t much of one (which I don’t mind). Personally, this scent conjures up so much imagery—and I can’t tell if its because of lived or made-up experiences. Something about this reminds me of toys from the early 2000’s??? It also reminds me of Disney Channel Halloween movies. I can picture the intimidating goth big kids embodying this scent very well.

Like petals unfurling in the morning breeze, a subtle elegance that lingers, leaving a trail of refined beauty. Inhale... Suede, the plush luxury of a well-appointed interior. A tactile experience, smooth and sophisticated. The touch of elegance against the canvas of speed and motion. Exhale... Leather seats, a second skin. The thrill of acceleration, the adventure of the open highway. Asphalt beneath the tires. A symphony of notes that accompanies the rhythmic purr of the engine.

Fleur du Mal is one of the most beautiful osmanthus fragrances I've worn. Soft peach, osmanthus, suede, and delicate florals create a scent that feels smooth, elegant, and quietly sensual. The suede is beautifully blended, adding softness and texture rather than a strong leathery character. There is something very calming and slightly addictive about it. Not a loud fragrance, but one that keeps rewarding you with beautiful scent trails throughout the day. Having worn both, I would choose Fleur du Mal over Pêche Mirage. They share a very similar peach, osmanthus, and suede DNA, but Fleur du Mal feels softer, smoother, more feminine, and more elegant. Pêche Mirage is more suede-forward, slightly spicier, and more unisex, with the leathery character remaining more noticeable throughout the wear.

Fleur du Mal is like the lovechild of Hermes' Osmanthe Yunnan and a vanilla suede fragrance that I'm imagining in my mind. Osmanthe Yunnan, to me, smells of sweet jelly beans. Red ones, specifically. This one does too. As this has osmanthus & peach, and O.Y does too, I'm thinking that the friendly culprit is them. This, along with the jelly beans, smells like a soft leather. The texture is divine. Warm, slightly spicy. Think Like This by Etat Libre d'Orange... without the excess spice and pumpkin. This is definitely complicated, despite the sweet facade. I love it! The only downside for me is how it dries down. It loses complexity and texture, leaving something soft and *too* airy. The dry down is still pleasant, but not as full. Oh, well.

I found it exciting on a test strip, but with some relief I concluded that it wasn’t love. Of course, I immediately sprayed it on my wrist as well, and to my undoing it came alive on my skin: a lush, juicy peach opening, a sophisticated suede rounding it out, with a gossamer-thin bridge woven from white flowers in between. Its name triggered resistance in me at first, because this is one of the most pleasant perfumes I’ve ever smelled, so how do evil/wickedness/decay come into it?! But I think I’ve understood what the poet might have meant:) the creation’s simultaneously intellectual and decadent character. It’s a linear fragrance, but that doesn't spoil the experience for me. Its longevity and sillage are impeccable.

Guys just tried that one it’s magical omg couldn’t stop sniffing my arms, it’s amazing it’s all year round perfume the suede here different it’s soft light not like any other one on other perfumes. remind me only the suede note on cream cure in BDK. I did smell it all day not to much projection but who cares . Made me so happy fruity light smooth something relaxing like very nice clean smell but not in the usual way, It dose made me feel like very classy elegant Sophisticated woman. But to pricey I can’t pay 300 usd for it

This smells like a flowering peach with suede skin. It smells luxurious and expensive. I can definitely see how other reviewers describe it as unpacking a brand new luxury handbag. The performance is also interesting after a bit. It becomes transparent up close, yet has a great sillage that I keep catching whiffs of. I’m not sure if I agree with reviews that say it is otherworldly or non terrestrial, though it is very unique. An airy and floral fruit grounded with suede. When I smell it, the word “spacious” comes to mind.

PERFECT ON MY BODY I’ve been wearing this as signature pf for ages since I first tried it(I just bought it by the bottle and some notes). The bottle looks really classy too. I spray it almost every day, and I've had colleagues and strangers ask me what it is. I even have a small perfume necklace that I’ve filled with it, so I get to enjoy the scent all the time. It makes me really happy and content. I’m committed to it for the long haul! (Oh, and I’ve already bought a refill, so I’ll be using it for a while.)

It was not love at first site however Bisch is a true magician. It's deep, versatile and "clean girl gone dirty" fragrance. I'm "almost" in love, just need a little bit of depth here. In this case it's a marriage "till discontinuation tear us apart". It actually has some peachy similarity with "Peche Mirage" by Guerlain, and first notes of the last one are more attracting and sophisticated to me, however longevity and "later" notes are so much better by this one.

just go ahead and order the bottle. this is sooooo nice. the SMOOTHEST suede i have ever smelt and that osmanthus really shines through. i get zero peach if i am being honest but i do not care because this is really nice even without it. think interior of a brand new car with the most creamy osmanthus. i know that sounds weird but trust. and this would totally work for a man too in my opinion. this is the one i am purchasing from their discovery set for sure!

Sprayed around 10 AM yesterday and I’m still smelling it at noon today. Opening was just basic fruity but then it transforms. I was out in the sun in 85 degree weather when it really bloomed. I only have the sample but this might be the one in the collection I buy full size we’ll see. It smells super fresh and such a pretty scent. I think it’s the peach and amber mainly that I smell, it smells very clean.

Omg soooo sexy! Very unique and captivating. It smells like peachy shampoo emanating from a beautiful woman in a speakeasy. Dimly lit, leather booths, cocktails flowing, and maybe some cigar smoke wafting in every so often with the cold air of the open door. On the dry down a slightly indolic jasmine peaks out. It’s perfectly on the line of light femininity and naughty temptation. Gorgeous.

This sent is something else. In me it lasts all day. It’s a fragrance that’s is special when you know how to appreciate it. I can smell the suede very prominently in my skin but it balances out with the floral notes. I was skeptical about this fragrance but once I sprayed it, it was love at first sniff. It’s quite pricey but it’s one of my treasures, I love it!

It's so good, and like most of my obsessions, it's the textile note that has me coming back for more. The osmanthus is gorgeous and delicate, the peach is present without being sticky or cloying, the suede... Well, the suede smells like the sweaty interior of a used car that you're test driving, but I'm a weirdo that's SUPER into that.

Absolutely beautiful! Unfortunately I can't afford a big bottle but I got a sample and wish I was able to buy a larger size. I'd say definitely more feminine leaning which is a huge plus for me as I'm really not into very unisex or masculine scents. It's warm, cosy, sophisticated and quite sensual. I'd definitely recommend.

This might be my favorite perfume. It’s like peach nectar dripping down your chin. Florals are soft and lush. Suede is cool and amber is warm. The amber has become more salty as my bottle has aged. Sexy sexy sexy my dates love this on me. I love this on me. I don’t regret spending the price.

I'm a sucker for a good osmanthus note in perfumes. Fleur du Mal by Dries Van Noten is a floral soft perfume with peachy vibe. I'm satisfied with its longevity. DVN's perfumes are absolutely insane and beautiful. I love and want half of their line! Fleur du Mal is definetly my top 3!

Florals and fruits wrapped in suede for femme fatales. Gorgeous, seductive, mature and well blended fragrance. Also has a bit of the kind of scent your hairdryer makes when it's close to overheating, but in a really good way??

Opening is very fruity, then it turns quite classy men perfume and after, the dry down starts to be very simmilar to opening, fruity sweet notes, for me personally this is the best one from whole series of dvn perfumes.

It smells incredibly chic, perfectly capturing the bottle's design and brand's DNA. The suede leather note is surprisingly prominent/slightly dirty which contrasts nicely with the clean soapy fruity peach.

this is what I wanted Peach's Revenge by Sara Baker Perfumes to smell like! Overall a big like. Peach's Revenge was a hard no. Way to sweet. This is like the perfect peach.

Gorgeous fruity suede. The dry down is more a fruity jasmine, very clean smelling. My favorite from this line. Extremely sophisticated.

Peach warping into suede, and back again. Blended to absolute perfection. A memorable, sensual, fruity fever dream. Kind of Lynchian.

New car scent little tree air freshener but make it sexy. To be clear, I love this.

Sweet JUICY apricot/peach and soft suede! It's mouthwatering, like squeezing the juice out of the apricot (osmanthus) with light brown suede throughout. It's smooth, elegant and refined. Not sure about the car interior comments, to my nose this a softer creamy suede, it gives a certain elegance and backbone to the the scent. Average longevity and projection, though at first spray seems stronger. The scent trail is better than the close-up sniff in my opinion. One of the best from the line. Similar to Armani Prive line, I can see many people buying these mainly for the bottles, they are work of art, look great on the shelf. They're good scents, but not 300€ good. I absolutely love that all bottles are refillable though, even the travel ones! Much respect to brands that do this. Absolutely overpriced though.

First I need to vent a bit, cause I got a discovery set of the house and the samples do not have atomizers, just the tiny cork, so it's a blotting-kind of sampling, which is very uncomfortable, and makes it harder (almost impossible) to assess the projection and also to perceive the top notes. Seriously, not a good choice for such pricey perfumes more on topic, half way through the set, this is a fav so far, it's genuinely good, the peach is very realistic, it's the juicy but fresh, slightly underripe kind, and it it a good pairing with osmanthus. the suede note is very distinct but adds depth the perfume is not overpowering, a bit understated but elegant. And again off topic, so impressed by Quentin Bisch and the variety of his creations just over the last couple of years!

I got this fragrance from the Dries Van Noten Discovery Set. I went into it blind and came out thinking that this fragrance smelled a lot like leather and fancy hand soaps. Seeing now that everyone smells peach, I'm really confused ! (and a little sad I might add because I really really really would love to smell the peach). The suede is very clear to me with there also being a just as strong sweetness/floral smell, but for some reason I don't recognize it as peach? Very interesting scent regardless. It smells as though you are washing your hands at a really upscale and clean restaurant bathroom and a middle aged woman is rummaging through her new dark brown leather purse at the sink trying to find her hand lotion.

Ok, first time around, I felt like the leather quality of this was too harsh and the peach was too artificial. Having come back to it, I really enjoy this fragrance. The peach is so juicy and realistic, it doesn't feel shampooey or shower gel-y. The suede is still strong, but I appreciate it more now. This is a fantastic fall/winter fruity fragrance that isn't overwhelmingly sweet, it actually isn't sweet at all. It feels refined. Very similar to Peche Mirage from Guerlain. I haven't smelled that one in a while, but I remember thinking the peach on it was even more realistic than DVN. Not a safe blind buy, but get a tester and give it a go.

I wish the opening lasted longer! It's very smooth, nicely balanced, and unique from what I've been exposed to. Unfortunately, for some strange reason, the suede note disappears lightning fast on me. What's left is still pretty, and it seems to last for a while, but in my experience the projection is quite poor compared to other scents from this designer. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase for a lower price, and it's hard to justify it as is, but I still really want it. I can just see myself wearing this for so many different occasions.

Opening is a nice peach that is not too sweet but definitely reminiscent of a peach I have smelled before. I go back to Bath and Body Works Peach Nectar from a long time ago, but this is not a bad thing! I woke up and could still smell the scent, but its pure musk scent at this point and smelled as if I had sprayed Valaya on my arm. Does anyone know what profile contributes to this scent if musk isn't listed? I do love this scent and saving it for the summer, I bought the 10 ml discovery set and I think this size is plenty for now.

Not bad, but Q. Bisch rarely disappoints. What I find appalling is the longevity and sillage. To pay £230 for a perfume and get a skin scent is a crime in my books. I own another frag from this line (forgot the name but it’s the silk/chestnut combo) and performance of that one is by far superior which justifies the price for me. This one though... hmmmm. Also, I see no similarity to Ganymede so far, I own it and nothing compares to Ganymede period :) disappointment so far

Imagine peach juice spilling on a warm leather couch that’s been in the sun for a bit. That’s exactly what this smells like on my skin. It’s not a bad scent but it’s not amazing either. However, the bottle this comes in is. It’s so beautiful. Edit: It’s been a year and the scent has changed (obviously lol). It’s more leathery & powdery. The peace juice vibe is still there but it smells less like a juice spill on a couch now. I like it now.

A very nice floral, your most feminine French chic style. The opening does have a tiny touch of leather, but otherwise, it remains fruity. To my nose, I detect rhubarb (not listed) and it is most likely to remind you of rose ikebana from Hermessence (with floral rose and tart rhubarb). Could a go-to office everyday scent or even a signature scent.

I recently came across the DVN line in Saks. I have to say, the bottles are beautiful and they drew me in. Out of the whole collection, though, this was the only one that drew me in. I think this is a very realistic peach juice with osmanthus. Not very much depth, but very enjoyable. This is what peaches and cream would smell like as a hard candy.

Blind buy and my most worn fragrance of the summer. Can’t say I’m in love with it but everyone loves it on me Is airy, sensual but not too seductive. Good for every day or even a date night. I do enjoy it. Can’t say I can pick up any notes, maybe suede a bit but it’s well blended and does smell rich. I guess I like Quentin Bisch’s creations

Hmmm. This is really nice, but the combo of suede and osmanthus is having a bit of the same effect as in Amouage Journey Woman where those notes together come across like “new shoe” smell. I do definitely get the suede note in this, and the peach is nice and light and natural, not too sickeningly sweet.

It's the smell of vintage clothing that's been kept in the attic for decades; you can faintly smell the perfume of the person who once wore them, but a damp mustiness lingers no matter how hard you try to freshen them up. I actually don't mind this, I would just prefer for the peach to be stronger.

The first spray is full of very pretty and kind of vintage osmanthus, then the peach becomes more obvious. From a very vintagey floral it becomes a fruity shampoo, someone said garnier fructis and I agree. If this perfume smelled only like the opening I would immediately buy it.

Quite reminiscent of Miu Miu's Miu Miu, another fragrance I love. Unlike the aforementioned this feels smooth and sophisticated with some lovely deep undertones. Probably not full bottle worthy for me but I do definitely enjoy this a lot.

From the name was expecting something rawer, but got a well-behaved rosy peach. Around four hours in the scent flatlined into something that I’d best describe as a vintage floral – like a bouquet that has just started to dry. Wanted some of those velvety, earthen leather notes I usually associate with suede, but couldn’t find it. Rock the Myrrh had far stronger suede notes, despite it not listed as a primary note. But whatever Fleur du Mal is, it smells $ rich $. Not quiet luxury, but very old money. Longevity: at least 7h on fabric, but I couldn’t take it anymore. At least the DvN collection seems to have staying power built into its collection. Mental Snapshot: You’re the hottest bitch at the Sotheby’s auction. That rediscovered Vermeer? In the bag. That Qing dynasty yuhuchunping? Consider it snagged. The nouveau riche are muttering things about you. Let them mutter. You pity them, for none of them even own a Faberge egg. tl;dr: ornamental, inedible peach 🍑💸

This was much more leathery than I anticipated since suede was listed as a note. The osmanthus was muddled with the peaches, but definitely didn’t smell like either one, just a strong floral syrupy-fruity mix with strong leather. Smelling this perfume closely on myself made me slightly nauseous, but the lighter wafts I got in the air really did smell beautiful. At around 4 hours this became a skin scent, and while I still don’t like it, it’s definitely more palatable at this stage. I think this is a perfume I would love to smell on someone passing by, because in the air it really is gorgeous, but there was just something about this that didn’t settle well for me while wearing it.

From the very first second, the association is unmistakable: shisha/hookah. It’s almost impossible to shake it off. A sweet, flavored hookah smoke - that’s the immediate impression. I went to check the note pyramid and saw that this scent is presented as peach and suede. After reading the notes, yes, you can start to distinguish something peach-like... but it’s a very synthetic peach. More like a peach flavoring used in hookah tobacco than a real fruit. The suede here comes across more as a smokiness. To be fair, it smells pleasant. The fragrance is interesting, even likable. But do I want to wear it on my skin — and smell like a hookah? Probably not.

I honestly loved this at first but as soon as it dried down I was immediately reminded of how the doctors office smells lol. Like imagine going to a doctors office to get a flu shot and you sit on that leather patient table with the thin paper that breaks as you sit on it, and there’s the remanence of alcohol wipes in the air. Like if I really try, I can separate myself from that and it is a nice pretty fragrance. Even the smell I associate it with isn’t bad but it’s just strange and it makes me feel like I don’t want to wear it cause to me, it’d be like wearing the smell of the doctors around. I will say the osmanthus is what saves it for me
