Neon Garden

Got a sample and Oh boy. I will always be a sucker for iris! I do own so much iris based scents and I guess they’re never enough. I do get the mint but only the first few minutes and it’s combined beautifully with powder. Then the magic happens.. the iris in this one is so good! It’s lipsticky, powdery but also earthy (probably the carrot) and floral and greenish(probably the mint mixed with iris).. I don’t know how to explain it. Slightly sweet too but not too sweet. A bit leathery too if that makes sense. Oh I’m addicted to iris! Need to add this to my collection of irises asap. If you don’t like powdery, lipstick scents don’t buy it. But if you’re a fan of iris I’d recommend. If you like the smell of old makeup pouch you’d love this one. I wonder how long will it take me to pull the trigger on this one and Soie Malaquis.

My kneejerk expectation based on name was EDM bacchanalia but the scent conjured up more... sultry scientist? Clean, cool, aloof. Powdery in a pleasantly latex glove way, with a chill of aseptic mint. I didn’t catch the carrot in this, which was a shame, as I think I’d have bought it if it was more green leaning. My second favourite of the DvN litter, but I also live in a hospital and love medical menthol scents. Rest assured no eau d’chlorhexidine about Neon Garden, though. Longevity: ~6h on both fabric and skin Mental Snapshot: You’ve just won the Nobel Prize. (You have cured Celiac disease). You’re the first person to develop gluten-free gluten. And first to accept their award in Rhianna’s Swarovski gown. tl;dr: I think people that have waterfall showerheads smell like this 🪷💧

Love it. Perfect summer fragrance and great on a hot summer day. It’s like bathing in a Mojito. Only downfall is that it is not that potent. Would love this if it was stronger. Will try it again but think I want a bottle of this. I don’t agree with the people below saying this is really masculine - I find things too masculine really fast but this smells unisex. Think of a Mojito. Is that a manly scent to you? EDIT: Unfortunately it dries down to a ambroxan iris scent, mint goes to the background. Even softer sillage than the opening. Loved the opening a lot more than the dry down. Don’t think I will buy a bottle. If someone knows a fragrance with this “cooling mint” note that stays in the dry down let me know!

I feel one of the highlights of the dries van noten perfume collection is that they do simple really well. do I own a million iris perfumes? yes. do I think this one stands out as the best one in my collection? also yes. Going into it, I was truly looking forward to the mint note, but I quickly realized carrot is the star of the show in this one. So nuanced, delicate & delicious, yet also fresh and lasts a whole day on me and my clothes. There is nothing simple or boring on this in my humble opinion, just go for it with an open mind! Highly recommend to spray it to try it rather than dab it on, it’s a whole different experience. This one is a winner.

My first ever fragrance. Bought it at the behest of a sales person in Saks Fifth Avenue. Didn't think too much about it at first other than the bottle being very beautiful, but it has grown on me more and more. Clean mint opening, carrot immediately follows and takes hold for a good hour, then the powdery iris lingers for hours (or even days, and survives laundry). Very fresh at the start, then friendly and comforting throughout. For personal care products, I like things that are not stereotypically gender-coded, and this fragrance is exactly that. This scent is so uncommon, that I consider this to be my signature scent.

I’m immediately stuck by how much this smells like Fleur de Peau by Diptyque- with mint at the opening. The mint quickly goes away and then it’s virtually the same scent. (Which makes it surprising that so many people here don’t like this very much when Fleur de Peau is a so well-loved!) I really really like this, for the same reasons that I love Fleur de Peau- it’s musky and comforting and I suspect it has the same addictive quality. The mint here is interesting!

Neon Garden feels too synthetic and razor sharp, unpleasant on the skin. The only nice part is the orris, but it gets lost quickly. It ends up smelling a lot like Ghost in the Shell from ELDO, but in a harsher way. Edit, 2 weeks later: This fragrance definitely grew on me big time, from sincere loathing, now I actually starting liking and appreciating it. Feels much more natural, earthy, green and iris-y, the ambroxan is still there, but not in my face.

Neon Garden is completely addictive. On my skin it opens like a luxurious mint margarita, fresh, cool, and vibrant. When it settles the iris and carrot come forward and it almost reminds me of pencil shavings in the most gorgeous way. Every time I catch a whiff it makes me feel alive, almost like being swept up in a crush even if I am not. I cannot stop smelling myself when I’m wearing it. There is something incredibly intoxicating about it.

Beautifully blended mint (combined peppermint and spearmint) and iris which has a cooling and uplifting feeling to it. The musks in this keep the fragrance going with a solid base which plays off the complimentary minty and powdery notes. Dries Van Noten also have some of the most superbly presented bottles / packaging around plus an added bonus of all their scents being refillable. Wonderful stuff.

this is the most accurate scent description i will ever give. this smells like if you are wearing you or someone like you (which kind of smells like paper) and you walked into abercrombie and fitch. but i LIKE THAT. i can see how people would find that weird but i think it is really nice. nice enough to spend $300? definitely not, but overall i still really mess with this.

So finally trying this one for real, it issssss basically a mojito in a bottle which is perfect for summer and hot days. People saying it's masculine are interesting because I usually pick up on that pretty fast and this reads very unisex to me. Performance could be better, wish it was stronger but still thinking I might want a bottle eep

This one is truly juxtaposed with an unlikely pairing. Iris in this is very powdery and dry while the mint adds a cooling fresh and masculine vibe. Ambroxan in this is very pronounced, adds a hefty sillage and longevity to the delicate yet persistent fragrance. I'd say it's round and creamy despite the mintier opening.

Addictive minty iris with a subtle carrot note. Beautiful wear on skin. Signature scent worthy but refreshingly different. Lasts longer than I expected for this type of scent, 5+ hours but possibly more.

So I'm wearing Dries Van Noten's Neon garden today and although it's actually a very competent, pleasant, cheat mode (I mean orris/iris who does like that?) fragrance from Fanny Bal, I'm just not quite feeling it. I think the expectation of 'Mint' as it's clearly listed in my little sample set, made me think 'hmmmm iris and mint? I don't think I've had that combo, could be something really special this!!!' I think that expectation coupled with the OTT packaging and the Bladerunner name, had me longing for something with a bit more oomph than I got. Like I said it's a nice 'niche' Orris perfume with the most subtle vegetal qualities, and greenery, and indeed mint top note but it's too fleeting to be considered something I'd really seek out and have the ability to stand out in the crowd. The Orris goes from fleshy and leathery/powdery to that dry, papery woody ionone/irone, as a modern, uncluttered Iris perfume, I like it, but unless you're some massive DVN fan then this is just another nice perfume. Up that mintiness, and give us some shock greenery of galbanum or geranium in a top/heart that was detectable for longer, then let it retreat to a very nice iris and I would've probably sang the praises of this perfume. Take more risks what I think.

Waves of icy cold mint, dense and velvety carroty iris and musk all rush in together on a cold mistral wind. This profile always wins me over, so I was loving it until I got hit in the face with another huge wave. This time of ambroxan. Trying to stay afloat I kept grabbing at that lovely mint, but then the ambroxan would pull me under. Eventually everything else subsides and all that’s left is the ambroxan, in a warm dense puddle. So I’m rating this as a like because the top notes are so good, but I wish they had cut down the ambroxan just a little. I understand the goal, to give this profile staying power, but it’s no good if it overwhelms the other notes. So given a choice between Neon Garden and Les Bain Guerbois 1979 New Wave, I’d choose 1979. It doesn’t last as long on skin but the mint and iris do stick around longer.

This one is interesting! Once I think I have it figured out, I take another sniff and it changes again as if it's playing tricks on my nose. With that said, this is a fragrance with a clear identity. It knows itself, even if I yet don't. It is fresh but with depth and a unique intensity. For me, the mint is most prominent, but it is not a mojito-kind-of-mint, but rather a hard mint candy, with a cooling floral note and musky undernotes - it's extremely well-blended. My nose is picking up on something heavier lurking in the background, like a deep vanilla or even a light oud, but then again, it might just be the fragrance deceiving me. Either way - a gorgeous fragrance.

i don't get dior homme, if anything i get a l'eau d'hiver vibe, detecting a fluffy heliotrope and an airy almond+mimosa , maybe a bit of tonka and a serious soft musk. edit: come back to it after a few months i now detect a mint, i had to look up the notes to make sure i was not hallucinating it. there's this medicinal whipped cream-like effect, similar to the musk DNA of narciso rodriguez, that's paired up really nicely with the fuzzy fluffy heliotrope/almond. the dry down has a significant amount of ambroxan, but imo it makes the overall experience pleasantly molecular and modern.

For me, the initial smell is carrot and it's such an interesting opening note into the fragrance, sweet and earthy at the same time. Then the wet mint becomes all encompassing with a subtle layer of iris.It does soon become quite powdery and that note, combined with the ambroxan becomes dominant. Possibly it's a little heavy handed on the ambroxan and there could have been a little more iris? It's nice, not extraordinary, but a good fresh summer fragrance.

Neon Garden is a unique, refreshing fragrance with an amazing mint note. It’s perfect for a hot summer day and, unlike many fresh fragrances, it doesn’t rely on citrus. It’s more intimate than projecting, and while the longevity on my skin wasn’t great, it lasted noticeably longer on my clothes. A beautiful and distinctive summer scent

I agree with the DHI comparison; the iris is less intense here and it's a softer fragrance overall. The mint just peeks in. Very delicate. I don't like DHI and while this doesn't make much of an impression on me, I don't find it objectionable the way I do DHI (the iris is just too much).

Nice fresh Mint and Iris. I really like the clean crisp opening and accent on mint note. I have never smelled it so defined as in here. Iris is clean, refined and dry. Brand new suit scent. Unisex. Clean powder for drydown. Similar to My Queen by A. McQueen (more iris in this one).

Instantly brought me back, in a good way, to the creamy minty meltaway nonpareil disks my grandmother had in her candy dish in the 60’s/70’s. Clean, creamy, refreshing, comforting ~

Carrot! This is the first time I've smelled carrot in a fragrance, and I love the smell of carrot juice so I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I just love an Iris fragrance but I have never tried one with a mint note before! What an excellent and unique inclusion!

A worthy iris to add to any collection — just wish I could pick up the mint notes.

Neon Garden was a fairly average perfume in my estimation and one of the weaker perfumes by Dries Van Noten. I found everything just too strong and I felt like all of the other notes buried the iris for about half of its wear time, the iris only blooming on my skin afterwards. I know that no woody notes are listed here, but it smelt very woody to me (it may be the musk mixed with the ambroxan and mint) and it gave me a bit of a headache the first three hours I was wearing it. The carrot note was odd and dusty too, making everything smell a tad dirty. It was pretty the last 3 hours on my skin of the 6, but it took far too long for me to get there! I would not buy this because of that and I think that there are definitely better and cheaper iris perfumes out there on the market. Sillage was moderate but bordering on strong, so I don't think that you could wear this during the day or to the office. I think that it could only be worn during the night and I would class this as a unisex fragrance. It isn't feminine enough for me to buy and I also think I have smelt better unisex fragrances at all price points, like Prada's iris scent. I'd give Neon Garden by Dries Van Noten a 5.6/10 altogether. The bottle is colorful and beautiful, though!

I wanted to like this more. I really did. Especially because I had already tested Les Bains Guerbois's 1979 New Wave and loved it, but it left me wanting more mint. Based on the multiple reviews below, I was hoping this would be a better version of New Wave, but alas, the mint is very fleeting. Relegated to being a minuscule supporting character in the world of Neon Garden. Also, this is a VERY powdery fragrance. This is not a cooling powdery scent, but rather, a creamy one. It reminded me so much of my grandmother's lipstick.

Huge bummer because I love a powdery orris but this just isn’t it. The opening is instantly sharp mint then feels strangely synthetic orris then shifts into a nondescript skin scent. Probably the most disappointing of the lineup here. It feels like two concepts that couldn’t be merged, a bright green iris or a an herbal musk. Had they split and gone all the way with either it could have been interesting, but the final result isn’t impressive and feels confused.

A version of Dior Homme Intense mixed with mint. 13/04 - I wrote it as a joke but out of curiosity i compared both and they are truly similar. Yes, there are differences: Dior is more in your face with a harsher contrast between sharp/bitter and the sweet/warm notes. This is a more linear, gentle with the added mint and it dries to salty metallic musk. Enough to justify de price difference? I'll let you be the judge of that...

Testing the discovery set «Collection modepaleis». Neon Green is in my opinion very masculine. The opening is fresh, green (duh..) and sharp - like the morning air in autumn. It has a medicinal or sterile hue to it, and the carrot gives the perfume some sweetness. After an hour or so the sharpness goes away, and a warmth comes through. Remains masculine throughout. It’s a nice scent, but too masculine for me.

The first blast I was- wow, this is nice. Masculine but nice. It was slightly minty and spicy but more lipsticky iris. Issue is my skin chemistry does not play well with ambroxan so it got creamy- musky with a bit of woody-bitterness quite quickly. If you don’t have my issue, I think this is a safe blind buy everyday use. Leaning masculine. Second test: Ambroxan took over. Nope.

Green. Floral. First spray smells like early spring morning when flowers are starting to bloom and when the ground is a little wet and earthy. The iris really comes through in the dry down -- it stays green but becomes more like any other iris as the scent wears on. It's pleasant but not as interesting as the price should command.

Soft vintage scent. It's what a fancy designer store smells like. I'm not sure I want to smell it on me though. I usually love powdery iris/violet fragrances, but I think the mint in this is throwing me off.

This smells llike mint chocolate. Very similar to Diptyque's Fleur de Peau. Orris is very leathery here. I can imagine some soft leather couches in dim light burlesque bar.

powdery, musky iris throughout top and dry down, its not that strong, i wouldnt really wear it and its too subtle for me. 7.5/10

Opening with a lovely Iris, but (on my skin) there is a rather maskulin vibe. Funny combo 😁 I would like to smell this on a man.

The opening is beautiful but the dry down is a bit sharp and minty. Very little sweetness. I think it is more masculine leaning.

Revisiting this after initial disappointment. Pleasant enough if you are into this kind of “white noise” scent (Nasomatto Blamage, most of the new Courregès line etc.) I get the same iris of The Different Company’s Bois d’Iris with it’s talcum powder finish. But this is too cheap-smelling to fall in love with. It kind of annoys me. DVN did such a great job with his brand, he’s so talented and influential and deservedly successful. Even this fragrance line is visually excellent. The bottles’ content deserves a better budget and better ideas. 1 out of 5.

This is definitely not for me. I liked the opening, at least enough to spray it on skin. A nice, familiar musky iris/carrot combo. Similar to many others out there. But once the mint kicked in, this turned a bit putrid on me. The soft rounded musky iris became sharp and unpleasant. Somehow a little spicy and stinky. Very masculine for sure, but not a masculine scent that I like.

It comes off a bit too mature. I do get the lipstick and powder even though they are not listed as notes. Not for me.

Its like Dior Homme intense and JHAG Moscow Mule have a sick child. Another iris, another ambroxan. Fanny Bal keeps disappointing

I got a sample of this fragrance this winter when I purchased Soie Malaquais from the same collection. I tried it on skin and I enjoyed but nothing more. I tried it again this morning on skin. I was struck by the beauty of this fragrance and this afternoon I rushed to a Dries Van Noten store to buy a 10ml travel spray of this beauty along 2 other from the same DVN line. It is now spring and it is when the fragrance reveal all its beauty. I get the aromatic note and the ambroxan. I do no get the iris but probably because I am used to the Guerlain style iris note. All in all it is a beautiful fragrance. To conclude I would say: - fragrances from this Dries Van Noten collection deserve to be sampled several times on skin, during different seasons - if the price of this line is an issue, you can buy 10ml x 3 travel size sprays (you can pick 3 different fragrances) for 98€ / approx 100 USD. - it is a great alternative for summer if you are use to wear the usual citrusy fragrances

I received a sample of this with a fb order from DVN. The notes sounded so intriguing and I adore mint notes in my fragrances. Upon immediate spritz, I smelled rubbing alcohol. I tried numerous times, and this is all I got in the opening. If I inhale strongly, I can pick up the mint, but it’s not a refreshing mint. It smells synthetic and medicinal to me, also a bit aged and soured. Once that subsides, I’m overwhelmed by a rather off-putting blend of aggressive Iris and soft carrot. As others mentioned, the ambroxan is a main note here and smells overpowering throughout, especially in the lackluster drydown. Thankfully, this isn’t a powerful scent and it lacks longevity, as I wasn’t able to wash it off immediately. I’ll stick with my other DVN scents that I adore.

This is a fine example of a lean, clean scent showing distinctive modernity, ...while still managing to smell broadly appealing, That very noticeable carrot note is everything. Any such memorable distinction would be halved if this were just mint and orris powder. Having said that, Neon Garden does include itself within a special group of scents that successfully pair mint with various wonderfully unexpected counterpoint notes. ELDO's You Or Someone Like You is another one, ...as is Pacific Chill and its excellent dupe, Vibe. Regarding marketing image, I do appreciate how both the name and luminescent, color-block bottle successfully communicate the scintillation of this fragrance.

To start with, I have a very deep love hate (mostly hate) relationship with mint in perfumes. It tends to be way too much and obnoxious. Renaissance by Xerjoff is the only mint type fragrance I have found to be able to stomach and actually enjoy. With that being said, Neon Garden does a very nice job not using it a lot. There is a powdery and earthy, rootlike feel at first spray with a slightly herbal and minty feel in the back. Way way back. Which is where i would prefer it to be. This particular iris is not as powdery as one would usually see in mainstream fragrances but more dry and woody.

I was the most looking forward to this one, having been on an iris kick for about the last six months. I also happen to love mint. Ultimately, this feels hollow to me. Nice blast of mint up top, I get hardly any iris in the middle before the ambroxan takes over. To my nose this is hardly more than another variation on a Molecule fragrance. It doesn't work for me at any price.
