Raving Rose

Wow! Just beautiful. This is a very realistic smelling rose fragrance with a slightly peppery opening and a slightly musky base, with just the tiniest hint of spiciness. It is a sweet rose fragrance without being too sweet and I am glad it isn't at all fruity or woody, as most rose fragrances are won't to be. It doesn't smell like rose water either, though there is a dewiness to it. There is something very romantic and feminine about Raving Rose, as if I were in a rose garden in Shiraz and listening to the poems of great poets as I sit on an ornate and beautiful Persian rug. This fragrance tells a story and it has me completely enthralled by its beauty! Projection is about arm's length on me and this fragrance lasted about 6 hours on my skin before completely dissappearing. I can imagine it being worn in either spring or summer during the day to a smart casual event, especially somewhere like the Ritz or the Movenpick for brunch. I love the pink and red bottle too and I think that it is so pretty. It is very pleasing to hold and to look at. Altogether, I would give this fragrance an 8.5/10 like I did for Jardin de L'orangerie by Dries Van Noten too.

Raving Rose opens with a very beautiful, photorealistic rose that immediately feels polished and high quality. The opening is dramatic in the best way, almost like smelling a vivid red rose at its most beautiful along. As it settles, the pepper and woods start to come forward and give the fragrance more structure. The rose never becomes dry to me, but it does become more masculine as it develops on skin, especially when it settles in with the peppery notes. I find it sensual, elegant, and a little dramatic without feeling loud. Overall, this is one of the more memorable rose fragrances I have tried, and it feels very wearable for someone who usually likes darker or more textured scents. I truly consider this to be a very unisex rose.

This is, without a doubt, the most beautiful rose fragrance I’ve ever smelled—the ultimate rose. It isn’t heavy, overly sweet, or overly floral. It simply smells like a rose, and that’s what makes it extraordinary. A subtle pepper note adds a fresh, airy quality, enhancing its realism. It reminds me of the pink roses my mother grew—like burying your face in their petals. It’s elegant, deeply nostalgic, and strikingly true to life. The longevity is excellent, with graceful projection that never overwhelms. Feminine, modern, and sophisticated, yet timeless.

Beautiful perfume! My husband who is very sensitive to all perfume, only likes Raving Rose on me. Stunning feminine and fresh..... puts me in a great mood when I put it on in the morning. Beautiful balance of sweet and pepper. I am completely obsessed so I even bought a refill as this will be in my collection for a foreseeable future. ....and to whoever said this smells like Rose01 from Swiss Arabian is COMPLETELY wrong !! oh my god those two fragrances have NOTHING in common !

liked this a lot more than i expected to, the dab on sample has become my go-to for going out. it’s a sharp green peppery rose— distinct from all the other roses i’ve smelled (admittedly not /that/ many). fairly linear, but i like where it sits.

This smells unbelievably sexy on a guy. I combine this with Terre d'Hermes EDP when I want to make an outstanding impression. Everyone will come up to you and smell "rosewood." Absolute masterpiece. Expensive and worth it.

Very close to Rose Roche from Dyptique, but a bit earthier with a stunning spiky musk dry down. It feels fruity without being too feminine and is definitely not sweet. It lasts and lasts, very big fan of this one

Yup, beautiful spicy rose! If that's your thing and you want to shell out the bucks. Kind of one-dimensional to me, but then I'm not a huge rose fan.

I was immediately blown away by how beautiful this perfume was to me (as someone who loves peppery and rosey perfumes). I kept sniffing the paper I had sprayed it on, in Selfridges, and eventually convinced myself to purchase a bottle. But I’ve noticed Dries Van Notens line of perfumes with the exception of 3 (voodoo chilli, soie malaquais and rock the myrrh) are very safe scents. For the designer price tag you’re not really buying something that competes with brands such as Floraiku, Fueguia 1833, Amouage etc. If you love roses, particularly rose water, you’ll instantly fall in love this as I did. It’s very peppery (for some people it will be too much), and yet incredibly calming to smell. In the initial spray and the first hour there’s an appreciable sillage, which might be polarising depending on where and what occasion this is sprayed, then it dries down to what smells to me as an exclusively peppery scent that wins the battle over the roses and dominates the base. I have extremely dry skin so one spray on my wrists doesn’t last long for me. After 3 hours I can only smell a faint peppery dry down, wafting around me, but on someone else’s skin it might last longer. Do not blind buy this. The price is hefty for what it is. It would be perfect if it was rounded off with a bergamot in my opinion but it’s a beautiful feminine scent and it makes me smile everytime i spray it. It it quite simplistic and you really have to love rose and pink pepper in perfumes to see the point of buying this over similar perfumes such as Laverne Lady Rose, Tom Ford Rose Prick, Oud for Glory or even something as juvenile but delightful as Lush Rose Jam which lacks a pepper but is a beautiful rose bergamot. I can see a man wearing this but if you’re a guy you’ll probably prefer Diptyque Eau Capitale to this for the patchouli Diptyque has. I personally love that it is a simple scent unlike Marquis, but for the price do not expect a complex niche perfume. I can find this DNA in Riyadh for way cheaper with a brand like Rashat.

This is instantly different to the other rose in this collection and I mean, you'd hope so right? This is sweeter, perhaps a little more traditionally rosy, I get pink pepper for a moment but then it turns to that soapy, high end version of herbal essence shampoo. Actually has a nice 'dark' green, peppery note a it dries down. Not my taste or the best example of this genre but joins a host of competent and likable modern rose perfumes. I must say I do like it overall. It's certainly more suitable for raving than the other rose, but did it really do it for me in the way certain modern roses have? Not quite. Update 26/01/25 I’m trying this again today and have nothing to add to my above review. Honestly, I don’t mean to toot my own horn but I read it and was like... yeah... I said it then. Now sometimes I come back to these reviews and think... what the hell was I thinking writing that? But here...well... it’s spot on.

The opening is a sweet rose that borders fruity territory, almost reminiscent of an artificial pear. It settles quite quickly into a mild, peppery rose. If you have ever used rose water on your face or in your hair, the dry down is very realistic. It manages to capture the soapy, inedible qualities of bottled rose water. I appreciate the reliability of this perfume. Pink bottle, pure rose scent, nothing more and nothing less. The notes in this capture the calm aspects of a rose garden which I imagine could be cherished by someone who found Delina too sharp or sour.

This is absolutely nothing like Swiss Arabian Rose 01, which is a sour Delina dupe. I really enjoy Raving Rose. The rose note is really realistic and beautiful here, and the pepper is enough to keep things interesting but not overwhelming. The drydown gets muskier, and I wonder if there might be a touch of unlisted tobacco as well. Overall it's very enjoyable. The pricepoint is completely ridiculous though. I'm enjoying this as a sample, but would absolutely not purchase a FB unless it was heavily discounted.

It's a very pink almost photorealistic rose scent without it being girly necessarily. I did not like it but gave it to my nonbinary partner and they loved it. The pepper and rose combination gives it a soft scent with a bite. Recommend for those who want a pink non feminine scent.

As a cliche rose skeptic I don't mind this. It's like rose with bold typeface. Rose to the power of two. I thought I picked up on some citrus like bergamot but I guess I'm tweakin. This is nice I would consider wearing it.

Forget the 'reminds me of' section. This is Swiss Arabian Rose 01 in a fancier bottle, exact same juice! like it can't get any closer than that!

It’s an ok perfume, nothing special.

When I read the notes breakdown, I was expecting a spicy rose perfume; however, it turned out to be very different from my expectation. I don't get any pepper note, either pink pepper or black pepper; instead, I get a fruity, jam-like opening. It reminds of red berries. Rose is definitely the main role here. It appears in the opening too, well mixed with the fruity scent. For the first 10 minutes, I will describe it as a fruity feminine rose perfume. After it develops on my skin for 10 minutes, I start getting this metallic smell. It turns into a metallic rose perfume. It leaves me with a picture of bleeding finger after getting stung by the thorns of roses. The drydown is clean and fresh, but also somewhat simple and even mediocre. Especially when you consider the price, it is somewhat disappointing. The performance is weak, and the longevitiy is just fine. I would say there are a lot of rose perfumes on the market with wow-factor, but this bottle is not one of them.

The name made me anticipate a drugstore bottle of something like “Love Island: The Fragrance!,” but I found a more cultured spicy rose. Feisty and youthful without being syrupy or cloying. Essentially a fruity, red rose tempered with photorealistic pepperberries. (My childhood bedroom abutted a pepperberry tree so I drank that scent for a decade). Someone online also said “Herbal Essences,” which, once said, cannot be unsaid. Basic, but pleasant! Longevity: Burned out around 4h on skin, but got >7 in fabric Mental Snapshot: You’re a thirty-something playing a teen-something in an upcoming drama. (It’s ok: you’re still hot). Besides, you’re revisiting the follies of youth through the lens of wisdom and experience. (It’s ok: it’s an HBO production, not some CW cringe). You drink Mike's Hard in the back of a Maybach. tl;dr: stupid sexy shower gel 🌹🌶

IGNORE the "reminds me" section for this scent because apparently a lot of people think all rose scents smell the same. Who ever thinks this smells like Delina, Baie Rose, Rose 31, Eau Rose, or La Fille de Berlin is TRIPPING. Is it bad no, is it nice... maybe? It's fine. It's a basic rose scent. Reminds me a lot of the drug store gem Tea Rose by Perfumer's Workshop but more musky and way more expensive. I honestly think this is very generic and over priced rose.

A strong fruit-rose opening. I could swear there was some lychee in it. It is so similar to so many others, a brighter version of Fetiche La Rose. Then it turns a bit more cashmere but rose remains quite linear. I personally loved the other DVN rose more. This one is not as complex as I would have preferred but it is definitely a safe choice.

You see a gorgeous, wild, fresh rose. Arms outstretched, you reach for it, trying to pick it for yourself. Suddenly - ouch! Blood oozes from your wound, and you lick your finger to stop the bleeding. Why did you think the rose belonged to you in the first place? It was never yours to begin with.

this is a very realistic fresh rose, with a bit of pepper that gives tingles inside my nostrils. I do get a bit of a soapiness to it. i don't know how i feel about this scent.

I first smelt this on paper and was completely obsessed. However, when I tried it on skin it shifted to more of a sharp and direct rose. It was almost essential oil like and lacked the warmth and softness I got when smelling it on paper.

Blown away by how strongly I dislike this. I love rose. On me this is awful. A beautiful rose foreshadowed by a loud, streaky, medicinal and sharp pepper. Pepper totally dominates. Relieved to dislike this! Soie m is still queen though

I'm always keen to try rose fragrances. Rose is my favourite floral note. I have to say I really do not like this. It's very heavy on the black pepper and creates a very dark, somewhat bitter rose. I had to scrub it off immediately :(

Really strong rose and geranium. I have the same reaction as to AG Ce Soir ou Jamais, it's too much, too loud.

Why does someone combine rose with pepper? Rhetorical question, of course. I hate it.

This is the most realistic rose with freshly cracked black pepper. The one you put on your garbage bags to scare off the cats. If that’s your thing go for it. For me this is one of the baddest things I have smelled. If the black pepper was 1% of what this has and added some sweetness it could have potential. It is really potent though.

I intended to smell Raving Rose blind (listed notes unknown), but there is always a "notable" subtitle on the side of every Dries van Noten vial and this one said 'Pepper Rose'.... Immediately I felt a sense of trepidation. I've had a few run-ins with hot n' spicy rose fragrances that didn't go down well (...one by ELDO, another in Lancome's Absolue collection, I'll spare you the details). On initial spray, there is about ten seconds where the pepper flamed up and stung. My nose flinched and my heart sank. ...But then a miracle: the pepper notes settled down into the rose, blended in, and behaved themselves. Raving Rose is primarily a sweet-green rose scent, with the subjugated pepper notes only adding a mild sense of airy freshness to the mix. The effect is more like a cool breeze than hot fire. This rose scent is cool. So am I going to get a bottle or even finish this vial? No, no, I already have a dozen rose scents I like better than this, ...but my point is that some reasonable person might fall in love (...or like) with this. Raving Rose is definitely on the sane and wearable side, ...at least as far as pepper-rose fragrances go. Edit: Coming back a month later, just to marvel (and moan) over the fact that Dries van Noten actually has a second (two! why two?) pepper rose scent called Rosa Carnivora, which I regrettably just sampled tonight. Everything I feared would happen with Raving Rose, but didn't, has now just happened with Rosa Carnivora: burning gasoline, bitter skunk, ...and roses. I'm literally feeling queasy as I write this.

The bottle is pink and red. But the scent is sharp and green on my skin. Very green floral scent with lots of pepper. You get some geranium and something that reminds me of sage. Crushed sage leaves. It is slightly mentholated. I see a pink/red bottle and roses mentioned in the notes pyramid. I don't get the roses. Where are the roses? did they mean rose leaves and thorns only? I want pink rose petals not just twigs, leaves and thorns... I don't think that I need more than a sample.

This is sold out and I’m mad. I am a sweet foody smells goblin OUT HERE IN THESE STREETS but I’ve been carrying this spray sample around and conserving it for weeks and then I went to buy it and everyone else had the same idea. There’s something foody about this. Foody but not sweet. It’s like if you could cook a rose as a side dish in a good steak plate. It’s weirdly gorgeous. Raving Rose is the best of this new series by Dries Van Noten I've tried so far (and I'm almost through trying all of them). Unlike what you might expect from looking at the bottle, it's a spiked rose. Very peppery, not too sweet, natural smelling rose. Very lovable! If you like Le Labo's Rose 31, you will definitely like this one as well or even more.

Slapped in the face by an intense, slightly spicy rose, which for some reason translates to my brain as plasticky or chemical-y. Creed Eladaria does the same thing, it’s awful. This one eventually settles down a bit where I can tolerate it, but I’d agree with others that it’s pretty one dimensional and straight forward. Rose. 🤷🏻♀️

This is a beautiful simplistic rose. That might sound boring, but I find so many rose perfumes dont actually smell like real rose, if you feel the same and are looking for a pure realistic rose, you should absolutely check this out. It almost smells like natural pure rose essential oil with fresh pepper.

For me it smells like the wierdo Rosenrot from Rammstein but in a more « commercial « way, less dark and more fresh green spicy, but the chore seems similar. It starts very sharp and spicy and then it becomes very smooth and woody (vetiver?). Very nice to wear, anytime :)

It’s such a great scent but the price point is a bit unjustified. You definitely get the pepper and it has the same sour vibe as rhubarb does. When I first smelled it i was immediately uplifted.

This is super interesting. It’s a strong rose and geranium which bring a balance of sweet and sour. The spicy black pepper adds a super spiky edge. As rose scents go, this is really unique.

Like Bulgarian rose oil, but unexpectedly clear, fresh, bright & not sweet at all. A cool leafy green facet and a peppery spiciness create tension, edge & modernity. Yes, it's really good.

Bulgarian rose absolute in a very high concentration with a peppery geranium. Don't overspray this garden of roses and thorns. The drydown is all about musk.
