Rock the Myrrh

I was shown this while I was discussing Dries Van Noten with an employee at the perfumery I went to, and she noted that this was her personal favourite, and I can very much see why, definitely one of the standouts that I tried. It's a linear but very well made and balanced fragrance; imagine the sweetest and most pleasing Myrrh you can think of, and sprinkle it with sugar, ambers and patchouli without making it cloying, this is what I'd say the centre of the fragrance is, a very sweet and addictive myrrh, which gets joined after the opening by a Suede reminiscent of the Suede in Babycat by YSL, but in this its prominent but very much behind the Myrrh and ambery resisns. Overall it's a very likeable fragrance in the air, and if it clicks with your skin like it does mine and others, it's very pleasing to get wafts of it throughout the day or whenever you turn your head/body, definitely a mood booster above all else!. In terms of projection I get a medium projection but in the opening and in regards to the scent trail on my skin, it can be a little stronger and denser if that makes sense. Longevity I got 8 hours which is good, this brand does seem to make sweet spot longevity for their fragrances (in my opinion) as for me the sweet spot is around 7-9 Max, as it still leaves time open for you to wear something in the 2nd half of the day or evening if you wore it in the morning etc. Perfectly unisex too, however the Suede in this might come off as ever so slightly masculine to some which is understandable but I stand by its perfect unisex rating. Overall it was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one, Juice aside, as is standard with this brand, the bottle is quite beautiful to look at, and the fragrance itself is beautiful to smell, I have nothing bad to say about it, it does what it does, and it does it excellently, another banger from the brand. 8.7/10

Warm, sweet and delicious. It has become one of my favorites for winter. It opens with honey-like sweetness, warm and deep. On paper strip I also get some fruity sour notes like berry or plum, quite interesting. However, on my skin the leathery smell comes out right after the spray. At this stage it is calm and masculine. As it develops on my skins, I get something like hazelnut, and the perfume itself gets more and more creamy and nutty. At this stage I would really use the word "delicious" to describe it. It creates a patisserie vibe. After a few hours, the honey-like sweetness gets stronger and stronger, but still the right level of sweetness, never overpowering or cloying. In the meantime, some smoky woody scent starts popping up, in harmony with the honey scent. To my nose, patchouli is more detectable on a paper strip than on my skin. When I am wearing it, I can hardly get any patchouli. The drydown is simply beautiful. The smell that lingers on my skin at the end of the day is smooth, ambery, a bit powdery, and it reminds me of some almond-flavored dessert. As my sweater retains the smell, when I pick up the same sweater after a few days and smell the lingering scent, I just get delighted immediately. The smell even makes my sweater feel softer. This is a lovely perfume for winter, and it is even suitable for the office or a date night. It lasts unexpectedly long on my skin.

What a scent! Warm, spicy, comforting. I got the sample set because I want to gift myself one of these fabulous perfumes. I thought it would be Fleur du Mal or Soie Malaquais but it is going to be Rock the Myrrh. Funny I thought I would hate this one and Cannibus and Patchouli but they have been my favorite- this one by far. It is exactly my vibe in fall/winter- and actually wearing it in summer in DC on one day where the temperature dipped under 70. It is so good, it is a lot sweeter than I expected- a sharp sweetness with some spice- but this perfectly balances the Myrrh which to my nose often leans too sour. It is perfection- worth the price in my opinion and can't wait to wear it all winter. So pleasantly surprised- I highly recommend getting the discovery set- these scents are all so unique!

This is such a jaw-dropping fragrance. Absolutely unbelievably beautiful. Warm, chewy, creamy and resinous. This has quickly become a favorite of mine. There is really nothing quite like this at all. By far the best from this line ( Soie Malaquis is a close second). Not to mention, the compliments I get on this is unlike any other fragrance I’ve ever worn. Worth every single penny you will pay for this. And the performance on this is unreal. I can easily smell this on myself 12+ hours after applying it. An easy 10/10. If you’re into warm, spicy fragrances and are thinking about trying this I highly highly recommend it.

This is the first perfume I've tried where the leather note actually finds harmony with my skin chemistry. Other fragrances with leather in them, like Babycat (which on paper strips and other people smells amazing), just turn into plain leather/suede after about 5 minutes on my skin. I think having leather in a scent can make it very sexy when done correctly, and this one is definitely a winner. It has depth and a very unique sensual vibe that can most definitely be unisex. Would love a full bottle one day, but for now I'll keep getting the travel size dabbers 🥲

Less than a year ago, they had the 10ml refillable travel sprays on their website and a full 100ml bottle was 260€. They removed the travels completely and this one is 315€ now --- not cool :( Delicious golden resinous myrrh with soft brown suede as the main players. Pretty linear, but rich and good performance, over 6-7 hrs on skin (unless they changed the formula as I heard, after Dries left the company - not sure). Not gonna pay the retail prices for these brands anymore, it's becoming obnoxious.

Such a treat I had a whiff of it at the bloomies counter in reem mall , after which I knew I had to have it . This is what is referred to as a chameleon scent , it radiates sweetness first , 15 mins later a light hit of resinous myrrh felt as though I was at a temple or a sacred space ! Truly outstanding performance and the journey was impeccable . A solid 9 out of 10 . Safe blind buy might I add . Not offensive at all , the initial lull of sweetness is what makes it genderless and sexy.

Lovely; a creamy, sweet, high church scent... evokes the same mood as Georges de La Tour paintings of Mary Magdalene - see my avatar. Colors of brown and gold. A candle blown out. Yes, suede too, I get this as it dries down. Reminded of Reve d'Ossian from Oriza Legrand. On my wishlist now! I'm not sure if I would wear it enough to justify a full bottle, the experience is so specific and maybe too grown-up and put together for where I am now. One day...

If you want a suede-heavy fragrance, I cannot emphasize strongly enough how this was made FOR YOU ! I feel like a walking cowhide rug in the best way possible. Upon the initial spray, a highly resinous and animalistic aroma emerges. As it dries down, the presence of patchouli and pink pepper becomes gradually apparent. Surprisingly, an exceptionally delicate fragrance (do not be intimidated by the notes).

Rock the Myrrh was love at first sniff months ago, and a serendipitous Christmas gift. The scent opens with an initial burst of peppery, aromatic notes, which gracefully yield to myrrh, benzoin, and suede, creating a captivating journey. Undeniably sexy, this fragrance confidently makes a statement, leaving an impression that lasts well over 12 hours on my skin, complemented by remarkable sillage.

Smells like the original Thierry Mugler Angel, minus the strong patchouli that so many find offensive. It really smells just like the Angel body oil I used all summer of 2014 laying poolside in Vegas. This is a very sweet amber that’s almost gourmand. It’s lovely, addictive, and I don’t think it’s as polarizing as Angel so don’t let that scare you. If you love sweet ambers, you’ll prob love this.

I love this. It's deep, and natural smelling. I got it with the 15% friends and family discount at Saks. Dries is my favorite luxury designer line lately. It's a little heavy for summer, in my opinion. I would reach for other things. The opening is fresh, and it just gets sexier for me as the suede emerges. I think it leans masculine, being earthy and a bit punchy.

I put a drop of this on my wrist, and although I'm sitting in my living room in my sweatpants, I'm transported to walking around downtown NYC on an autumn night, and the smell of a leather jacket and the sweet tobacco of an unlit cigarette, some dry leaves blowing in the park, and maybe a little incense wafting from a shop. It's both comforting and exciting.

It’s lovely, with toffee and suede shades over benzoin, incense, and of course myrrh, myrrh myrrh done delightfully well. I like it best as a layering agent, as it grounds lighter, fruitier , more floral or sweeter fragrances with its savory woodiness. My favorite combination right now is 2:1 DVN Jardin l’Orangerie with this. It’s heaven!!!

This was a blind buy for me purely based off the notes and wow it was a success, gorgeous fragrance, warm resinous and sweet. If you like fragrances like side effect and cuir majeste you'll love this, im slightly obsessed. I keep catching whiffs of it and it just smells so good, the bottle is beautiful aswell. Its strong too.....like STRONG

Solid myrrh fragrance. Not for everyday use for me, but every now and then I will throw a myrrh fragrance in the rotation. I think I still like Myrrh & Tonka better, only because that vanilla note in there goes so well with the myrrh. Although, I find that this one lasts longer than the Jo Malone. So its a toss up. 7.3/10

Oh my goodness, what a delicious myrrh and soft brown suede combination! For me it's pretty linear, just becomes creamier at the base, not much else going on, but it's so refined and smooth! It's dense, good projection and above average longevity. My favorite from the line by far.

A very warm, oriental fragrance. When I first sprayed it, it reminded me a lot Ambre Narguilé of Hermès. When it dried down it bacame more woody, less sweet. The sillage is enormous, you can not unnotice when someone wearing this scent around you. I love it!

Sweet! Oh, sweet. Did someone already mention how sweet it is? So sweet. Oh gosh. Did i already say that? Sweet and smokey. First 5-10 min that is indeed a very nice gourmand scent, later it's getting less "sugar coma" but still quite a snack. Loved it.

Really really strong fragrance, huge projection and sillage. I sprayed it on a test strip and left it in my room upstairs and I could smell it all the way downstairs in my kitchen. A great smelling fragrance

So gorgeous. It’s sweet, resinous, spicy, and ambery. The leather is there and noticeable but remains nicely balanced with the other notes. So sophisticated, cozy, and inviting. This makes me long for fall.

its dark, its mysterious, its powerful...it may be expensive, but you don't need to spray as much and after your done you can get a refil bottle for half the price...defo worth the money

Will sometimes last 12hrs+ on my skin, lasts for days on fabric. I love myrrh and and this is myrrh done perfectly. There's a nice suede base that becomes more prominent in the dry down.

It’s so good! If you like church smells this one is so nice and I don’t find it peppery. It’s resinous myrrh with a steady deep base, quite a linear perfume.

Sweet resinous incense. So relaxing I'm wearing it to sleep. Can't wait to whip this out on a cold winter day/ night.

Big, resinous, toffee amber, also edible but not tipping over into gourmand. Smells like when they throw the entire department at a perfume. Of course it appeals, but nothing really new. Gotta top making that a critique in a hugely saturated market and when people like certain familiar vibes. Truth is... it's nice. It's well made, it's a good perfume, I'd wear it and I'd say it's a crowd pleaser, and difficult not to enjoy and gives that excited feel of 'Luxury' from walking into a perfume department, and thinking oooooh that's nice. But nothing more and I don't feel like I can praise that, I have to be true to myself and think would I buy this if I had carefully considered it? perhaps not. Would I fall victim to smelling this is a shop and loving it and then regret it afterwards? Yes probably. uPDATE: 8/8/22: Yeah I'm wearing this today and it's quite different to my inital thoughts, yes it's a resinous brew with a raft of sweetness but it's way softer in the wearing than I'd perhaps imagined which makes it a bit less impactful to those looking for something really special from this collection but much more merit from those who just want something wearable and no challenge whatsoever. I've got to say I like it much more today having worn it, it's got a fruity sweet, almost date like quality with that smooth suede, not concocted from the usual tropes of iris materials or suederal or something? Not gonna lie it's making me swoon a little.

A thick, sticky, resinous aroma with veins of smoky evergreen and tendrils of sticky toffee. The darkest, heaviest sibling of the DvN pantheon. There’s something indulgent about this scent; I’d probably enjoy wearing this potion out for cocktails, but wouldn’t want to go the whole day swimming in it. When I run out of this tester I will be sad, but I don’t think I’d use it nearly enough to rationalise a whole bottle. Longevity: strongest sillage of the lot and admirable endurance (>10h on my skin) Mental Snapshot: You’re a goddess made flesh; a high priestess being worshipped before a beach bonfire. Your acolytes line the forested bluffs above, singing your name. You’re definitely getting laid tonight. tl;dr: if I were a prehistoric wasp, I’d get ensnared in this amber 🪔🪵

Oh wow I wish I got a travel size vial of this one instead of Fleur du Mal. The opening of Rock the Myrrh scared me a bit, not going to lie. I instantly felt that myrrh and smoked wood (that I don’t see in the notes here?) like burning palo santo or a light incense note, that I later found to be very aesthetically pleasing, like a an almost witchy or spiritual scent. It had something very very interesting compared to the rest of the line, especially as it was settling down on my skin (middle and drydown). Another one that is unisex but leans slightly feminine just because it got sweeter the more it stayed on the skin and I imagine this on a captivating, sensual, spiritual girl that has fully stepped into her power. Considering getting a travel size vial.

I found this whole line pretty disappointing after trying the discovery set. It's just not of any remarkable quality or unique character, nothing special. But this was a better one that I would probably wear if someone gifted to me. It opens as sweet, ambery, apple cinnamon tea. But it quickly calms down to something more balanced and with more texture. They took out the musty qualities of myrrh for a pleasant, warm and fuzzy myrrh/benzoin/suede accord that I really enjoyed for the remainder of its lifespan. 4 out of 5.

I don’t know what is it about this fragrance but I keep coming back to my sample to sniff it - on paper or my wrist. It’s really soothing and with these warm sweet’ish resins kinda yummy, too It should be a bit too masculine for me to really like it, and normally cypress note is a bit overpowering and too bitter for me, but here it doesn’t bother me too much... I think for a man it’s really really a winner

Mmmm what a fragrance! Wonderfully balsamic and resinous, rich yet modern amber, and that fuzzy suede note! To me this is not a churchy incense fragrance as others have mentioned, which is great as I'm not a fan. Slightly reminiscent of Legacy of Petra if I had to compare it to something, without the licorice note. A surprising love and right behind Soie Malaquais.

Crisp incense, churchy scent. Myrrh, Resins and aldehydes. Something green and fresh right when you apply it. I also detect a bit of a boozy undertone. Clean and refreshing. Really like this one. Unisex. It become powdery skin scent later on. Lasts 24 hours :)

it is a beautiful fragrance, a fancy one with pure class. if you are looking for a loud one, this is not, but if you are trying to send a message of class and sophistication then this is it. PD: its remain me of jubilation from Amouage.

Ok this is really nice, rich and sweet but have been giving it a wear in cooler weather and it doesn’t feel like too much at any point. The suede softens it out and gives it a nice cozy backing without getting too leathery.

It's a sweet myrrh scent, and has an alluring facet to it. One of the best in the line, although still very pricy for what it is. Call me crazy, it somewhat reminds me of Lancome Oud Ambroisie without the oud...

Warm, spicy, woody. Not a safe blind buy. More wearable myrrh parfume, spiciness can be overwhelming for some at the beginning. After some time it smells more fresh, tea and citrusy.

how can you tell the difference between the smell of leather and the smell of suede? like this. suede, especially when it dries down, lasts for hours.

Smells like walking past someone’s cabin in the forest while they’re doing laundry. Can’t decide if I’m rocking with that vibe or not

There’s a sweetness that comes through — I’m not sure what it is, but it’s definitely irritating and throws the whole scent off.

Leathery, spicy, sweet, ambery, and resinous. Very nice and warm winter, fall day and night time scent.

Reminds me of Ambre Chromatique in the opening. Sweet and balsamic

I own and adore Soie Malaquais, which is one of my favorite fragrances and likely will be for a lifetime. I also own and enjoy Jardin de L'Orangerie. I've decanted, sampled and worn a few of the DvN perfumes (most of which, I've liked). So, I'm searching for a substitute amber-incense fragrance to replace my much loved Profumum Roma "Ambra Aurea." Not sure why I thought "Rock The Myrrh" might be the ticket. The good news is I do not feel the need to put out $425 on a full bottle of Rock The Myrrh. The bad news is this perfume is a linear, barely detectable, dry, arid myrrh. Disappointing and not what I've come to expect from this house. LOVE the bottle, though!!

Unfortunately to my nose this smelled kind of like a concoction of room temperature fried chicken cooking oil with a few drops of black hair dye with a hint of crushed black pepper flakes :/ made me feel a bit nauseous It dried down to a slightly more sweet version of what i described but not as harsh and wearable? :|

I love Dries Van Noten the clothing brand, but have been very disappointed in the fragrance samples I've received. They clearly all have pricey ingredients, and all have been very smooth and refined... with little presence and little development. This is not my go-to fragrance aesthetic, which tends to veer towards ELDO Fat Electrician, French Lover, and (on certain days) Tyrannosaurus Rex. I don't think I can give a fair review of their perfumes other than to say they are generally not my vibe, and don't take me anywhere emotionally or conceptually. I imagine... *other* people might appreciate it if I wore things, like this, that were a bit more normal and subdued. ;) This is clearly a "good" fragrance, but just not good in a way that connects with me right now.

Wow. When I first smelled it, I had to shake it off because it is very intense. It's resinous and spicy and you definitly get the leather. Reminds me of older gentlemen drinking brandy after an english hunt in the late fall in their tweeds and boots. I prefer the dry down the opening since it's a bit calmer. Could be considered unisex, but a tad more masculine in my opinion. The right type of confident woman could pull this off.

Going through the tester set this is the only one I disliked. It is definitely a masculine scent and not an easy reach. Myrrh and benzoin are super strong- it gives burnt sugar with leather and spice. It is smokey but in the burnt rubber way. I imagine a guy after riding his bike in the heat, the leather started projecting a scent and you can smell the wheels on the hot rode. It requires a special someone to pull this off.

Wanted to love this, but whew, it’s ALL myrrh on me. I’d might as well get myrrh oil and use that instead. Really lovely peppery tinge when sniffing the bottle which I wish translated on my skin.

I find the opening too loud, too sweet and harsh from the leather... Makes me nauseous. However, the 6~7 hour mark drydown is musky and attractive.

I was blown away for the First 1 minute. I was getting cinnamon note yet there's n9o cinnamon. Sweetness and then all of a sudden after the 2 minutes it just burst out nuclear. Wayyyyy too tooo much. I never thought I would say this but this is too damn cloyingly potent. I dabbed this on from a 1ml. I cannot fathom using an atomizer. There's no way you can wear this to a bar or a Christmas party in a small restaurant, close quarters or indoors. This is really for walking around outside so the cold kind of takes a little bit away from it hopefully. I agree with a lot of you. This became too sickly sweet and STRONG. I have this on skin on my top right forearm and its not stopping. The only critique I would have about this is if they can tone down that sweetness to at least 40% less. Great scent, but way too potent. Headache inducing. It says above "if you like this you would like.... Grand Soir." If they can get the sweetness of Grand Soir , this would not be so bad. Grand Soir has just enough.
