Leatherize

If you want to capture this into one entity, its like sniffing wet rubber tire that's been recently used but on high speeds, but after its cooled down a bit (in a slightly smoky sense). You could also interpret this as if you really smelled into a dark pure leather--for all the other "leather" fragrances out there, this is what so many of them can even hope to be! That's a pretty big acclaim from being a leatherhead myself...extremely addicting slight smoky aura, combined with a prominent note of wet rubber/dark leather base. This claims to be a transparent leather, and sure enough, I can also say that this is a very neutral but oh-so-real-to-life leather! You could literally layer this with something else, no sweetness, no aromatics bias to something else [e.g. spices, aquatic, etc]. The leather note, you can tell has been accentuated with just enough cade, myrrh, and cypriol to bring the carnal nature of rubber's aromatic smell out. The rubber notes are really initial facets--the drydown comes across as a realistic leather. Truly a masterpiece in modern perfumery. This is like the cousin of HUNQ - Boxer, but purely in the neutral sense, and any semblance of this is what I expected from most (if not almost all) "leather" fragrance I've tried honestly (so far). Per the usual, some of Fragrantica's notes don't really make any sense since it's not even present--this is not in the stretch of the imagination, balsamic (only if you're overapplying it), or fresh spicy-like. But as far as the pure leather/rubber smell is concerned, @ashed has already succinctly summarized this--this is the *endgame* fragrance. The only bummer is that it's longevity on garment is rather just below average [no more than 4hrs, usually noticeably less] before becoming a "skin scent", which is strange for an EDP, maybe bad batch/chemical interactions, don't really know but sensual for sure. Another thing to note is that this becomes somewhat more muted on garment than on skin. a word of caution: it's relatively easy to get olfactory fatigue from this 1/19/26-EDIT: If you want another frag in the same veil of leather realism, take a look at Cuir (Leather) by Alkemia Perfumes (and that risks less of being discontinued as of now) 4/26/26 - This frag is unfortunately discontinued!

If you’ve smelled the fantastic Amber Kiso by the same house you should know what to expect here. To my nose it’s the same leather accord created for Amber Kiso, only a bit stronger, and with all the wood and subtle sweetness stripped away. The result is a very minimalist and impressively realistic leather scent, that’s quite dry and astringent. It opens Smokey with just a tinge of meatiness that might give a slight bbq impression. As it dries it becomes more translucent and slightly rubbery. It reminds me of the smell of the inside of a new pair of leather sneakers. My initial layering attempt was mixed. I added it to Valentino Uomo Intense (a frag I only half like) which has a barely detectable leather note in it’s opening. Leatherize took over pretty quickly and the saffron and castoreum didn’t play well. So some care is obviously needed when layering. They suggest florals and ambers. Unsurprisingly it smells great with Amber Kiso, taking it in a stronger leather direction. It puts a little more cowboy in Cowboy Grass as well. In short, this is a fun but overpriced fragrance toy that more or less works as advertised. If you are just looking for a leather perfume I’d go for Amber Kiso first, but if you love leather and tinkering with fragrances you should love this as well. Update: Ends up being more versatile and addictive than I thought. Already wishing I had gone for 100ml instead of 50 so upgrading my score. From sweet vanilla (dulcis in fundo), to patchouli, to classic men’s scents (New York Intense) this stuff just works really well as an enhancer.

This is leather, straight up. I stumbled upon it when looking for a replacement for the now discontinued "Vierges et Toreros" from État Libre d'Orange, and am really happy with it. Although it doesn't have the floral elements of Vierges et Toreros, it does have all of the smoky leather—which was always the main attraction of VeT for me. If you're interested in layering, this wears beautifully over DS&Durga's "Amber Kiso". When I tried it at the perfume store directly off the bottle, it stayed on my skin for over 24 hours even though I only sprayed it once. When I tried it off a 1.5ml decant, it didn't last as long—around 6 - 8h instead of a whole day. So if you've got a decant/sample and it's not as long-lasting as you'd expect based on the reviews, try to find a local retailer and see if it lasts longer on your skin straight off the bottle.

This is awesome! I've been wearing it alone and layered up, really enjoying it this fall. Straight up leather, but it gets creamy, soft and round in the heart and base. I wore it with gaiac 10 and I felt like the smoky facets of gaiac 10 were amplified in a truly stunning way. Love this house and I think they really shine at these layering fragrances, as I don't know what and Crystal Pistil (rip) are my favorite offerings.

This is the perfect fragrance for leather and smoke lovers.Many says it smells like a campfire.This is my current favourite scent ,but the longevity and projection are amazing aswell. I get 12+ hours longevity and it is one of the strongest fragrance that I've tried. Also the fact it can be used as it's own fragrance or to enhance a fragrance is great.

Got a sample. Starts out smelling like a new leather jacket, dries down into a nice "creamy" leather, which I can assume is from the orris and myrrh. It's absolutely beautiful as someone who loves leather smells, and makes me consider actually buying.

It smells like brand new shoes! Very literal but perhaps even more like rubber than leather. A perfect scent to wear to a heavy metal bar.

This is not for everyone, if fact, it’s probably not for most. Leatherize is neither buttery nor supple — instead it is brutal and stiff — and it is rather uncooperative as far as layering goes. It reminds me of Colonial Bohea... if you know that tea, you know what I mean. Smoky, assertive, intimidating. I go for months without touching my bottle, and then I’ll wear it for two weeks straight. I enjoy it alone, or with certain other scents. When layering, you have to apply it just right— misting it and briefly stepping into the fragrance gives you that bonfire smell. Real bonfire, not some candy ass toasted marshmallow BS. If you blind buy this you are borderline psychotic, and I love it. You’ve been warned.

A smell of a shoe store offering shoes of vair all sewn with synthetic leather. With the little ball of crumpled paper that goes in the middle: you have the whole panorama. It's rather bold, funny, lively, not the deepest leathery scent of all time, but at the same time very contemporary and enveloping. With always this small smoky aspect that they master well (although it becomes in the long run a little redundant). Nice, then, and extra credits for the incredible hold of their perfumes. Not the leather of the century, but could legitimately be added to a list of simple but pleasant leathers.

This is dead on, dead to rights leather. It's kind of amazing. It smells like a brand new leather jacket. Just a touch of animalic, a little rubberiness. I didn't really get much smokiness, which I expected from the cade oil. Pretty much just leather. If you are trying to leather up an existing fragrance, or if you just want to smell like straight up leather, there is a good chance you will love this.

Aged, dirty leather that's been sitting in a basement for decades, that's how this perfume smells like. No sweetness, and thankfully no raspberries(I am so fed up of leather-raspberry combo!!!) Daring, original, unique. Not many people are going to be able to wear it, unfortunately. It's really an acquired taste. I like it's originality, but I'm not sure I'll purchase it.

This is a true leather scent, perhaps the most realistic one I've tried. The opening is a dark, heavy, boozy, masculine leather. As it settles down, it opens up with a lighter, more aromatic accord, and the dark leather is joined by a soft hint of iris. This is a 100% earthy, masculine fragrance that any fan of leather should enjoy.

This is a leather-smelling lovers leather. I mean put on your black leather jacket, chaps and helmet mount your baddest Harley and make your way to Sturgis leather. And it doesnt relent. At least for the four hours it lasted on my skin. Not a daily wear but a great accent for the right outfit and event.

This is a black leather car interior, a pair of pointy boots, too many guys in a basement wearing near new moto jackets. An initial almost vinyl "squeak" smooths out, but there is a distinct bite throughout. A little brash in a great way.

I like it a lot. Smoky leather opening, then woodsy drydown similar to bowmakers. Almost like amber kiso mixed with bowmakers. Long lasting. A bit pricey. A bit synthetic smelling. Overall 7.5/10

First I want to mention: personally I don't like dense leather scents anymore but my husband does. I have an endless experience of deep, dark leather scents and earlier I even loved to wear them myself, for example "Cuoium | Orto Parisi" used to be the one of my favourites. The name of a fragrance sometimes guides first impressions, and that was the case with this fragrance. My initial impression of Leatherize was "wow, what a strong dirty leather". Anyway after smelling it more closely, the leather is not the most authentic one and I don't even get that unpleasant feeling which I used to nowadays when smelling some dark (pungent or smooth, it doesn't matter) leather scent. The note which plays a major role is Cade oil (Juniper): It's extremely tar-like and smoky quality is confusingly natural, intoxicating, and reminds me of a sticky, melted tar pastille candy. At the same time, the middle notes bring an intense earthy nuance to the fragrance, which strengthens the already tarry scent. I don't find any gourmand nuances here because of Butterscotch but it's possible that it makes this concoction easier. Somewhere behind all this, there is surprisingly soft, tender and smooth leather, not the dirty leather saddle which was an immediate association. As the scent develops it becomes more and more pleasant and easy going, but it doesn't change much otherwise. It doesn't have any distinct phases, as the middle and base notes are very clearly present from the start. Only the Iris and Castoreum develop slowly, creating a powdery and intense, yet refined and sensual animalic note to the aroma. It is very, very innocent though. If thinking the quality of the scent, I would say it's good. It's nicely blended and it smells completely natural. Anyway it's nothing groundbreaking nor ingenious but I can't name anything completely similar either. My husband fell in love with it but to my nose it's still too leathery and above all too tarry. I don't necessarily want him to smell like this, even though the smell is not unpleasant in any way. There's no association with Amber Kiso which is a work of wearable art imo. This is simply smoked leather. I wore at a standalone scent and not a booster. As a leather fragrance on it's own, it's below average. I love this brand and the artistry of the proprietor and perfumer DSM, but this one is a miss IMO. Gucci Guilty Absolute, Tuscan Leather, Clive Christian C, or Amber Kiso are all superior to this. Scent 4/10 Performance 7/10

Smells like barbecue chips. Sweet, smoky, synthetic. Hint of Suederal. Not the leather I'm looking for. Buy a $5 sample of birch tar that will last you a lifetime.

The aroma of new leather seats. An evergreen tree hanging from the rearview mirror. Ok I guess if you want to smell like a car interior.

Smokey meaty leather. Heavy for what’s supposed to be a layering fragrance. Be careful with over-spraying.

My foray into leather perfumes culminated in the blind buy of this fragrance, I regret that. I worked at a shoe repair shop for years, and the only leather this reminds me of is the old thick leather used in wester belts. Instead this reminds me more of the woods, a resinous, piney fragrance with the smoke of a wild fire from years ago. While I understand the concept of "Leatherize" I wouldn't categorize it as such, at least not as it was on my skin. It started almost unbearably animalic, emphasizing any surrounding notes. After about an hour it was a pleasant woodsy fragrance, before fully mellowing out into the skin scent of working with leather. I am sure this fragrance is for someone, but not me.

I agree this is the most realistic leather I've ever smelt. Its like stuffing your nose in a full grain top quality leather bag or gloves. Similar vibes to Amber Kiso minus the slight sweet, dusty feel from Amber Kiso. Most realistic accord of leather + some petrolium//gas note (at least to me, hopefully someone else can comment if they pick up on a gas/petro accord) Im not a layering guy buy any means but I think this should be layered w/ a floral note. Maybe IRIS?

oh man. i heard good things about this (for leather lovers) but it just smells like barbecue to me! straight up smokey charcoal grill and steak rub! i absolutely can't stand it

A bespoke leather belt fragrance which may or may not have been given a certain transparency or neutrality. Showed it to a friend, first thing he noticed was strong black pepper. And it's pretty much always orris that gives smoothness. But no flowers, no citrus, no fruit, no living plants, no vanilla, patchouli or amber. Although not overly exciting, this is a finished composition of course. But it makes sense to explore the "enhancer' concept with leather exactly, as there are countless leather-less fragrances one may experiment with, and sometimes turn them upside down or just put some skin in the game. I can tell there's a certain ambiguity built in it that allows pairing well with a variety of notes. This may work the opposite way too: that other scent could enhance certain aspect of Leatherize: the animalic, spicy or clean side. Sweetest thing is, different ratios would also yield totally different results. Surely you don't really need a special permission or category to layer your fragrances the way you want. It really bothered me with Trussardi's Musc Enhancer, for instance. But with a leather like this, I agree it's an useful tool.

This is a full, rich, unapologetic hyper-realistic leather. This is leathery leather leather, stretched over cedarwood with a bit of green aromatic earthiness. I love layering leather with otherwise too-sweet perfumes (which is sadly pretty common with my skin chemistry) and this is a terrific option. I also adore Corpus Equus by Naomi Goodsir, which delivers a slightly more animalic and smokey rose version of a leatherbomb.

I’m not sure how or why, but upon my first sniff I was hit with the snell of barbecue. I’ve never had such a strong reaction to a fragrance before but I found this one repulsive. I’ve read the other reviews abc I’m trying to rectify what I smelled with what I’m reading here but I just can’t. It’s amazing how personal scent is! This one wasn’t a win for me but DS & Durga does make such unique fragrances.

Pls send help, I got folded into a hide-a-bed in the world’s leatheriest couch and then they dumped a bottle of liquid smoke on it. Then they shoved like 70 leather belts between all the cushions. 😵💫 It’s just so, so, so much, and I’m not a leather lover at baseline. This could well be for someone, but that someone isn’t me.

I wanted to love this scent. But I don't. It's like getting hit in the face with a leather handbag, then left for dead on the side of the road as the other scents--the musk, the oranges, and other things that are far too sweet--run over your face and give you a pounding migraine.

Very realistic scent. If I were to use it, it would only be to enhance the scent of my leather jacket haha. It reminds me a bit a smell of grease in an old railway depot, the opening is very brutal, but with class. Stays on skin for very long. Undeniably men's bottle

Nearly identical to The Zoo's Club Design/Scent Tattoo with the Durga dna simmering underneath. Way too potent and distinct to be considered an "enhancer" in my opinion. I prefer The Zoo's creation (and price point).

Obtained a sample of this while testing leather fragrances. As a stand alone, it goes on like barbecue and cigarettes and dries down to naugahyde. On my skin, almost imperceptible after a few hours.

This is brilliant for leather lovers, not you then don't get it. Literally has leather in the name, haha. Very realisticaly wonderful. Give it a sample if leather is your go to.
