Siberian Snow

cold but comforting. the mint gives a true chill, and does *not* remotely suggest of menthol, as i find a lot of mint notes do. the powdery amber rounds out any sharp edges from the mint, creating a fragrance that is soft and gentle, though aloof. siberian snow is an atmosphere -- i find it to be a january, feb, march fragrance; one for those desaturated days.

Agreed, completely unisex. I bought Siberian Snow in a small boutique because I had a store credit and I needed to make a purchase. After sampling several from DS Durga, I took home Siberian Snow. It's taken me several years to use 1/2 a bottle, so it's not a love but it is a strong like. I do find it easy to wear in all seasons, including summer when I like it best. The incense and patchouli give this composition longevity without projection. And that's why it works for me in warmer weather. What I don't like is how heavy I am with the trigger. One or two sprays does not do it. So on the occasion I do apply, I go full throttle. Definitely has the natural, niche vibe, but I likely will not purchase again, as it's also a little dull. I can easily forget I'm wearing it. *Edit: Today is a warm spring day, and Siberian Snow is still going strong after 7 hours, so I really believe this scent needs warmth to fully bloom.

Powdery musky amber. The perfume evokes a frosty Russian landscape and reminds me very much about the smells of the chic fashion districts in Moscow or Prague. The perfume opens with aromatic notes of wintergreen, mint, labdanum and incense. The brief heart showcases styrax, jasmine and patchouli. The perfume settles quickly into a musky powdery base of amber, civet, and opoponax. Unisex, beautifully blend f with moderate, sillage and projection. A unique and haunting experience. Enjoy!

This perfume was rather disappointing. All I smelled here was strong amber, a bit of incense and potentially some wood. I was really hoping for something more multi-faceted, with mint in there and all, but it remained a balmy ambery scent for the 1-2 hours that it lasted on my skin. I liked the other perfumes by DS & Durga that I sampled at Anthropologie...but this wasn't as good.

notes of 'siberian snow' on the DS&Durga website: "TOP NOTES.wintergreen mint.cistus labdanum.incense HEART NOTES. styrax.jasmine sambac.patchouli BASE NOTES.amber.civet.opoponax" everything you say about this perfume could just as easily immediately be withdrawn also because it is capricious in the notes it promotes and athmospheres suddenly thrown in and back. it started so demure and already the patch I spritzed is bombarding me with harsher and sharper notes. yet I have learned to love this perfume through and through. the perfume which has such beautiful accompanying narrative at "Lucky Scent": "In a gauzy room is a cedar marriage kist, loved and serene, hand-painted with faded lover's cups, keys, hearts, trees and entwined initials. The lid opens with a whoosh of camphor, minted air and powder from garments folded away with the duck-egg blues and blush of heirloom comforters. The ornate scent of pomanders and dried flowers permeates the wood and layers of lining paper, crisp and failing under careful fingers. As you lift the trousseau and inhale, the scent of a hundred dazzling balls comes waltzing back to life; perfume and sweet smoke, flushed skin and a sense of tomorrows never dawning." this is also not a linear, systematically developing perfume as it is facetory, diamanté. another key word to describe this mysterious perfume was also offered by Lucky Scent: "haunting". my experience of the perfume actually started with the narrative and the possession of the flacon (plus also, narrative) of "Burning Barbershop". then it is further up to ones own personal tastes which of the iconic perfumes appeals most to personal preferences. well it then was this one. if there is a linear development in the emanating notes of the perfume it is that it keeps becoming more mysterious (as also: dense and dark). a 'prismatic' scent with enough poise for us to throw our Russian contessa to the fore, entertaining fromout of her Dasha. what most reviewers here say: we smell the amber, true but it is a 'safran troublant' so an almost accusatory amber. the labdanum is evident and much similar to leLabos "Labdanum18". now and then in the beginning I got whiffs of pleasant mint. the resinoid character of this perfume suffuses gradually with styrax, incense and a refined civet. it will often be a jasmine (or rose) that makes a great flowery accent as is here also perfectly the case and then the perfume "turns" again (indeed also playing with the doubleness of this term) to show another chimaera, a shadow on the inertness of diaphanous siberian snow. within these moodswings a strong iconologic emblem nevertheless, as civet, opoponax and incense deliver real timereleased olphactoric consistency yesterday lasting 6++ hours several times. as one then also get previous aspects with newly awoken notes the mystery lasts. an anisic mint gets revived again. we revel in a forgotten past wafted to us by those thinnest folding papers as haunting as intruiguing. this all, to also attest to the 'fact' that the art of perfumery has more to do with alchemy and magic, intuition and sensibility as (also but considerably less) with marketing and saleslogistics, 'public taste' and plastic. Durga (art) and Moltz (perfumery) stand for a magnificent 'team' to create wonderful perfumes and that they fit in a nichiste world of perfumes, give this specific world a higher cachet alltogether. same could be said of 'Parfums Dusita' and 'Vero.Profumo' allbeit again in entirely different regions. that 'Siberian Snow' gives leeway to such ponderings again attests back to the veritable mystique ways of its notes, narrative, sheer unpredictability and yet strong embossment of identity (Russian-New York). and this from an authentic 80s reveler of poison-giorgio-obsession-knowing-coco-nahema-gem.

DS & Durga scents are never safe; niche fragrances aim to suggest(sometime gently, sometimes strongly) to take a risk on an unforgettable olfactory journey, and with DS & D the results always pay off and shatter expectations. This brilliant genderless composition guides one from the hard chilly crispness of a boreal forest wherein life's energy is all potential and stored-up, to subtle whispers of eros and warmth, wherein life is already dancing, so in this way it is very much a winter/spring scent, rather than a fall/winter scent. The opening is exquisitely crisp and dry, a small fire of fallen leaves, roots, and twigs, oozing with amber, and this smoky haze is delicately coupled with the slightly sweet musk of a man who worked all day. And this man stands within this haze, chewing his favorite mint gum to help quell his anxiety of being in such a forbidding place. Incense and patchouli come into play as he begins to bed down for the evening and load his pipe. The heart of the fragrance comes like a gossamer memory of the man's long-gone beloved, hinted at by soft rhythmic waves of fresh jasmine, which crest and break upon him, challenging the omnipotence of this incense haze of self-obsessed sadness that he's created in light of her absence. The dry-down is EXTREMELY dry, and leads in with the ever-present amber but adds mild sandlewood and other woody accords, which instead of hit you head-on, envelop you in a peaceful darkness. memory and reality blend, and the man can rest easier now.

For a while, the only place that carried DS & Durga in my town was in a store that cared little for presentation. Each time I visited, the place looked like closing time at WalMart with merchandise strewn all over haphazardly. This line was no exception, and you’d be hard pressed to find a bottle with a working sprayer to actually try them out. Needless to say, that store went under and I swore I’d return to DS & Durga at a later date, but my initial exposure to them was that they were a bit on the harsh side with some general balance issues. Anyhow, they’re now within reach again at a much better spot so I’m finally giving them the spin they deserve. Unfortunately, Siberian Snow — a scent that got my interest from the description — was not the best choice to begin with. It’s ambroxan, patchouli, civet, something vaguely citric . . . and it’s terrible. It sits somewhere between the white musk powder of cashmeran and a fistful of civet replacer. It doesn’t change much and smells utterly sophomoric. There’s just not much more I can say about this one, but if you’re exploring the line for the first time, don’t make the mistake I made and sit this one out. Very bad.

Siberian Snow is mainly a woody all-season fragrance with some floral elements. Testing it out in the summer definitely leads me to believe that this could be comfortably worn in the summer but still be truer to a winter selection. The mint and patchouli come off to me like pine and resin, but the prominence of these notes suggests a cold weather fragrance to me, especially the mint, which I do not associate with summer. Decent on projection and longevity, Siberian Snow marks the last of a sample pack of D.S. & Durga from Luckyscent, and I'm left with a similar impression to most---namely, that it's another scent that's intriguing and smells very natural but simply may not be worth the price tag (they're all $125 or $145 for 50ml). The best in the line was one of the strongest, Bowmakers, so I may go back and try that, but like most, Siberian Snow is good but probably not good enough to consider buying. 6 out of 10

It's herbal and musky, nice for a colder weather. I got the full bottle at a decent price, blind buy. It's the first time I am wearing it. Get whiffs of leather alonf with herbs and musk. All in all so far so good, I get whiffs of it as I move (I put three sprays) and i like it. Hopefully, it will last through the day.

Scent - subtle amber, diluted incense & woods. Season/Time of Day - I prefer to use this one in the colder months, day or night. Projection - I didn't get noticed, I didn't get a compliment. Longevity - I get 6hrs consistently.

This is an interesting one and something about it I find quite compelling and comforting. However I would never describe this as a feminine composition, it's completely unisex.

Lovely mix of wood amber floral but no longevity or silliage. Sadly the journey ends with my sample.
