Sir

I so want to love perfumes from this company: Scrappy Brooklyn start-up hand blending fine fragrences to compete with some of the most respected boutiques in the world. It's an all American underdog story! And they have really cool-ass bottles! So far, it's been more 'like' than 'love' though. As Vincents noted, this is sort of a pseudo-Chypre: I didn't really get any kind of musk or oakmoss, and definately no citrusy anything - but I'd agree that smelling on paper there is some spice here. On my skin, however, whaterver mace that is there disappears and I get like 90% amber with the other 10% jasmine/floral sitting way in the background. I wear Bois 1920 Vetiver Ambrato, and this feels like it could be the base for that - all it needs is like 100 more ingredients to actually be interesting. To be fair, I'm biased against really linear scents - I like my cologne to waft me with differnt notes thru-out the day - and this plays on me like it's 3 or four ingredients which just don't coalesce into anything greater than the sum of parts. Long lasting, though. I could easily still smell this up on my wrist 10 hours after putting it on, and my parts per billion nose girlfriend picked up sillage hours after that. So if you want to smell like amber, amber, amber and more amber for a loooong time, pick some up. If, like me, you like a little more personality in your scents, pass.

A spicy masculine addition to the D.S. & Durga line, Sir is a spicy combination of bergamot, galbanum, and patchouli. So it has a bright, citrus opening but is rooted more deeply in the resin of the galbanum and the earthiness of the patchouli, and these both dominate the bergamot after a very brief opening. Sir is surely stringent enough that it will impress some but offend others, and in that respect, I could see this being a man's signature scent. It sits pretty well on my skin, so I could see myself using it as a cold weather option, but it's a bit too dark for warm weather use. Certainly a must-try for men, especially if you've liked the other heavy masculine entries in the D.S. & Durga line, i.e. Bowmakers and Burning Barbershop. 7 out of 10

Spicier chypre than most green, wet, cypress, oakmoss chypre scents. This one has a bit of grit and woody tobacco spice. I like this one a lot and more than the old Marblehead Reds by DS & Durga. Like it more than Chypre by Essentially Me (cumin shouldn't be worn).

I don't purport to be able to split the notes of any fragrance and frankly I don't believe most reviewers do either. Most people are average, average people buy fragrances because they like them or have been swayed by the impressions of others. So! My impressions of fragrances err towards near perfect, ok, not quite sure or not for me, i like to keep it real. Sir is my fourth D.S. & Durga buy, there is a definite common theme, I'd say 'underlying' but it's prominent and it could be said it makes them all a bit samey. The note makes my mouth water, theres a taste memory in there ... something that makes the corners of my mouth salivate and screw my face a little ... cough sweets?? I 'just WANTED' another D.S. & D ... no need for another and reading the impressions of Sir, it's not an obvious buy. I unpacked, opened, sprayed, sniffed and ... mmm not alot. Bit disappointed. Wondered how i could return it. But as the day progressed I kept getting the distinctive notes and i kept sniffing myself, I always spray my chest and stick my nose down my shirt to breathe myself in :o) Sir is not spoken of, D.S.& D are generally not spoken of .. this is a great shame. Oh right, the smell ... its a definite near perfect (to me)

oh.. that's quite of a Sir! it's like an Extreme Nectar perfume of a cologne! is it truly there is no lemon in here or even citrus? it's quite strong and very masculine. it could smell like a cheap fragrance yet it could be an amazing fragrance of a powerful personality man! this fragrance is like the cologne used back then around 1800 but overdose. need more testing.

Spicy very warm oakmoss chypre with tobacco undertones. Masculine but could be pulled off by a woman.
