Cotton Candy

I have perfume oil - don't think it comes any different than an oil. I don't exactly have some freshly spun cotton candy to test against but I can say the my new acquisition of DSH Perfumes Cotton Candy IS YES indeed very cotton candy-esque. I am going to give you my caveat upfront. Well perhaps caveat is not the right word? Anyhow, DSH has a similar base in their scents - a DSH DNA if you will. It does add complexity to the scents, it is not bad, but it is distinct. I will call it a teeny teeny bit hippy style. And NO, it is not patchouli. I want to say vaguely incense or resinous ambery vanilla... but it is not really. Don't let this put you off. It works very well here in DSH Cotton Candy. This scent - starts off with all of the notes blasting out (yes Fragrantica has them WRONG - it is more than just Vanilla and Cotton Candy here). The prominent note off the top is a distinct Strawberry spun sugary accord. The scent is smells syrupy thick, sweet sugar that has been caramelized. There is a cooked sugar vibe to it all the way through. Underneath everything is that DSH DNA base. The scent lasts hours and hours. Throughout the wear, I keep saying to myself, yes this actually is very cotton candy. The dry down is more vanilla sugar but it is like that scent in the air surrounding a cotton candy stand at the carnival. I think its worth a go for sure. It is VERY different than Pink Sugar - which has a prominent licorice note and a WHOLE ton of MUSK! DSH is much more of a natural oil that is much closer to real cotton candy spun sugar.

My first ever perfume was Juice Bar Cotton Candy when I was 3. It's a very nostalgic note for me so I've been dying for a layering scent with just the right amount of strength and campiness. DSH tends to always lend a little sophistication to their perfumes and that holds true for their rendition of Cotton Candy. It is soft and sweet and pleasant and I'm thinking would pair with a delicate musk to give it some oomph. Very different vibe than many a 2000's cotton candy body spray, perhaps baby pink rather than hot pink. But is it realistic enough? I'm not so sure if it immediately strikes me as a cotton candy perfume. It's more of a cake with light pink frosting, maybe the subtlest pink bubblegum in the background. Pleasant and not bothersome in any way. I would love for Dawn to do a Retrograde Files rendition of this, even if it's not her typical style, and refresh the formula a little. It's a bit too weak as it is to stand on its own.

I had a small oil roller-ball of this. It reminded me a lot of Aquolina Pink Sugar, but perhaps nicer and less chemical; a straight-up cotton candy scent.
