Foxy

At first I found the perfume to be a bit revolting. It took me back to the 80's, to my parents' friends' house. They had 70's style furniture, a big dog, and there was always some type of cologne-like fragrance lingering around. Foxy seriously smelled like their house; like a wet dog and some cheap men's cologne. I resisted the urge to scrub it because it was so darn intriguing and animalic in a way that I swear I have not yet encountered in perfumery. I mean there's sweat, urine, feces, barnyard, skin-musk, but never have a smelled a perfume of wet dog. I went about my evening, tried to get the image of that house out of my mind. About an hour later, I checked my wrist to see how it was developing, and ohhh myyyy, it was marvelous! The most wonderful cozy, elegant amber ever. No trace of wet dog. An addictive amber that I would bear the scent of that house for over and over again. I am quite hooked on it. It's such an uncommon amber too. It's not like play-do (which I do love!), nor is it like labdanum or any other number of specific resins. I honestly can't put my finger on it! I can only describe it as intoxicatingly rich. It wasn't until later that I found out that the perfumer's intention was to create an intensely animalic scent, the scent of a fox's fur with a "feral fur accord". I'd say she achieved her goal! I would imagine a wild fox to smell a lot like a wet dog. So now that I have a little background info, I find the perfume to be quite clever and artistic. I have been very impressed with a lot of synthetic and botanical animalics lately. I always mention Binturong by Auphorie, and then there's Salome, but this one was one of the most difficult I've ever encountered. Still, I have grown to deeply love it. My review is for the Voile. Where my mind takes me when I wear Foxy... I'm at the 'Farm' (my uncle's wooded grounds) walking through the old apple tree grove. My companion is their wonderful sable Collie, named "Wolf". We're pushing through the brambles and walking under the apple trees. I can smell the apples that have fallen, and are turning that cider/brandy smell (so good!) It is a bit damp, but warm, and all the woodsy smells are surrounding us. I reach down and push my fingers through Wolf's thick fur and I enjoy the dusty, animal scent of him. We're having such an outdoor adventure... Foxy is a gorgeous, semi-vintage in feel, sort of apple-sweet animalic fragrance. I love how the sweetness comes and goes in waves, always very natural, and quite enticing. Foxy lasts a long time, and I've gotten several complements while wearing it. It does have a 'furry' sense about it that is refined, smart, and fun. Wonderful...

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz is such an artist; she really has a magic touch with animalics. Spicy sexy opening leads into hours of fruity, slightly boozy, lightly sweet, always changing waves of fur, leather, salty skin set on a mossy, woody, resinous bed of gorgeousness. It lasts 8 hours on my perfume-eating skin and because Dawn is so gifted at making fragrances that live and grow, I stay captivated the entire time. Another DSH masterpiece.

In technical terms this is a warm spicy amber animalic. That doesn't do justice to the experience. Like DSH's magnificent Le Serval, Foxy captures the aura/spirit of the fox. Dawn has an incredible ability to convey texture in her perfumes as well as emotion and color. Though animalic, Foxy is more cuddly than scary on the skank scale.

Nice scent, love the concept of the fox. I get a spicy amber/animal note, definitely not sweet. It has very low projection on my skin at least. So, if you're looking for something that projects in a room, this is not for you. But in an intimate occasion, this is very sexy and animalistic. Like a fox..

I couldn't resist blind buying this after reading about it on Dawn's blog. She wrote that the fragrance is "telling the story of the smart, sexy, creative, wild animals that foxes are. And stylish... always, intelligent and stylish." Also this... "I gave Foxy a bit more leather, sweat, and skin in the accords I created. I wanted you to really sense that this is a wild, sensuous animal that could be a bit scratchy in places." Primary notes are a spiced apple brandy and ambergris, though the note pyramid is complex. This is definitely more animalic than I expected based on the notes. The hyraceum is not playing around, but the light sweetness keeps it from being overwhelming. I definitely pick up spice and cider, but not necessarily apple. Dawn wrote that she was trying for a different "texture" with this fragrance from her other recent animalic launches, trying for a furry feeling. I wouldn't have come to that conclusion without reading her blog, but I definitely feel the fur when I smell it! And I may have buried the lede, because my husband immediately exclaimed that I smelled great and wanted to pounce on me after I sprayed this. This is THE furry animal scent. And yes it fits the idea of a fox (an animal that I adore btw). I bought a dram bottle (for now). It's a very clever perfume but it's not an easy one. I can definitely smell the animalic notes. They are noticeable. And it's damn boozy. To me it smells like high quality Calvados. A big thumb up since Calvados is great ! The dry down is more softer and spicy. It is very well wade. DSH has a special talent. She's making realistic, artistic and top quality perfumes. It is not something you'll find anywhere else. If you're a perfume adventurer (and likes animalic scents) give this a try.

Its a lovely warm spicy modern animalic perfect for fall and winter. Quality, unique and super offering from DSH.

I just got this and applied to my skin. At first it is a sharp boozy spice smell. I could pick out the whisky and probably the oak and spices the most. After it dried down it got softer with the amber and a hint of vanilla coming forward. This is a very warm and spicy scent. It isn't overly loud but (for me) it is more of a night time/special occasion type of scent. It does remind me a bit of the discontinued Black Cashmere from Donna Karen.

Boozy sour leather. This is a ginger whisky leather with more doses of spices. It has cumin, whisky, amber, thyme, ginger, & peach. This is a sweet animalic style of fragrance that supposed to present the fox, and I believe this could present foxes. Very interesting. Edit (10th June 2018) This is velvety, and quite soft animalic with that tingle touch of ecstasy. I sense sensuality in this at max with an intimacy appealing.
