Lumiere (Holiday no.7)

I loved this right off the bat. Love the spices, the creaminess, the slight coffee note that permeated everything. It does go into a weird furniture polish territory for a few minutes but I think it backs out really quickly and settles in for another, deeper wave of spice and woodiness that is quite delectable. Sort of reminiscent of the Cafe Noir I tried, but more bright and lively. It has very low projection/sillage but the longevity is great it will last forever. Overall I just really enjoyed smelling it on me all day, my husband said I smelled like cookies. 8/10 (A note about the house itself, I just have to say DSH really went above and beyond sending me additional samples to try to find me a 'signature' scent. Really appreciate that kind of attention to customers!)

Notes from DSH website: TOP- bergamot, cardamom, cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg, HEART- almond milk, hazelnut, rum accord, sweet cream, BASE- sandalwood, coffee absolute, opoponax & Peru balsam. Lumiere is one of those mysterious perfumes I donned expecting to smell all delicious and yummy from its listed notes. Osmagining something in the ballpark of PG's Aomassai No.10 or Roucel's rich New Haarlem, both coffee dominant one even sharing hazelnut as a note. A shadowy scrumptious scent this is indeed; a straight-forward potable perfume however, this is not. To my nose's delight and my palette's chagrin it's all the better for it! It's a wonderful olfactory interplay of dark hefty base-notes with a warmly bright spicy top. All of this surrounds a creamy holiday cocktail of rum almond and hazelnut in the heart. So, yes it has coffee, nuts, spice and booze-infused cream; but no, it's not a gourmand-more of an avant-garde spicy incense-rich anti-gourmand! May the Perfume Gods bless Dawn Spencer Hurwitz as deeply and abundantly as she has blessed us with her art! Sillage: 4/5 Longevity: 3.5/5 Overall: 3.75/5 With a name like Lumiere I osmagined something warm and glowing (like a torch or the olfactory equivalent of that singing candelabra in Walt Disney's "Beauty & the Beast"). I did not expect to belly up to the old Spice Bar for a few rounds; let alone stop again for an enticing nutty milk-based creamy refreshment spiked with dark rum. I was rewarded, as my anticipated olfactory brew finally arrived, strong & stout on a sandalwood tray with two lumps of sweet resins. When Lumiere settles to a spice-kissed balmy incense lover's bliss it never sits too heavy on skin and elicited both sigh and purr with each successive wrist sniffing! I came in for the coffee, enchanted by the spice, but stayed for the groovy dark & romantic scene... Smell swell & be well, GP xox

I get the spices and whipped cream with just a whiff of chocolate... discernable coffee would have been better. Reminds me of something from Kyse, just feels unfinished.

It's a 107 degree California day in mid September, but I uncovered a decant of Lumiere that I had not yet tried and decided to give it a whirl. I am not disapointed! It starts like a bowl full of awesome vanilla ice cream--not the cheapie generic stuff, but the real vanilla bean stuff--with a shot of cinnamon whiskey poured over the top. It's a rich concoction of cinnamon and vanilla that is delectable. As the fragrance dries down, a lightly peppery-spicy note arrives. It adds a bit of depth and interest to this scent. Lumiere is a lovely scent. It's rather like L Lolita Lempicka, but without the citrusy notes. Despite it's title as a holiday scent, I have no trouble enjoying it in the summer; it would be great for those who enjoy a lightly sweet, rich vanilla. I don't care for overly sweet vanillas, and this is certainly not. I don't get the coffee note, which is too bad; maybe some of the developing spiciness is the coffee note. I think I will try this on a cooler day to see if a lower temp is friendlier to the subtleties of this scent. Sillage is low-modest, while longevity was around 5 hours (good for DSH fragrances, in my experience).

Spicy chocolate with the least coffee. mild cream yes but more doses of spices. Later it turns to an oily texture and goes quite zero chocolate, coffee and zero cream! it turns into balsamic oily blend. kind of weird to be honest!
