Re-Assess

Received as a sample. Very pleasant and unique. Normally ylang-ylang is something I avoid even in small doses, but I don't mind it here. The marigold provides a great compliment/contrast. The sweet hay comes through in the drydown.

The opening here is dynamite - the feeling of wet, freshly crushed green stuff, like you are skipping through the grass after the rain while snapping marigold stems. The sun comes out, as the description promises, but it stays uber-wet never dusty or dry. The middle is too rosy for me personally though - what keep this as a like not a love. As the sun sets, you sit on the porch and sip some chamomile tea. From the website: Re-Assess is a sparkling fresh, green grass fragrance with a warm sunshine heart, and an earthy, grounding vetiver base. It’s what we all need to re-asses our world and ultimately hit reset.

The initial scent strongly reminds me of dandelions and green bananas– I'm guessing that's the ylang-ylang. As that first impression calms down, the hay and chamomile come through to add a bit of dusty sweetness. I don't personally like it (can't get over that sour banana-y ylang-ylang!), but I think someone else might love it. It's clearly a well-made perfume, just not for me.

Middle age male reviewer, with a preference for naturals: The opening had what I perceived as a scary-sour note...only lasted 20 seconds or so then the florals began to come through, I detected rose among them. It's 100% botanical, and gives that exact experience; feels very real and organic. Soon an earthy "dirt" comes into play, which I believe is part of the vetiver experience where it seems to stay. I guess the fragrance was designed based on the division in the country and covid-related complications of mid-2021...an absolutely miserable time in our country's history, coupled with the worst abuses Americans have ever seen from their government. Testing this is timely, since we had a State of the Union Address just last night. Based on the abhorrent level of incompetence we are dealing with, the destructive direction decimating the middle class and poor, and the complete out-of-touch-with-reality this administration exhibits, we still have quite a long way to go to get us back to where we need to be. This fragrance definitely reminds me of my childhood, as DSH intended. A time when we could have our policy differences, but everyone was still pro-America and pro-American-culture and tradition. As someone who never even really fit into that, boy do I ever miss it. This fragrance embraces that nostalgia extremely well.
