Tsukiyo-en

Tsukiyo-en came as a bonus free sample with my ordered samples of Le jardin Vert and Divine Gardens. I don’t think I would have ordered it myself and that would have been a tragedy. I just ordered the 10ml EDP and 1ml parfum. Tsukiyo-en EDP is subtle, exquisite, delicate, quite beautiful, and sits close to the skin. Its opening is wet/dewy minty green flowers, just unfurling or blossoming. We’re not talking bold freesia or tuberose or Jasmine. We’re talking tuliplije subtlety and a bit lilting, not quite citrus. Maybe an herb (I’m not good with the notes). It’s like a moonlit greenhouse. I just know I need more time with it. If I still like it after finishing the 10 ml, I'm ordering a bottle. Ms. Hurwitz excels at coloring a scene into her perfumes with subtle shading. This, Eau de Trianon, and Le Jardin Vert are like Plein Air paintings. I really like this perfume. I just started the fragrance hobby so my nose is limited, but I feel like I can smell whiffs of shiso which is the high point for me. It does smell Japanese and like the Asian aesthetic, very light, diffusive, ethereal. But the shiso and/or bamboo or whatever gives it a little twist that makes it special to me. It'd be an awesome spring/summer fragrance. The vibe (they smell different though) reminds me of Zoologist's Dragonfly 2020 except Dragonfly has this powdery laundry detergent drydown I dislike -- this one doesn't have that! Unfortunately, it lasts about 3 hours for me (but after about 1 hr, I have to press my nose to my skin to get a whiff of it), even though I liberally dabbed 4 times from my sample vial. It lasts an hour with 1-2 dabs. It's the EdT version so it's on my list to try the EdP or even the Parfum version one day. I bought the Tsukimi as well thinking that would be my favorite and was the most anticipated of the lot, but it turns out that I like this one the best and wish it would last longer.

I got this as a sample when I requested something that wasn't too sweet or smooth. It's really nice to find something with mint that doesn't smell like toothpaste, the mint is really well blended into everything else. Overall impression is very fresh and green and aromatic, but unique also. Reminds me somewhat of a garden. This would be a really nice change of pace from the same old fresh/green perfumes in the spring and summer.

Beautiful, natural scent that truly does feel like a garden on a cool summer night. As others have mentioned, the longevity isnt amazing, but this scent is certainly an experience and I am here for it! Feels high class and atmospheric, wish I could afford a giant jug of this stuff.

Ordered this one accidentally when I was trying to order Gekkou Hanami (yeah I know, they sound nothing alike, I don't know what happened). Anyway, it's a very nice subtle mint fragrance. I tend to group mints in my mind into the herbal or sweet categories and usually favor sweet mint fragrances; I don't dislike herbal ones but they never quite grab me enough to buy more than a sample. This one is... neither? I mean it's not sweet so I guess, by my binary system, it must be herbal, but I think the jasmine and neroli really soften it so that's it's not quite as green as a lot of mint fragrances I've tried. Like Gekkou Hanami, it's very calming, like something that I would wear to meditate if I were someone who meditates. So for an accidental blind buy, it's not too bad, even though it's not my usual thing, and I'll probably keep and use it. PS--I also got the lotion and I guess it's fine as lotion but the scent is gone within minutes, so while I can recommend the EDP, I wouldn't recommend investing in the lotion. Better to use unscented lotion and then spray the EDP over the top.
