TERRAM

Terram immediately conjures up the headspace of a coniferous forest and the undergrowth below, including the sweet sap of understory deciduous trees, the autumnal fading of vegetation, and the needles and cones that carpet the floor. I recognize a smell as being that from the Bois de Landes base from Robertet, one of my favorite bases in my own collection of perfumer's materials. It is a co-extraction of French pine resinoid and Virginia cedarwood oil. Its scent profile consists of fruity, berry, blackcurrant facets, balsam fir, suggestions of spruce tips, and—the scent of gold pine straw: the fallen pine needles. I am convinced the perfumer has used it, but if she didn't, whatever accord she created is just as utterly heavenly. This is anchored by a patchouli and benzoin-forward amber that further amplifies this effect, feeling damp, almost peaty, reminding me of the childhood exploration of decaying stumps and looking up to see the tall Eastern White Pines reaching up into the heavens like sacred spires. Terram has a meditative quality to it; it's melody is that of nature itself, in earnest, not a sketch, cartoon, or caricature; it truly feels like an ode to the woods from the treetops to the ground in which roots reach far and deep, with thousands of miles of mycelium interwoven in an impossible-to-fathom network of communication. It nods in reverence to the forest as our primeval home, while never feeling like treacly adulation; it feels steady, warm, and confident in its strides. It is the great blue heron of the marsh rather than the shrieking red-tailed hawk. It's a slow burner, and once all resins, coppice, and earth recede, what's left is the bare, dry heartwood of the surrounding trees, with whispers of the future saplings germinated in tomorrow's forest cathedral. It is at that time that I look forward to wearing Terram all over again.

Terram Very clean and precise with a touch of depth. The depth is somewhat blurred, but on the surface there is a fairly clean terrain that gives width and space. Very easy to wear, does not require a specific declaration. This in itself is what it is and that is all the beauty. This perfume is like when you try to inhale and you want to say something very wise. But you still decided to keep it to yourself. You let others speak for themselves. Very interesting woody fragrance, not obvious and definitely for someone that wants to smell distinct. Yes it is woody but in a different mellow creamy oily way - like a cedar flavored whipping cream. On clothes it's smell is softer, on skin it's spicier and more manly. It's like French Lover by Frederic Malle had a romance with benzoin :) Edit: the performance is mediocre but the smell is so unique that I think it justifies the purchase :)

CEDARWOOD! I get loads of it, but it's sort of a dusty cedarwood, think about the dust that resides when cedar is cut, that's what I get from it with a sweet undertone. I'm surprised it's not the top note and instead is Benzoin. Folks, this is fantastic, one of the best cedarwoods that I've tried and I tried many

A most beautiful patchouli, vetiver and amber combo that produces a deliciously chocolaty effect! It's so cool, because there actually no chocolate mentioned in the description, but I totally smell it. Beautifully blended a little sweet earthy chocolate.

A crisp green scent with lots of balsamic herbaceous notes as well as some animalic undertones (not a skunky ones, but rather warm and sensual). It also has some sour, salty and sweet aspects. True niche! Love it. Follow me on ig: scent.guide

The most renowned fragrance from the rather unknown D:SOL MMXVI house seems to be Terram, a fragrance that I feel impresses me less than it should, because on paper, it looks right up my alley, yet it still finds a way to just be 'okay'. It shoots off pretty medicinal, rapidly letting a little bit of "dirt" to push through, particularly the combo of galbanum and coriander, which make for a slightly green but very warm herbaceous accord with a piney, bitter undertone and also some earthiness reminiscent of damp soil. You also get the impression of a dirty citrus. Spice from the pink pepper is subdued, but not completely irrelevant, contributing more with some warmth and a bit of that tame berry/fruity edge. The top notes are soon engulfed by the main accord of the composition - resinous - letting some gently heady and tart magnolia rest on top, while the cistus, fir balsam, and benzoin work shoulder-to-shoulder to present a sweet, balsamic, resinous backbone with piney, herbaceous facets and ambery warmth, but the benzoin never veers into a vanillic/caramel direction, which is good, because it leaves enough room for a little bit of that rough, dirty undertone to keep existing. And that, along with the medicinal touches, is mostly carried by the patchouli, which also aids in bringing more muskiness and woodiness out of the cedarwood and musk components, although at times I get more of a chocolate-y presence from it. It doesn't strike me as a predominantly woody fragrance at all. It's mostly a resinous-sweet, gently herbal juice with a little bit of friendly earthy roughness in the back. Enjoyable, but personally, I would've preferred even less of that sticky, sweet resins and more earthiness and woodiness to ground the resinous accord, as the base seems underpowered throughout most of the wear. On that note, Terram managed somewhere around 10-11 hours, sometimes even pushing it to twelve. But when it comes to pushing off the skin, it was much more behaved. Pretty decent the first two hours, noticeable sillage but not room-filling by any means, and after that it would basically soften up quite rapidly, becoming largely inconspicuous for anyone around me. However, I feel like weather and external factors play a bigger role than usual when it comes to scent profiles like this, especially given that the longevity did vary on my skin, and so did projection. Not by much, but enough to make me think I need yet another test wear. For anyone with a little bit of exposure to resinous fragrances, I don't think this will strike in any way as 'challenging'. The sweetness aboard does balance out the rugged earthy undertone, which fortunately for many will make it more appealing, but unfortunately for me it makes it a little less impressive. Regardless, it's perfectly wearable most year round, less during the high heat, less as a daily, and more for days when you're just bored and want something else. But see, that's one of my main issues here. I feel like me, personally, would get bored of Terram quite easily. It's not a bad scent per se; it's well-composed, of good quality, but it's not perfect either. That earthy undertone, maybe that woodiness too feel like potential that wasn't quite exploited and instead left to be drizzled upon by sweet resins and bitter galbanum. In any way, Terram shapes up to be one of the better entries from the German house, but if this gets close to the best they can offer, then I'm left wanting for more. Imagine a summer well spent. Beach days, sunsets, laughter, and evenings with people you love. Summertime memories stay with you all year, like mental postcards you can flip through when life gets busy again and the air begins to cool. Terram steps in beautifully as late summer shifts to fall, making the seasonal change feel exciting instead of bittersweet. The scent makes you hold onto the warmth of summer while bringing in the cozy, deeper notes of fall. It wears warm, super aromatic, and a little smoky. The perfect scent to wear when slipping into your favorite leather jacket for the first time in months. The scent of the leather blending with Terram on your wrists is a combination to die for. If you’re into warm, woody scents with piney, resinous accents and absolutely no vanilla, Terram is the one. The slight sweetness comes from benzoin, a cooler, more mysterious cousin of vanilla, adding warmth and a hint of incense without tipping into gourmand territory. The resinous, leathery, ambery notes picked up could be the reason why to me Terram pairs so well with a beloved jacket. Definitely signature-worthy, with a gorgeous opening where I can actually pick up my favorite galbanum note. The moment I put it on, my wrist goes straight to my nose and stays there until my arm gets tired. The first few seconds of top notes are so fresh, it's as if there is mint or menthol in the mix. Very rapidly a scent of wet earth appears (although on the D:SOL MMXVI it says dry earth) and suddenly I am reminded of Rook's Undergrowth or Amouage Myths Woman. I'm standing in a wood after rain, a wood of conifer trees, and it must be after rain to have brought out all the scents of the wood. As the minutes pass I can smell timber, as if someone was here earlier and cut down one of the trees somewhere out of sight. There is a very faint trace of incense as well. As the minutes pass, Terram becomes smoother and warmer. Now I'm beginning to get the amazing scent of evergreens at night around the Mediterranean when the temperature is up in the 30s. Did I get a tiny waft of rubber? Maybe that came from my memory of a motorcycle ride at night in an open-face helmet with the wind hot in my face carrying the scents of the shrubs and trees on either side of the track. I'm going to stop now and maybe come back with an edit after a couple of hours. Edit: so now I'm 3 hours in and Terram has settled down as a rather lovely soft amber with a white floral note a long way back in the mix. If I inhale really hard, I can just about still smell the earth and trees but they have receded into the distance.

Gorgeous gorgeous benzoin! A real wow factor, probably because of the fir note - which is not your usual fir it actually feels like genuine pine sap from the bark. This is stunning, a real gem for any true resin fans like myself. I might just have to put on the want list. Touch herbal though which is holding me back for now - the galbanum and cedar are definitely adding an earthy herbal element to it. But I am absolutely in love with such high quality resins and labdanum - sweet enough to make it feel honeyed and gooey. Let's see how this dries down... Drydown: Cedar kind of ruins it for me. Too screetchy.

I am in awe of this perfume, yet another lovely sample I received with my main purchase. It is a forest after a soaking wet rain glistening in the sun, perhaps a little vapor is diffusing from all the aromatic plants. Beautiful I would not be opposed to my husband smelling like this all day every day for the rest of his life. Truly valuable find.
