Original Wood

Ladies and Gentlemen, He Wood is back, only this time it’s called Original Wood. And baby, it is back with a vengeance. When I hear someone describe a fragrance as “woody” I roll my eyes. What others call woody to me smells like wet particle board and syrup. Often, cedar woods are muffled with vanillas and a cocktail of other notes. Oud woods smell corny to me, like silk Hawaiian shirts on the way to watch Jimmy Buffet in Vegas, or the guy trying to buy your car or the scrap metal in the backyard. Original Wood is like literal wood in a bottle. It’s everything I remember with a wonderful addition. It is the smell of fresh wood being freshly cut on a cool morning when there is still dew in the grass. The concert of violet, cedar, and amber notes is prominent, just like He Wood. However, there’s an extra lift to this scent. I mean it’s not just the projection, but the freshness of the aquatic note that makes this scent hit in waves. The scent is almost dancing on me. There’s nothing complicated about this scent. The opening and drydown are the same, and I like that a lot. It doesn’t peel in layers. It’s not like iterative scents with fantastic openings that last as long as Fruit Stripe gum. Original Wood does not tease you. It says this is what you bought; this is what you get. I love what I bought all day long. As for the performance, it’s easily above average. I’m grateful DSquared2 went with an EDP concentration. It definitely projects more than He Wood, and it lasts an easy 9+ hours on me. While there are plenty of mass-appealing fragrances for anyone looking for an “office-safe” scent, this is a dumb reach that extends to the man who wears steel toes as well as the desk jockey who gets his hands dirty on the weekend. The scent itself has a connotation of ruggedness while maintaining cleanliness and freshness that appeals to the ladies. You could rock it with a suit, if you’re the type that wears one with a G-Shock.

Lovely, clean woody scent without any citruses, woooooo. Very ozonic off the top, has the Violet Leaf giving it a nice watery cucumber-y vibe and the cardamom adds a slight bitterness. It smells like a forest after some light rain and dries to a pleasant woody musk. I do love this but it's longevity unfortunately let's it down. :( Projection is decent enough and I feel like you wouldn't want to project much more anyways. Overall 10/10 scent from me but it's longevity...probably a 6/10. For an EDP too, this is really gutting. I bought it at £37.50 for 100ml down from £79, so if it remains I'll pick myself up a back up bottle but not if its £79 :O

I need to get to know this better and maybe it will open up in the bottle over time, but so far I'm getting plenty of fresh, watery, ozonic violet leaf and what I think is a white musk scent from this, but not a great deal of deep minty cedar or spiky green conifer sap. It is all there--I can make out the cedar in particular--but I do not find this to be a highly woody scent, at any rate not in the bitter, green sense. (I don't find it to be a violet bomb either though.) It's nice but surprisingly soft. It does not make me feel like a lumberjack.

Initial impression: Yes! I want to marry you!” I missed this kind of fresh fragrance. This opening is mouth watering violet. Similar somewhat to the great herrera 212 men. No fruits listed, hmm oK. I still think this smells like juicy fruits in summer. Mmm. Edit: Dry down takes a left turn as the fir or patchouli makes some sort of funky incense vibe come poking through. The once marvellous fruits are sort of disappated - already!? Jeez almost bought it straight off opening but now, not a big fan. The opening though is a 10/10.

Oh yes! One of the best woody themes out there along with Hinoki by CdG. Voilet & Cardamom are blended in the most perfect manner. To me the bouquet is identical to the initial HeWood version (which I wore back in 2008) but the performance & bottle design are better. It shows that the company is indeed listening to the market by bringing the ORIGINAL HeWood (which the name refers to) to a new, improved level. As I re-discovered this recently it has definitely become one of my favourite fragrances out there! Bravo!

Yes!, Yes!, Yes! Dsquared2 heard the fans, and they answered. Original wood is, if not, the original he wood packed in a nice frosted brown bottle. Having owned he wood multiple times i can guarantee this smells 95% like og he wood. The other 5% are small twists that are barely noticeable. For instance to me the scent feels more ozonic, and just a tat bit sweeter which i actually quite enjoy. Longevity around 7 to 8 hours with moderate projection. Best new release from Dsquared2 to this date.

Man this one smells like when you break a tree branch and it's still kinda green on the inside. It really smells like wood. It is very manly like a lumberjack but also has that freshness I like from Acqua di Gio. Definitely more of a daytime and summer fragrance. This is a great casual scent. Had to order it from DSquared2 and it took a week. I hope it gets to stores where they can sell it cheaper.

Finally, the woody fragrance of the whole Wood line by DSQUARED2 is appreciated. Intoxicating aquatic / woody blend with fresh, green hints of violet leaf and masterful cardamom from Guatemala. I would define it as a unisex fragrance with an extremely interesting olfactory evolution. When dry down it becomes amber, enveloping, mysterious. Undoubtedly the best of all the DSQUARED2 Wood line.

One of the purest and best green fragrances I’ve ever tried! 🌿💧 It smells like moisture, rain, and fresh green branches—everything damp and rainy in the best way possible ☔🌱. And it’s not just fresh; it also has a subtle sweetness 🍬. Definitely suits active environments like the gym and other lively places 🏋️♂️🏃♂️. At the same time, it comes across as masculine but mature—not youthful 👔.

The woody scent is quite noticeable but there are also aquatic notes in this perfume and the biggest problem with the aquatic notes is that they are very dominant, so it creates an effect as if it reduces the woody scent. However, this does not mean that there is no woody scent at all. It is a very woody scent, a different and interesting scent. I definitely recommend it.

Literally no one is talking about this. Rating this on its own, its fantastic fragrance and its very addicting. Projection is awesome. Scent is awesome. Maybe longevity could be slightly better but its good. And yes, this smells like the OG He Wood. I keep wanting to spray this on even though I'm wearing other fragrances. Highly recommend.

I like this one a lot, it's very fresh. Perfect for the gym since it's easy to wear and non offensive. I've even worn this in the winter and it performed great with a strong sillage. Like I said it's very fresh but also comes with a bit of sweetness, but it still feels strong and masculine at the same time.

2 sprays and I still smell it pretty good 14 hours later. Great scent for the price. Dsquared is a very underrated house IMO, this is what it says it is the OG He wood and I get a bit of Ocean wet wood, I have almost all D2 frags and not one of them disappoints. Love this house!

At first i was a bit put off by floral aroma, but my god does this creep up on you when it opens up (around 20ish minute). Fresh yet amazing sweet-sweet spot :) Quite masculine fragrance for those that can pull it of, and definitely for a bit more mature men.

This flanker is an identical twin with the He Wood for him, DSQUARED2. Different cover of the same story... The smell of the pine forest on a rainy day. I love it on my husband. I enjoy it wearing myself. Handsome. Beautiful. Intelligent. Unisex for sure.

It has great quality blending, is very light but it lingers with woods violet and watery notes. Im a fan of Guerlains Aqua Allegoria unisex line and OW easily could fit in that line with its fine blending and exquisite aroma.

I got this as a gift and I can't stop wearing it these last few days. I really really like it. My whole family likes it too. Maybe only the longevity is not the best, i can't really decide, but i love the smell.

Het is voor mij een heel relaxte geur. Zacht hout, waterig, schoon, lichtzoet, warm en comfortabel. Lekker voor als je thuis 's avonds wilt ontspannen of voor na een douche of bad en dan naar bed gaat.

When I was told He-Wood has discontinuoued, I was really disappointed because I worn the fragrance on the first date with my GF (Now is my wife). Finally He Wood is back now, can't happier anymore

Very light, but still has some power. Very pleasant smell. One of my favorite.

Underrated and one of my favorites

I like it! The opening is fresh smells like aquatic with a little hint of cucumber..i think the violet leaves has this kind of smell. The drydown is fantastic powdery and musky. Projection is OK for the first 1-2hours. Longevity also. On skin 7-8hrs, on clothes all day, even the next day is detectable. The bottle is heavy nice looking and also has a magnetic cap. For this price this is a STEAL!

I was looking for a fragrance for very hot summer days like 30°C+ That one works great, imo. Aquatic, ozonic, fresh with woody cucumber scents at the base. Quite innocent yet remarkable. Bought it after testing against Dior Cologne, D&G light blue line and Bvlgari Aqva. All of them more much stronger and dusturbing for this kind of weather.

I wanted to love this, as I'm a big fan of woody and green fragrances. Unfortunately, I found it to be a mostly floral fragrance,with a strong emphasis on the violet. The woods were present, but more as a supporting cast rather than the star of the show. In the end, it's a like, but not something I'll purchase a full bottle of.

Good. Close to original. Performance is solid (5-6 hrs) but siliage could be better. I agree on layerimg it with Encre Noir - do try whichever EN version you have. I tried with the original and extreme and both worked well. Also you might layer some zesty mint or citrus into the mix.

@JosephX nothing a-like. This is He Wood essencially. Smells woody-fresh-sweet. Narciso Rodriguez is more focused on violet leaf-patchouli-amber. And NR is better and more interesting to my nose. One of my favorites.

For the price, this one feels like a steal. The bottle alone is worth the money. Powerful atomizer, solid heavy bottle, and magnetic cap. A simple woody aquatic. This one is good for gym/daily wear.

Wet, freshly cut woods soaked with rainwater and a breeze of ozonic violet leaf. A forest walk with a cucumbery aspect crafted as perfume. Contemporary masterpiece.

close resemblance to he wood with a lot less longevity and sillage, at least for my skin, despite it being stronger than He wood was (edp vs edt).

It's ok, fresh woody masculine smell, very pleasant like the rest of this series, sadly the performance is really bad 6/10

This smells like an improved verison of parada luna rossa the original but with added burnt like wood.. i like it 8/10

I like it. Pleasant. Fresh, woody with violet. Easy to wear.

Much more ozonic and aquatic than woody. Touch of powderiness too, perhaps from the cardamom. Cedar and musk are what I get most from the base. It's a decent 6.5 or 7/10 scent that's easy to wear, but very synthetic, and that synthetic-ness is especially apparent in the aquatic + floral aspect of the scent. Kinda reminds me of the floral notes in a nice air freshener, but made slightly more masculine. The aquatic part is reminiscent of Nautica Voyage with a very subtle cucumber-like note. Good performance at least, easily smell it off my arm 7-8 hours laters. Overall it's nothing special. If you're just starting out building your collection this isn't a bad frag to have, but if you have loads of fragrances and particularly higher quality ones like upper end designer or niche, this won't blow your mind or anything and you can safely pass on it.

This is a mature type of fragrance, would probably not recommend this to anyone under 50 tbh. It doesn’t smell bad at all but I strongly prefer both the brown Wood and Green Wood. But the bottle is super nice with a magnetic cap and a beautiful frosted glass!

a good update of the first he wood. I do not detect aquatic and strongly woody notes. a light violet, fir and vetiver perfume, clean and suitable for every season and occasion. performance is not the best. 6.5 / 10

I don't detect any wood either. It is a fresh, masculine scent you can use during daytime. As with most perfumes, the sillage is less than moderate, so if you must overspray if you want other people to smell you.

The classic He Wood is back...or at least 99.9% of it in this new release from Dsquared. I've been using He Wood for 14years as my signature scent ever since it's release in 2007 when i discovered it by accident in a small perfumery in Italy and it was love at first sniff. Used also He Wood Cologne and He Wood Intense that ad a small twist to the original one but this Original Wood is just the OG re-released and in a nicer bottle and better concentration, feeling a bit more rounder overall. Scent-wise, i love it, performance-wise, i love it. Highly recommend it if you were a fan of He Wood and missed it after it's discontinuation.Also stop over-paying for the OG as now this is available.

For the love of God if any of you decide to wear this, no more than one spray. I assumed I needed a couple on the wrist and neck for a proper assessment of the scent but that was way way way too much. One spritz will tell you everything you need to know. The opening is so incredibly synthetically floral, almost working as an antithesis to the fresh charm of floral notes in a cologne. The dry down can be deceiving as it’s a bit more laid back so remember to take it easy with this stuff, or if you’re anything like me, avoid it completely.

Smells a bit synthetic (could be worse actually), and generic. Also seems quite weak; needed several sprays to really smell and judge this scent. Disclaimer: I personally tend to dislike violet (leaf) notes and this may have worsened my opinion of this fragrance.

I have had a sample of this in my box for years, and I haven't gotten around to trying it. It's been on my skin about 20 mins. "DSQUARED^2 Original Wood" smells like shampoo for 2 minutes, then it begins to devolve to a cheap, crummy base that you want to scrub off. To my nose, not even woody, moreso a highly synthetic leather construction. Nasty stuff. Time to wash it off...

Not as woody as advertised, but still good. I originally picked up the OG He Wood on a quest for woody centric fragrances when I was first getting into this hobby. I quickly discarded it when I found more of a violet forward, fresh and clean experience rather than a woody one. After falling in love with violet leaf notes after experiencing them in Dior Fahrenheit and Narciso Rodriguez For Him, I revisited He Wood and really came around to it. While now discontinued and not worth inflated prices, I discovered DSquared basically re-released it as Original Wood, and can be scooped up for under $40 USD. So, is it the same scent as the original release? More or less, it's a resounding yes, although I do perceive some differences which are subtle enough that it's hard to say if it's batch variations, oxidation, a minor formula change, or nothing at all. Original Wood is still fresh, clean, inoffensive, and violet heavy at the top. The violet does appear to be turned down, and overall the blend feels a little smoother and warmer, whereas the original felt slightly sharper and crunchy, with a bit punchier violet. Both have synthetic wood accords, but the new version feels a little less scratchy and seems to have a smoother texture overall. One criticism is that the violet of Original Wood just doesn't have the same impact and doesn't blend into the heart as beautifully as He Wood. The synthetic wood molecules in this one just aren't that impressive, despite the name, the true beauty in this lied in the violet note. Take that away or lessen it and the woody base just doesn't offer enough on it's own. I would be pretty surprised if there were any natural materials used in either. I don't get much in the way of silver fir, vetiver, or patchouli in here. Same as the original this is more a fresh, smooth, clean and mass appealing (in a good way) modern fragrance than a nuanced exploration of woody notes. It's more a violet musk with some other supporting notes, rather than a woody scent with supporting notes. The woody notes are there, quiet and dry, but are never the centerpiece to my nose. Getting past the misnomer in the name, it's overall a great bargain in it's style at discounters, and has broad appeal for those looking for an uncomplicated daily driver. The bottle is high quality, heavy, with nice simple text design and a very good magnetic cap which adds to the rugged, manly vibe they are trying to capture. There is a little dissonance however, in that the scent is actually not that rugged smelling, but rather clean, put together, and actually fairly gender neutral.

As im scrolling through previous reviews im finding myself confused at how people do not perceive this fragrance as being woody, because i think it very much is and not just due to the name and presentation. A very soft woody fragrance, slightly damp, not dry or sharp, with aquatic, ozonic and refreshing qualities. Its not a very niche or peculiar scent, not something that would blow your mind, nor is it a basic freshy. I think it works in every season, do not picture it being a cold fragrance despite the refreshing aspects so it would work during the colder months too. Someone below said the scent reminds him of breaking of a tree branch that is still green and damp inside and he's completly spot on! For videogame enthusiasts who played Skyrim, this fragrance reminds me of the Riverwood area. The lumbermill and especially the river running along the path leading to the small village, just after you leave the cave in the first part of the game. P.S: DSquared Green Wood smells better to my nose, its fresher, more nouanced. Original wood in comparition is damper, darker, heavier and less fitting for high heat temperatures.

I am glad I took some time before reviewing this one as at first I was off put by the opening not being as I expected. It however has an amazing drydown that smells woody without smelling like pencil shavings. The opening has also grown on me as well it lasts about 45 mins and is a beautiful blend of citrus and woods that smells classy yet casual enough to pull off for daily wear. The drydown however is where this shines you get around 2 to 3 hours of projection with a perfectly balanced wood and Vetiver. Then you get around 6hrs total as a skin scent. I am glad I gave this one a chance as it had to grow on me I've already worn it 3 times in the last week and I have a large collection. now it's a love. 9.5 out of 10 only due to mediocre performance.

Smelled it in store last weekend and can confirm it's very, very similar to the original He Wood. The only caveat I can think of is the performance. I've been wearing a sample for several days now, but have yet to break the 4 hour longevity barrier. After that, I can only smell it when I really dig my nose into my arm. Smell-wise, it's perfect woods, but try before you buy to check how the performance is for you and your skin.

I have to quit blind buying these dsquared2s. I liked rocky mountain wood back in the day but this one (original wood) and just the 'wood' one are too damn unisex for me. Comes off as very floral to me. This one does have some wood but it's light. There are moments where I smell Burberry Hero in it but that's probably just the light cedar accord. I'll give it a few more wears before I completely write it off.

To me this is a green woody perfume with a good aquatic part and that part holds on incredible good Its clear, clean, perfect for daily use, office and non offensive. Actually you cant go wrong with this one, its a safe buy, with a nice touch of ceder wood and amber, yes its nicely done all and the cardemom holds also very well. Longvity and sillage is ok and fine.
