Teika

Oh, how deeply retro! So profound that it might seem avant-garde! The last mention of the Teika perfume set in the Latvian press was in 1969. I believe it could have been sold in the early 70s. In the 80s only Teika sachet were sold. I think the sachets smelled like Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps. Or is it a false memory? I found Teika cologne in a briefcase bottle. I have a clearly gendered feminine aroma in the concentration of EDT. It is tightly sealed with the petrified substance of perfume, but the fragrant vapors are incredibly powerful. Even the paper it was wrapped in was driving you crazy a few meters away. The aroma is exquisitely nitro-musky with spicy and fruity nuances, all the luxury of jasmine, the power of chocolate peony, and the delicacy of powdery notes. This power has a bright beginning and dark depths. It contains marsh calamus. A fairytale ingredient, maybe the name of this perfume was chosen based on it. Teika means a legend. Calamus rhizomes are especially spicy. It are candied for confectionery, used in the food industry, but it also ward off fleas. People used calamus stems to whip each other at summer folk festivals. The peculiar spice of calamus enchants and intoxicates, but can quickly seem cloying, just like types of musk that are no longer used. Then comes the understanding why the Lilac of Riga Dzintars from 1952 stepped into 2021, but Teika Dzintars from 1955 was firmly forgotten already in the 70s.
