Moonshine A Gentleman's Cologne

Updating my review: I finally tried Moonshine again. What has changed is that I asked about an atomizer. One of the kind founders said he could send me one in my order. I have to say, it changed my perception. The sillage has gone UP and the longevity has gone noticeably up as well. Ask for the atomizer. This is a gin, leather, tobacco, and woodshop fragrance which deserves your attention.

This is terrific. I bought it without trying it for my husband's birthday and was a little nervous. It does not disappoint! I LOVE it and so did he...Success!

I have 280+ bottles of niche and high-end designer fragrances and this is by far, my most complimented fragrance!

Genuinely American. Authentically southern. This cowboy is wearing his goin' out boots tonight.

The first time I tried this I couldn't smell much. As it's not in a spray bottle I simply wasn't getting enough on myself to judge. So I revisited. Essentially, it's pine sawdust with, if I'm not mistaken, some Iso E Super (with its very mild cedar note that can also be interpreted as warm skin in flannel). As is noted elsewhere on the web, it mildly resembles Terre d'Hermes. It might be a cross of Tom Ford Sahara Noir (pine) and Terre d'Hermes (cedar). It doesn't project much... It's not bad - but it's not exceptional, either.

For those that like boozy scents, this can be an option. I certainly get the gin, woods, and some leather. That is all for me. Moderate longevity. Intimate scent. But those that want something a tad different, could be good to have. A tad overpriced for the outcome. Better with an atomizer. The bottle I picked up was without and I tried the dot and dab for a bit. Much friendlier with an atomizer.

Just received my sample, and the smells like recommendations begin with Terre de Hermes. I haven't tried proper Terre de Hermes, but have Rasasi Fattan which everyone says is a close clone. I dont see all that much similarity there. What I get is very close to Play by Givenchy. For anyone who is looking for that discontinued scent, give this one a try. Very good in my opinion.

It smells like a woodshop. Might as well break out the table saw.

Very intriguing concept. I like the look, feel, and packaging of the bottle. The splash top is love/hate because it is too big of an opening to evenly dispense the liquid but not really big enough to cover with your thumb. I would either add a sprayer or a restrictor imho. What does it smell like? Well for being called "Moonshine" this cologne does not necessarily smell like booze. Rather it is a woody, peppery, earthy smell reminiscent of Terre d'Hermes. I splashed too much in my hands and rubbed it into my neck, cheeks, and hair. It's been a couple of hours and the scent is faint already. With any splash cologne they will most likely stick close to your skin. For what you get this is too expensive. I wouldn't pay more than $30-45 for this. And even then I would use this as an aftershave with Terre d'Hermes as a cologne to complement each other. I do get the wood chips vibe and a forest feel. Very manly and actually very pleasant to my nose, just nothing revolutionary. Straight forward woodsy cedar scent with pepper and earthy patchouli in the base.

Just got a bottle of this (and Sportsman from the same house) at a boutique in Telluride Co. I was sniffing so many scents that I had a hard time putting my finger on what it reminded me of. But I got a cedar note for sure, which is my favorite, so I bought it. At my hotel I gave it a full wearing and realized what it was. It’s definitely not TdH. I mean, “peppery woods” I get it, but nope. It’s CDG Hinoki, through and through. If you like CdG’s Scent One Hinoki, which I personally do, you’ll like this. Not saying it’s a clone, but it’ll do til a better word shows up.

The finest smelling saw dust out there! This was one of my first "nice" fragrances when I started to really, really getting into them. I thought I was big stuff with my $98 bottle of this, and man, did the compliments roll in! It goes to show you don't have to have the $240 small bottle of Tom Ford to smell great, and you don't have to smell like a Hollister store. Great scent. Likable and very manly. Haven't worn it in a long time, but still a classic. It also layers quite well with a fresh scent for extra complexity/depth.

Finally got to smell this today, to me this smells identical to Gucci Pour Homme, its unfortunate that this is pretty pricey and has longevity and projection issues.

got like 12 compliments the first time I wore this. Big risk as I bought without ever smelling. It will be my go to for years to come!

opening is great. drydown is identical to terre d'hermes. a little disappointed that they smell so similar. 3/10
