Verdant

Verdant is a "Another Green World," pulling out the sappy, milky, phloem-rich stems and the raw vegetation, soaking them in dew and hazy humidity. Fig leaves glazed with mastic resin combine with fresh cut aloe, all covered with moisture, dappled with drops. A clean and punctuated ozone forms the core in Verdant, it is the azure to counterpoint all that is green. It gives this effect of lifting, rising, upwards, like a magic beanstalk into the sky. As it progresses, I pick up what I can only describe as a futuristic sandalwood coupled with a wet aggregate, unlike anything else I've smelled, not only in green fragrances, but in any fragrances really. It is also worth pointing out the perfumer Pia Long managed to avoid including galbanum here, and while I adore my galbanum, I am impressed that she did not rely on it as the pivot for Verdant and still managed to make it all magical.

I got the candle of this originally and really enjoyed it, and I'm really not a candle person. Just thought I'd mention the fact I'm very vaguely acquainted with the perfumer and team behind this brand (I occasionally laugh at meme's with them on social media, if that counts?) , because some people seem to have thought I'm on their payroll (hahahaha laughable for everyone concerned I'm sure) because I said..."the candles are fantastic and I'm sure the fragrances will be, so go buy them!" or words to that effect, simply because I wanted to support a small UK indy brand doing something worthy of merit. I still think this. This is the first actual perfume I've worn and I feel vindicated because fuck you arsehole troll, Verdant smells exactly like the candle and is a superb fragrance! The approach to greenery is multipronged there's a crunch, a light airiness, a resinous aspect, a wetness, a darker green element of succulents or ivy, coupled with wearable fragrance sweetness and gubbins required to ground the fragrance in woodiness. I love it. The only slight downside is there's something of a crudeness about it, it feels artisan, oh yeah because it is! I think when you've played with perfumery and can smell some of the building blocks a little too clearly in isolation it can take the shine off the magic a little. So not really a bad thing but worth noting. Still brilliant though and waaaay more refined than tons of indy slop that get's glazed to high heaven. This deserves more appreciation. I felt uplifted and thoroughly sparky and engaged wearing this.

Wow honestly this was quite shocking at first,because in the first second of me spraying this perfume on my wrist my nose mainly picked up on a very bitter but also very true green stem essence. After a few minutes it settles into a softer damp vegetation like scent that feels smooth and refreshing.

It's bright, green, and fresh. The opening has a citrus vibe that reads as sharp and freshly zested grapefruit or lemon peel to my nose, but that is due to the neroli and timur combo. I do like it but this citrus top is not very unique and if you smell a lot of fragrances then you know it can be found almost anywhere. What makes this one stand out for me is the bitter chlorophyl of the cactus blending with the citrus to create what we call "Green" in perfumery, but this is more of a bright green as opposed to a dark forest green. Compared to the very prominent and beautifully done tomato leaf in Corsica Furiosa by Parfum d'Empire, it's blended in well here and rendered indistinguishable as a note. The concrete looked interesting but I cannot detect it. This perfume is top note heavy and what you will get is mainly citrus and cactus taking the lead over other undefinable notes. Not saying that if you sniff up close you won't be able to smell complexity, but rather that people will probably just perceive what you're wearing as a green citrus. If that's what you're going for then give this a shot. Feels like a daytime scent to be worn in spring/summer. Unisex but leans masculine on my skin. Moderate projection with 4 to 6 hours of wearability before fading to a skin scent.

Gorgeous blast of slightly bitter green but with a well balanced sweetness. Vetiver, galbanum, violet leaves, rose and tons of juicy citrus fruits. A modern interpretation of the (very) aromatic fougere. Closest I can resemble it to is Green Irish Tweed but a lot brighter, still highly intense because of the radiant purple hues of the violet leaf. My second favorite in this gorgeous line behind Gilded.
