Club Lonely

After spraying two tea musk perfumes, he pointed to this bottle and said, "This is a strange perfume. Sweet and woody." I was at the Isetan department store in Shinjuku searching for cheap perfumes by the dollar on the yen and was attracted to the stamp-like bottles by Édit(h) perfumes, a brand unknown to me. It turns out Édit(h) is a Japanese brand, and, according to the man introducing me to the fragrances, the founder and creative director of the line (who assured me that he only happened to be working his shift at that hour), the brand cannot advertise that they are the only Japanese niche perfume brand at Isetan because, seemingly, it would offer them an advantage over other brands at the department store. This fragrance is an extrait de parfum -- I was worried it'd be cloying, but the dry ink and bitter patchouli balance the sweet maple on the top note. Unlike the other more floral offerings from the brand, this fragrance is distinctly a warm night time scent. The fragrance is named after the 1992 house song and is an ode to the founder's previous profession as a club DJ. It's "sweet and sexy", as the founder said. I am "sweet and sexy", I replied. (This is a joke at which he laughed.) It has a good longevity and surprisingly intimate projection. It reminds me of m/mink by Byredo, although there is no musk note, with a smoky sweet caramel note on top. Hop on a plane to Tokyo and take a trip to Shinjuku. This is a great, great brand and, if you can, be sure to also try Green Velvet, a unique soft green fragrance.

Unfortunately this house seems to use the same vegetal note in the opening that reminds me a lot of warm garlic. Is it the cassia leaf? I get this same note in their Rose Mojito and Yuzuki as well. The garlicky note subsides after about 15mins and I start to pick up a synthetic cough syrupy berry/passionfruit note, with a saltiness to it. So it’s a warm, salty vegetal scent with a dash of berries on my skin. Weird but not really wonderful.
