Kagamigoshi

Kagamigoshi is is a pleasant surprise for me! It is sweeter than I typically prefer, the iris is milky and orris-forward and the tonka/vanilla are pronounced. Yet, it works beautifully because there is structural integrity holding it all together well. The oilbanum gives it an ecclesiastical spine, the juniper keeps it cool and aromatic, and the iris grounds everything in an earthiness. It calls to mind a bit of Prada L'homme and Amouage Reflection Man with a bit of Chanel Allure Homme Eau Extreme simultaneously- but is interesting in its own right. This fragrance is earthier and more grounded than those to me. It's edible, powdery, aromatic, and incredibly green. I absolutely love Kagamigoshi. Very unique. This is not a smell, this is a SPELL. Up close, it’s a powdery, sugar coated citrus (lemon/orange) hard candy. In the air, it has a pronounced bitter green note - stem like - which swirls around me. Overall impression is a combo of semi-sweet powdered sugar (incense) citrus & galbanum. It’s intriguing and hypnotizing. Mentally, this scent totally blisses me out. My pupils dilate and I immediately start to drift away. The longer it sits on my skin, the more meditative and transportive it becomes. The incense citrus takes me away and that beautiful green note snaps me back to present. I cannot wear this to work because it makes me space out. It also has a “pulsating” projection which is new for me. It’s almost like it breathes in and out on its own. $200 for a 50ml experience is 100% worth it. The longer I wear it, the more the outside becomes inside, and the deeper into the unknown I go. I feel the vibrant greenness is masculine leaning, but I would love to smell this on a strong-spirited, playful, sexually confident (she/her) woman. It’s mesmerizing to the point I may unknowingly follow her home and willingly yield to all commands. Very captivating.

Love the sweet and sunshiney mandarine opening that slowly transitions to zen, mineralic olibanum. But I don’t love the cheap green “iris” accord that comes after, wrapped softly in synthetic blonde woods (“white cedar extract”). It’s at this point it takes a turn from a uniquely Japanese freshie to stale cashmeran and grey amber that smells like a million BASIC perfumes out there. 2 out of 5. EDIT: Oops... and then it dries down with a warm woody vanilla. Much better. 3 out of 5

Oh wow, I’m the first one to review this! Currently in Japan, took this sample with me to test here, since Edith(h) is a Japanese brand. The name ‘Kagamigoshi’ means ‘through the mirror’, hinting to illusion and maybe some mystery or confusion. Where to me the opening is beautiful (indeed, mysterious, warm & cold at the same time), the development after 5-10 minutes is less so: it lacks depth and mysterie to me. Even begins to smell a bit off, a bit chemical for the lack of a better word. I would rate this 3/5. Best worn in spring or summer, it lasts for 3-4 hours and has moderate projection.

very nice citrusy iris. green and lactonic midrange. beautifully balanced and three dimensional. it is unquestionably refined and japanese. i only wish it hung around for longer.
