Souchong Journey

A pretty, pleasant perfume that smells like crisp lemon tea; more tea than lemon, with some hints of peppery green. It took me a trip across Tokyo through Shibuya scramble to find the last bottle in-stock in the city, to say something of its popularity. Doesn't last too long on the skin, so you can spend the day in it then be ready for something new for a dinner date. The label is hand-stamped on Japanese paper ^_^

there are certain fragrances best for an interior touch. i love to adorn my eyewear cases with this scent, almost creating a scent structure around my face in those moments when i wear my glasses. delicate & fresh, though has a strong hold.

Expectation based on description, concept, and notes: A heavy, deep and smoky black tea with a citrus tinge. Reality: It is a middle-weight tea scent (not green), but citruses dominate the composition. Not getting Lapsang Souchong at all. Disclaimer: Neither an avid fan or hater of tea frags. The composition is nice, better quality and projection than the average designer tea scents. It's more on the fresh tea side than expected, however less green than iconic EA Green tea. As for tea impressions, closer to Earl Grey sniffed from the mug, but not as smokey. I think it is only for hard-core tea enthusiasts (at best), who may buy this for better quality, longevity and projection over others.

The opening is pleasant and pretty predictable. I do get the black tea lurking under the citruses, it reminds me of a freshly made lemon tea. Just as I thought that was the end of it, I start to pick up more details in the mid – cardamom and a tinge of cumin (maybe its the olibanum causing this?) mixed with an airy smokey incense. The spicy smokiness swirling around with the citrus turns this into an interesting scent now. To me, this is a daily scent hiding a tiny secret – friendly citrus to please the people around you, smokey spiciness underneath that only you know about. I think this scent will surprise the newbies, the drydown might be quite unexpected for their noses.

Far too similar to Reminisce from the same brand. Smells like they used the exact same citrus and olibanum. This one evolves to an airy tea scent. Like a Japanese twist on cologne, predictable but pleasant. 3 out of 5.
