Genre

Genre really hits you with an intense incense vibe with some leather thrown in - and that's all this fragrance does on me. But I love it. So straightforward, powerful and strong. I feel like a king or priest while wearing this. Projection and longevity are amazing! Be careful as this thing will fill a room and irritate the untrained nose. Rating: 8.5/10 - Greatness!

I seem to detect more incense (olibanum) than leather or suede. Genre has kind of a toned-down, refined Amouage feeling to it; along the lines of Memoir or Interlude Man. This leans more masculine smelling to me - no floral or fruity notes, and definately dry, not sweet. It is a nice fragrance, but I prefer something with a little more "personality"

I blind bought this based on notes. I had no idea that it was one of the finalist for Indie Perfume of the Year. So what is Genre? It is an "almost hard to believe" sweetened musky thin veiled frankincence composition. Baked with the resin are delicate shavings of suede and leather giving Genre an aromatic feel. No doubt, leather is the basenote but don't expect the hardcore full grain natural stuff. So when Fragrantica mentions animalic as an accord, they're strictly referring to the musk. Fans of Cuir Ottoman outta check this out. When it comes to the word love, I don't fall to often. This is a love.

It's hard to take suede seriously, with its handsome big brother leather usually by its side. Still, this perfume has expand our view on suede. Olibanum wakes you up with its usual wet-paint like high pitched tone, then somehow magically disappeared into an interesting spiciness, which reminds me of roasted ginger powder, but more. Then a "raw" nutty tone steps on stage, soon transformed to a familiar suede-nutty note, with salty-black-peppery spicy tinge. Before you know, salty-spicy and nutty tone hijacked the whole scent, they’re what you got for the rest of the journey.

I would call this "office safe leather". This is the least in-your-face leathers that I have tested. But it doesnt mean that it is boring or goes unnoticeable. I have gotten a lot of compliments, but only from those, who appreciate niche frags. Both me and my husband wear this as one of our main everyday frags and I am 100% repurchasing this one. I have observed that it is most expensive in its main website (ironic) and you can get it under 200eur if you visit some smaller frag butiques. Worth the hunt.
