Spanish Veil

Tested from a sample, on clean skin in the morning: On first spray I smell light smoke. No campfire here, it's more like walking into a room where someone has blown out an unscented candle. Within 20 minutes a gentle sweetness appears and melds with the smoke. Not floral or "sugary" but soft and warm, a tiny bit spicy. I suppose this is the Tonka bean, and it's lovely. At this stage, the scent seems to sit a few inches above my skin, a light cloud. Two hours in, the woody notes appear, to join the smoke and sweetness. Again, this is a soft and gentle note that mingles with the others, in equal measures. This fragrance doesn't enter a room in advance, but it isn't faint either. I think the wearer will enjoy it as a very personal scent, but will also find others leaning in or standing a little closer to experience it as well. This exquisite fragrance doesn’t strike me as “perfume” at all. It’s the way I want to smell all the time.

Opens with some smoke. Not a campfire. Think the aroma of a recently snuffed-out, really expensive candle. Virden, the reviewer below, nailed it. Although there are only three notes officially listed, that short list is certainly incomplete; there’s also something like a citrus-tinged incense accompanying the smoke before it moves into its next phase where I sense a touch of iris and perhaps jasmine, and then in the final act, a dry, non-sweet vanilla-ish tonka, and sandalwood. I don’t know that I’ve smelled anything quite like it and that will surely keep me coming back for more. Hmmmm, as I’m sitting here, the smoke from the top seems to weave in and out and I’d love to know how perfumer Carlos Benaïm accomplished this trick. Key words: Mysterious. Smoky. Alluring. Sensual.

I've loved this for years. I only have a decant so I try to use it sparingly. I see this is still available on his website, I checked today. This is so warm and comforting. I get mostly Tonka Bean and Sandalwood and have a hard time smelling Guaiac Wood at all throughout the entire wear. (thankfully as we are mortal enemies) If you love tonka bean you've got to try this one! Leaves a very beautiful scent trail also. Love love love.

I have 2 - 3 grades of pure sandalwood oil. The highest and the best quality is Indian Mysore sandalwood oil (have only 5 ml., 50 years old ...my one of the most prized possession ) distilled and marketed by Indian government. Unfortunately it is neither produced nor marketed now, don't know why. It is little lactonic and little tart. But at the same time creamy, woodsy, bright and sweet. It is just spiritual. Spanish veil is missing those lactonic touches and tartness, rest it is one of the Best sandalwood based perfume and can also be labelled as sandalwood Soliflore. . Bright, sweet, woodsy, crisp, and wavey.it is as good as pure sandalwood oil (western /Australian style sandalwood). I don't know how they managed to achieve this with aroma chemicals. THIS IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF PERFUMERY.. There are no lose ends in Spanish veil. Can be a good layering option as well Projection is good - to - average. Great longetivity.

Am I the only one who can hear a weird plastic note from the skin? I work in a perfume shop and this fragrance has no haters along the clients, it's really delicate, warm and elegant. But this note is making me a little bit confused.
