EIGHT & BOB

I always love a perfume with a story, and this is certainly true of Eight & Bob. Some cynics have suggested that it is merely a romantic fabrication, featuring a young Parisian perfume enthusiast who befriended JFK, who, with his famed charm and charisma, managed to coax a sample from the Frenchman who, until then, guarded his formula closely. JFK later requested eight more samples for friends, and one for his brother, Bob - thus came the name Eight & Bob. This original scent was only released commercially in 2012, and is seemingly the same formula as the pre-WWII version that so charmed JFK. I bought the discovery set, and naturally, 8&B is my first one to try. An elegant, slightly unusual, aromatic masculine cologne, it is classic yet distinctive, and smells expensive, made from high-quality ingredients. 8&B has a spicy-citrus opening, more aromatic and warm than fresh - well-rounded and natural-smelling. Cardamom is used to perfection here, adding green, peppery spice without being dinner-y or discordant. Ginger follows, warm and powdery rather than freshly-grated. It becomes nutty and woody, slightly gourmand in a non-sweet manner like Cloon Keen Castaña - warm, well-rounded and very autumnal. As it develops, the clean floral heart comes to the fore. I get a nice neroli note, adding a citrus-tinged floral quality to the heart. Clean, natural-smelling jasmine rounds it out, complemented by the soft woody notes. The nuttiness and soft spices persist - it is well-blended throughout. The drydown is dominated by a soft, musky amber accord with a dash of earthy patchouli complementing it nicely. The woody notes persist. Dry vanilla gives the amber a balsamic quality, keeping everything smooth and well-rounded as it fades to a musky, slightly sweet skin scent with soft spices remaining. Sillage is moderate and the longevity is surprisingly long-lasting. A top-notch transeasonal masculine (that is soft enough to be unisex depending on taste), 8&B is timeless and classic yet slightly unusual. One of my favourite masculines - I'm glad that it is as good as its romantic origin story. 4.5/5.

This fragrance reminds me gentlemen from another era, it’s elegant, sophisticated, a bit retro but not in a bad way. This fragrance reminds me of an era I never lived in, the roaring 20‘s and 30‘s of the last century, when life was much better. Every time I wear 8&Bob I imagine Albert Fouquet and a young JFK in the south of France enjoying life surrounded by beautiful, elegant and sophisticated women. When tattoos and piercings were only for very few people, unlike today, unfortunately. This is a fragrance for an over 30, well put together man. It’s ok to be worn in the daytime, in spring, in summer (but not in the super high heat) and in the first weeks of fall when the temperature is still pleasant. Ideal for office wear and for leisure for a gentleman who is sophisticated but without being pretentious. It’s a slightly informal fragrance, but yet elegant and masculine, without being a macho man type of fragrance. Very good longevity and also good (but not super loud) projection. Not a fragrance for those who like modern frags, metrosexual and super sweet. Albert Fouquet did a great composition back then and I’m not surprised the American jet set in the 30’s felt in love for his fragrance. 8&Bob it’s citrusy fresh, zesty due to the ginger, floral, slightly sweet and woodsy. It smells classy, elegant, clean, masculine but not over masculine. It can be worn while dressed up but also if you wear more casual clothing (but not worn out jeans and T-shirt please). If this fragrance was a movie, it would be Midnight in Paris by Woody Allen. I imagine this would be the fragrance worn by Owen Wilson, jumping from the 20’s and the 2000’s. This fragrance it’s a bit snobbish, yes, but I’m in love with it, and I hope Albert Fouquet from wherever he is now, looking down here to me, wearing and enjoying his creation, doesn’t get too upset because an average guy is wearing a creation which was made for people like JFK and Hollywood stars of the roaring 30’s.

I first encountered this beauty in a favourite concept store in central Madrid not that long after it was released. I loved it immediately even though it somehow remains in my canon of "trustworthies" rather than on the far shorter list of lovers who could drive you to madness with desire. At the time - as now- I took the story with a pinch of salt. And please don't be offended if you can send me links to credible historic documentation. Somehow I think I will be even more impressed if it was all an invention of pure fiction as I still suspect it might be. That side bar addressed, the juice itself is impressive and seductive. Okay, so maybe I am an easy target: it has numerous woody notes to which I am clearly susceptible; it has a creamy, complex base; and it has a lovely combination of spice-citrus notes floating above to put that sparkle in your smile. It's its classicism that impresses me rather than the much more arriviste tales of a young JFK lounging around on the French Riviera in the 1930s. Yes, I was that little boy who loved nothing better than to be taken to an old-school barbershop with wood-panelled by my grandfather. And this veritably unravels those vaguely remembered scents. In my mind I experience it as very male because it connects to so many of those personal memories of traditional male grooming. But in pure fragrance terms such delineation is silly in today's world. It is a great fragrance for all who love it.

I went on a 9 hour road trip with my fiance recently. It was the peak of winter in NYC and I sprayed in the morning right before the trip. We'd arrived to our destination 9 hours later, got ourselves situated, socialized, etc. Right before bed that evening, she hugs me and says "you smell good". I didn't reapply nor did I spray anything else. Eight & Bob travelled with me in the winter and managed to stick around for +/- 12 hours. I think that's pretty amazing for what's categorized as a "Spring scent". This may very well be an all-year/signature scent afterall! As for the comparisons to Fahrenheit 32: There are PLENTY of fragrances that smell alike (Ambre Narguile/Dolcelisir; Aventus/Fresco; Green Irish Tweed/Cool Water/Floris JF; 1 Million/EVERYTHING; etc.), however every fragrance is its own creation with its own aura. I cannot confirm nor deny the claim of this being similar to F32, but I CAN form an individual opinion to my fragrances rather than simply tossing it under the very dismissive "smells like" category. Whether the story is true or not is really irrelevant, to be honest. If you like the fragrance, then ENJOY THE FRAGRANCE!

The whole JFK backstory doesn’t interest me at all. In fact, I would probably use that as an excuse for not even trying Eight and Bob. But try it I did, and was instantly rewarded. There is just this swoon-worthy combination of vanilla, woods, and citruses, underpinned by a prominent dose of ambergris, that instantly uplifts my spirits, no matter where I am or what I’m doing. I’ve found this to be a versatile fragrance that works well in all seasons, perhaps with the exception of a blistering summer heat. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. 8 & B is also a unique fragrance, at least to my nose. The closest comparison I have found was Cartier Roadster, but haven’t done a side by side to confirm that hunch. However, at ~$175 USD for 100 ml, this is definitely not a blind buy. But I do believe this is a fragrance every gentleman 35+ would do well to sample at least once, and see if it strikes you as much as it did me.

Starts off as a spicy citrus, smells like a richer, more oriental spin on traditional masculine summer scent. Dry down becomes a spicy wood and fades into a somewhat animalic warm sandalwood. This is one of the few wearable masculine scents I have smelled that truly evolves over time and does so with grace. It remains pleasant and wearable the whole way through, never noxious or overbearing, even with the initial spray. As someone who tends to dislike the aquatics, greens, and aromatics that make up most standard scents catered to male audiences, this one surprised me. Its the kind of scent that people recognize as a familiar masculine scent, but simultaneously find themselves captivated by the subtle oriental and spicy notes that make it so unique. This scent is definitely a good introduction into the realm of niche masculine warm weather scents.

This is a true gentleman's fragrance, although it doesn't descend into pretentiousness. True class and moderate luxury with a price tag to match. As niche goes, $175 per bottle isn't terrible. I get some initial hints of citrus and spice with bergamot, lemon, cardamom and ginger. It soon settles into the luxurious heart of labdanum, woods and hazelnut. The drydown remains rich and luxurious with strong, smooth, slightly salty ambergris and sandalwood, with nuances of vanilla and patchouli. The whole experience with this fragrance is beautiful and rich from top to base and every stage in between. Remains slightly sweet throughout, but never cloying. Artfully blended and truly classy. Performs well for your money. This is a masterpiece of modern perfumery and should be in every gentleman's collection, even if only a decant. 10/10

OUFFF! where do I start. Firstly, the people saying this is "old school" frag you couldn't be more WRONG!!! When I was about 9-10 years old back in 2008 or 09 my dad's signature scent was Fahrenheit 32. My mom got it for him as one of the gift for his bday. He fell in love with it and wore it all the time. It was such a lovely vanilla, orange blossom, sweet floral bomb.Only recently when I started getting into perfume I found out it was discounted which is very sad as its one of the greatest scents in my opionion. I bought this hoping I can get the closest to Fahrenheit 32. It has the DNA of Fahrenheit but it's not it! It's similar in the qualities of its airiness. All in all it's a gorgeous scent that I will be wearing alot as a 23 year old male. This aint old school at all!!!!

I don't know where people are smelling soap in this. Has it been reformulated recently? I bought this about 4 years ago and it is straight up warm and creamy. Very similar to Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan. I only wear this once in a while, but it's always a treat when I do. Nothing sharp or aldehydic about it. I think you could wear this year round, but it is probably best for spring and fall seasons. I very rarely receive compliments on fragrances but I've received some wearing this. Slightly woody, ambery, a little sweet and more of a rich and deep fragrance that lasts for a long time. I can still smell it on my shirt the next day. Smells great on men but this could also go unisex no problem.

Recently purchased a FB after a sample from Mens Biz. I could start with bullshit backstory beggars belief, and I like a story as much as the next man. All fairy tales aside (even fairy tales have elements of truth, right?!) I really dig this juice. It's zesty but creamy, alluring but not hyper sexual, office safe yet different enough to have heads turn in the wake of your Sillage. It IS classy. I CAN imagine a figure such as JFK (or insert suave public figure here) wearing it. Turns out JFK and Bob weren't the last ones to enjoy it, signature worthy and familiar, definitely straight into my experience limited top 10 for now. Maybe forever?

I love this cologne. (I'm trying it for the second time from Birch Box.) One of my favorite fragrances is Love's True Bluish Light which is maybe a little too feminine for me. This reminds me a little of that with all the vanilla, but it's less creamy/powdery and less sweet, so I think this is a little more masculine. This is also a lot lighter sillage/lot shorter longevity than Love's True Bluish Light, but both are really vanilla heavy to the point of making you a little hungry. But Eight and Bob is a little more woody than a gourmand. I'm tempted to buy a bottle, but it's a bit pricey. I definitely recommend trying it.

No way to know whether the genesis story of this fragrance is true, though you would think the Kennedy estate might object to JFK's name being used for promo purposes if it were untrue. But enough on that - it's a fragrance after all. This is actually a really nice, balanced fresh fragrance. It's not overly aquatic or overly vanillic. It's not as distinctive as many niche offerings, but it does strike me as a great signature scent. All things equal, a great choice for spring. Bonus - great longevity. It doesn't have massive projection, but perhaps the longest lasting EDT I've tested in a long time - 12+ hours.

I love this fragrance! Whenever I wear it, it feels like I'm wearing something very luxurious. To my nose, there are some similarities between this and Acqua Di Parma's Mandorlo Di Sicilia, but I prefer this vanilla and hazelnut blend much more. The sandalwood, cedar and ambergris also add a nice complexity to the scent. This easily lasts 8-10 hrs on my skin, with strong projection for the first 2 hours. Although this is considered a male fragrance, I believe a woman can totally enjoy it just as much. I highly recommend this perfect spring & summer complement monster!

This may be my new signature scent. On first spray this perfume leans masculine HOWEVER within 30 minutes this becomes the most beautiful, delicate, feminine scent imaginable. I am reminded of the smell of Palo santo wood (not burned and smoky or incense), hazelnut, amergris, and sandalwood. There is something else brighter and more citrusy, reminiscent of a lemon drop candy. My skin has a tendency to turn everything sweet and this is no exception. Between this, Dalegerard Mannered, and Le Labo Santal 33...I am in olfactory heaven.

I see why JFK wore this. Smells like something a dignatary would wear. The opening smelled like pickeles to me, but after a minute or two I'm met with a crisp citrus and the drydown is this woody, arid, mild vanilla, earthy tones. I like it for sure. Not full bottle worthy, but definitely a 1ml. Update EDIT after 9 hours: I cannot stop smelling my arm OMG! It just keeps changing and projecting after hours and hours. Received 1 compliment from a delivery girl and caught a whiff when the wind blew. This is FULL Bottle worthy.

Eight and Bob is something that doesn't particularly stand out - it's clean and creamy sandalwood - but at the same time, it's absolutely addicting. The first spray is clean and lightly citrus, like dish soap or generic "laundry" air freshener. It gets more complex as it develops into a wet, creamy wood scent, though it keeps the same fresh airiness of the opening. I don't buy the JFK story, but Eight and Bob is great even without a history to it. It's light and refreshing and, despite the marketing, definitely unisex.

A dry woody opening with a veneer of lemon and a sprinkle of aromatic spices. It quickly settles into a powdery, slightly soapy white-purple floral experience. Something in the realm of iris, violet, jasmine, maybe lavender atop those dry woods and citric spices. Fresh, clean, airy. Strong projection for 2-3hr, longevity 6-8hr. Has a sort of irisy heart that I particularly enjoy. Kinda reminds me of Reflection Man, though that has more pink pepper off the top and lacks the same purple floral or soapy nuances.

My first fragrance purchase, and I've not smelled much that gets close to its creamy dry-down since. Zoologist's Squid gets close, but is otherwise quite different. I started wearing it in the heat and humidity of New Orleans, since I'd picked it up at Madame Aucoin's in the French Quarter, but I agree with others who say it's ideal for a cool summer night out, or the spring or fall. I don't wear this because of JFK, of course, but in *spite* of that rabid imperialist running dog and philanderer.

Hazelnut is for me the most prominent note. And a sweet woody thing. I like it a lot. Classic. Sophisticated. I only recently got the EdP, after having used the deodorant spray for a while. I suppose I was a bit disappointed that I could detect no more notes in the EdP. Smells pretty much the same. Not that I needed any more notes. This is also much more long lasting. I'm sure the bottle will last a lot longer than an aerosol as well, so it might end up actually being cheaper.

A cleaner Dior Fahrenheit. I'm almost certain this has an unlisted violet leaf note. I get a watery cumcumber-like and slightly-petrol-y smell, especially in the opening, along with the citruses and ginger. in the dry-down it's an ambergris or clean ambroxan soapy scent with still a bit of that slight violet leaf smell. It's a bit spicy, it's clean, masculine, soapy, and fresh. I doubt this is entirely a formula from the 30s, it smells pretty modern. It's an 8/10 for me.

I had bought a deodorant spray of this, just to check it out, as that's much cheaper than the 'real' thing. That's what I grabbed for daytime use when going on summer dance vacation for a week. Turns out it works absolutely great for me. Gets compliments, lasts most of the day, smells really good. Fresh, but sophisticated. So now I'm wondering if there's any point for me in buying the very expensive Eau de Parfum, and whether it is something altogether different.

As a super fan of Fahrenheit 32, this is very close to it. The only difference is the vanilla which is lacking here compared to F32. So it's a more fresh take on the same fragrance. Smells really good, can't offense anyone with it. It's classy and more subtle than most men designer scent available (no overdose of ambroxan or Iso e super). However it's quite potent and very long lasting. To me (I'm a woman) it's unisex but more a little more for a man.

Though Cedar and Patchouli are the only two notes that 8&bob shares with Reflection Man, but to my nose, on my skin, they smell identical. As they settle, 8&bob becomes more intense, a tad sharper, and has a peppery spice in it while Reflection Man remains sweet and linear. But they still smell the same. 8&bob lasts longer than the current formulation of Reflection and cost half the price. Fbw? If your’e after this type of sent profile then, Yes.

Look at the notes and what you get with this are soft, beautiful versions of each. This thing is damn good and ideal for the cool to warmer times so, go for Spring/Summer but personally, as I am wearing this more and more, It's giving me the vibe to wear this for the fall. It's that woody/spicy/amber touch that is giving off the fall vibe more than the Spring vibe for me. A must check out and for me, a must have in the collection.

Great fragrance with a very designer DNA, reminds me a lot of male fragrances from the 90s. Aromatic vanilla with the right dose of sweetness, in the style of Minotaure and Roma Uomo (it doesn't exactly resemble them, but they all share the same vibe). I can't see how someone with the bare minimal knowledge of perfumery can think of this as a product from the 1930s-40s (the same with Creed fragrances).

The spirit of a seaside or a very chic return from the beach. When amber and seawater mix on a salty skin. Something unique. Appears as vanilla or amber at first but evolves to second skin loaded with the memory of a sea bath. On my shirt the next day this impression of having worn it right out of the waves. Something greedy. Can be combined but not comparable to any other.

Masterpiece. The most clean and soft scent with great longevity 10+ hours on my skin with moderate projection. Every day I get few compliments. Its gonna always be in my collection. Easy blind buy for every body. For me its more male but also female can wear it with no problem. It is very similar with Dior Fahrenheit 32 but far way better quality!!! For me 10/10

This is a mountain-fresh spring breeze like approach to a masculine aftershave/cologne. Maybe something like Himalaya but a bit calmer in character. Very nice, masculine leaning fresh airy spacious citrus, with good performance and moderate projection, anytime anywhere. It's just this might not have anough character to be 'different' but is it a bad thing?

After an initial burst of nose-stinging sharp citrus, this promptly evolves into a skin scent very reminiscent of Helmut Lang EDC. Buttery musk, milky sandalwood, vanilla, powder and a waft of white florals. Despite being a skin scent it is quite tenacious in longevity. In the same family as Jaipur EDP, Bois d'Argent, Helmut Lang EDC, I quite like it.

Frankly, I love it. Very surprised by the number of negative reviews here. The longevity and sillage is great, it’s fresh and woody and soapy and sweet with vanilla and non-pickly sandalwood, and the cardamom and citrus gives it a wonderful, almost textural dimension. The best laundry you’ve ever done, with a light scoop of ice cream.

This is an amazing Juice. It's projects and last for about 12 hours in my skin. This could easily be worn by women and could also be a signature scent. The story behind it is really nice weather is true of not its a very cool history for a perfume. The presentation is one of the best I have seen. Definitely a try!

My signature perfume, all year round; think about Fahrenheit 32 + Burberry Touch for men, but 8&BoB is less generic, less loud, less stuffy, actually way less boring. Long lasting (12h+), with a beautiful sillage, a real stunner, for sure !

solid classy scent thats semi fresh. It is versatile can be worn at work. I would suggest this for males over 25. Another solid release from this house. Try this one before you buy.

Wow, Fahrenheit 32 in a niche way, I really love this dna it is nostalgic for me, it is worth getting but try it first if you are not familiar with fahrenheit 32.

A lot of powdery bubblegum upfront. But I can get some ambergris coming through in the mid. I’m not yet at the dry down, but I’ll update when I get there.

Can't believe the formula has been around since 1937. This scent is beautiful, modern, classy. Perfect for all weather minus wintery season.

A beautiful, fresh take on Dior Fahrenheit 32. Absolutely love this comforting juice! The scent bubble this creates is pure magic.

Deep dive into spiced vanilla cream, nostalgic and clean. Superior.

This fragrance single-handedly resolved the Cuban Missile Crisis...maybe. Eight & Bob by, well, Eight & Bob is part heritage, part contemporary, and part raised eyebrow. The official lore reads like fanfiction written by Lem Billings after a few too many highballs. It goes something like this: [Disclaimer: Supposedly] A dashing French aristocrat, Albert Fouquet, whipped up a little bottle of genius in the 1930s, aided by his family butler Philippe. The secret ingredient is an unnamed Andean plant, of mysterious and strictly seasonal origin. Of course, the resulting fragrance was far too precious a scent to be sold, so M. Fouquet kept it to himself. It just so happened that a young JFK was cavorting around the French Riviera in 1937, met up with Fouquet, and charmed the fragrance out of him. Back in the USA, Kennedy supposedly sent a letter asking for nine more bottles, including “one for Bob” (sorry, Steve and Fred, none for you). Thus, Eight & Bob was born. Poor Fouquet was promptly killed in a car crash not long after, but steadfast Philippe had the formula and kept up production. Later, during World War II, bottles were smuggled across borders hidden inside hollowed-out books to prevent confiscation by evil Nazi perfumery thugs, presumably lead by some Dufthauptmann from the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg. You cannot make this stuff up (...or can you?) Mythology aside, what does it actually smell like? Pretty good, as it happens. The opening is lemony and bright, with some spicy ginger. Then come florals, herbs, and spices, with plenty of cedar and a hazelnut note that is similar to nutmeg on me. A touch of labdanum in the middle notes bridges the phases as it slides into a woodsy-amber base, mostly dominated by sandalwood, vanilla, and noticeable ambergris. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s as smooth as a campaign promise and as reliable as a philanderer’s alibi. It smells classic, inoffensive, and refined, but it also smells mostly like a good quality designer fragrance of the last 30 years. It doesn’t particularly smell like anything we know of from the 1930s (Pour un Homme de Caron, Canoe, Old Spice, etc.). Longevity and projection are at the high end of moderate, enough to make its presence known, but not enough to give everyone the Johnson Treatment. It’s sweet and creamy enough that I could imagine some women making it work, but overall it leans mostly masculine. Cynically speaking, Eight & Bob could have just been marketed as “a well-made, classic gentleman’s fragrance.” That would suit it quite well. But no, the brand decided to ladle on a story so rich it reads more like an unproduced Indiana Jones script than an origin. I keep expecting Hemingway’s steamer trunk, secret letters from Coco Chanel, and Claus von Stauffenberg‘s eyepatch to make an appearance. Should you buy it? If you like smelling good, yes. If you also enjoy telling absurd cocktail party tales about JFK and secret perfume smuggling, then absolutely.

Nice story but even the Eight and Bob website has a disclaimer at the bottom of it that reads "The story of Eight & Bob is based on a family story transmitted verbally over time. For its final narration, fictionalized facts and characters were introduced". I take this as: Essentially, we made it up so that in some strange, roundabout way, we have a connection with JFK, which theoretically may prompt Kennedy nostalgia and fragrance sales. Additionally, a little research tells me that this special ingredient called "Andrea" is likely a plant native to the Andean people in central Chile called "quillaja saponaria", which is also referred to as the soap bark tree (assuming that the addition of a special ingredient from Chile hasn't been fictionalized by Eight and Bob as well). Having said all of that, I like the fragrance and as expected, it reminds me of a lightly scented vanilla soap with only the slightest hint of powder. It's classy and it's clean. 10/10 ******************************************************************************* UPDATE: I ordered a bottle of this directly from Eight and Bob and in one of the rarest circumstances I've encountered, it's stronger than the actual sample I had from LuckyScent. All to frequently in my fragrance experiences, it seems that I get a sample of something that smells really great, order a bottle and once I get the fragrance, it seems far weaker than the sample. Not in this case. Could there be batch variance? If, as Eight & Bob claims that the wild plant, "Andrea" is in short supply due to the altitude, limited area of growth, limited months of picking and a selection process where only 7% of the plants are chosen, then the batch variance theory could be understood. To add to my earlier fragrance description: pleasantly soapy, ever so slightly scented, non offensive and completely versatile. Sillage is soft and longevity, which I initially thought was moderate is actually quite good, although it remains close to the skin. One particular day, I put the fragrance on around 1pm in the afternoon and could still smell a hint of it on my arm when I showered late that night. I consider this to be THE perfect office fragrance.

As said so many times previously, this is a pleasant, very inoffensive, fresh, soapy, creamy vanillic scent. I stress the word "fresh" because that is the first descriptive word that comes to my mind and the last word, and yet "fresh" is not even a listed accord on this page. It should be. At the top. That happens so much on Fragrantica - the inaccuracies. "Powderiness" is a listed accord but as is so often the case it should more accurately be "soapy", and should be listed higher. Moreover, the "woody" accord at the top of the Fragrantica accord stack is misleading, as the cedar and guaiac wood are very much subsumed in the background, and the sandlewood blends into the creaminess of the amber accord formed by the vanilla and labdanum. Quintessential office scent. Would make a great everyday signature scent. It seems I've smelled this DNA dozens of times, yet I have difficulty identifying any one primary comparison, and I am not familiar with any of the listed "this reminds me of..." frags on this page. I thought maybe Varvatos Artisan Pure, but not really. Then maybe Gendarme, but not too much. I have Penhaligon Castile coming in a few days and it is a much more refined and elegant fresh soapy scent in my opinion. But whatever the comparisons, Eight and Bob's scent profile is NOT one of 1937, as claimed in the brand's marketing fairytale. It is very much a modern one, and it's no coincidence that the primary comparison, Dior Farenheit 32, was released in 2007, just five years before Eight and Bob. Unless the 1937 formula was SIGNIFICANTLY altered for modern tastes, the the story is indeed a fairytale. And just look at one of the items advertised for sale on this page - a Robert Kennedy special edition of Eight and Bob. Move over Creed, someone else wants to get into the false pretense marketing fairytales game. The burden of proof is on the brand. I was fooled by Creed and stripped of my naivety. But like the Creed fragrances that are great and I enjoy, Eight and Bob the original is a nice fragrance and I'll probably end up buying a full bottle.

First Impressions (Sample Spray): Ladies, don't be afraid of rocking a perfume that is marketed toward men. I do not care I smell like a man with this perfume because it's that good. I got a sample of this perfume from twisted lily (non sponsored), and this one is an instant love for me. I wasn't sure why I loved it so much until I realized that it reminds me of my Irish grandfather, and of Washington DC where my used to grandfather lived. When I realized that it did give me a sad nostalgia of bittersweet happiness. I wonder if my grandfather was a big fan of JFK, and bought this perfume because of him. Either way I am DEFINATELY wanting to get a full bottle of this perfume. It's a very clean woody, almost soapy perfume. I usually hate warm spicy perfumes, but this one is the ABSOLUTE exception to that rule for me. Edit: Okay I think since my sample of this perfume is low, I’ve been asking my friends what how would they rate this compared to other perfumes. Someone said that this perfume smells like a department store. Now I unsee it fr. Unfortunately, my signature scent is waiting to be found. Edit 2: Alright I have finally finished my sample. I would like to say this. The notes DO NOT SMELL AT ALL LIKE THE FRAGRANCE. I was researching this perfume because I’m like I’m not getting patchouli at all. Someone said that there’s a secret ingredient that isn’t disclosed to the consumer. This ingredient is actually called soapbark from Chile, AKA Quillaja saponaria. I can totally see that! I’ve never smelled that, but now I want to smell & compare! Summary: Smells like: clean linens with a vanillic twist, a lux department store Family of: Santal 33 le labo (no pickle?) Silage: moderate to strong Verdict: Pass- the price point, & it leans more masculine. I do love it tho. It was one I almost bought a full bottle of it.

This is the flagship signature fragrance selling the unlikely story that Fouquet (self-taught perfumer) wore one of her own fragrances made with a unique and very rare plant in Chile to which he called "Andrea" and found himself in the Riviera and by chance in 1934 with a young student who happened to John F. Kennedy, this is a fancy aroma was wearing Fouquet and sold this one. And from the US after John FK delighted by the success I send a commission of eight and if he could more other fragrance for Bob. It smelled like creamy bananas and nutmeg for quite some time, which was totally unexpected. I absolutely loved that. Sillage was huge, and it lasted a solid 10+ hours on me. This was from the company's own carded sample. I get strong and very real palo santo, one of my favorite notes, along with something that does indeed smell mysterious. Can't imagine what this "Andrea" plant could really be, if there is even such a "secret ingredient" plant at all. I bet it's as tangible as Kokomo. I'd say this is not an ordinary cologne. It opened up with a wonderful spicy mix and settles into creamed woods. It's comforting in cool weather. The only thing I will say that could be disappointing is that there is zero real ambergris in this. There is nothing animalic here at all. In any case, the drydown was super creamy-woody and a tad musky (like synthetic musk, not animalic). I absolutely love it, couldn’t forget it, and ultimately purchased the travel spray. Update: My travel spray smells NOTHING like the unique fragrance I described above! Was there a (gulp) reformulation? What I now own smells like a really ordinary cologne. There's no palo santo, no banana scent, no mysterious herb. It just smells like a soft cologne mixed with something creamy in the base. I'm so disappointed!

This perfume was created in 1934 by Albert Fouquet, a member of the elite of early twentieth-century French society, who loved to create various essences with the help of his butler. One night in 1937, during a reception on the French Riviera, he found himself talking to a young American student who was traveling around France with a big cabriolet: John Fitzgerald Kennedy. JFK was fascinated by the essence that Albert wore, so that the following morning he had it delivered to the hotel with a note: "In this vial is the touch of French charm that is missing from your American personality". On his return from vacation, Fouquet received a letter from Kennedy, informing him of the success that the perfume was having among his friends. So he ordered at least "eight samples and, if the production allows, another for Bob". This is how Eight & Bob is born, for the most elegant men in the world. On the death of Albert Fouquet in 1939, he was the faithful butler and assistant to continue the production of Eight & Bob which, even today, slavishly follows the formula of the past. This fragrance has a history like no other fragrance. One of the best wood fragrances. To be worn mainly in winter and autumn. FRAGRANCE TO VENERATE!

The last of six samples form Eight & Bob Discovery set, this perfume opens masculine then dries down to a unisex scent. Opening is soapy and strong, with good projection of 12 feet or more. There were three of us last night that decided to try this at the same time, including my fragrance shy husband who loved it. My female friend also liked the opening, but on my skin I found it too generic and unimpressive. Dry down was much more pleasant - a very clean, starchy scent. I pick up spices and wood in this phase. Still not something I feel I need, and for the price.....a pass. I didn’t like any of the Eight & Bob samples to justify a purchase, but this selection is one of the better options. As far as the JFK story and connection, that’s a bunch of marketing bullshit—it’s done all the time. Every brand is telling their “story” and stuff like this helps sell to the masses. On one hand I understand why, but it’s also dishonest. There might be a kernel of truth (possibly) but it’s been embellished to fit the brand narrative.

Was really drawn in by the story, read somewhere (trying to chase amazing niche fragrances) JFK wore creed vetiver (not original vetiver,"vetiver" is now vaulted) but i assumed original vetiver is close and i love that fragrance then saw he also was really known for eight and bob and i had to get a sample. Im wearing it right now 2 hours into it and its nice..but listen...its FEMININE. my ideal cologne is something that is masculine sensual sporty alluring and irresistible. this is just not that, overall this is a vanilla elegant warm soft fragrance that would really fit a younger to middle age women as a young man (21) i like it but dont love it and dont see JFK wearing it. creed OV is a presidents scent crisp masculine green professional manly sexy but i dont see this as a man of power fragrance ill wear the sample but ultimately pass on a bottle purchase.
