Guéthary

Guéthary is an unusual, creative offering from Eight & Bob. After the underwhelming Annicke collection, Guéthary feels like a return to form of sorts alongside the excellent Agneta - where Agneta is a high-quality take on a classic accord, Guéthary is artistic, even weird, but ultimately, it pays off. Guéthary opens with herbal, slightly spicy marigold - a divisive note that I quite enjoy. There is a saltiness in the background that paves the way nicely to the suede base. The ambergris inspiration behind this scent was clearly evident even before I read the description - the salty amber accord forms the backbone of this scent. Soft, clean white florals with a hint of woodiness in the background add body as it develops. Slightly sweet and powdery, it is at its most feminine here. The amber base develops steadily in the background however, coming to the fore during the drydown stage. It becomes musky and slightly sweet as it dries down, although the salty amber accord prevails. It is slightly mineralic, but is far from a run-of-the-mill mineralic scent. It fades to a salty-musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. More an olfactory artwork than something I would wear, Guéthary is a creative scent that succeeds in capturing the image it was intended to convey. It is certainly wearable depending on taste. An unusual transeasonal scent, this is a worthy addition to a great brand. 4/5.

Just the general impression here as my husband tried it on skin. It's leathery, animalic, subtle and quite sexy but the dry down is maybe spoiled a little (in close up at least) by synthetics, which is true of all the Eight and Bob perfumes I've experienced so far (only four so far on skin!) I mention 'in close up' because a lot of these perfumes are about creating an impression, not so much enjoying the scent on an intimate level. I mean, for me the ideal is a perfume that does both - I'd include Gucci Alchemist's Garden 'Voice of the Snake in that category - powerful, yet breath-in-able close-up! I like this, I think it's classy. The Eight and Bob perfumes remind me of contemporary Hermes, but more in-your-face!

This is kind of a weird one, I don't know what it's about this perfume but it's kinda mesmerizing to me. Pleasant scent, the salt gives a mineralic touch combined with white musk-accord, I can find some kind of plastic-accord in it aswell. Might need a bottle one day, because this one takes me down memory lane. Smells like a childhood friends room where me & my friend spent most of my days playing Playstation 1 in his parents leather sofa.

White musk, hedione, a light mineralic touch and a slightly sweet, creamy & lactonic note. Very simple and suitable for people with sensitive noses or that otherwise don't want to wear loud fragrances. For fans of Silver Musk by Nasomatto. Am I a fan? Not particularly. Pleasant but underwhelming.

This perfume reminds me of MAC foundation smell. Anyone that uses that or has a mum that used to use it will understand. Unique but would I wear it often??? Idk. I just appreciate how they could bottle that smell
