Musc Ultra

It's a surprisingly complex and unique scent. Overall I find it hard to say wether it really should be called a musc in the name, rather than something that alludes to tobacco or leather. It opens very green and dry. It's more graprefruit than bergamot to me, because bergamot smells more like a rounded aromatic citrus, but what I get here is dry and green like grapefruit and pomelo. I'm not at all displeased with this because I think it's a note that goes well with a prominent leather accord. The first thing that greets me after the opening is a clean, somewhat sweet white musc. And I feel like the top and heart notes melt together a bit. Because although I get some pepper with the citrus, it is soon gone. The resins and the saffron note are kind of there, but not. And I have suspicion they both become a part of how I experience the base notes, rather than being distingushable. The musc to me behaves more like a heart than base note, too. It's almost immediately there, minutes into the development, but I can't really detect it in the drydown as much. Once the citrus and musc have made their appearance the composition becomes tobacco dominant, drying down into a prominent leather. I think the oil is very well blended. The opening has the starkest contrast to the rest of the development, but I think once you understand what it is, it's really enjoyable. From all the perfume oils I've had I find this to be the least linear. So in that sense it behaves like alcohol based perfumes, which may be a bit unexpected for some in case they're expecting... I'm not sure what Musc Ultra is supposed to convey. In any case it's a beautiful scent that is very unisex, despite the sweetness in the middle.
