Gladiator Oud

Having been obsessed with gladiators since I was a kid, I jumped at the chance of trying a perfume (another obsession of mine) based on “warrior theater” when I saw Gladiator Oud hit the scene. When I first sprayed the fragrance on my skin it was a chilly day and I’d gotten out of a warm shower about 30 mins prior. The first spray garnered an almost immediate worry for me because the first thing I smelled was a very dense, sweaty cumin. Ever since trying Amouage’s Fate Man, the cumin note has been terrifying for me because I ended up smelling like curry for a solid 2 days - could not scrub it off. The hay note was also very prominent, but it wasn’t unpleasant. It added a very earthy element to the scent. I also noticed the saffron, which is one of my favorite perfume notes, and that helped me cope with the strong cumin note. I decided to stay the course and let the perfume unfold. About 30 minutes in, I realized that Gladiator Oud is a piece of art. I was working and, every time I moved my arm, this absolutely divine scent would waft up to my nose. It was earthy, sensual, complex and rich. I couldn’t stop smelling my wrists all day. It became sweeter as time passed, but maintained that earthy smell from the vetiver and immortelle. The Oud is beautiful, but very dry and a tad medicinal. I feel like the geranium and honey pull this away from becoming a heavier scent. I love the Patchouli in this as well, especially since Patchouli was a staple in Ancient Rome because it was everywhere and it covered the smells of daily life. Gladiator Oud definitely doesn’t smell like anything I’ve tried before. I ended up imagining that this is what hunky gladiators in TV shows and movies smell like when they’ve finished a fight. I also kept in mind that people of Ancient Rome treated the more successful gladiators of the arenas as rock stars. Women would pay to own their preferred, popular gladiator’s actual post-battle sweat so they could use it as an aphrodisiac. There’s an undertone of sweat/musk here in Gladiator Oud, but the rest of the notes keep it from being funky or offensive. I love how there’s history in this bottle. This scent will fill a room, for quite a while. Performance is impressive! People will smell it on you as you pass by them. I wouldn’t label this as a crowd pleaser or a safe blind buy, but if you want to stand out and if you feel like being unique and mysterious, wear this one.

I disagree with the review below me....I don't get a lot of oud I get more cedar and very high quality cedar at that. That Atlas cedar note is great and this smells like a very classy refined cedar high class man's fragrance. I was not expecting it to be this fresh and its actually very fresh although I would not wear this in high heat. It's a great mans fragrance and I am completely surprised because it's so good. I'm just smelling my arm over and over again lol. Initios Oud for Greatness and Thameen Carved Oud has alot more oud in it in my opinion. There is some slight oud but that cedar note with the spicy green freshness is blended so darn well. I really like this one. I got a bunch of samples from Habibi ny but this is a top contender with better performance in my opinion. So to conclude this is more smooth cedar and fresh that can be worn during the day. This is blended so extremely well so no stinking from any potential heavy oud smell. Try this is more fresh than you would think. Gladiator Oud. 8.7/10 Edit - the same aroma chemical that is in polo green I believe is in this as well. That bite in the opening is there of pure pine tree can be smelt but it's smooths out after initial spray. The ingredients though are in fact high quality. I'm voting that this "smells like" polo green because to me it shares many similarities.

Given my experience with the cumin in Vanilla Edesia, I was a little concerned about applying the Gladiator Oud sample, particularly since immortelle is also in the mix, which when not constructed well, can also come across a little sweaty. However, I can confidently say that, for me, the cumin and immortelle combination absolutely works here. Those notes compliment the other notes in this fragrance very well, and the rest of the composition keeps the cumin and immortelle out of the "funky pit" lane. I'd honestly take this over Overture Man by Amouage precisely because the cumin here isn't nearly as in your face. I wanted to love Overture Man, but the cumin in that edged into "funky" territory in the fragrance, at least to my nose. For me, this is full-bottle worthy (loving the saffron, the woody/herbal base, and even that cumin/immortelle combination), but this fragrance is NOT blind buy safe. Then again, you really shouldn't be blind buying anything, but if you are the type who likes to spin the wheel and hope you get lucky, this is definitely one of those you REALLY need to try before you buy.

This is obviously going to be divisive. Cumin and oud are two notes that can turn off a lot of people. Personally, I quite like this but wouldn’t splurge for a full bottle maybe due to the cumin overdose which limits this to quite cold weather. Also, I feel prefer many other ouds out there. Oud seven by matiere I feel is quite similar without the cumin. This is decant worthy IMO. I’ve seen some electimus bottles go for as low as $55-60 at that price this is a no brainer. However at $230 which is the lowest I’ve seen I’d rather something else.

To me this is a very addictive scent that fills a room and has a two block scent trail. Its my wifes favorite oud scent and shes not really an oud fan. Its not funky(oud) or sweaty(cummin) at all to me, even with your noise in it. In the air outdoors its strange the way it dances around. Date night signature worthy, if you timed it right. One spray is all you need, two max. Not a blind buy scent and definitely not a sweet juvenile scent. This is an unapologetic mans scent.

Why do I keep coming back to this fragrance? Maybe thinking about purchasing a bottle. Picking up dark Oud and ginger with fig notes. Campfire, leather and florals. Love it! I picture a battle hardened warrior on a horse with fire and destruction all around and spitting blood, fear, saliva and adrenaline to the ground. Who cares, this is life. Dark horse male vibes. Male protective vibes. A battle won and survived. Perfect for visiting the boss. Might make him nervous!

Along with a clean natural oud, the power is coming from cumin, hay, immortelle and unsweetened honey. It’s absolutely packed full of high quality LMR naturals and it feels like it. It’s full strength, and I can understand why some reviewers have struggled with it, but I adore it. It feels classy yet wild. this just sweaty arm pit mixed with raw honey (not sweet) aromatic, slightly green, dry hay bales, its just so strange but for some reason I keep sniffing myself it's just weird can't put my finger on it but it's like I've smelt this before people always ask what I'm wearing and they love it One of my favourites of all time and a all day wear

Really a well constructed , well balanced smooth yet powerful perfume with a style of 80-90's perfumery. Good quality Oud paired with saffron , Cedar is excellent , at the same time spicyness&hay are giving the dry airy vibe and honey is adding the warmth i guess. all in all is a great one to have. Note : Not Very Oud dominant scent.

This is really good if you like oud. A warm spicy oud that's slightly sweet from the honey and refined with just a little powderiness. It's both bold and delicate at the same time. I like it a lot, but at the same time, if someone asked this is something a boomer would wear, I would say yes.

Very pleasant Oud and Saffron, reminds me of Lail from Frederic Malle, no wonder since it the same perfumer but leaning more masculine here. Another impressive work from Julien Rasquinet.

WOW!!! This is so good. I can’t stop sniffing myself. The Immortelle and honey add this perfect subtle sweetness that makes this so cozy. This is a warm blanket on a cold snowy day.

Opening fresh spicy, cumin, saffron, animalic, sweet, I like it, Improves with drying

This is the first time I have ever sampled a fragrance from Electimuss. In fact this is the first time I have tried anything from England. I typically get fragrances from Italy or France or sometimes even the United States. Just wanted to let you know so you know where I'm starting from. In my opinion, a fragrance should do more than just take you somewhere or remind you of something. It should evoke something much deeper. It should stir your spirit and soul in a way that is almost inexpressible. And it doesn't necessarily have to be a positive reaction. It just has to be authentic and deeply personal. Some people think fragrance is about armchair travel, but that is a superficial view in my opinion. The best fragrance creators understand it is much more than that. It's about identifying something within yourself that has been forgotten. That specific feeling of remembering something you didn’t realize was forgotten. Gladiator Oud is an atmospheric fragrance. It's the location director more than executive producer if that makes sense. Upon initial spray, there is a significant kick of oud that is obviously authentic. Very strong. Thank God it only lasts for a couple minutes. Afterword, the commencement of Earth begins. Aside from the immortelle which is very sweet, everything about this fragrance is about the Earth. Very natural smelling, it's everything you could desire during the autumn months if you are not into gourmand scents. I don't dislike them, but they are not my favorite. Most of them are overly sweet and my stomach starts to turn after about an hour. The difficulty for me is trying to find something sweet or gourmand without going overboard. (ex: vanille antique is overly sweet for my skin). Gladiator Oud is perfect in that regard.

Interesting, this is like a cross between a spicy middle eastern scent and a really good 80's masculine powerhouse. Imagine Polo Green meets a sober Amouage Overture Man. Sharp, green, mossy, leathery, square shouldered, but with more woods, resins and spices. I want to say that I get some oud as well, but it's definitely not enough to justify the name, I think it's really more of a woody incense vibe with some cumin that makes it funky/animalic in a slightly armpit sweat-y kinda way especially if you smell it up close, and it could come across as quite animalic and fool you into thinking it resembles oud if you’re unfamiliar with the real thing. However, it's still quite a nice, complex, layered scent that shifts a lot according to the distance you smell it from, it's powerful and long lasting and it has a beautiful, elegant drydown, it almost reminds me of something Amouage would make. It's just that the name is slightly deceiving.

Having owned two bottles of Overture Man, I don't see any connection here. Where OM is grapefruit, cinnamon, myrrh, leather and sandalwood, Gladiator Oud is a very pleasant oud topped with sweeter notes. Though there are no fruits listed, I get a "red berries" accord (perhaps a result of sweet patchouli and honey?) that persists throughout the long life of the fragrance. The red fruit and oud combo reminds me of Malle's The Moon, both by Rasquinet. Longevity is impressive. One spray to the back of the hand lasted all day and past the evening shower. Accordingly, price is not too bad, considering that one bottle should last a long time. Very enjoyable, but not a full bottle for me.

This is honey oud like some other fragrance brands but with a much stronger (medicinal) real oud, a bunch of earthy tones and the honey is not overly sweet. The additions to the other honey oud fragrances here are a lot of cumin, a lot of patchouli and a bit of saffron which overall lends a lot of earthy and dry spiced leather tones. The geranium adds a touch of brightness to stop this overall being too dark, and there are some synthetics here that do this too which is good and bad. Very masculine imho. Reminds me a bit of Francesa Bianchi's Black Knight and Amouage Fate Man but I prefer this one, it's less like a spice kitchen and more matches the theme/name.

Attention grabbing bombastic woody aromatic with animalic overtones, this is a scent for the macho unafraid man. The scent opens with notes of cumin, saffron and honey. There is a very brief heart of immortelle, hay and geranium. The perfume soon settles into a dense powdery base of oud, ambergris, patchouli, vetiver and cedar. The masculine leaning scent is beast mode and lasts forever because of addition of synthetic calones. Nothing that has not been done before, but those who like beastly mode masculine perfumes need to give this one a try. Enjoy!

Weird, “artsy,” medicinal or herbal, with an otherwise typical dry oud note. There’s saffron involved and that was an unfortunate choice. Where would we be without patchouli? And gnarly, rooty vetiver. I kinda see what they were going for based on the name but it should’ve been more pungent. The perfumer achieved balance without harmony. This fragrance should’ve been less soily and dry, more pungent and alive. Gladiator Oud should’ve been called Earthly Oud, or something like that. Missed the mark. That said, it is a unique, niche scent and profile.

This is a great profile. However, I would take Overture Man or Overture Woman hands down over this. Those two provide a little more depth. I think the booziness does it. Overture Woman would probably win. However, if you don't want the boozy aspect you can find this a little cheaper at a discounter. Comes with a bottle that also serves as a fantastically beautiful paperweight or a weapon. Great longevity with decent projection for the first hour.

I generally don't like honey and immortelle because they can be too sweet for me, and I've always been a little afraid of cumin, but somehow this hits the right balance of warm-spicy-earthy-woody-cozy. I'm unlikely to shell out for a full bottle, since I already have other warm woods in my collection that I like quite a lot, but I'm happy to have a sample.

Warm and inviting oud scent with a hint of cumin, which I normally don't like but here it feels discreet and totally on its place. Reminds a bit of mentioned above as similar Amouage Overture Man, but that one is fresher and boozier comparing to Gladiator Out which is denser and spicier. A masculine scent, rich, ling-lasting and comfortable to wear.

Very oud forward (you never know, some fragrances have oud in the name and don't smell like oud) with a twist. The hay gives it a rougher edge but it's balanced with sweetness in the background. Pretty good, not surprising or super unique but it's very good for what it's supposed to be : an oud fragrance. Performance is very good.

Boss Bottled Absolu but take away almost all of the sweetness, add prominent hay and cumin notes. That’s what this is to me. Kind of also smells like Aoud Exclusif from Mancera. Edit: VERY STRONG. I sprayed this on my wrist at 3am last night and it projected until around 2:30pm today.

Opens with green funky oud. Then gets almost Rhino like. After with drydown green go backstage and oud sweetened by patchouli (sweet type) gets foreward. Some saffron, little hay (very top). Heavy, dark, very unique. There is this antiques books store vibe.

The opening is rough and aggressive. After about 30 minutes though it completely changes and it smells great!

Gladiator Oud enters the arena with an aggressively spicy opening, kicking things off with an assault of cumin and saffron. This initial stage has a brief but distinct "body odor" moment, which may delight or repulse, depending on the wearer. The cumin and saffron calm down after the first few minutes, but they still maintain a consistent presence throughout. Although the oud is detectable, it is blended with the other notes so as not to overwhelm them. This makes for a well-balanced fragrance, but it might disappoint someone expecting a seriously oud-forward product based off of the name. Electimuss markets this one as "unisex," but it skews quite masculine and I would give a caveat emptor to would-be women buyers unless they are comfortable with fragrances with a very stereotypically "manly" scent profile. For context, I'm a woman who loves wearing classic Fougères like Bijan Men and Jules, and I still found this to be too butch for me. (Side note: I've noticed a trend of upscale niche houses labeling literally everything "unisex," regardless of scent profile. I don't know if it's a political correctness thing or a cash grab thing, but I do have to say as somebody who buys pretty much all my perfume online, it's quite frustrating when trying to get a handle on what something is actually going to smell like. Scent is for **everyone** obviously, but at the same time I'm not really a fan of spending my frag budget on samples of stuff that end up making me feel like I'm walking around in drag.) About a half hour in, Gladiator Oud settles down into a sophisticated, immortelle-driven dry-spicy scent that is probably more appealing to mature wearers. Despite the intriguing name and potentially animalic notes pyramid, Gladiator Oud is ultimately quite mannerly, and doesn't overwhelm the wearer or clobber the people in its vicinity. The juxtaposition between the aggressive opening and the mellow dry-down is interesting from a narrative standpoint, but also might be a turn-off for the respective fans of both—those seeking a fragrance evocative of conflict might ultimately find this too mannerly, and those that enjoy the "easygoing-yet-hip old money" vibe in the dry-down might get squicked out by the violent opening. Gladiator Oud has that specific sweet-animalic (dare I say a little halitosis-y) quality which seems to have become quite popular within the last few years. If you're familiar, I'd say this smells like a masculinized version of Francesca Bianchi's Lost in Heaven; it also bears some similarity to The Black Knight from the same house. I respect Electimuss' commitment to using natural materials, but ultimately there are many frags that will fill a similar gap in your collection and perform as well without being so expensive—I don't think this one is worth it for the price.

Masculine, warm spicy. It's very sweet, the honey is quite noticeable. This is a cold weather fragrance, and suits evenings, dates, nights out, formal events. Not office friendly. Sillage and longevity is spectacular.

They whom the gods punish get this scent up their nose all day.The good things about Gladiator Oud include its unchanging nature; those top notes fade a bit, but the overall perfume is there in the first 30 seconds, there's no settling, no transformation in the dry down. What you smell is what you get. It also has seriously impressive longevity; Gladiator Oud seems to last forever. It has been my first scrub-off among this year's Christmas samples and what a battle that was! Soap, washing up liquid, rubbing alcohol, nothing seems to shift this stuff, which just stays there like some stubborn gladiator intent on never leaving the arena. Only time seems to remove GO cos the Emperor's not listening, and the gods are hiding in Elysium. At first it just seems like an oud made less generic by a strange buzzy addition to it, something that promises to be a little different. It's got a thirsty feeling I often get from geranium, so I wasn't surprised to see that ingredient in the notes list. I think the saffron and hay may have added to the dryness, but couldn't really make out individual notes. All I found was that the scent, which began by being interesting cos I didn't know how it would develop, became dull and irritating when it didn't develop at all. A thumbs down from me.

The note list looked great on paper, but something was telling me this would be another one of those Amberwood, nitro musk-loaded chemical bombs. And yes, that's just about right. If you are into niche perfumes and nuclear bombs, this might be of interest. If you are quite familiar with natural ingredients and natural Oud, save yourself the trouble, and a migraine.

Dark and masculine. Reminds me of a dark forest crowded by trees during the nighttime. The oud mixes well with the saffron and cumin, but some may find it a little too dark and off putting. There is a sweetness I smell, not sure if it's from the hay, honey, or immortelle. Together all these notes make a complete fragrance that's enjoyable for men looking for a darker profile of scents that's still something people around you like to get a smell of.

I tried this yesterday, I must admit the high quality of ingredients (normal for this price point, £395), but it's a very strong and animalic oud with honey, and a lot (unbalanced amount) of cumin. There are other ingredients, but the cumin is predominant and stays forever, so I hate it. If you don't mind an ultra strong cumin, then maybe try it. If you don't mind smell as a gladiator after fighting with three tigers and an elephant, go ahead! Otherwise, stay away (veeeeery away because this is a horrible beast).

What a beautiful, happy, colorful and vibrant scent I can’t get the animalic or the sweaty touch that many talking about not much to talk about in the composition of Gladiator oud if you’ve been in this hobby you’ll recognize straight away! Happy opening with caramelized sweetness due to the cumin mixture with saffron and immortal the heart reminds me of oud ispahan with the fruity rose mixed with geranium as the lands on wood dry base and all notes playing in background you’ll get reminded of some of Julien Rasquinet other fragrances like Frederic Malle the moon or pdm fidelis i actually love it and got my bottle in good deal two spray is more than enough to be surrounded with that happy aura the whole day

My full bottle has just arrived. First impressions on paper are positive. I like it. It definitely has the Electimuss DNA and I'm picking up hints of some of their other fragrances (Jupiter among other things). That said, it does smell unique to my nose. I have nothing like this in my collection. I'm definitely picking up the honey (not a euphemism). I will be back with more once I've given it a full wearing. Update: Having spent more time with this fragrance I agree with the review (above) from Dr B1414. Gladiator Oud is a headache inducing nuclear bomb. Those who care only about sillage and projection will love it.

Saw the notes and broke my neck to get a sample. Oh yes the beginning was a fight alright almost dizzying. The dirt was there but more Saxon village wattle and daub horsey than human. The mid was a heavy rose bubble then the gladiator left the arena until the next day and returned to pick up his sword having spent the night sleeping in a taverna’s back doorway and THEN it was human skin but unsexy by now. Excellent longevity but ouchsies on the price. Been wearing this for a week and it’s so well blended I feel like a luxurious jam tart

Whatever the connection between this and Overture - and I think it's there, especially as it dries down - this has without the booze. What was booziness (and a little pissiness) in Overture becomes relatively aromatic herbal in its place which suits my taste better. The cumin I wouldn't have picked out unless I was looking for it or reading other reviews about it but sure enough it is there. It's a similar cumin note (but /way/ toned down) from Royal Tobacco also from Amouage

Un arquetipo como el que encontramos en Haltane de PDM, aunque en Electimuss se encuentra más balanceado, menos dulce, más rico en matices, existe una faceta más o menos terrosa, sudorosa y no tan lineal como Haltane. Definitivamente esto tiene más calidad.

This smells like wallking into an antique store that is woody and dark. The cumin adds a bit of antique funk. It is a bit too sweet for my tasting. But this is a general mainstream oud fragrance that doesnt try to be ombre nomade and oud maracuja. 6/10

If you hate cumin, then RUNNNNN! It should be called Gladiator Cumin. It's warm outside in NYC these days, and the cumin with a background of hay is all I smell. I will wait until it's cold outside to pass judgment on this fragrance.

Cumin, patchouli, cypriol, soft leathery oud, incense and vanilla. Quite a big presence but not overpowering because of its subtle sweetness and smooth blend. A very pleasant, masculine wear.

Way too many conflicting notes! Spicey, woody, oud, that's herbal and earthy? Not for me. I'm confused about when or why anyone would wear this?!

Anamalic honey maybe? If so i need to test this, honey is a top 10 note.
