Summanus

Some of the reviews below are hilariously dramatic. There's absolutely nothing offputting here, beside perhaps the name for the phonetically challenged. But if youre literally the god of nocturnal thunder, Summanus actually feels appropriate.. More importantly the smell, Summanus is a moody indulgent gourmand through and through, sophisticated and delicious! It opens with sweet candied spices, orange, bergamot and pine, fizzing and electric coca-cola for thirty glorious minutes. The heart is pure luscious booze, dripping with enough jammy rose damascena, jasmine and ambery cognac, to ease one into the nights activities. The base is gourmand woods, giving the impression of a creamy boozy layer cake with a dusting of fine powdered cacao. All of the deliciousness is presented behind a classy, dark and adult filter. Room filling performance and sexy on both genders (slight masculine bias), Summanus is a 10/10 and has a bizarely underrated score.

Citrus amber. A sweet counterbalance of candied orange peels with fresh, earthy spices and warm resins. Flavored with a hint of green, plus a touch of airy florals to help keep it from getting too dense. The woody base bolsters the creamy texture of the resins and reveals itself steadily as it dries down. Moderate projection for 5-6hr, longevity 12hr+. Not too sweet, not too heavy, no single element stands out. A well-balanced, and fairly linear, composition.

There's something on initial spray that burns my nostrils. A few minutes later I've come to realize this is an Oud Satin Mood but for men. Brilliant!

I received a sample of this after buying a travel size of Imperium for a friend and it smells classy, dark and smooth. I mostly just get incense and smoke and powder from it though. It didn’t evolve much on my skin. It took me a while to remember the fragrance it reminded me of. It reminded me a lot of Kissing Burns 6.4 Calories An Hour, by Killian just more refined and more unisex leaning. I feel like this is a nighttime/winter fragrance. I’m not saying they’re similar. They just remind me of each other in how my nose feels about them. It’s not for me but if you’re a fan of dark, smokey woodsy fragrances this might be for you. I imagine an older gentleman with salt n pepper hair dressed in a grey suit with a a gold watch and a cigar in one hand and a glass of scotch in the other hand inside of a dark upscale bar/restaurant wearing this. But I just as easily imagine a tall and elegant woman wearing a black dress and vibrant red lipstick with a black clutch purse and long wavy brunette hair at the same or similar bar/restaurant, wearing this fragrance. Performance: I don’t think it projects much or lasts that long. After about 3 hours it became a soft skin scent on me although I may have just gone nose blind to it.

One of my more favorite fragrances from this house; with initial scents that are sweet, dirty, and boozy. After 2.5 hour dry down it changes quite a bit. I think I pick up some saffron and sweet florals; it maintains the booziness which I like.

Not gonna lie, first glance was wood, rose, and feces. Then it dried out into something more wearable but that opening is daring.

With a rather heady opening, Summanus took me to a secluded aromatic garden... notes of cardamom, bergamot, orange, black pepper, ginger, pine and elemi made me spin a little...then I was greeted by bulgarian rose, jasmine absolute, amyris, amber and cognac, a tad too sweet and indulgent for me... not what I was expecting from Summanus, the Roman god of nocturnal thunder!. The woody powdery base (sandalwood, cedar, nagarmotha, guaiac and tonka) is not very prominent. Well, well, well Mr Provenzano, what happened here?. For me, this is an 'OK' fragrance, I would have liked to see the 'god of nocturnal thunder' truly shine through more appropriate notes revealing it's 'thundery' nature, definitely smokey!. Maybe the names were confused?... the notes here seem to belong to 'Capua' and Capua's notes definitely represent Summanus. Oh well...

This fragrance contains Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Benzoate, and Benzyl Salicylate. Animal studies have demonstrated that Hexyl Cinnamal is an endocrine disruptor. In 2009, "The Journal of Applied Toxicology" published an in-vitro study (i.e., conducted on human breast cells) which demonstrated that the chemicals known as Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, and Butylphenyl methylpropional (aka Lilial) are all estrogenic (aka "oestrogenic" in the U.K.) chemicals--do better, Electimuss. Choosing to smell sexy shouldn't be a hazardous decision.

Mildly gnarly but seems wearable. Barnyard wood dominates a mixed rose accord. Turns into light roses mixed with amber and cardamom. Gets worse as it develops and gets more pungent. Pass!

Hmmm, This one creates an odd note for me that smells a little cheesy, like Parmesan or that weird sour sweat stench. I didn't get the spicy black pepper or burnt wood I was expecting from the notes listed and old reviews I'd seen much whatsoever. Instead, this is dried rose petals from an old bouquet, cardamom and yes, shaving foam. I'm not a fan of this one at all and the sweaty cheese note really is rather nauseating.

Smelled like burnt wood and freshly ground pepper sprinkled on top. Didn't enjoy this.

Has a weird stink. Like the smell of old sweat in the crevice of your skin. At first spray, I got the delicious guiac wood...and then that sweet stink, under an almost shaving cream soap smell. No. Just... no.

Imagine walking into a Sheesha joint and someone spills rose flavouring on you. It is a mix of sheesha smoke (gives me a headache instantly) plus sweat. One of the most vile perfumes I've ever smelt......ever.

I've oversprayed Summanus just now, and finally smell the black pepper and burnt aspect of the woods, but the whole time I have been testing this sample, I didn't get any spiciness from this fragrance. In fact, it's a very sweet woody perfume. I can't handle too many sprays of this, because of the strange sweetness, so it has taken me a while to run through my sample. I don't know if it's the nagarmotha I'm smelling or if sandalwood itself can sometimes smell like this, but the sweetness is almost like of something fetid. Like the way feet can smell sweet and terrible at the same time. It doesn't smell like feet, but the sweetness is definitely almost off-putting if there is too much. It's nice, perfume in the Arabian style - although I haven't smelled anything quite like this. But I didn't look forward to wearing it because of that weird herbal sweetness. You know, it kind of smells like paan (betel leaf) that's been prepared along with some burning sandalwood. It's that kind of oriental vibe. I wouldn't want to smell like this all over, though - I've only been enjoying it in small doses on my wrist. If you like it, I gotta give it this for credit - it is strong!!

Yeah, this is good shit right here. Great even. No single note stands out but I can detect the rose, citrus, pine, and cognac. Very well blended and easily a signature type scent, but be careful cause there's a lil funk in there coming from one of the notes or maybe a combination of notes. It's not animalic per se, but it does have a faint wiff of someone's anus, title be damned. Not in a bad way whatsoever (I know how that sounds but I'm not an ass sniffer) .....it's just there and I noticed. Personally, I like weird notes so this doesn't offend me and it's not powerful enough to overthrow everything else. It's not super boozy or super rosey. I do wish the cardamom jumped out more since it's my favorite spice but that's minor. Oh, and it's DEFINITELY a performance beast that will easily give you 10+ hrs of longevity and great silage so spray light in office settings. Full bottle worthy and approved.

Sample from discovery set. Paper test. This is a really charming rose oud and I largely agree with how HungarianGenius summed this up. Oud is low down in the profile, and this is all about the sweet, warm notes although I’d stop short of calling it a full blown gourmand. I like the hint of booze and the candied rose is sumptuous. Like what Datura-Darling mentioned, I also get a very sour sweat smell like what I would encounter in the gym or locker room, which gives it a very skanky animalic vibe. Reminds me of Ted Lapidus PH but not as sweet. They likely use the balsamic end of the guaiac wood note. I dont detect the other facets of this fragrance. Not a fragrance for all occasion but one to use if you want to express your masculinity and virility.

Rose oud, so far unremarkable from blotter, but very nice if you like rose ouds. In terms of posterior I think some are giving undue weight to the name.. For me it certainly smells heavily of roses, in a pure rose oil absolute way, on the green fruity side of rose, on the edge of smoky, supported with a little wood with cypriol warmth.

It’s definitely a room filler and it’s wise not to sniff direct from skin for the first hour at least, for the reasons given below. One of the best in the rose oud genre to the point of divine
