Cuir Bourbon

One word: Beautiful. This is one unicorn I have been curious about for a long time, and I am so happy to have it in my collection... finally. A beautiful, perfectly balanced leather-vanilla fragrance. The leather here is not processed or car seat leather as in Cherry Punk, or a suede as in Babycat but a hide leather, similar to what you would get standing inside an Italian leather goods store. The vanilla is not gourmand, it’s more vanilla pods crushed to release the oily essence. It is subtle, classy, and perfectly balanced. I don’t know how Monsieur Kurkdjian does his magic but he does it well. The saffron is in the background, giving a subtle spiciness that does not compete with the main notes. On my skin, I do not get the musk. The end product is a beautiful, subtly sweet, powdery, well-balanced choreography of the notes, creating a unique, inviting scent bubble. This would be perfect for a classy occasion where you want to smell unique but can’t be loud with your fragrance. An absolute shame that it was discontinued.

Whiskey, vanilla and leather. What's more to ask? The first thing that emerges from the decanter is a boozy scent, similar to that of a fine single malt. Leather and vanilla, intertwined, ubiquitous, create a velvety mist that lasts and lasts. No rough edges here, perfectly unisex, ideal for layering indeed. Sits close to the skin, as I believe it is supposed to, since in great doses, it could be cloying. My only complaint is that the vanilla feels a little synthetic. By no means can it measure up to Dior or Givenchy vanilla. Still, the opulence and mystery this scent breathes is uncommon and very much sought after for me. Instant love.

The dry down is where the Kurkdjian magic happens. The top notes are strong and it’s nice but a little confusing at the start because you’re not exactly sure what it’s presenting. But once all that heavy smoke and saffron start to fade and you get those creamy notes with hints of smoke and boozy notes, it’s truly special

Wow this is really nice but such a ripoff

Very warm and clean vanilla. I find it perfect to wear with a cashmere cardigan on a cold winter night. Having that cloud of soft vanilla just warms me up right away. I could see how this can be layered with another minimal, but heavier scent to give the fragrance an edge I feel it's missing, especially after it has opened up. I could actually enjoy more leather in the base, as on my skin it disappears quite rapidly.

Voluptuous sweet leather.. The opening of Cuir Bourbon is boozy with a hefty dose of (realistic!) leather with added saffron, that gives the smoky impression of a fine spirit, for instance a single malt whiskey. The blend is very effortlessly laid out by msr. Kurkdjian and slowly the leather gives way to a velvety dry and sweet vanilla with hints of musk and a touch of oak. The fragrance notes depicted are quite correct and you could argue that this is a rather simple recipe of only four notes, but the composition itself does not leave me the impression that anything is missing. If you’re a fan of leather and vanilla, this one is a great option – especially for colder days and nights. The bottle also presents itself in a sleek and simplistic manner, which I find to be very fitting.

I've been a fan of the Elie Saab exclusive line for a number of years but I've always ignored the Cuirs collection because it highlights leather, a note that very rarely appeals to me. I finally decided to get a bottle of Cuir Bourbon, thinking it was the safest bet among the three. At first whiff, my eyes jolted open as it felt like someone had slapped me across the face with a leather belt. Not soft suede, but like raw leather, unprocessed, fresh out of a tannery or something. It was disappointing because this is exactly the kind of leather that I dislike in fragrances and I was ready to write it off as another blind buy gone wrong. Thankfully, I'd sprayed it on my skin because otherwise, the genius of Francis Kurkdjian might have eluded me in my haste. The leather subsides significantly, to the point where it is mostly confined to the background, peeking through as a more refined, soft suede. Once this happened the smoky, saffron-spiced woodiness that is interlaced with a subtle boozy vanilla was revealed. The vanilla, as mentioned before, is a very realistic vanilla pod, one that I associate with food and was therefore never into, but here, mixed with this particular blend of notes, is magical to my nose. It is strongest in the dry down and even though it is one of the star players here, it is made infinitely more interesting because of the other notes and well, some FK sorcery. Don't be hasty and judge this one as this nonlinear beauty takes a few minutes to bloom and is addictive in the best way possible.

What can I say ? One of the best vanilla scent evveeer .to describe it.it smells like a mature vanilla pod👌🏻Very classy ,attractive and sexy vanilla in a mysterious way the suede here plays a leading role .love love love ❤️

This is a sweet leather fragrance with slight whisky and a lot of vanilla. sweet soft tender and sued like fragrance rather than leather. When it calms it goes tender vanilla all the way.
