Cuir Patchouli

You really need to love patch to warm to this beauty. Patch can come across as quite a cool damp note (Serge Luten Borneo) but this has been lightly warmed up and sweetened with amber and cinnamon. I do get a good dose of leather but patch is king here. The sweetness is apparent for the first half hour. Perfectly unisex and of course it has good longevity and sillage even in this cold room. The patch and leather start to become more prominent after half an hour. Patch and leather remain rulers to the end with the leather the last note to remain. The bergamot seems more evident now which seems a bit curious being a top note. It might be the sweet amber eases off and allows it in. After half an hour or so there is some similarity with Serge Lutens Borneo for which I am very grateful. There is even a dark chocolate aspect to this. I was not sure what to do once my Borneo decant had gone. Apparently it is still in production but it's longevity is not good. Not the most unique mix of notes but it's clearly made by a Master. It oozes class and sophistication. I'm glad I have it in my collection.

Just got this blind buy and I'm surprised that no one has noticed its similarity to Coromandel CHANEL. The opening is nearly a dead ringer, at least to my edt version of Coromandel, which I purchased in early 2010. It dries down to an ambery patchouli mix, with a suede (as opposed to leather) note definitely there but not dominant. And yes, it feels a little chocolate-y all around. Longevity is okay. I'll wear it when I'm in the mood for Coromandel but don't want to use it. It's quite good on its own two feet anyway.

I love this perfume, I have my name carved on it, I remember I bought it when I was 19... I always had a thing for heavy perfumes. it's considered a heavy perfume, (but not as heavy as in Nah) the heavy classy unique perfume... I like to wear it on special events/nights...

Elie Saab Cuir Patchouli (2016) - Mossy Leather - #franciskurkdjian creates this perfume that resembles a dark and mossy Forest while wearing that beautiful well-worn leather jacket. I also get baking spices and amber resins in the drydown. Balance and transparency is similar to a Lutens or Chanel exclusives.

Interesting leather patchouli scent, which turns more into a patchouli perfume the longer I wear it. I’m also picking up something synthetic and balsamic in the base, which might sound like I don’t like it but I do. This base is similar to Grand Soir, an obvious nod to a familiar Francis Kurkdjian signature.

Patch+patch+patch= Saab Cuir Patchouli. This is all about patchouli and a warm cinnamon (the leather is just a ghost here). A deep, earthy (but not dirty), chocolat-ey patchouli, with a very oily feeling, with even a hint of barnyard in the background (just a hint!). Despite the patchouli ususally being considered a masculine note, here it's unisex, thank to the strong support of cinnamon, and a noticeable vanilla (sold for "amber"). Unfortunately the bergamot note is unnoticeable, and does not manage to bring the necessary hint of freshness to balance the other sweet/oily notes. Average performance, but that may be a good thing here, since it would result cloying otherwise (and may anyways, if oversprayed). Should you not be a fan of patchouli, and looking for a leather fragrance (the category I am part of), look elsewhere, especially at that - not so cheap - price point, even at discounters. On the other side, should you be looking for a very sweet and oily patchouli, in the same vein as Lutens Borneo 1834 it's probably worth it. (Borneo 1834 is a step higher in terms of blending, but also now 3 times more expensive... your call!) As far as I'm concerned, I will stick to L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme EdP, which -imho- is better balanced thanks to lemon and anise notes, and currently costs half the price. (and is nearly unisex, despite the labelling "for man". The EdT is definitely masculine though). Cold evenings, women 20+, men 30+ Edit: gave it another chance. Extremely chocolat-ey and oily/buttery. Missed the elegance path for one step. Cloying cinnamon. Had to scrub it off. Not my alley. (But SL Borneo 1834 isn't either).

Of course I've heard that for some fragrances, you have to spray directly on the skin to feel the magic, but this is the first time its ever really happened to me. I blind bought Cuir Patchouli from a bogo since its discontinued. I sprayed it on a test strip when I got it and said, "oh no, this is too dame leathery". I was really going to let it go, but then I sprayed it on my skin and that heavy leather scent completely dissipated when it touched my skin and took a few secs to dry down. Now I LOVE this. Its now more of a fresher, sweet, patchouli smelling, mildly spicy leather and its just perfect. Just a few sprays gets you long lasting, moderate projection. Very original frag in my collection, not letting it go.

This is Patchouli, patchouli, and more patchouli with slight lime and citrus and abit of cinnamon to change the harshness of the medicinal patchouli. This is for the patchouli lovers. I never thought that Elie was that clever to hire Francis to create this line. Francis is good in differentiating the niche from commercial, and he found a way to create a bridge in between to introduce art in the form of commercial. Good job Elie, ta3jebny 9ara7a :)

This stuff is gorgeous: off the top, rich, golden patchouli with emerging animalic tones - the cuir is animalic rather than handbag ;). Bit like the cuir in PG Cuir d'Iris. Switches quickly back to patchouli with musky undertones. I only get the cinnamon after this. Wears much more elegantly than it sounds. This isn't head shop patchouli a la Reminiscence.

I do NOT understand the Review that didn't get *this* Leather! This is a ONE Spray BEAST of an Insane Leathery Patchouli. For me the *Chocolate* is in the background to settle & smooth this out. Love it! I am going to wear it a few days (only one spray), that's all you need for sure. Def getting your money's worth. I'll be back to update.

Very well done but it’s pretty much identical to Zino Davidoff in the drydown.
