Essence No. 10 Amande Tonka

Amande Tonka is in my opinion a masterpiece, by Francis Kurkdjian (I believe all of the fragrances from this line up are his creations). Some reviews have described this as slightly masculine and honestly, the only part of this fragrance that leans in that direction, if at all, is the opening but it is very fleeting, only lasting for about 5-10 minutes, after which it is squarely unisex to me. The almond note here is like marzipan but mixed with the most beautiful rendition of tonka. Tonka for me can sometimes become very powdery which, I don't care for but not here! Here, it is THE most delicious chocolate-y vanillic and slightly cinammon-y magical note. There is also a smooth creaminess, I believe from the sandalwood. So to my nose, this is just a gorgeous, creamy, chocolate marzipan with a woody finish to it. I know my description makes it sound very gourmand and that is doing this fragrance an injustice, I am afraid because while there are very strong gourmand facets to it, to me this fragrance is unique because there is a quality about it that elevates it beyond being just a classic gourmand. I do find it quite similar to Feve Delicieuse from Christian Dior but Feve is more powdery and strangely, softer on me whereas Amande Tonka is deeper, darker and richer to my nose. The performance on this is above average, lasting about 6-8 hrs and projection is moderate. This is a complete love for me and one that shot up into my lifers almost instantly, I just can't get enough of it! Highly recommend!

There is only a tiny resemblance to Feve Delicieuse as this is not as sweet, strong or with as big a sillage. This is a very grown up, almost reserved tonka and almond scent. It has a little sweetness and smells natural. I think the fresh amyris note adds an edge and prevents too much sweetness. It would be great on man or woman. The Tonka dominates closely followed by the nuttiness off the almond. It settles and you become very aware of the dusty sandalwood backed by a little amyris. Curiously after an hour or two it seems more sweet. The more I wear it the more I love it. I smell classy and expensive. I get low to moderate sillage but it hangs around for a good few hours.

Love Love Love! Blind bought this whilst it was on sale, with the intention of layering it with other scents. I knew I liked tonka in my perfumes, but I was completely taken aback after spraying this. It's rich, warm, sweet (not too much) and creamy. The almond note in this is just so good, it completes the fragrance perfectly. I can't get enough of it - smells like the best baked dessert. Such a cosy scent, it wears very close to the skin, so it's great for those jumper days and duvet days. Any gourmand lovers who see this going for a good price, get it. you wont regret that you did!

My goodness this scent is amazing, this is not your typical Almond - Tonka sweet bomb combo. This is blended to perfection, the tonka is really high quality, the almond gives it sligthly more bitterness but still remains sweet to the point that it isn t overboard, the sandalwood adds some creaminess and the Amyris a little more depth and the drydown gets a slight cinnamon feel, performance is through the roof, 10/10

How is there no cinnamon listed in the notes above? The most prominent note in the dry down is most definitely cinnamon... Accompanied in a cosy way by soft almond and vanilla in an almost hot cross bun way. I can see why someone saw a resemblance to feve delicieuse but I think this might actually be nicer! Lovely for gourmand lovers. It is not sugary sweet.

The dry down is out of this world, nutty sweet tonka . So sexy & elegant ❤

High quality tonka, Over spray, sits close to the skin

- Blind buy. It's exactly what I was expecting and wanted. It has very low sillage, good longevity (>4 hours), and the scent is unisex, pleasant, and inoffensive. It's a skin scent. I don't think I could overspray this at all (it's actually possible to overspray, don't do it! lol). When I apply I first notice the bitter almond and a herbal notes, then it becomes syrupy tonka but not overly sweet. When it's dry it's powdery and woody with light almond and tonka in the background. I enjoy the subtle sweetness in this scent. The scent smells serious and refined, leans masculine in the opening but sweetens in time and leans gourmand. It's very nice when it dries, as there's almond with lots of creamy sandalwood. I think it would be nice to layer this with other scents. BOTTLE: These bottles are classy, modern, and fancy. They have magnetic caps. Never had a perfume bottle like this! Beware this line is for people who enjoy modest scents. Sillage and longevity are both low to moderate.

I have tried all of the Elie Saab Essence line except for three, and yesterday I had the pleasure of wearing this one for the first time, No. 10 Amanda Tonka. No. 10 is similar to others in this line; a smooth ride from start to finish. There's nothing particularly challenging about this perfume, no rough edges or sharp corners. Tonka is forward, then maybe almonds? I'm not familiar with scent of Amyris so I can’t comment on that note. No. 10 comes across as a weekend sweater weather scent. I like it quite a bit, but it's not a big love, and definitely not for the current out-of-production $120 plus price tag.

Smooth and beautiful but oh my goodness, too much almond kills the almond. Too MUCH!! Will wait till winter to see if I change my mind

A true beauty. On me it turns a bit male'ish. The Tonka is deep, warm and a bit sweet in good mix with soft Sandalwood and cosy Almond.

Oh my God! This is stunning! My best blind buy of 2021! Who knew a gourmand could be so sophisticated? This is intoxicating almond and tonka. Sweet but refined and perfectly unisex. I have to admit that I'm a bit weary of Tonka it can make things really foody/heavy. Here, it's a dream. And the almond! It's perfect! This house has great almond-forward scents. I wish FK would come out with something similar in his line because this is being discontinued and I'm sad at the idea of not being able to find this anymore. It's a masterpiece and I never use that word!

This is definitely very beautiful and unique high quality perfume . For me it’s all about the Tonka , so nice blended , Almonds are also there but in a very classy way ! I blind bought a bottle for a very high price and shared the Half of it and left 50 ml , but still thinking it’s too heavy for my so feminine taste , not sure if I will finally wear it .

I'm unable to jump on the tonka hype-train because it always smells like boozy baby powder on me. Amande Tonka is no exception, though the drydown has an interesting nutty depth I can appreciate- reminding me of Reminiscence Tonka, but more sophisticated. Soft projection and moderate performance.

Wow!! This one is creme de la creme, top of the top...after Dior Feve Delicieuse and Guerlain Tonka Imperiale this one is my number 3 tonka based fragrance! Very good balance of the notes, very niche tonka scent and very adictive! Love it so much but is very difficult to find it.
