Ambre Nomade

The first time I sprayed this, I knew it was going to be controversial. It is brass, and brazen, and unapologetic. At times, it begs you to dislike it. It is John Wilmot in King Charles' court. It challenges gender roles, and backhands homogenized gourmand trends and popularity contests. It thumbs at mainstream, and gloats at your confusion. Fresh herbs of sage, lavender and rosemary, converge with cedar and musk to elicit an aroma of smoky incense. Sticky, resinous labdanum and frankincense, sweetened appropriately with warm notes of ginger and apricot, are haunting. Powerful and beguiling, with just a touch of dusty expanse, makes the wearer feel utterly transported into a caravan skirting the edges of a remote desert. And despite the powerhouse introduction, the dry down's powder soft vanilla and sweet ylang-ylang, lulls you with its delicate embrace. I just can't help loving it! This is the type of perfume that makes you want to dance in the rain or join a coven. It is absolute magic!

Aromatic herbal top, dominated with Clary sage. An almost fresh baked bread-like quality is present for a bit in the mid with the deep vanilla, sweetened with jammy apricots. The drydown is the ruler of all vanilla fragrances for me. A decadent, sumptuous vanilla. It's perfection. I wear this all day, everyday, when the weather is slightly cool or cold. Edit: I purchased my bottle and it came with a personalized note, handwritten by the perfumer and 3 samples, which were all fantastic. 10/10 would recommend.

My initial thoughts after blind test: It’s super cosy and absolutely beautiful! Sweet and almost milky vanilla mixed with a nice (and very well balanced) spices and lots of warming incense. It’s definitely has some freshness in it as well as some dark twist, but it’s very round and it seems like it’s coming from one ingredient: something fresh and woods like a pine tree. an absolutely delicious embrace- the sage and the apricot peep through that lush amber layer and mmmmm....there’s no other scent like it. it completely disappears after 5 hours, though (even when applied to clothes and hair? how can this be extrait strength?!) edited to get add that i’m now noticing oolong tea in the dry-down, and love the fragrance even more.

Deeply intoxicating, lush, and alluring. The patchouli, apricot, and sage run circles around each other, teasingly inviting you closer and closer for a warm embrace of vanilla and amber accords. This juice absolutely sings off the skin like a gorgeous and tempting siren. A perfect fruity amber. 10/10

It’s far from what I imagined based on the note breakdown. Very sweet, slightly creamy, warm and intense — but there’s also a burnt pastry-like scent that’s hard to describe. I don’t sense any freshness here; it’s pure, concentrated vanilla combined with the resinous scent of labdanum, reminiscent of amber and leather. If a woman wears this, she’s definitely bold, daring, and mysterious. On a man, this scent feels passionate and sophisticated.

I used to have a Home Fragrance spray from L'Occitane that were called "Ambre". I kept that bottle for way over its expiration date, and one day I picked up the bottle and sprayed my entire bedroom with it. I shouldn't have done that. I really shouldn't have done that. Not did the fragrance itself made me nauseous, but that very same evening I contracted the freaking norovirus. So I was in bed, sick as a dog, and with a cloud of that expired room spray over my head. Not my finest moment. Anyhow - This perfume smells exactly like that room spray. Now is the right time to curse over the olfactory memory. Story time over.

The funny thing is, when I first looked at my sample of Ambre Nomade from Elisire, it was upside down and I misread it as Amber Malone-- and you know what, it smells like a fictional character named Amber Malone, so I am just going with that. This is not what I think of as a typical amber, that powdery balsamic resin. Amber Malone is amber by way of glorious golden ginger and intense, velvety patchouli vanilla, and an unexpected aromatic freshness from sage and lavender and apple. The first time I smelled Amber M. I caught a bit of a youthful-bordering-on-obnoxious-vanilla-apricot fruitiness with a tinge of darkness that made me think she was in high school in the 2002 and had one of those scene queen hairstyles and probably spent a lot of time in serial killer chatrooms. She had the vibe of a kid who was a bit of a loner and was obsessed with true crime novels and at first, I thought maybe she was corresponding with convicted murderers in prison, but I came to the conclusion that she had a good head on her shoulders and ended up going into forensics science and has a podcast where she talks about women’s complicated relationship with true crime. Later, when I tried Amber M. again, the opulent leathery, musky resinous labdanum note is present and I think she’s gotten a book deal to write some brilliant essays regarding true stories about how vicarious interests in violent crime transformed the lives of four women and that’s when I realized Amber Malone exists to some extent-- at least as far as writing this book--and her actual name is Rachel Monroe, and Savage Appetites is a great book and you should read it. Ambre Nomade speaks to me of savage appetites for truth, for curiosity, for passion and fascination, and indulging all of these things at every opportunity.

*Hard to find alert* I always steer clear away from any and all fragrances with the word "sport," with that being said, this could definitely be a sporty version of Chantecaille's Kalimantan given its citrusy aspects. Elisire is a amber fragrance(or patchouli depending on who you ask) with an aggressive sage, ginger and olibanum combo. The spices manages to subdue but not quite nullify the warm components of vanilla and labdanum. Throughout the duration is a orange peel nuance provided by the combination of the apricot and apple which serves as a superintendent to the entire composition. I've heard nothing but bad things about the other Elisire fragrances but i can assure you that this one is the Real Deal Holyfield. A perfect amber for those seeking something different from the genre. On a side note: The bottle lovers will be smitten to know that Ambre Nomade is a photographer's dream.

Well, no. Goes on a nasty combination of gingered fruits that gets right up the nose. It rapidly settles to a powdery spiced vanilla, more like a super-spiced vanilla incense with a marked resinous olibanum base, but retains the gingery fruits enough that it smells very perfume-y to me. Ultimate dry down is a lovely ice cream vanilla amber, but I’m not sure about that very loud start. I wasn't sure if I liked it or hated it for a few hours, but then couldn't bear it anymore and I tried to scrub it. I tried to scrub all day long, used deodorant over it, hand soap, dish soap, OMG, nothing kills this! It’s unreal. The ginger is just not a good note for me and it’s pervasive and so LOUD, even when I can hardly smell the stuff without my hand near my nose. That being said, I could smell it all day long whether I will or no. Argh. So, no. Big no.

Spicy, intense, sexy, mysterious, incense-y, magickal. If you like any or all of the above you will love this fragrance. This is not for every day..but for those occasions when you really want to be mysterious and bewitching. I'm not note-worthy but I know what I like, and I like a perfume that smells like burning incense...not every day but for when I am in the mood this one really fills the bill. It's strong on the delivery but the sillage is weak. Re application is necessary on me. It only lasts a couple of hours if even that long. Otherwise the dry down is soft and feminine. My search for the perfect incense inspired perfume has ended :)

I'm no expert, so just giving my feelings about this fragrance. It's winter time, and I am loving this one. Kind of like an incense with tea, and some deeper note that really works with cooler weather. As I am wearing it, I am thinking of evening, curling up with a snuggly throw, a good cup of tea and a great book, or old black and white suspense movie, or of course, snuggling with my hubby. I think it's perfect unisex fragrance. Sadly, it's not really long lasting. Edited to add that - to me ... the tea fragrance is that of Lipton Persian Earl Grey. That lasts about 10 mins or so, then settles into a more incense smell.

I had very high hopes for this fragrance and I stuck with it for a while hoping it would grow on me. Sadly, it has not. I don't hate it, and will continue using it until my bottle is emptied - but to me, it's a fragrance that ultimately goes nowhere. Like another reviewer said, it is strong on delivery but sillage is weak. It doesn't quite bring out images of traversing the desert, of incense and of an elixer. Ambre Nomade in my opinion is good on its vanilla formulation but not that great on any of its other notes. Disappointing, but the bottle is of course the collector's dream.

Ambre Nomade is a snuggly herbal amber. Labdanum bomb, like a true amber, with some green aspects coming through - strong patchouli (almost like cannabis), sage, rosemary - I smell all of these. Fruity dried apricot is here as well. It lasts forever, and just envelops you, even with just a few drops around your neck. You've probably smelled an amber like this before, dense, sticky, but not sugary sweet. This is a good one, though, in terms of lasting power. An amber for amber lovers.

A more powerful mix than the other Elisire perfumes I've tried. Bold, sweet amber, herbal/spicy aromatics, and nectary apricot. It's amber, but I think the apricot, ginger and herbs prevent it from being too sweet, too simple.

Sage and Labdanum bomb! Has a similar herbal quality like serge lutens ambre sultan. The serge lutens is cheaper so I'd go for that! Definitely redundant to own both unless you are an amber lover
