Red Door Limited Edition

Finally the stores around me have this but it is on huge discount unfortunately it was a flop and didn't interest the younger generation because it isn't fashionable like Jimmy Choo or Marc Jacobs and those that still wear it from the older generation can get it dirt cheap at chemist warehouse so they didn't bother with this edition or so I am told in every store that I ask about it. When it first was released in the chemists near me they tried to sell it for mega bucks but it wound up on stands out the front for half the price because I think people are just confused by it and the sales assistants never are any help they don't like it and don't bother to research it so if you are a customer who may have been interested you just get a half hearted reply from the sales people "Oh I think it's the old one" or "I have no idea" "I didn't realise we still sold that stuff where did you see it?" etc. They can't wait to thrust Jimmy Choo's new perfume in your face or they ask if you have tried the new Daisy by Marc Jacobs and gush that they all love it I must try it and so the useless merry go round continues. When they don't have a tester and it's in the box the real confusion starts I can tell the new one because the picture on the box is of a red door and a model whereas the old one is just a red box with red door in gold on the front but of course these sales assistants try to tell you it's still the old one. SO this one at least where I live has made a huge nose dive so I got a bottle because the bottle is very pretty unlike the previous version which looks to me cheap and boring and doesn't entice you to want to spray it and I had given up trying to get a straight answer as to what the heck it was amongst the strange glares the sales assistants give me when they ask me "You wear Red Door? really I thought that was an old granny perfume we get all the old ladies buying it because it is cheap." or "I didn't think they even made that horrid stuff anymore." And the rude comments continue to which stage I have given up and just politely say "Thanks for your help." I have worn this several times and it is different from the original. It dries to a toilet spray smell and rather chemical smelling. The original didn't do this. All these old style perfumes are big hitters and punch above their weight and so when companies dilute them or use sub standard ingredients they wind up drying down to an awful chemical odour and vanish within an hour and this one is no different. I even tried this as room spray and yes it does smell like the original for a little while and I would say it is a bit more fruity and a little fresher but again, when I return some time later to the room I sprayed it, there is that toilet spray smell again something stale lingering in the air. Very disappointed would have loved the new bottle to add to a permanent collection but they have ruined this one for me personally anyway. I am sure there will be people who love it I say if you like the original or you are very familiar with it eventually you will sniff out the imposter in this bottle that is if you can find it or work out what you are buying to begin with.:)

Elizabeth Arden Red Door has really grown on me! I don't remember anyone I knew wearing the fragrance back in 1989 when I was in college; Poison, Paris, Giorgio, Obsession, and Knowing, yes, but Red Door, no. So I don't have any memories associated with it that would influence me in one way or another. Several years ago, when I picked it up at a discount store, I remember instantly hating it so I gave it to a fragrance-loving friend of mine who was not put off and decided to give it a go. Fast-forward several years and there I was again at the discount store! In the meantime, I'd given several heavy 80's fragrances that I had NOT liked at the time, a whirl: Obsession (I'm still a bit meh! about it, but now that I know Jicky and Shalimar I appreciate it so much more), Giorgio (I also understand that one more, too, now that I know about Piguet's Fracas, but I do NOT like Giorgio nonetheless due to a sharp, suffocating quality). So, I figured it was time to try Red Door again. Often, if I can figure out what it's related to in fragrance history, I can at least start to understand what it's trying to do. I have a decent-sized perfume collection (designer-based, though, not niche, due to the cost!), with examples representative of all the scent groups. What I try to do is locate a perfume in its family or subcategory by shared notes, so that perfume cousins are sitting next to each other on the shelf. But while I have many strong-smelling, old-timey concoctions (Knowing, Magie Noire, Azuree, Aromatics Elixir, Ciara, Shalimar, White Diamonds, Chanel No. 5, etc.), Red Door doesn't really resemble any of these. Thank goodness for the Fragrantica hive mind is all I have to say! A few folks noted Red Door's similarity to D&G "Red Cap" (which I have as yet to smell) and JacquieDS likened Red Door to an inexpensive/beer-budget version of Dior Poison (which I have to revisit, too!). The thing that kept drawing me back to Red Door was this "dark honeyed rose" description... I love roses and I love honey! Red Door does smell like a fruity, thick, honeyed, dark red rose. It has a sweet & sour, almost bitter smell simultaneously, which attracts me now, though it repelled me before -- almost an overripe rose hips/fruit smell. When I looked up some of the notes, I also noticed that ylang-ylang can produce a sour/woody/dirty note, which might also contribute to that sour effect. It dries down to a kind of rosy/ambery whisper, 3-4 hours later (pretty big sillage but not amazing longevity: it's a cheapie!). I love Red Door now! Incidentally, another SUPER cheapie, Charlie Red, does resemble Red Door but without the thick sweet & sour, overripe roses and rosehip darkness and ambery drydown; it's like Red Door lite. You may as well just get Red Door. I really love Red Door now but am still in search of a sister or cousin scent that's doing something similar to Red Door. Now I need to check out D&G "Red Cap" and Dior Poison...

sniff it on the dept.store, first impression was way too strong and little bit like cat pee because the sales girl sprayed it twice on a paper. but my mind keep telling me to keep it! you will be back to sniff it again ! and I kept it on my Bag. 2 days after I opened my bag and found this strip paper of Red Door and it's smell amazingly classic just like shopisticated women on night social gathering with her backless black dress, simple balerina updo,gold earring, red lipstick, thick eyelashes, daring smile and a glass of champagne on her hand and welcoming every guests with her top class manners. could be Madonna, Jennifer Lawrence, Cher, Diane Lane, Eva Longoria, Cheryl Cole, Penelope Cruz, or even Anne Hathaway. so then I decide to buy it via online. sometimes some perfumes need to be very perfumey because the way it is. not a barely floral or fruity or boring vanilla cake. the shynthetic ingredient made it fabulous as natural ingredients gave natural scent, right? If you want everybody sniff behind your back, wear this, don't be shy. it's like aroma therapy that gives you a feeling like you have all that money to buy high end dresses and jeweleries from Chanel or Dior. Yes..smell like expensive product.

Despite calling this 'Limited Edition', it's pretty obvious by now that this is the new Red Door. It does smell like the original in the bottle. There is no doubt that this is Red Door, and could be mistaken for none other. BUT. Due to its reformulation, my mother gave me the 100ml bottle of the new Red Door, which was more than half full, because the loss in longevity and sillage on her disappointed her to the point she's searching for a new signature scent. And so, here I am with the new Red Door, and I am totally satisfied with how it smells on me. The old Red Door for some reason, seemed to die and rot the moment it hit my skin, turning it into a car air freshener that was as weak as water, where it was so potent on my mother it was like a whole other entity. THAT was what I loved about it. On her. I wanted what she had, because it was divine, strong, and powerful, like my mother. But on my skin, the new Red Door blooms into everything strong, honeyed, rosy, woody and thick that I loved about the original on my mother, but couldn't achieve on myself. With reformulation, our roles have reversed. A Red Door will always have a place in my collection now.

Absolutely gorgeous and sensual perfume! It's very feminine, powerful, akin to a bouquet of flowers. My bottle is the EDT with the clear top so I'm reviewing that version. Violets, carnation, and deep red rose dominate the opening which is an extremely powerful blast of florals. It's very strong so one or two spritzes goes a long way: any more and I get a headache. It's definitely too strong for the office but is ideal for romantic evenings, cool days, and autumn to winter. Red Door has very retro-vintage vibes. It was very popular in the early 90s and I remember catching the scent of it on my alma mater's campus at the time but not knowing the gorgeous floral scent was Red Door. It reminds me of cool, windy days as a student in the 90's browsing through books in new age stores as rose incense smoke swirled around. The rose, ylang-ylang, and jasmine remain the most prominent notes for me throughout although they turn powdery and soapy in the dry down which gives it an older, mature woman vibe. It's classy and sophisticated, ideal for a romantic date wearing or for curling up with a good book by the fireplace on a cold evening.

Growing up as a teen in the 90's this is THE ultimate glamor of fragrance (OK, maybe along with Giorgio's Red, which my much older blond, buxom and tanned house mate used to wear). I used to wander gleaming department stores thinking when I'd be mature/elegant/glamorous enough to wear it... Fast forward almost 20 years later, I finally got myself a 100ml bottle... Yes, why 20 years later? I know the old adage of not judging a book by its cover but the old packaging with the red semicircle cap always put me off. This new bottle is sleek, red, really red and the scent is just as potent, just two or three sprays will do. I could finally channel the likes of Arden's spokespersons Vendela Kirsebom or Amber Valleta whom I used to admire in the pages of glossies, and this time I could finally be wearing it with red, with black satin gown and diamonds, pearls, the heels... the works!

This perfume is a strong one.. The sillage and longevity is enormous. But some will love it or some will hate it!.. I recieve a compliment and also a disappointment to this perfume. Some says its smells so elegant but some says its smells like a horrible honey with a strong plastic scents.. One of my friend says i smells like formaline that it makes me embarassed a little lol.? But other says.. Its mature and sexy. I love and hate it. It has a lot of weird scents specially tht strong plastic smell.. So everytime i wear it. I use another perfume to kill tht plastic scents.. Sometimes it makes me dizzy and headache. Its similar to the red door original with a plastic scents.. I prefer to use red door original than this.. What i love in this perfume is the bottle. Tht red dorr shape with a golden lid!! So i recommend this one to a mature woman who can handle a strong scents.

I got this in a mini set, and at first I didn’t like it. I’m not even sure how to explain why. But I sprayed some on a couple different times to try to like it since I already had it. One evening I put it on, and it just clicked. I love it now. In fact, if I didn’t have all my perfumes and only had funds for one, this would be a contender. And although this is an older fragrance that possibly our grandma’s wore as their signature, I think it’s just as lovely today for a signature scent for anyone who loves white florals. I smell mostly the jasmine Mixed with a touch of the ylang ylang. There is a slight sweetness from the honey, but it’s not an obvious honey smell. When I finish my mini, this probably will go on the want list for a future full bottle. This is a strong scent that needs a light hand and lasts a long time.

I agree with Fabianabruna review down here...this is D&G red cap style! It ́s for me a wonderful mist of flowery aldehydes with a soapy honey lush ... I smelled it today and it ́s soooo chic, adult, noble, classy and assertive. But this is the scent of:"love or hate me". As a result, I would never wear it in the Office, for example; this can ruin a Meeting. But I would easily wear it during a cold autumn/winter day, or in a fancy dinner or formal evening occasion, completed dressy, with jewels and with a super make. If you love D&G red cap style, and you can ́t find it anymore, go for this Beauty; it ́s the same vibe. For my taste, this is better, more modern and wearable than the 1rst Version, keeping ist DNA. Super perfume Arden...Congrats!

My Girlfriend brought in some of her sample perfumes for me to try, one of them being Red Door. I put a little on my wrist and was overcome by the strong smell to start with and hoped it would change, It did after about (45 - 60 mins) it died down to a adorable Woody/Powdery and spicy scent. I did not expect it to shape into scent that I was longingly looking for. The next thing I needed was for the scent to last well over 8 hours, and I have to admit it lasted over 12 hours, which my wrist still held a mild scent. Perfect, a deep rich sensual aroma that would last. I have always loved sandalwood and this really hits the nail on the head for me. Thank you for Red Door - there is a bottle on his way to my door.

I had almost forgot just how beautiful this floral fragrance is until the reformulated version came out this year. I was delighted to see Red Door being promoted again, & had to try it for old times sake (I often bought the original for my mom). This version is very similar to the original (thank goodness), & just as beautiful, bold, & in your face with attitude. As gorgeous as it is, the silage can be intense, so a light hand should be used when applying. Longevity is amazing, I tried just a few drops on my hand & it lasted all day. This scent can be ruined when over applied, so I cannot stress it enough to only use a small amount in order to truly enjoy this beauty.

I got the one with the clear lid, the 30 ml EDT bottle. That little bottle is so so cute! The scent is a lively sweet sharp honey jasmine (violet too?). just 2 spritz are enough, because it's strong, but i like it that way. more creamy than powdery vibe (at least on me). timeless scent to me, so, i don't called it granny or retro, it's just classic. very lovely, it lingers and lingers... i feel it embracing me. I'm very pleasantly surprised!

Many people said this fragrance is INSANE. It feels like an incense and musty. The overall projection is crazy and super heady. It may offend to the office once entering to the meeting room , people will automatically notice you. So do not wear if you are unsure of glare eyes and dusty smell 90's like. Do wear it once you need more attention from anyone. It is literally "aunty perfume" in my humble opinion but it is worth every penny counts!

I am confused by this. When I went to the Arden counter in Myer in Australia, they had never heard of it and the saleswomen said oh no we haven't made red door in years it is too outdated! I wanted to try this. So, I am wondering if it is different from the original or the same because the info on here says it's the same but a reviewer says it is different? Also the stores have never heard of it and have no intention of selling it?

I simply love this perfume. Sezy and classic, very elegant and it make a statement "I've arrived". But a little spritz goes a long way and it's very long lasting. It's floral sroma gives away the sexyness within and feminality but you feel the woody scent just behind it to give it an elegant classic boost. Recommendnit fo those you like smoothly woody perfumes but with a floral taste to it.

One of the most beautiful linden flowers smell (even they are not listed). Classy, rosy, sweet and powdery for an adult woman, with a great longevity and sillage for an EDT. The scent that made someone fall in love with the woman who wore this essence ( me :D ) without knowing her, just feeling the smell in the crowd.

Oh, Red Door! My dear, sweet love. Thank god i found you now lighter and wearable. Welcome into my life again. Won't let you go never ever again. I have 30ml already, but i also bought a biggest bottle there is.

I think you either love this stuff or you hate it. I personally love it! It's very sexy and unique in my opinion. But I do admit it is VERY powerful and you only need a tiny bit or else you may get a headache.

omg! that's one of the sexiest perfumes ever... it kinda reminds me of Amarige Givenchy, and Giordani Gold by Oriflame (first vintage version)

The smell reminds me of white diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor . This kind of perfume is meant to be for older ladies!!!!.

Red Door Limited Edition by Elizabeth Arden is not a perfume a young woman like Vanessa would most likely find appealing. It is a little to grown up for ladies under thirty with young noses still enamored of the sweet and yummy smells of the recently abandoned teen years. That is of course unless they have a nose for something more sophisticated than the hot house fruity florals or candied confections that are all the rage these days. And how does a young woman expand her horizons in a world drowning in Floriantals and exploding cotton candy machines? As in our story sometimes a young lady needs the counsel of an older woman of the world, someone with experience who can open that Red Door of possibilities to a wider world of Yes. I have wanted to try this perfume and see what it is all about for some time. I have smelled the “original” and found it to be interesting and lovely, so when I came across a 30mil bottle of Red Door Limited for twenty dollars I thought why not? I was very pleasantly surprised at what was in this little red bottle. This is a new take on the old classic, a tiny bit more modern without loosing the sophisticated allure of a really elegant perfume. It is a bouquet of red roses wrapped in rich creamy satin tied with a velvet ribbon. It opens with a shimmery and sparking bell notes of lily of the valley. The lily is followed by a dash of peppery freesia blended into a purple tinged green haze of violets. This is an elegant and inviting opening of promises made in midnight misty gardens. The promise made is sealed with a warm deep kiss of Roses whose petals are brushed ever so lightly with honey. Never too sweet the honey rises like burnished gold from the base notes to titillate and make hungry where most it satisfies as it falls from the rose petals to the notes below. African Orange flowers, Ylang-Ylang, and jasmine are the three sisters who benefit from the marriage of the rose and the honey. As it dies down into its dry down it becomes something more intimate in feeling, there is the scent of expensive body powder and that rich warm yummy smell of pancake make-up. That wonderful scent must come from the meeting of creamy sandalwood, Oakmoss and the honey. It is a real find for those in the market for something with more of a classy, classic feel to it. And unlike the more watery roses and lilies that fell into the jam jar it lasts a very long time. You will get millage on this one, eight to twelve hours at least. The sillage is impressive, like a great ocean liner moving languorously though the sea with a gently widening wake behind, people will notice you as you pass. And after all, great ocean liners and elegant ladies engender great admiration. Three cheers of Red Door Limited Edition and all who wear her. Here is a perfume with many seasonal faces. The first half hour, my husband says it reminds him of a Christmas candle. I totally get that. You know, those red candles that smell slightly of sweet cinnamon and pine. So most people associate that with wintertime. After that half hour, the middle becomes a bouquet of blooming roses which most would think spring. I'm not sure how this would smell in the summer, but fall would be a good time to wear this too since it reminds me slightly of the cinnamon in apple cider. I do smell the honey but more so upon the first few minutes of spraying. I'm not sure what the original smells like but I think a very long time ago, I dismissed it before my perfume loving days for whatever reasons. I can't compare this reformulation, but I like it. As many have advised, spray lightly, especially if you're daring enough to wear it to the office. I have seen lots of comments mentioning this to be an old school perfume. I wouldn't say it like that. I would say it's not for a nose that hasn't been too open to experience varieties.

Red Door LE smells like the best of the 80s grand dames condensed into an affordable elixir. It has the dense, decadent honey from Poison, the heady, radiant jasmine and golden, fruity ylang, of Samsara, and the sparkling fairy-garden-esque floral bouquet of Amarige (okay, that one is not 80s- but it has the same spirit). Red Door LE does lack the mustiness many 80s perfumes has, but retains the boldness characteristic of that era. While it does resemble these other perfumes, it does not feel like it just copied them; Red Door LE is its own. I don't quite love it, as it does smell a little dated, but with all the rich fragrance it brings to the table, Red Door LE will remain my guilty pleasure. I like it much better than regular Red Door, which smells dated with it's overcharged carnation-tuberose and lacks the redeeming qualities of LE.

My mom wore this in the 90s and I'd occasionally steal a couple of spritzes, as it was a big departure from Estee Lauder's Pleasures, which I wore at the time. I recently received a bottle as a gift from my children and it's just not the same as I remember, although time has a way of doing that. The perfume smells very sweet and almost grape-soda like to me. I like the smell and I spritz it in the air as room freshener but I'll have to let the scent mature some and see if I can grow into it. Too fruity for me right now.

I absolutely love Red Door!!!!!! It was my signature scent for years! I buy a lot of other brands now, but I’ll always have Red Door in my rotation. This is my number one all-time complement getting fragrance! There’s nothing else like it. It’s just a beautiful scent. I hate it when people use the term old lady perfume because my grandma wore Chanel number five on the other rotated between multiple Lancôme fragrances. I love Red Door!!!

This is nice, but a bit dated. The opening is intensely white floral, with big sillage. Later, it turns very powdery and a bit soapy. That is the part that i don’t really like. After 3 hours or so, i get a sweet smell, but the powder is still there. If it weren‘t so powdery, it would smell more modern. Anyway, it is a quality fragrance and if you like powdery white florals, a safe blind buy.

This fragrance was launched in the year that I was born, so whenever I use it now I remember my childhood years and that is probably cause a lot of adults were wearing this around me when I was a kid. It is such a comforting and nostalgic scent, the warmth of the honey and the power of the rose. Exceptionally beautiful, powerful and longlasting. Will forever stay in my memory.

It is a powdery floral that opens with oakmoss and violets on me. Clean and lyrical. It wears like mainly glorious, powdery violets gently enhanced with other flowers. I can imagine it being someones everyday scent. With time it gets deeper and sweeter. Ylang and honey. In the drydown it reminds me of Volupte by Oscar de la Renta.

Red door is one of my mom's fragrances.. I've always appreciated this beauty... To me Red door is a piece of art.. It's one of the most beautiful scents I've ever smelt.. It's sultry & warm. Im wearing it since afternoon and im still Getting beautiful wafts.. Longevity is heavenly 8+

Just not the same as the old bottle (original juice). I feel this one is slightly sweeter and missing the ylang-ylang tangy sweetness and powdery honey. I just don't want to wear this one, I am tracking down all of the old bottles whilst I still can!

This was my first real perfume. My mom bought it for me when I was about 16. She said “everyone used to wear red door”, “you need a bottle of red door” lol I threw that bottle away last year, because it was over 10 years old. I may buy a new one.

This perfume is very nice. I really enjoy the powdery note that stands out most on me. This fragrance has a very comferting scent but sexy at the same time. I like how it smells and mixes with my chemistry. Good jod Elizabeth!!!!!!

My mom have this. Its been 5 years my mom kept using it. This frag is for a sensual women 30yrs and above, it's not for the younger generation. The floral and oriental notes are balanced making it great, rose was noticeable.

am wearing it now .. and i must say my first impression was horrible, but later on am beginning to like the much calmer and softer scent its giving out... definitely a good buy.

Is it only me, or anyone else felt DG for her red cap?! Its a little more more of an "old" fragrance but its very interesting if you like that kind of vintage smell!

It's ok/good but I understand how it doesn't suit everyone. I felt it was a bit spicy... And powdery. If you want to wear it often, one spray is enough.

This immediately gives 80s vibes, and is a mature, worldly-wise feminine scent. Confused because it has a handful of notes that I consider my favorites such as jasmine, African orange flower, Lily-of-the-valley and freesia, but I'm unable to pick them out. Instead, I get something that's mixed altogether to come up with something totally jarring to my nose. Not exactly loving it because of the strong scent, but strangely it has my respect. I own a small bottle of this and from time to time I spray it on sparingly (overspraying this is a huge no-no), hoping to sniff the "sweet spot" the lovers of this fragrance get so I can also experience it.

This was introduced, when I asked "something a little bit more classical". I loved it right away. Fine strong lovely flowery perfume. Heavy it is - very heavy EdT. A simplisity... but not far from perfect. In small dose the perfume is very fine and beautiful. I don't know if I have the "Limited Edition" or just a normal Red Door. My bottle looks like this one that we are looking at now. May be just the normal RD after all...

I will keep this for the drydown and flacon appearance. Initial moment from first spray is a beautiful red rose that's almost candied with red berries, perhaps the freesia. Also, the honey is so real. After 30 seconds the oak moss takes over for 2 hours. It stays the strongest notes for me for this stage. Interesting how it's release was not many years ago, yet, this oak moss feels vintage. I have/had several vintages in my time. This oak moss is reminiscent of 1980's style. It gives this perfume the heavy sillage it has until drydown. I'm suprised it is voted down so low on the votes according to members above. After the drydown frees itself from the heavy oak moss,it gives way to a hint of old school pancake pressed powder, ylang and honeyed rose. Not as much freesia. It becomes a good and light drydown on skin despite the intense sillage upon the first few hours. Sprayed on clohing is another story. My laundry hamper permeated of heavy oak moss for over a week due to a blouse lying within it. Do take the warnings seriously to spray lightly. The first time i sprayed this, i applied behind neck, the elbow-pulse points and my bust. Talk about headache that day! It's times like that which have led me sticking to summer aquatics for enough days until i recover from olfactory overload. Like trying to hit a reset button.

I tested Red Door today. I have in the past hated with a passion Red Door. I could smell it on someone in the same room as me and it would make me ill to the pit of my stomach. Seriously couldn't understand how anyone could wear this horrid smell. IN MY OPINION BEFORE ALL THE HATE MAIL COMES. Well today I noticed the different packaging. Instead of the arched Red lid it was a red door and I asked if it was the same or different. She told me that this one has changed (LONG STORY)????????? I tried it on card and I thought, yep I can give it a go. I tried it on my wrist and as much as I still don't like it, I don't have to scrub it off or run for the hills or a paper bag. It seems much more wearable. Less in your face. If what the sales lady says is true, either that or my nose has changed, which it has, but it has changed to like these types of fragrances less, not more, so to me it is toned down incredibly and has nothing to do with different packaging fooling people......seriously, were not that stup! Side by side they are DIFFERENT. WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT SKIN CHEMISTRIES SO TRY IT YOU NEVER KNOW AND IF YOU LOVE IT WEAR IT, WHO CARES IF SOMEONE ELSE DOESN'T LIKE IT, AS WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT NOSES AND LIKES AND DISLIKES. XOXOXOXO

I put it on to go to work and I came back to wash it off. I couldn't stand it. I felt an immediate headache. I don't know what is wrong with it. I detest the smell, I feel something very old and synthetic too. I guess the reformulation of the original destroyed everything.

Not bad at all, but too strong and overpowering. Very intensive honey and ylang-ylang note. I guess it would be nice for winter. With an oldschool twist, if you are looking for a great silage and longevity, try it.

It starts out with some sweet florals. Settles in and ends with pure honey. Sweeter than honey dare I say. Lasts 3-4 hours.

Yuck, I hated this fragrance. Way too sharp smelling for my liking. The bottle is pretty though.

Mistake even a penny paid for this.... very disappointing smell (cannot name it as scent)
