Diamonds and Rubies

My immediate first spray was one of distaste. And that distaste lasted all of three seconds. It immediately morphed into a delightful love of this fragrance. Diamonds and Rubies is a woman's scent, a fragrance of responsibility, a scent of headiness that tells the wearer and the person that gets a whiff that this is a woman who knows exactly who she is-a confident individual who is aware of her self and not afraid to take the World on around her. I have become a true fan of Sophia Grojsman's fragrances. At this point, I haven't found one that hasn't matched me. I am now searching for her scents deliberately. The initial spray hit me with peach and lilac and was surprisingly creamy and rich. The middle florals intertwined with a mix of spices and lingered for a good 30 minutes before the final drydown to the base which I find absolutely delightful. On me, it's a mix of musk, benzoin and vanilla. It does turn powdery at the end of its run on me, which is fine, many frags do. Every now and then, a hint of a floral seeps through and reminds me of the flowers in the mix. Diamonds and Rubies is more of a complex perfume than I ever imagined it could be. I believe it can be used year-round, anywhere, although it's not a go-to-bed snuggly perfume. It reminds me of a woman who enjoys her femininity, her makeup, her sensuality, using her wiles, using her choices. It embodies the essence of a woman. When I think of Diamonds and Rubies, I think of old-time Hollywood stars like Audrey Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Monroe, women who knew who they were and what they did and how they did it. They were comfortable in their own skin. They dressed for themselves because they were comfortable in themselves, and that's what this perfume is about. Being comfortable in yourself. I just wish the bottle was more reflective of the name. There should be faux Rubies added to the bottle, I think. If you can, spray some on to try. It's not a fragrance to try on a test strip. You cannot get the full effect on a piece of paper. Once you wear this for a few hours, you'll see how complex and delightful it really can be on your skin. Diamonds and Rubies might just release your inner beauty waiting to come out and shine.

I LOVE this fragrance! Oh Dear Liz, what have you done? You make a fool of everyone without being here or trying... and your fragrances are as your finest gemstones. It's called Rubies but if red velvet had a scent this would be it; just like soft, deep red velvet. Diamonds and Rubies is not a sparkly, bubbly champagne. It is a fine, red wine and by that I do not mean aged as for overall scent. I detect mostly cinnamon and clove rounded out and subdued by a beautiful powdery and elegant rose. There are good roses and bad roses in perfume. Diamonds and Rubies is a fine rose; the perfect rose subdued by rich, warm spices and premium silky powder. Rich, soft, classy, divine. I have no idea why some people connect powdery with being old. It makes no sense powdery perfume should be equated with "women over 40". What? Shall we add mothballs, musty 'ol attics and Depends Undergarments with that also? That entire concept is just silly and absurd. A beautiful smell has no age. Besides, babies wear powder but this is no scent for a baby, child or girl/woman. It is refined and sophisticated, incredibly soft and intensely gorgeous. D&R has a high quality essence to it which does not surprise me. So far, I have sampled five of Liz's fragrances and have been disappointed in none of them. There were two that did not make my favorites list but I would still wear. I cannot say they were bad. Liz knew what genuine glamour and quality was about and her fragrances attest to that. Her scents are almost as fine as the jewels she loved and as the first celebrity perfume "designer" she definitely knew what she was doing. I find it sad many younger noses of our current society are trained by current trends to think women should smell like Fruit Loops and Jolly Ranchers and if not the smell is "old" because it is not "now". It would be unfair and not nice to say fragrances which use candy and fruit as primary notes should be called "Love Tinkerbell" and recommended for those under forty. There is a term called "classic". Diamonds and Rubies is a gorgeous, delightful, sexy fragrance and it is a classic. Love it or hate it, it does fall into that rare, coveted category. Ok I got diamonds and emeralds and sent it back immediately it was so green and gross. This was the follow up to that purchase, but I didn’t like this either, so I said it in my back room and was prepared to sell it. Fast forward two months later, and it has matured into this beautiful, juicy peach perfume. Undertones of almond, vanilla, and powder are very very light and very very much in the background but it’s mostly peaches and light light florals that I can’t discern. Spray and set and forget for awhile, then revisit. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. It does have a lot of alcohol so if you empty the sprayer and set it on its side in a cool dark place it really grows up. Upon spraying on skin, Let that alcohol burn off for a sec before you take a whiff. Lasts days on a sweater. Projection is great for the first six hours, rolls off the skin and clothes. Then becomes a skin scent but does not disappear. My fave this spring with Shalimar edt. Edit and a story: I wasn’t specific what kind of peach. This is a syrupy carmelized peach, no green notes, no freshness. Smells very warm, the carnation is not too dusty like Guerlain LeHuere Bleu it just adds a smidge of power to the powder. The almond comes across as marzipan. This I think is gourmand but not too much, sweet and gets sweeter with time but not juvenile sweet. Story- seems to be loved by young and old alike, 17 and 70 year olds have been giving me compliments. Emptied the bottle, repurchased and She sprayed her wrists in the afternoon at work, then she told me it smelled up her shower in the evening and the next morning she simply must have a bottle. So I gave her my backup I was about to open, and she informed me she hadn’t purchased perfume in yeeeears because it had become too expensive. This would be her first in a long time. I told her this was $15 on jomashop or if you’re lucky, $15 at Ross. So it was no problem at all. I must say, this smells amazing on her, she does not layer perfumes so you know it is just Diamonds and Rubies. This projects in the most ladylike way. I know this was a yarn 🧶.

So soft, flowery, and powdery. I adore almond, heliotrope, rose, peach, sandalwood, and musk. I don’t get the spices others do, but this is so pretty that I don’t mind, much as I love spices. The opening is a lot to deal with, but 20 minutes later, it’s worth the wait. It just gets better the longer it’s on. It is definitely affected by weather. It’s rainy and cold today, and the rose is prominent as a clear, fresh, dewy rose, along with sweetness, which is very lovely. Now that I’m getting familiar with this, I find the longevity to be better than I thought. It is around 8-10 hours - I am admittedly an oversprayer. It lasts even longer on clothes. When I wear it to bed, I smell it on my bedclothes in the morning. It’s very different - for that reason I don’t think it’s dated, just unique. I can’t wait to see how this develops in warm weather. This is a very beautiful scent. Update - I absolutely love Diamonds and Rubies. Roses are blooming in my garden and in this perfume. The spices come into play almost immediately in warm weather and that fresh peach blast on apllication is now something I anticipate with pleasure. I know people think of this as a winter/Christmas beauty, and it is. But weather GREATLY affects what steps forward in this scent. I’m finding that I love it even more in warm weather. Heat does not subdue or consume it - this gorgeous girl thrives, dances and turns even more into what it can become. I hydrate my skin really well with an unscented product before spraying perfumes as it has become drier, and doing so really gives perfumes something to hold onto. It greatly extends longevity and strength in many cases, which is true for D&R. The more I wear this, the more I am compelled to wear it. Simply one of the most beautiful, different and expertly conceived perfumes I’ve ever met. Backup is ordered!

Upgraded from a like to a love--it's getting better as it matures. I think it's a bit unfair to compare D&R to the sublime Nahéma, which costs about eight times as much, but it's a respectful salute to the Guerlain classic. D&R reminds me of a cross between Nahéma and Trésor--call it Sophia Grojsman's tribute to Arabian rose attars. D&R is soapy and a little spiky-sweet from the cinnamon, with a big juicy, almost boozy-ripe peach up front that is soon suffused by a rosewater-vanilla accord. Despite these gourmand attributes, D&R is clean and powdery, and I find the sillage and longevity superior for an EDT, especially one that cost, what, $15? I can only speculate, having never smelled the first formulation to my knowledge, but I do think D&R is probably better as a vintage but only because of the sandalwood note, which is vanishingly slight in this iteration. But who knows? There are so many notes in the mix that it's hard to say. I mostly get rose-lilac peach with cinnamon, a sharp and soapy musk, almond-ish notes with the heliotrope and almond wood, but less like the nut or the blossom and more like the original fragrance in Jergens soap--sweet almond extract, but just a kiss of it, like you might discern in biscotti, not full-on marzipan. It throws pretty hard for the first hour or so, and then it calms down and becomes more of a skin scent. The cinnamon seems to stick around throughout the drydown, and it reminds me ever so slightly of Big Red chewing gum, but then I notice the rose and the soapy musk, and the cinnamon seems to recede a bit. I know this is not for everyone, and it's probably not a great blind buy, but it's so inexpensive that I hope people give away their unwanted bottles instead of simply trashing them. Someone in your social circle will appreciate this spicy vintage beauty.

For me this is a holiday party Christmas fragrance. It's got a soft warm spicy feel to it, like a cozy delicious festive gourmand scent even before they called it gourmands. The peach is like peach syrup and it comes through in the opening and stays strong throughout the performance of the perfume, enveloping those multi colored florals. The stand out florals in this are rose; in the form of rose oil, jasmine, lilac, heliotrope, and ylang ylang. Pink, purple, and yellow colored flowers. The sweetness of the peach and the floral juice can be too much. If you spray liberally this is a bomb. It's such a strong perfume it is at Giorgio Beverly Hills kind of strength. So it's best to spray once and you're good to go. This leans feminine and mature but it's gorgeous. It has a vanilla and amber dry down with sandalwood. Lasts hours and hours, all day. It projects like a missile. It's soapy powdery and cosmetic style. Pretty and dainty as opposed to assertive and strong (for that there's Passion). This is for a very soft feminine woman. Other vibes it gives me is retro cosmetics and powder, rose soap, and again, a gourmand vibe via the peach. This frag can be easily appreciated if you enjoyed such fragrances as Lancome's Tresor, Elizabeth Arden's Red Door, Lanvin's Arpege and Yves Saint Laurent's Paris. This is super feminine and sweet, with a sophisticated auntie Mame being the life of the party kind of vibe. It smells like Elizabeth Taylor enjoying herself at a Christmas party. It goes with sweaters, turtlenecks, scarves. It's a winter perfume. Despite the spice accords, it's mostly a peach and floral juice which turns into powder/soap and dries into sandalwood. A delicious and unforgettable vintage classic.

Oooh, Diamonds and Rubies, another interesting Grojsman frag! This one I will call "rich and strange." It seems to have a little of everything: a ripe peach at the beginning, going into powders and spices and jasmine and lions and tigers and bears oh my (OK, not really, but it's quite the hodgepodge). I'm never sure when a scent is marketed as an amber floral what it means, but this one offers a little something to everyone. It's not nearly as clean and soapy as Sparkling White Diamonds, and the scent is well-blended enough that you don't really pick out the individual notes so much as enjoy the overall gestalt. Something about the spice/fruit/almond/floral accords is kind of Christmassy to me. Update: For an EDT, this is crazy powerful. I find that many of the Taylor EDTs are stronger than what many other lines call EDPs. I would advise not overspraying D&R because the longevity and sillage are much huger than you might expect from the color of the juice and the EDT designation. Update: The drydown is beautiful and not nearly as "in your face" as the first hour or so. I can still smell it quite strongly in the crooks of my elbows (just a single spray for each). Crazy longevity for an EDT, just crazy! I think next time I wear it I might focus on the lower body, or maybe just one inner elbow. I'd be very careful putting it on the chest or neck with this powerhouse sillage! Update: It is about ten hours later, and I can still smell Diamonds and Rubies in my elbow crooks. This might be the most enduring fragrance I have ever smelled, especially in the EDT form. What a mysterious concoction!

I have to add that I don’t often get compliments on my perfume these days, mainly because fragrances are weaker and have little or no sillage because of scent stabilizers being reduced in the past few years . That said, I can honestly say that I have never worn this in public without a stranger making a comment about how good I smell . Yes, really . And it is Elizabeth Taylor and costs very little and lasts all day . I love this exotic spicy floral, but it will not go over with the crowd who leans toward marshmallows and pralines. The creator of this perfume is Sophia Grojsman , who is an icon in perfumery . To me , D&R has some similarities to the vintage Samsara , along with Estée Lauder Spellbound . Those two classics are stripped of complexity and longevity, and Diamonds and Rubies is worth exploring if you love those . Definitely rich and made for a WOMAN . This is a true rich oriental and it is actually elegant despite the bargain price and sneers from people who will call it an old lady perfume. When I was young, girls wore perfumes like Opium , Obsession, Rive Gauche, and Azuree . They were head turners and not considered geriatric . No 70s hipster would be caught wearing perfumes that smelled like cupcakes for middle schoolers as they jammed to the Beatles , Jimmi Hendrix, and The Moody Blues. I hope Diamonds and Rubies never gets the reformulation hatchet , but I have a backup bottle next to my backups of Guerlain and Jil Sander#4 . This is my most complimented perfume when I leave my home and am in public .

This is very close to Hermès Rouge. Diamonds and Rubies derives texture from a powdery rose soap accord, almond, and spice, whereas Hermès Rouge derives texture from iris. In Diamonds and Rubies, the cedar and sandalwood provide an elegant woodsy base while supporting the rose with a creamy emollience. Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge both offer a similar, highly sophisticated powerhouse rose. Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge also both convey an abstract nostalgia that echoes more history than the years of their releases would reflect. Diamonds and Rubies is a little bit fuzzier than Hermès Rouge, but that seems to be a Sophia Grojsman watermark. Grojsman’s creation Lancôme Trésor shares a similar fuzziness, but I find Diamonds and Rubies to be much more comfortable to wear than Trésor. Diamonds and Rubies and Hermès Rouge share a certain uniqueness in that not many fragrances smell like this. Diamonds and Rubies peripherally offers up the fruitier notes in sweet little sparkles that convey high quality. Diamonds and Rubies is soft, elegant, and gorgeous. As an early flanker of White Diamonds, Diamonds and Rubies retains the regal character that established this line of perfumes as a serious presence. The quality is not the least bit undermined by the price point. As with Hermès Rouge, I’m sure one bottle lasts for 20 years. I also get the Guerlain Nahema reference, but Diamonds and Rubies is closer to Hermès Rouge than anything else.

Here are my first impressions after 2 or 3 days of wearing. It was blind buy. I'm surprised how delitious slightly sour sweet peach with little bit of cinnamon developed on my skin after maybe 20 or 30 minutes. Lovely, gourmand, unusual and mature. So complex. Wonderful smell.... there's something nearly narcotic or addictive for me.... great blend of smells. I should add, that my skin chemistry hates modern main stream fragrances and loves aldehyde ones. So... maybe that's why I am so happy about this perfume. Longevity is ok, when I sprayed before going to bed, I woke up in cloud of wonderful smell. Disadvantage is strange smell 20 minutes after spraying. It reminds me Arpege by Lanvin, it has similar strange smell in first 20 minutes. Moreover something strange like smell of barbie doll head is present in fragrance. I don't mind it. Bottle is cheap and of low quality and I really don't like it. But I don't care, juice is wonderful. Scent is sweet and has "doll head" smell so I can imagine it like a migrena or nausea trigger. In my case, it's ok. Skin on sensitive parts of arms is slightly itching after spraying.... so I use it only on non-sensitive parts. That's why I won't buy it again. I have Diamonds and Emeralds too. But Rubies are way much better. If you like aldehyde, sweet, cinnamon and peachy perfumes, go for it. It's unusual, soothing scent and bargain.

This reminds me of what a flamboyant, theater-obsessed glam-bomb would wear. It's Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson, not Glenn Close) in a bottle. This isn’t a modern, squeaky-clean (God forbid) office floral and I wasn't sure about it at first, because the opening is a STRONG dose of rose. But you need some patience, because the dry down is gorgeous. It's an elegant, less aggressive mix of red rose, almond, and vanilla. It smells like a glamorous 1950s dressing room, complete with expensive makeup and dusting powder, and roses. ET fragrances are known for being high-quality with incredible longevity. This one is no exception, and you get a real bang for your buck. That being said, it doesn't knock you out from across the room like White Diamonds EDT, and not even as much as Diamonds and Emeralds. It's just the right amount of drama without getting you wheeled off to the booby hatch for murder like poor Norma. It's elegant, classic without feeling dated, and a tad over-the-top in the very best way. Wearing this makes me feel like an '80s soap opera villainess cursing Luke & Laura on their wedding day. It's almost as if Elizabeth Taylor had her own character from General Hospital in mind when she created this. FYI: This isn't a BEAST like White Diamonds EDT. Sillage, projection, and longevity are all moderate at most.

This perfume finally came in the mail, due to the generosity of my in-laws. I had been excited to smell this for the past four years, but due to a tight budget had never been able to bring myself to actually spend the money. This perfume is just lovely. I smell elements of many other perfumes I have loved over the years, while somehow being softer and more gentle than many of them. I smell the high yellow-floral sweetness that was the strongest element that I smelled from Chloe Narcisse; I also smell a tiny bit of the watery, old-fashioned rose of of the Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose. As the scent develops I smell the dusty, orangey powder of Dana Navy; and in the heart I swear I detect a hint of the warm, almost root-beer spices of Tabu. While I smell all of these great elements in their turn, this perfume does not feel as potent as many of the perfumes I have listed; I would not be afraid to wear a spritz of this to an office as long as the weather wasn't too overbearingly warm. This is not something I can say about Diamonds and Sapphires, which is incredibly powerful on me (all the lily and melon). In all, I am just very happy to have been able to finally smell and own this fragrance; I will be wearing it very often. I think it goes very well with a femme Victorian gothic or midcentury vintage visual aesthetic.

For elders?! Grandmas?! Old ladies?! AAAAAAaaarrggghhh... I am SO very, very tired of reading such nonsense I could scream. Leaving out colognes named for and bottled like cartoon/movie characters marketed like toys to appeal to children and meant only to be fun, fragrances are simply AGELESS. I submit that flowers have no age, nor do fruits, spices, herbs, animalics, elements, chemicals, even seasons and locales. Fragrances reflect the imagination and intention of their creators. Whether to create a mood, reflect a style, enshrine a time or place, to please, perhaps to perplex or even to stun, fragrances are meant to enhance our lives, no matter our age & sometimes no matter our gender. My tiny 5ml bottle of Diamonds & Rubies parfum contains a powerful, silky, complex elixir of ageless deep red roses, syrupy amber, nose-tingling cinnamon and pepper, smooth benzoin and satiny woods. This baby puts me in mind of a sweetened Kenzo's Jungle L'Elephant, another sultry, long lasting beauty. Diamonds & Rubies is a rich comfort scent that seems perfect today with over a foot of snow on the ground. In this glistening world of bright white I'm enveloped in red velvet as wafts of Diamonds and Rubies rise from my neck and scarf to my frost chilled nose... grinning like an idiot while shoveling snow. Gorgeous. And ageless.

Love ! I received this today and I have the flu so my nose isn’t great so forgive me if I’m incorrect but to me it has a Gloria Vanderbilt powder scent to it. I love this fragrance, very feminine and ladylike. On me it’s lilac, amber and musk...beautiful. I wore white diamonds and all of the other fragrant jewels when I was younger but usually just grabbed for whichever and never took the time to have a favorite. Too young to care I suppose, but I do recall them all smelling wonderful. So I’ve decided to recollect them and I started with this one Rubies. Even though I’m sick it is a comforting non offensive scent. It can be worn year round, day or night. I really am enjoying this while I’m here in bed channel surfing. I can’t wait to wear it out when I’m feeling better. Safe blind buy... so classic and timeless. Edit: Wore this today. It’s raining on and off. This smells so classic, comforting, powdery and pleasant. I will be reaching for this often until Summer, heck it may work during warmer weather as well. For the price I’d say a definite safe blind buy. Smells like I paid much much more than I actually did. Oh and now that I’m no longer stuffy I agree with my previous review it does have a Gloria Vanderbilt powder vibe to it.

Wow this is a beautiful perfume! I sooo love this. The almond note on top combined w/ the red rose is so distinct and special. Those then blend w/ that lush peach, spices, powdery heliotrope, other florals and that sweet vanilla to create soft, dark red velvet magic! This perfume is fancy. It is for special events, for holidays spent w/ loved ones. It gives me a romantic feeling yet it is also so loving, soft, gentle. It invites hugs and kisses and cuddles. I have to admit I never wanted to try Elizabeth Taylor fragrances because I thought they were going to be to screechy, loud and harsh. My hair dresser and I were talking about her movies the other day and how we both loved them and I got to thinking why don't I see what others have said about her fragrances in this magazine. And based on these reviews I gave 3 of her fragrances a try. Plus they can be had for nothing! I have spent a fortune on perfume over COVID and now I could kick myself because I could've been wearing these beauties and saving a hell of a lot of money in the process! If anyone has any hesitation about these perfumes don't! Run to the nearest computer and order like the wind! If you appreciate glamour, style and good taste you won't be disappointed.

d&r is my darling dear, my good time girl, my silly rabbit. i don't know what it is about her exactly, but she just speaks to me during the winter months. maybe its the high school courtney love obsession that (for better or worse) lingers to this day, but diamonds and rubies paired with my winter uniform (big coat, long skirt, too big sweater, too much eyeliner, and a ton of jewelry) feels very Me. she is absolutely a cold weather EXCLUSIVE though. if it's warm or humid that beautiful syrupy, powdery, spicy rose-peach-amber turns cloying and overwhelming. diamonds and rubies is certainly not for everyone, but if she's for you, she's an absolute delight; and with that lasting power, bang for your buck she pretty much can't be beat. i think of: a coat with a fur collar and cuffs, a vintage charm bracelet, hugging someone who's just been outside on a cold day and catching a whiff of winter air along with their perfume, matching teacups and saucers but each teacup and saucer set is different from the next, the insanely cool grandmother i saw in a café wearing wide legged cropped sailor trousers paired with velvet ballet flats and striped socks, stork sewing scissors....

Powdery Evoked Carnation with Rose, Almond & a Vintage Vibe... I heard about this scent for along time, and now that I've finally got to test it, I'm not disappointed. There's alot going on in the notes, but I will do my best to describe what I get: opens with a rose that's sweet & powdery with soft floral & almond-wood tones. The spicy notes in the heart include some cinnamon & nutmeg, that help the scent to transition into a spicy rose that leans to carnation with a vintage vibe, while ylang supports the fruity facets of the rose, and heliotrope supports the powdery, vanilla facets. The longer it dries down, the sweeter it gets with vanilla and sandalwood with everything held together by benzoin-amber. There are some similarities to the original White Diamonds Elizabeth Taylor, but this is rosier and leans more to carnation as it's drying down rather than tuberose. This isn't a dupe of anything, but I can see the similarities to Trésor Lancôme with peach, but this is rosier, with a powdery, carnation-leaning rose as the star of the show. I'm a longtime fan of carnation, so it's a love for me. Enjoy!

@Fatima1219 I was just having some grim daydream along the lines of what you described, a little eerie to say the least! Glad you have your life and your health! To others, this scent bears multiple testings. The first time I smelled it, all I got was melon and spice, and I really didn't enjoy it. But after the 2nd or 3rd try I was suddenly able to detect all the sweet, creamy rose, peach, and heliotrope along with the powdery almond. Do give it a few tries before you make a final judgment. This is now one of my top favorites, and a wonderful, romantic aura I like to surround myself in, especially for bedtime. The vintage EDP and parfum are also a more lasting, rich experience. The modern EDT is definitely thin and weak in comparison (this is OK for me, as I love to make a big cloud around me at home with the EDT!) The rose and spices are more apparent. You may wish to seek those out, as the prices are still affordable. I think it's worth it, but maybe I'm partial.

A very grown up feminine romantic fragrance, this is NOT a sugar candy sweet 2020s fume this is a very clever composition and multifaceted. Very similar to Tresor an almost dupe. Diamonds & Rubies is a beautiful rose peach musk fragrance you need to wait 20 minutes for the fragrance to settle and warm on the skin. Perfect for Autum/Winter, the Red outer box is an ideal stocking filler for Christmas. Elizabeth Taylor fragrances are all made of very high quality ingredients do not be put off by the low price on the initial launch 25-30 years ago Elizabeth Taylor fragrances were incredibly expensive. I see the similarities with Lancome Tresor the excellent Russian nose Sophia Grosjman is the nose of this fragrance. White Diamonds, Passion and Diamonds and Emeralds are my other ET fragrances that I own Emeralds is my favourite as I love Tuberose and Gardenia but Rubies is beautiful. Don't just try it buy it you will love it. 🌹🎄❤

My three stages of getting to know D&R: 1. She was a blind buy, and my first reaction was not pleasant. I got a strange buttery popcorn-like sensation initially, and decided she was not for me. So off she went to the box of perfumes I'm going to sell. 2. A few months later I was testing Guerlain Nahema at a department store and was immediately reminded of D&R. My sense of smell has been evolving and now I find it easy to appreciate the peaches and roses of Diamonds and Rubies. In fact, I can't get enough of her! 😍She's happy, a bit silly, light-headed, nostalgic, rich, gorgeous. Perfect for Christmas time. If Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas had a scent, this would be it. This is your reminder not to get rid of fragrances too soon. Give them some time and they can surprise you.

Okay, I just hafta say, LOVEEEEEE. I will NEVER be without a bottle of this again. This perfumer is a magical genius. She also did Diamonds & Rubies' teenaged little sister, Exclamation, and I love that one too. I feel sexy wearing this. Beautiful. I feel like this is what Angelina Jolie would have worn in a spy movie twenty years ago. Its deep, and full and as soon as I sprayed it, this full bodied warmth filled both nostrils and surrounded me in this beautiful perfumed cloud. I was only wearing shorts and a Marley teeshirt when I sprayed this, but I immediately felt like the kind of woman who pencils those dark lines up the backs of her legs, after she has donned the perfect LBD and slipped a gold cased crimson lipstick into her black satin evening bag, on her way out to an evening of dancing and dinner at the club. This gorgeous fragrance is taking me places in my mind and I am HERE for all of it. So much love.

A Sophia Grojsman masterpiece! That fact that we can still find this all over the place for <$20 is astounding. A lightly spiced floral Oriental scent. Yes, the Sophia Grojsman peach is here, but she's not the star like in Exclamation. No, this is dominated by a lush rose scent that somehow manages to be prominent without being overtly dominating and "Grandma-y". A rare anytime scent for me, the spices aren't so dominant that it stays locked in wintertime. The bright, white florals and beautiful, soft, musky sandalwood and just barely there cedar is fantastic for any afternoon. For a lovely day you'd start with Violet Eyes in the morning, Diamonds and Rubies in the afternoon, White Diamonds in the early evening, and White Diamonds En Rouge as you move into the night. Elegance never gets old. If you dislike these then that just means there's more for me to love. 🥰🌹🍑🍾

After wearing this several days in a row, it reminds me of something a fashionable character in Murder She Wrote would wear. It's definitely dated, but that alone shouldn't stop someone from giving this a chance. One reviewer said the smell is warm, even hot. I agree. It's definitely a spicy perfume. It's sweet and very powdery, heavy rose and almond. I definitely get the ylang-ylang and sandalwood, and I think what dates this one in particular is the addition of sandalwood and strong florals. At first sniff it also reminded me of old-school pink tiled bathrooms and potpourri. But I refuse to let memories ruin a scent for me, and wore this, picking it apart until I saw it's beauty. I think it's an excellent bedtime juice. Some people may find the powdery nuance headache inducing, however, or the sweet and almond cloying. Its a great cheapie I think.

To the previous reviewer: Diamonds and Rubies is rich and it lasts, which makes it ( sadly) superior to the Tom Ford scents I have tested and owned as of Mar 2019. It is fairly intense upon the opening notes, but it soon softens and I smell it all day . I often get compliments on this one, and there are not many scents these days that have any sillage at all ( unless you shower in your perfume). If someone misses the classic strong and spicy orientals, they should give this a try. Also, White Diamonds lasts all day and is well composed. Though it has been around for many years I just discovered it . I find it well made , rich,and elegant . The EDT and the EDP are both lovely , and the EdP sometimes be found on sale at Fragrancenet . These two perfumes are great values and well done.

What was once a well-blended high-quality department store fragrance has turned into a cheapy drug store brand. Since her passing, Elizabeth Taylor's brand is going downhill. I received Diamonds and Rubies sealed new inbox. Once opened, I was shocked to find that the spray nozzle was made of cheap clear plastic and not the usual gold plated finish I was used to. Well the perfume itself smells like the plastic cap. Yes, it smells like plastic and has a strong chemical smell. Be warned that anything made by "House of Taylor" is inferior to the original high-quality fragrance made by "EA Fragrances Co." What was once a well-blended high-quality department store fragrance has turned into a cheapy drug store brand. It's sad that those who manage her estate would let things get this bad.

This is a Sophia Grojsman creation through and through. My initial reaction to smelling Diamonds and Rubies was "Coty Exclamation grew up and got a makeover". To me, the sweet, nectar-y peach note dominates the blend, with the floral and Oriental notes in the background. I specifically smell peaches, vanilla, rose, spice, and carnation. I love it, but I love all of Grojsman's peachy fragrances. I only have a bottle of the current EDT. I am on the lookout for older versions to try. I once had a parfum mini, but can't remember it at all. I must have liked it because I used it up. Unfortunately this formula (2019 EDT) performs like a body spray on me. A skin scent within 15 minutes and gone completely within a couple of hours. Which is disappointing, because I like it so much.

I have the modern EDT, 90s EDP, & a parfum, shower gel, lotion, & body powder set of unknown age. All smell great but other reviewers are correct about the EDT being lighter and sweeter, maybe less complex than other iterations. Edt's are supposed to be this way but I don't know how a vintage EDT compares to what I have. Parfum & EDP are woodier, muskier, and more rosy than the EDT. I find the EDT pretty lasting but yes, the balance of notes is different. Bath products smell like the EDT, and the powder is woodier. Passion body powder is also very woody, almost gasoline-y. I like it. I wonder if all the Taylor powders share that quality. Both the powders I have are also SPARKLY which delights me, as a person who was 13 years old when body glitter peaked in the late 90s 😄

This review is for the modern EDT as of 2019: This is a simply amazing old school fragrance that can stand up against anything from the high price perfume houses. The opening will scare you, but hold on! It's a drunk peachy rose--but that doesn't do it justice. The spices and powder are also noticeable even before the drydown giving the impression of a very grand lady at her dressing table powdering her nose. It has BEASTLY sillage and longevity. I love it so much that I'm prone to overspray--will have to scale back, because it basically becomes a cloud around you. But if it smothers me to death it's not a bad way to go. Very different from the original White Diamonds, but absolute quality. The best of the flankers by far, and there are a few good ones, too.

This! THIS! This is simply a divine spicy peach and rose. I've never really cared for peach in perfumes before I smelled this. This is the scent that made me understand the peach note, and finally see how utterly gorgeous it can be in a composition. It's a juicy sweet, almost syrupy, sunny, spicy warm and smooth perfume, with a deep and demure rose note, that combines youthfulness (that playful peach) and sophistication in an excellent way. It also contains almond wood, which gives the perfume a creamy woody quality that is to die for. Sillage is strong at first, but on me it dries down to a moderate. Longevity is wonderful. About 8-10 hours on my skin. I love this perfume! I wish I could fill a pool with it, dive in and bathe in the stuff for hours. lol

I love this so much. A beautiful rose heavy fragrance with a powdery clean freshness, subtle sweetness from peach and a beautiful depth to it from the spice and amber. I also find the almond adds this very interesting woodiness. This reminds me so much of other Sophia Grojsman fragrances especially Tresor, True Love and Paris - but I infinitely prefer this one surprisingly! I find this one has more depth and warmth to it than those three. It perfectly adds what I felt was missing from those three fragrances. The first time I tried my mum instantly recognised the smell and realised my grandma wore it! For me this is my personal favourite rose fragrance. Absolutely adore this. Elizabeth Taylor has in my opinion one of the best fragrance lines.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet. I haven't worn it in a few months after it being my daily last year. Absolutely unique, stunning fragrance. It's dusty roses, vintage makeup powder, spice and a syrupy peach and almond wood brighten it in an unexpected way. It's not a true gourmand in the slightest, it's as if you left that peach sit a little too long and it's overripe. The rose isn't a green fresh rose, but a rose that has been dried inside the pages of an old musty book. It has that old wood decay note. I often layer this with Ciara by Revlon. A long forgotten fur coat of a luxurious glamorous woman kept in an old wardrobe for decades. This is what Diamond and Rubies smells like to me

The perfume has grown on me a lot. It took me a while to get it. I thought at first it was too light for me with no base. There was also a sour note in there that I didn’t like. Then one day, about 2 weeks in, after persisting, it clicked. I could smell the ripe sun drenched peach and the creaminess. Whereas before I could only smell a savoury pear- no sweetness. The perfume had ripened! It’s absolutely beautiful, a very beloved scent that is warm, elegant, feminine, fruity, delicately sweet, and creamy. I don’t get any powder at all. I like powder, so it’s not that I’m against powder but it’s creamy and smooth- in my experience. If you like peach in a scent I believe you will like this.

Surprised noone has mentioned that this frag is very very similar with Sun Moon Stars that Sophia did for KL. Just more affordable "same-thing" basically. Same spicy mulled wine-christmas parties vibe in it, same baked peach on woody-sweet base. Years ago everyone wanted to be "ultra-modern" and wear something extremely extravagant and crazy - to smell like a tarmac, or rain, or new car's leather seats...Hmmm. Now you are on trend, if you are going retro. So I suppose Sophia's frags again as avant-garde as years before - to be a woman, to wear a medium length dress, to curl your long hair, to smell of fruits, powder, lipstick. Trendy!

Okay, I've had this fragrance for awhile and i rarely use it because of how vintage it smells and how many people say i smell like baby powder, which is wonderful when i'm in the mood for vintage, but i get self conscious when people say i smell like something specific... I get Pretty almond, peach, and some spices (?) out of this, and i think of the 80's and early 90's teen girls at the mall, though i never lived though those times, it seems like something you'd smell at the perfume counter in a mall then. My entire family says it smells like baby powder, and maybe i just have a trained nose, but it's much more fruity and warm to me.

I remember when this came out my grandma had gifted me a bottle of this...her personal favorite was White Diamonds. I’ll be honest I wasn’t a huge fan of Diamond’s and Rubies but I wore it occasionally over the years. Now here we are in 2025 and I recently picked this up and while it clearly it’s the new version it smells similar to the original. I get the powdery rose scent then whiff of cinnamon spice,peach,heliotrope,jasmine etc I’m honestly loving this!!! Wearing this gives me nostalgic old school 1950 pinup vibes. But it also reminds me of my grandma who I miss daily. Sillage and longevity are moderate to long lasting on me.

This fragrance surprised me. I was expecting it to be lighter, but it had a synthetic bite that I wasn’t feeling at that moment, but it smelled so familiar. I let it rest, and a few hours later smelled Sun Moon Stars and and bingo, there it was, just not as powdery in the opening. And the apricot was more front stage. It smells like Tresor and Sun Moon Stars mated on steroids. Every bit of the Grojsman Accord is here, but she is loud and unapologetic about who she is, just like Elizabeth Taylor! If you ever wondered what Tresor would smell like if it was made by Elizabeth Taylor, you need to smell Diamonds and Rubies!

Consistent compliment getter, lush spicy peachy rose. Really beautiful and not at all subtle, glamorous and opulent. I ❤️ Grojsman. Honestly this smells a lot like a more elegant and luxurious Charlie Gold. If if seems harsh in first spray, for goodness sake macerate, like all cut-price classics this seems to be rushed into the box and on a shelf. And if you think it "doesn't last", try not to spray it in your neck, something so strong induces nose blindness pretty quickly. Trust me, everyone else can smell you. A light spray on each wrist or elbow, and you should get delectable wafts all day.

A great retro fragrance that slightly differs from others! I love the powdery scent combined with the sophistication of this era back then. It's somehow a more luxurious Black Opium with Hollywood glam. I truly believe it's a "bridge-perfume" between the past and the future. I could normalise smelling it also on a contemporary person who express the style of this fragrance and not only on older women. inspiration in words: "A special person that brings balance. Eccentric, dynamic, very serious and stable. Quality, brilliance, and modernity make you the protagonist in your everyday life".

I am a huge fan of the original White Diamonds, I think it's one of the most beautiful fragrances ever created. I adore Sophia Grojsman's creations so trying Diamonds and Rubies was a must. It is simply gorgeous. Powdery, floral, peach. A little goes a long way. Massive projection and longevity. Maybe even more potent than the OG White Diamonds. It reminds me a bit of another of her creations, Lancome Tresor. Similar powdery peach notes, but spicier. Diamonds and Rubies still has the familiar OG White Diamonds hints, with a spicier more powdery smell and rose instead of white floral.

This is a beautiful, unabashed 90's scent, the scent of my hay days. I wished I happened on it earlier. It is a red scent, roses and cinnamon, sandalwood, amber. I am not surprised that the great Sophia Grojsman created it. It reminds me somewhat of Spellbound, but not totally, and also of Vintage Red Door, the one from the 80's and 90's (the present formulation of Red Door is awful, and cannot be counted). Sillage is great, pretty strong at the start, and longevity is outstanding. I can still smell it on my clothes for days. The bottle is beautiful too, and value is outstanding.

This review is for the vintage perfume in the little egg dabber bottle: Oh goodness. So, the good news is that this is absolutely recognizable as the same fragrance as the modern EDT. Reformulations haven't butchered it. In fact, the modern EDT might be stronger in terms of longevity and sillage. The bad news is that this vintage is so much softer, smoother and better blended. Yes, it opens with a scary alcohol note. After that, it's all elegance. It is still a warm spicy peach rose, but you can't easily pick those notes out. This is a real beauty. Truly a rare gem.

My grandmother wore WD so I was hesitant to try this (personal associations can be hard to overcome!) So glad I went for it. This was a bit off-putting at first, all I got was almond and melon. A few more wears, and now I find it just stunning! Very romantic. Almond essence, rose, soft stone fruits, and a bit of calone and muguet freshness. Reminds me of an aquatic Tocade or Sun Moon Stars but add almond. Addictive. I find I'm NEEDING to spray this before bed and don't want to sleep without it. What's that, Ms. Grojsman, did you say, "Hug Me?" Yes, I think I will.

Very similar to more expensive fragrances like Guerlain Nahema but without paying the hefty price. This is a very beautiful powdery dusty, woodsy rose with a hint of creamy peaches, jasmine and ylang-ylang and subtle spice. It does justice to the retro versions of fragrance of old Hollywood glamour, very Rita Hayworth, something I would expect a gorgeous red hair beauty to wear. If you're looking for some retro glam, this is it! I find this to be the best of the Elizabeth Taylor fragrances in creating a glamorous, luxurious fragrance.

Soft, gentle, makeup powder, dried peaches, rose, complex, almond extract, honeyed amber, buttery ylang, wistful, romantic, a little spicy, vintage, classic, quality, womanly. Thought I'd just randomly list all of the adjectives that pop into my mind when thinking about Diamonds and Rubies. I love this and cannot believe that I continue to see this at discount stores for next to nothing. It's shocking. What is the world coming to when people prefer pickled artificial sandalwood and ambroxan to natural smelling perfumes like this one?

A high level scent for me. Very flowery, were roses dominades, but roses not annoying. Just a little sweetness, just a little spiciness. There is also something fresh on my opinion in the mix, that i can not explain, seeing the notes. When it settles is a warm, flowery,femminine fragrance. I think is easy to reach all year around and every time of the day/night, but nevertheless the scent is interesting and special. It is a dominant, attractive and brilliant fragrance - something that nowdays sugary fragrances should envy.

I've reviewed this one before, but just want to follow up because it seems I'm not the only one that intially had a negative response to this perfume. It smelled like fake candy melon and cinnamon the first time I tried it. Can't really explain it, but the rose and almond were absent in the beginning. A week later I was obsessed and now I don't smell melon at all, mostly rose, spices, almond and peach. It's so pretty. I would rate it higher than "love" if I could. Wish this site had a "can't live without it" rating :)

Just discovered this and it's splendid, especially since it's such a bargain (it definitely smells 6 times more expensive). I would say it's a combination between Tresor (peach) and Chanel 5 (powder). Absolutely Amazing find. This is a "50's femme fatale" scent, glamorous and larger than life in the old Hollywood kind of way. Longevity is excellent for an EDT. I love it, and will buy again.

I own a whole lot of perfumes , but this one always gets compliments and it is dirt cheap . No kidding, strangers at the book store or grocery store look over and tell me they like my perfume and ask what it is . The first sniff out of the bottle I thought was nt wonderful, but the drydown won me over and I think this one is lovely . It reminds me of the original Samsara many years ago .
