White Diamonds Icon

As with visits from family, I was cautiously optimistic about White Diamonds Icon. Just as I remember my cousin's wife getting plastered at Thanksgiving and falling face-first into the dessert table, I vividly remember the faceplants that were White Diamonds Night and Love & White Diamonds. When they announced a reimagining "for a new generation," I was hopeful but..."cautiously optimistic." I may forgive, but I don't forget. I didn't expect anything spectacular, but color me shocked, the opening is LOVELY. It's modern and devoid of the 'old lady' vibe that basic internet reviewers complain about endlessly. But it isn’t desperately trying to be young either. It’s bright and surprisingly balanced. The strawberry, pear, and mandarin notes are effortlessly magnetic and give a gorgeous sweetness without dragging you down into fruity-floral purgatory. The opening is short lived and fades into delicate orange blossom. I almost always prefer projection that requires a city permit, but you won't get that here. It's delicate in the truest sense of the word, sitting close to the skin. It's intimate, but not a skin scent. Frankly I think that's the point. This isn't meant to be a beast like the beloved OG. As the floral heart warms up, you get caramel and oakmoss. Anyone under a 'certain' age will expect that caramel to smell like a sticky dessert. Sorry honey bun, but Icon doesn't go down that path. True to form, it stays refined and dry. Think of the same experience you get with Pure Poison. Soft and proper. Appropriate and never overbearing. After the initial fruitiness, this is what I'd call office safe. Or really, safe for almost any occasion. Dare I say this stuff is dignified?? I'm reaching for my smelling salts, but I think our fabulous Ms. Taylor would approve. She might scoff at the longevity. No doubt that could be better, as it fades in under 3 hours. But dearies, just respray and move on with life. And since it won't cost you NEARLY as much as the pretentious niche bottles collecting dust on your vanity, I'd consider this a safe blind buy. To add more frosting, every purchase supports The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. You get to smell like a class act and do some actual good in the world, all without breaking the bank. That sounds pretty iconic to me. EDIT: A quick word of warning for the trigger happy among us. I eagerly doused myself the day my bottle arrived, which happened to be blazing hot. Because of the heat, that delicate profile warped into something that was a lot and frankly, stifling the longer I wore it. But today is a cool, cloudy day and it's absolutely gorgeous. This stuff has completely won me over. To give Icon a fair shot, don't test drive her in the heat. Let her breathe in the cool air and she blossoms.

On my skin, at least so far, I am getting much more caramel than I expected, a kind of amped-up ethyl maltol kind of experience that I wasn't prepared for. It's not as cloying as it can be in LVEB, and it's not quite as dry-subtle-ambery as it is in Prada Candy, but it strikes a good balance between the two. I love jonquil and narcissus--probably my favorite aspect of the original White Diamonds, especially in the parfum concentration--and I can definitely detect them on my skin, but not as much as the caramel. I do pick up on the strawberry note, and it's lovely, but it's by no means in your face, the way it is in that recent Phlur offering, and it's definitely not gourmand. I haven't been wearing this long enough to assess its performance, but I can already tell that it's not a powerhouse the way that the OG White Diamonds is, especially in vintage formulations. Most of the Liz Taylor EDTs wear like EDPs; Icon is an EDP that wears like a regular designer EDP, which is to say that it's more like the usual Liz Taylor EDT. No matter. At this price, it's easy to reapply, and it is almost certainly safer for an office environment because the throw is minimal. Honestly, today was not the best day to apply White Diamonds Icon. Despite the springlike florals and the tender marketing images (Elizabeth in Giant, aka Sexy Pigtailed Ingenue Era), I see this as a cozy fragrance, perfect for cuddling up on the couch with a cashmere throw and some tea. WD Icon is not the absolute worst choice for hot, humid weather, but it's not what I would call refreshing either. Is it my absolute favorite from the Elizabeth Taylor line? No, but like all the ET fragrances, it is well worth the money--especially when a very generous percentage of it goes to AIDS research and support. For that reason alone, it merits a Love from me. Elizabeth Taylor might be dead in the corporeal sense, but her magnificence endures. Long live the Liz.

I love this latest ET release. So different from OG White diamonds, very modern and fresh, not gourmand. The Jonquille here is what we called Paperwhites and is a very unique scent! It is so pretty, with the other florals in support! Appropriate to wear anywhere.

I had to delete my previous review. I gave this an "ok" vote but after wearing it for a few hours I can't stand it. They discontinued White Diamonds Lustre and White Diamonds Night for this?! I had a bottle of Lustre but it broke and when I went to buy another there were none to be found. That stayed true to the original White Diamonds but added some fruity notes and toned down the power of the original. I am so sad because I wanted to like this perfume so much because I love many in the Elizabeth Taylor line but she would never have approved this. Not in a million years. It starts off as a strawberry, citrus shampoo scent but as it goes along it becomes a very very salty amber with the strawberry and green mossy aroma chemicals (that are giving me a horrible headache as we speak) I get some type of abstract florals but not paper white jonquil. More like fake magnolia. This is such a shame because this Icon is not Iconic like Elizabeth was. It's strange off putting and the orris root here has that plastic smell that orris root aroma chemicals have like in the LVEB line. This isn't a sweet fragrance. It is more salty, plastic and green than sweet. I don't know what I am going to do with this bottle. I will have to test it out on some friends and family to see if there are any takers. If anyone in the Fragrantica family wants to give this a try PM me. I will send it to you (USA only) for free. Not for me. It is a strange mixture that isn't very pleasant. Need to go wash it off right now. Elizabeth I am sorry they have done this to your legacy. If you were here this perfume would not have been made. I found some Lustre available on Amazon. I will get one before they are gone for good. I have 2 of the Night.

i've never tried the original white diamonds, and didn't have a good idea of what this would smell like. but this is interesting, it opens up sweet airy and floral with the fruit notes and pear blossom, but the pear blossom and orange blossom notes quickly start shining through, making it juicy and a little sexy with the base notes peaking through. i can't really sense the orris, but the ambergris and oakmoss steal the show in the drydown. i have no idea what jonquille smells like, so i can't say much about that :p. what i do know is that this is an intriguing scent and one i'd wear on a night out. it's not girly or youthful, but i find it juicy and pleasant to wear, so far. the longevity isn't that great, the scent dries down pretty quickly and then stays closer to the skin; you'd have to reapply to keep this scent alive throughout the night. i'd maybe layer it with something fruity and sweet as well, but that's just my taste

Love this rather immediately. Caramel lost on me. Maybe some green strawberry but not so sweet. It’s mature and earthy. Bright like Love And white diamonds but much more balanced. Love is too clean and sunny for me. Noticed for women and men. Awesome 35th anniversary release. It’s nothing gourmand but not just florals. For me it all works. Price was like half a celebrity. It’s not sparkling rather very clean mossy that isn’t gross maybe bc jonquill aka like daffodil. Winner. Not old school nor current vanilla lane. Perfume like this is rare. True original.

Just received this yesterday and have wore it ever since. Very nice perfume! Heavy on the strawberry note which I love! Kind of smells like a strawberry shampoo! Fresh strawberry, not a gourmand-ish strawberry. Inoffensive. Easy to wear. Is it groundbreaking? No. But is it worth a buy? To me, absolutely. But then again I’m an Elizabeth Taylor perfume fanatic! So maybe I am a bit biased🤔😌

Awful. Shampoo. I love White Diamonds, Black Pearls, Passion, Emeralds, Rubies, Sapphires, Sparkling White Diamonds, Gardenia, Lustre, Night... the only decent recent release was En Rouge... Legacy was awful. Can’t return. Stop insulting your loyal customers! Bring back the discontinued ones and stop reformulating what remains.

Rather meh. There is nothing to love or hate here and nothing resembling the original. I get no white florals or chypre style here, just a sweet fruity mass appealing designer style fragrance. It reminds me of something like the newer miss dior flankers.

For women and men?! is it a joke? Elizabeth Taylor was a feminine icon so was the perfume, it was supposed and created to be feminine! This world is going wrong direction.

Heck yeah!! I wondered if Diamonds en Rouge would be the last new offering from Liz Taylor's house. VERY excited about this new scent! Yay!
