White Diamonds Parfum

I love all the formulations of this, including the powder and body lotion, but the pure parfum is my favorite--intense ylang-ylang aldehydic white floral over creamy sandalwood, with a distinct luxury-soap smell. I guess to many people it must smell like a bevy of Baptist ladies at church on Sunday, or their least-favorite coworker Joelle, or their grandma's most obnoxious frenemy, or maybe, if they're lucky, one of their own beloved relatives. That's the paradox of a hugely popular fragrance: more people are likely to have already formed associations with it, specific memories that you simply cannot logic out of them with arguments focused on this note or that note or the perils of reflexive snobbery or the fanciness of the creator, Carlos Benaim. As your grandma no doubt said to you sometime, there's no accounting for taste. I guess I'm lucky because I don't really have any problematic associations with this perfume. For some reason, I gravitated to the flankers first, and it didn't occur to me to seek out the original. But then two different women I know confessed to me how much they loved this fragrance, and I discovered that I also love this fragrance. If you love aldehydes and yellow, white, and pink florals, well, this is the perfume for you. It's shockingly inexpensive, and it performs like a beast. A critic I admire said that this was a scent that was meant to waft up from décolletage, and I'm inclined to agree, although I think this mostly occurs to us all because of Ms. Taylor's famous bosom--you know what? It doesn't matter. It's just hyperfeminine and floral in all the ways I love best, but there's enough wood in the base to ground it. It's not so far removed from my beloved Samsara, although there the sandalwood and citrus are equal players with the floral notes, and here the florals reign supreme. I find the pure parfum juicier, creamier, less soapy and aldehydic, and more ylang-ylang forward than the EDP, which I also love, and the EDT, which is quite nice, too, although substantially less rich and complex. They can all be layered effectively, or worn alone. I spray the EDT once on my hairbrush, brush through my hair once or twice, and it's definitely more than enough to scent my hair (I can't even imagine what the EDP would do--it lasted more than 48 hours on a slip of paper, and the parfum is best applied by the drop). One thing you can say for the entire White Diamonds line is that the bang for the buck is simply unmatchable. Update: My friend the estate-sale habituée brought me two little vintage bottles of the parfum, which I compared to each other and to my new bottle of the pure parfum. The older ones do smell somewhat richer and more intensely floral, but this is a matter of degree, and they're all close enough that I'd probably fail a blind sniff test. I gave one of the vintage ones to my mom, who recently mentioned that she had always liked WD but hadn't had a bottle in years. Tiny as the bottle is, it could potentially last her indefinitely, since you really don't need more than a couple of drops at a time. And she is loyal to her signature scent, mostly, Cashmere Mist, which is obviously a very different scent profile.

My mom received this perfume as a Christmas gift from my dad in 1991 or 1992. It was the big dab bottle at the time. She accidentally knocked it over and it spilled all over her bathrobe and dresser one day and she felt bad. The top of the bottle was loose and didn't close properly. It was pricey at that time for her to replace it. She saved the nearly empty bottle which she still has. I was in middle school when this was released, and never really liked perfume and didn't pay much attention to these things. But I remember my mom opening the perfume and sampling it. And I remember when it spilled. I think I was in 8th grade. Over the years, my brother and I bought White Diamonds gift sets for her and for my aunt who also likes it. They were always available around holidays. Two years ago, I bought two White Diamonds mini parfum dab bottles and gave them to my mom and my aunt in their Christmas stockings. I wish I got one for me too since they sold out later. The perfume and EDP smell better than the EDT, which I have. I read the parfum is discontinued. Is the EDP made anymore? I can't find them anywhere in stores. Only the EDT. I like the dab bottle design but they seem to be discontinued and only the spray bottles of EDT exist now. The perfume has the typical big 80s and early 90s perfume smell I remember as a kid. I can't detect specific notes. But I like the perfume more after trying my mom's new small bottle at age 37. It is not as strong as I remember, but not sure I'd wear it. My mom was in her early 40s when she first got it. I am 39 now but I feel like this kind of scent is too strong for me. I don't believe age matters when it comes to perfume, because everyone is different and it depends on how perfume works with our chemistry and how we feel about it. With my personality and looking younger than I am, I think it comes off as too mature for me. My mom has always been very youthful too, but her style seems to suit it more, and my aunt too. They can carry these better than I can. But White Diamonds is a classic to me that says 80s and 90s in a bold way. I like it and would keep a small bottle for my collection. I'm glad my mom has that small bottle that I can take a sniff of now and then.

I received a mini in the mail the other day and tested it after my shower that night. As soon as I smelled this beautiful parfum on my skin I went right back on ebay and bought 2 more bottles. This is so well blended that I had a hard time picking out individual notes, though the ylang and lily show up early, and a creamy tuberose comes through in the heart. The aldehydes are not an assault on the nose but are soft, and the overall scent has a creaminess to it like a fine milled soap. I don't smell heavy spices, as some do, and maybe that's because this was manufactured by 3 different companies and had gone through as many reformulations. It could just be that I have a later formulation where overt spiciness was omitted or toned down, though I am picking up something like carnation (not listed in the notes), which for me is adding a little soapiness. Is that the spiciness others are smelling? I have no idea, nor do I know what version I have, but it doesn't matter because I love it anyway. For a dabber this has fantastic silage, though I can't speak to longevity because I was lulled to sleep by this blissful scent. Can’t wait to wear this again while out for a night on the town where I’ll be better able to judge the finer aspects of this scent. As it is now, I feel fantastic just wearing it and it is so beautiful it actually made me feel that way too. That’s a big plus in my book Update - My bottles are all 1st. formula Parfums International. I also purchased a 1st. formula PI edt version. Smells just as lovely.

My mother always wore the parfum, never the EDT spray. Now that I'm an adult I can see why, haha. It's liquid gold! As I dabbed it on, I quickly realized that this el cheapo Chanel No. 5-alike is more competently assembled, smells more natural, and is overall much nicer than the majority of the expensive "niche" perfumes. Today was a depressing day indeed. The EDT & EDP are more discordant and soapier, I much prefer the parfum. The formulation seems to have changed a bit over the years, although it's difficult to place my finger on the finer differences. It's still an aldehydic bomb of ylang-ylang, creamy white flower nectar, powder, and santal. Older bottles put more emphasis on yellow flowers, they smell a bit more lush and less alcohol-y, but the new ones are still pretty good. I understand the comparisons to Ysatis, but to my nose White Diamonds is softer, soapier, and more floral. There's a bit more emphasis on rose and the powdery notes, it's not as heavy on the spices, woods, or amber. Ysatis dries to a dense ambery chypre base, whereas this is more of a straightforward floral aldehyde. This iteration of White Diamonds gets you closer to Chanel No. 5 than you may yet realize. The parfum is hard to find, but they go for next to nothing online. Edit: I see gift sets that include the parfum in rack stores during the Christmas season.

WHITE DIAMONDS the PERFUME version not the 80% alcohol EDToilette. is exquisite. Powdery, feminine, men holding my hand, opening my Bentley door, giving me Lilacs and Orchids, Diamonds and First Class Flights. It drives many men to new heights of giving, I know, I have worn it night and day, after bathing, after sea swimming, after Ice Skating after ***. I am known by the lovely scent and everywhere I go I am touched and adored by seekers of my aura. The PERFUME version is very, very hard to source and I buy every bottle I see. I know this site is for your personal views but if you cannot say anything nice do not say anything at all. Parfum that sells for millions and millions of dollars just cannot have anything wrong with it, it is not possible, it is nothing less than a phenomenal, wild success, I bring beauty and glamour to some peoples dull, grey lives, just me and my WHITE DIAMONDS. People are always cheered and refreshed when in our company. I am easily upset and I only hear nice things, I am deaf to nastiness and cruelty. I do all I possibly can to help Animals in distress. Thank goodness most perfume essences are synthetic and Lab made, not derived from Civet cats or as a result of the hideous Whaling of yesteryear. Beauty without Cruelty is for me.

I didn't realize Fragrantica had finally acknowledged that the tiny mini bottles of the parfum version of White Diamonds hold an entirely different creature/creation than the 100ml bottles currently on offer in stores and on the 'net, but now that I know, I clap my hands in enthusiastic applause! If one runs into bottles of White Diamonds at brick & mortar retailers it's easy to dismiss the fragrance as an opulent 20th century Big Perfume throw-back. It's loud, it's brash, it's... easy to dismiss and avoid the purchase because it's cliche and is truly awful. BUT if you manage to find one of the mini bottles as in the listing photo you will be rewarded with a bit of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! These minis enclose a few mls of an opulent golden elixir that exudes a cloud of Old Hollywood glamour... a thick, syrupy, honeyed white flower of amber and elegance. Truly, just a couple of drops on each wrist & then pressed against the neck will envelope you in a cloud of pleasure. I have 3 of these minis and I'm constantly on a fleabay look-out for more on offer from sellers who don't realize what a treasure they have.

This is White Diamonds in its purest form. I get more ylang w/ this concentration, lots more ylang. There are animalic undertones to the pure perfume as well. It is still the cold blinding white powder of the eau de parfum and toilette but less so. Cinnamon undertones in the dry down. I get more rose w/ the eau de parfum than in either pure perfume or the toilette. All 3 have the same beautiful blinding white powder smell, all 3 smell like White Diamonds but there are subtle differences. More ylang in the pure perfume and more aldehyde in the toilette. All 3 versions are beautiful. I would recommend the toilette for the daytime and the pure perfume or the eau de parfum for evening. White Diamonds has become one of my favorite perfumes in my collection. I never thought it would but the more I smell it and the more I wear it the deeper in love I fall for it. If you haven't tried White Diamonds because like me you thought aldehydes weren't for you (#5 ruined this genre for me for too many years) Give this cold, crisp, clean, bold and blindingly beautiful white and sparkling powder fragrance a try.

The pure parfum, I believe, captures the essence of the TRUE White Diamonds that Elizabeth Taylor meant to share with the world. I wear it layered with the matching lotion and body wash and it seems to perfectly suit my body chemistry. I do not wear perfume to receive compliments but this one garners me the most from all ages, from both men and women. It is rich from the amber and orris root, the tuberose is creamy rather than high-pitched. All the floral notes are well-blended so I cannot pull out any of them in particular, except for lily. It will last FOREVER in your hair and on your clothes. It has become my signature over the years and I have hoarded several parfum bottles in all sizes. A little goes a long way! My grandma wore it for years (the vintage EDP, which I wear as well), but on me, it smells different. Now it smells like ME rather than my grandma even though I still imagine her when I first put it on. But over the course of the day as it dries down, it smells like I am coming home to me, does that make sense? It smells divine. Sometimes, I wonder why I wear anything else.

I bought several mini bottles of the pure perfume/parfum, and it is truly amazing at how this fragrance doesn’t even truly compare to the Eau de toilette. The Eau de toilette is just insanely woody to me, and the flowers are very subdued in comparison to this gem. The dry down on the EDT might be similar, but I never smell the Ylang in the EDT like I do in the Parfum. I know there is an Eau De Parfum floating around out there somewhere, but I have yet to find me a bottle of it to compare. As of now, I can’t wear the edt. It’s too harsh, and honestly doesn’t even smell good to me. This Parfum however instantly transports me back to sitting next to my mom at church. What I find to be odd is that she only ever owned the EDT. So I assume that the EDT was originally formulated to smell like this, but something in the EDT’s formula has changed drastically in the last 20 years. To the point in which the EDT doesn’t remind me of my mom at all. Only the Parfum with the potent Ylang note reminds me of my mom. I hope to God this Parfum formula isn’t discontinued.

I've already discussed my feelings of the EDT notes so I just wanted to make a quick review on how I feel the parfum differs. For White Diamonds I do prefer the parfum because I like the way it develops. I feel like I get through that skank/animalistic phase much faster and its not nearly as loud at the EDT is. I really have to hold of for dear life when I spray the EDT because the first five minutes to me don't smell very pleasant at all, and with the parfum its very close to the skin that unpleasant smell as opposed to being blasted with an atomized version of it. White Diamonds is a great fragrance, that I think gets a bad wrap sometimes because we all know someone who used it as a signature scent or over sprays because they've become nose blind to it. Miss Taylor was so kind to make this affordable and accessible to all. If you cant find a way to wear this as your own due to association with someone who did, try a flanker. They are all built off the bones of this, and with so many to chose from there is bound to be one that fits your personality.

Aldehydic at first yet soon a lovely harmony of flowers appears and this is the sillage - ylang, jasmine, tuberose, lily, amber. It is full bodied and indeed similar to Ysatis, First by Van Cleef&Arpels and Chanel N°5. But to Ysatis is bears very close resemblance though I prefer White Diamonds which is more refined. My small bottle aged perfectly (well, it is my Mother's actually but I hijacked it) and is just as perfect as it was as new. It is warm and spicy in the background which makes it full bodied. It is just perfect this winter. From the bottle it seemed retro but when on - not really. Just sweet floral bouquet on amber. Classy and gorgeous. I used to stay away from the classic compositions but this is so very feminine and clean and radiant, slightly soapy, too. Its sillage pleases me. Very elegant. Truly a scent to golden jewellery and diamonds. It is rather gentle on.

I have a small amount of the pure parfum/extrait, and bottles of both the EDP and EDT. I have to say that they are different creatures--though the EDP and parfum are closer to each other. In the EDT, the orange and aldehydic notes seem strongest, while here in the parfum and EDP, the spices, heady florals, and rich chypre base are at luxurious levels... In fact, a good friend's mother wore the EDT exclusively, and neither she nor her son were able to recognize the scent when I've worn the parfum or EDP. Other people have discussed the notes of WD in detail, so I won't go into that, but I will say that, if you'd REALLY like to experience this beautiful fragrance and the whole of its intention, go with one of the stronger (and vintage, if possible) concentrations and see your skin glisten nicely with the rich oils as you bask in the aroma.

This is lovely! At the beginning, there's a flowery-buttery accord, maybe the tuberose. It's just heavenly. I can't tell apart the rest of the floral notes, but I do get the slight spiceness--the clove & cinnamon. This is way more rich and opulent than the eau de parfum or the EDT, it is intoxicating. It's giving me old money vibes, and I guess Elizabeth Taylor was just that!! I'm not sure what took so long for me to have this fragrance in my collection, but now it won't ever leave. I did myself a favor and also bought the shower gel, body lotion & powder. All these things together is a chefs kiss, as if White Diamonds can't be any MORE long lasting, this makes it so it stays with me the whole day and then some. I love that the body powder has "white diamonds"/shimmer. Makes me feel a little extra. 💎💎💎

Wow! What a surprise gem! Picked up a vintage mini at a thrift store forever ago and I'm ashamed to say the perfume snob in me assumed it would be terrible and I've only now tried it out. Cheap perfumes just used to be made better! White Diamonds parfum is surprisingly complex with impressive longevity and projection. It is very old fashioned, but I absolutely adore it. It reminds me of old-school White Shoulders parfum, but turned up to 11 with modern ingredients. The lovely warm spicy and fresh undertones help cut through all the florals and prevent it from becoming cloying. I'm just so surprised by how good this is! 😄

If you love (or even like) White Diamonds, please do yourself a favor and also buy the matching body wash, lotion and the body powder. The WD body powder is the last bath product that I have purchased, just today, at Meijer, for about $13.00 (2.6 oz powder with puff). My goodness, this smells amazing. Layering this with the body wash and lotion and a little spritz or two of the EDT or EDP or parfum....pure luxury. I can smell more of the spice now in the powder (not distinctly cinnamon or clove, but spicy). I have said it once and I will say it again....sometimes, I wonder why I wear any other perfume.

Review for White Diamonds Parfum Splash: HUGE fan of La Liz, not a fan of her perfumes. After a long awaited second chance with Passion that ended in a scrubbing war, I never thought I would fall in love with one of her perfumes. At first drop one can easily smell why this scent is a best seller. Strong, bold, and beautiful. This one reminds me of a fashionable older woman, maybe in her mid 50's, who knows how to dress, look, and smell. This is one that's a keeper. I may not be 50 just yet but I long to be that fashionable older woman that smells like this. Purely divine.

White Diamonds Parfum is my absolute favorite of the White Diamonds family. It’s a gorgeous, warm rich yellow floral, accentuated by aldehydes and the slight soapiness. It smells very expensive and luxurious. Like any glamorous star from Hollywood’s golden age would wear. The parfum extrait is the EDP and EDT in one beautiful bottle. No sugary cotton candy gourmands here, this is a classic, timeless fresh sensuous floral. Elizabeth Taylor epitomized glamour, and she knew what smelled good! I always have a bottle handy!

I was about 9 spraying this in makeup section at the military version of Walmart on a base with my dad. I was so in love I begged him to buy it for me. However there was a big difference in the EDT and EDP, even I could tell when I got the EDT...however this was the first perfume I was gifted. This is elegant, classy, and timeless. I feel like Elizabeth Taylor knew what she was doing when it came to fragrance, it wasn’t a haphazard mishmash of everything sweet smooth out with vanilla like a lot of celebrity scents.

I haven't smelled the EDT yet, but I really like this pure version. It's so rich, so luxurious. It smells so much better than the edp. I'm testing them both out right now. In the e d p it doesn't smell less clean bred. Well blended erie warm fuzzyn3ss the edp is a fresh smelling a claim, but not the same, and it's not blended. Yeah, equally. I prefer the pure version and it's the only version to get if you want to rock. This classic both are great, but the pure version is the way to go

White Diamonds pure parfum is a strange scent for me. It was the first look into the fragrant jewels for me, but it's the one I like the least - same goes for the EDT. However, in saying all of that, I do find it to still be quite lovely. I understand when people compare this to No 5 by Chanel. It has a similar soapy cleaness to it, but the similarity ends there apart from the mildly aldehydic opening. It's sparkling and very full of tuberose. Bit too strong for me, sadly.

Intoxicating elegance and class in a showstopping bottle! White Diamonds is one of the most iconic fragrances in the world,white flowers power. Story behind it,charities and of course Elizabeth Taylor. Iconic woman. We still have some of ours amazing icons alive, Unfortunely everything gonna fade away one day. Hopefully this beautiful scent can bring us closer to those days that never gonna come back. Luxury in a bottle. Love forever.

I received my bow bottle a few days ago. I have to admit that I adore White Diamonds in all its differing forms. For me, the parfum is a little heavier, less airy than the edt. I smell lillies predominately, followed by ylang and then the aldehydes. I am almost afraid that my bottle has gone off due to a rather unpleasant opening, which is *not* typical of the parfum. Just a word of warning to anyone buying this used.

I got 4 minis (pure perfume) of her Fragrant Jewels for my 33d birthday. It was the best gift I have ever gotten. I love each perfume in this collection, yet White Diamond is the best to me. It really sparkles! One day I sprayed it on my warm scarf and every day (for about 2 weeks) I sniffed and sniffed that scarf while it was hanging in my closet. I love many fragrances, but still White Diamond is the best to me.

I just received the fragrant jewel collection parfum set yesterday, as I wanted to try all the fragrant jewel parfums. White diamonds is my favorite out of the bunch and smells better than the edt. The edt still smells nice, but the parfum smells so luxurious. I am now in search of a lot of minis on ebay so that I can decant them into one of my vintage perfume bottles. I'd much rather wear the parfum than the edt.

I 've found this mini bottle from the seller at Shopee. A rare one to find here. Hope this would reproduce again. The scent is totally different from EDT version. It 's deeper , more Ylang -Ylang and yellowish tone. I think it's tailor made for middle age women aged between 30+. Love it. It made me cried out. The scent is worth to keep it forever. Love little cute bow.

The old perfumes have a great animalic narcissus that reminds me strongly of Chloe (old version/lagerfeld). If you lament Chloe this is a cheap and easy to find replacement. Most of my bottles came from eBay. Different eras, but they all smell good. The oldest though... Strong Chloe resemblance all the way.

Pure perfection in a bottle in my opinion. It's my absolute favourite which smells better the longer I wear it. It just gets deeper and richer by the hour. Heaven!

Omg this is so much better than the Eau De Toilette. I can’t even hardly smell Ylang in the EDT, and yet that’s what screams the loudest in the parfum extrait.

I just found a mini bottle and I am in love! Only I’m going to transfer the liquid into a bottle with an atomizer

This is the best version of White Diamonds. It smells very expensive and elegant. A dab goes a long way.

Ah, White Diamonds. This fragrance and the EDT were my signature scent for so many years, at least seven. My mother kept receiving it as a gift, and I kept taking the bottles and wearing them myself, in high school, and college. I must have run through two or three bottles at least of parfum and eau de toilette, each! Imagine, a fourteen year old wearing this perfume to school in the 2000s. I sure was bold, scent-wise. This was one of the first perfumes I looked up on Fragrantica and tried to dissect - and of course I picked something with way too many notes. White Diamonds was the first perfume I learned to smell distinct notes in, yet I still have a hard time describing it. Simply because, I feel like White Diamonds smells like me. White Diamonds taught me about aldehydes early on. This fragrance is full of them, giving it a bright, sparkling, crystalline and soapy character that I have always loved it. When I wear White Diamonds, I immediately have memories of spraying it on my oversized vintage red wool coat and walking out into the crisp winter night air, walking through my university. The aldehydes sing when they touch the cold air, they come alive and even warm up. There are definitely cloves and a bright citrus here, too - it is actually a bit of a spicy fragrance, although of course it is predominantly floral. There's also something juicy in here, even a little bit fruity, straight out of the bottle. I used to live for that sparkly first white hit of spicy sweet aldehydes, that I never thought to sniff my wrist later to smell the drydown, until year six or seven of wearing this perfume. That's when the beautiful florals come out. Ylang ylang is here, which is such a rare treat! Can you image, a drugstore cheapie featuring ylang ylang? She is here, golden, a little syrupy, but still sparkling around the edges. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I slightly prefer the EDT, just because to my nose, I can more strongly pick out one of my favorite florals, lily, in that formulation. The parfum of White Diamonds is heavier on ylang ylang, more sultry and yes, even more ambery and warm. Which is definitely beautiful, but I do miss my beloved lily in this scent. It's also closer to the skin after about an hour, and doesn't last terribly long, given that it is a parfum. I got my 3.7 mL mini (what an odd size!) in a gift set with a different Elizabeth Taylor perfume a couple of Christmases ago. Smelling this parfum has made me really crave the EDT again...I need to repurchase :)

On me I get an interesting fizzy neroli to the opening - for some reason I'm getting more citrus and less floral than others are. I don't get much spice sadly, it is quite a straightforward powdery soapy yellow/white floral on me. It is much richer and more interesting smelling than Passion though, which is unexpected - on paper Passion seems much more interesting, but White Diamonds does have that real "old money" vibe. Soapy, but Chanel No 5 soap rather than Cashmere Bouquet.

Super "yellow" and very pretty. I wish my vintage pure parfum was stronger, however. It's quite far from the current EDP and EDT. I suppose the parfum hasn't been made for decades now. Note to Lovaloo, below. Re: "this el cheapo Chanel No. 5-alike" White Diamonds "pure parfum" was never inexpensive. It was developed with Elizabeth Arden and it was sold only in upscale department stores. The line went downmarket in price in later years.

Updated review - in warmer weather the florals really come to life! The ylang in particular really sings. Yes, it's very much a one-dab affair but I don't find it to be too much for warm weather at all. However, this is a vintage bottle and I suspect it is mellower than a new bottle would be. Very nice and classy floral, definitely leaning more yellow floral than white floral imo.

Just a gentle suggestion to those whose bottle smells different from expectations: give it a few weeks to macerate. Let it sit a bit, it may improve greatly. Same for other Elizabeth Taylor perfumes.

Aldehydes, tuberose, ylang-ylang, cinnamon bomb. Old-school beauty! Floral, smokey, elegant, creamy and sexy. Love it!

I received a mini splash bottle a long time ago with my bottle of Sparkling White Diamonds. To be honest it just smells like offensive chemicals to me, I don't understand it at all. It's extremely strong. I don't get any florals or anything. Either I hate it or mine has gone off. The bottle is cute though

One of the worst perfumes of ALL time. This is the most nauseatingly strong old lady/bathroom spray you can find. Makes my stomach turn just even thinking about the smell.

These Have Always Brought Me Luck Flashback 1991 I was sitting in my home in Charleston feeling sick to my stomach as I had contracted a stomach flu from my trip to the Far East. I'd just come back from a wonderful travel experience in Japan, India, Sr Lanka, and Thailand. But the downside was the flu. I was in low spirits as I did not want to be sick. After 2 weeks of living like a shut-in, I was giving up. I felt like pardon my French - shit. I did not feel the least bit attractive, I hadn't had a shower in a while & was so depressed. My husband was at the low ebb of his career & his life as a man. He was much older than I was & was nearing retirement. An accident would leave him paralyzed and paraplegic in 1994. I was filled with a strong sense of doom. Without my husband working, we could lose the home. At home, I saw the TV commercial with Elizabeth Taylor for her fragrance White Diamonds, shot in black & white with the men gambling on a table in panama hats and white suits. She walks up to them & takes off a pair of diamond earrings and says: "These have always brought me luck". I thought to myself: well I need luck! I had to be strong for both myself, my husband and my children - although they were already adults by the 90's - in order to survive the long road ahead. White Diamonds came into my life like a therapeutic balsam. A girl friend of mine from Mount Pleasant South Carolina bought a plane ticket for me & we went to New York City where Elizabeth Taylor herself was launching the fragrance at an event at Macy's on Herald Square in Manhattan. We were there for three days to go shopping, go to a spa, get our hair done & buy new clothes. And yes, we watched as Liz Taylor took out a large size perfume bottle (literally the size of a flower vase) of the perfume with an ostentatious "rhinestone that look like diamonds" stopper shaped like a ribbon. The shape of the bottle is like an egg. It was made of glass. These large size bottles were expensive but she also sold them in smaller sizes including even minis. As we had money to spend, we bought the large size bottles. There was no way of knowing what the scent smelled like before then except on a scent strip which is never quite the same as when you smell it off the bottle or on your own skin. On paper it smells like alcohol & soap. When I got back home to South Carolina, I finally wore the fragrance on my skin and let it speak to me. The only way one can experience the original is through the miniature dab-on bottles. The first time I smelled White Diamonds from off that large bottle, I had to step back. POW! Aldehydes. Even for 1991, these aldehydes were quite harsh & a throwback to old school classic aldehydes from the 20's 30s 40's. Think Chanel No. 5. In the 90's, alcoholic content in perfume was more toned down so the White Diamonds opening didn't look promising. What's with all the aldehydes? Why would Liz Taylor think women want to wear this? It smells like grandma's perfume from the 30's. When the aldehydes settle down, the fragrance really begins to reveal her true beauty for you. A subtle citrus follows along the aldehyde trail, not quite an orange blossom but definitely an orange. Even so this is not what I'd call a fruity perfume or even a citrus floral because this has only a dash of citrus. The white floral scents & spices are what I love most about the body of this perfume. There's white flowers galore: tuberose, jasmine, narcissus, and lilies. The tuberose scent is quite heavy, almost like a soapier version of Giorgio Beverly Hills' tuberose. The white flowers are more soapy than powdery, at least in the denser concentration of the parfum and not the toilette which sells today as the replacement for the original. This is not powdery but soapy like white flower scented soap or soap suds on your bubble bath. In this way it resembles my signature scent White Shoulders by Evyan but also fragrances of that same white bubble bath soap like Lanvin Arpege or Chanel No. 22. Liz Taylor must have been interested in wearing a perfume that reminded her of her youth when frags like this were more commercially available but by the 90's were long gone. She had nose Carlos Benaim make it for her to wear, not just for the public. It's a glamorous white floral dreamy perfume from the Golden Age of Hollywood. It's clean but spicy & makes a statement. It does indeed evoke white diamond luster but more like a hazy dream of diamonds. When dry, this perfume is a strange attempt at turning into a spicy Oriental fragrance, not a chypre. There is moss & vetiver, amber & sandalwood, which are common Oriental notes but it is far too cinnamon scented and white floral to ever turn into some darker or smokier Oriental perfume. This has a bright and sharp dry down of moss & amber. Sometimes for whatever reason it smells of ink, I'm guessing that there is an iris in there somewhere as well; or orris root. When iris meets sandalwood you get a kind of inky smell, but it's very pleasant. I don't get any strong patchouli but I am detecting amber. This is a beautiful perfume with a lot going on in terms of spices & florals but it is not as complex as I thought it would be; but that's not putting this fragrance down as it is absolutely beautiful. Ultimately it reminds me of evening wear - a white gown similar to the one Elizabeth Taylor wore in the TV ad, a white sequin gown with shoulder pads or puffy sleeves, sequins and big hair. And of course dazzling white diamond necklaces, bracelets & earrings. It would have made a better splash in the 80's competing with Giorgio Beverly Hills. In fact this scent shares some of the same notes as Giorgio, while smelling like an entirely different. Giorgio in original vintage form was fruitier and more tropical like a perfumed sun tan lotion. This is like a luxurious soap made of the finest ingredients to perfume the body of a mature regal lady while still in her bath tub! For me this was like White Shoulders times ten, far more full bodied and richer, spicier, and more floral. I was in Perfume Heaven. This scent is a heavy hitter and has superior longevity than most other perfumes in the market today so apply with a light hand unless you are a habitual over sprayer and others are used to your strong perfume. It clashes with spicy foods at dinners in five star restaurants, so think about things like that. That's why Giorgio Beverly Hills was banned in restaurants. Strong perfume and aromatic foods and dishes don't go well together. I also really do believe this scent matches up not only with white diamond jewelry but with white pearls. It has a pearly quality that could have led to this scent being called White Pearls. I prefer pearls to diamonds but have worn a few diamond jewelry in my own life. My husband, before he became too old and a paraplegic, used to spoil me with diamonds from Cartier Winston & Tiffany's. This fragrance evokes that same type of luxury. I put on a little of this perfume via the mini dab bottles on my neck and I'm good to go. I see it as being a formal wear dinner time evening wear perfume. It's a romantic perfume to wear for special occasions but can double as a glamorous perfume to wear to big gals, award ceremonies, weddings, the theater, the opera, the ballet, the symphony, or evening soirees. Definitely not day wear nothing casual about it. Don't wear White Diamonds with T shirt and jeans! Who does that anyways? Like a beautiful evening gown, White Diamonds can only match up with your most beautiful formal clothing and whatever sparkling jewelry you own. Glamour! This is a lovely fragrance that should be experienced in every woman's lifetime. I have enjoyed this fragrance since 1991. Over the years they have been god to me these White Diamonds. WHITE DIAMONDS Elizabeth Taylor Nose Carlos Benaim Year 1991 Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend? No Fragrance Is! White Diamonds was never my kind of perfume but I've matured and changed over the years as is the natural order of things. In my middle age, I have enjoyed so many wonderful fragrances from the 60's 70's 80s and 90's some that have come and gone but some that are still with us, like this beautiful creation by Carlos Benaim for the house of Elizabeth Taylor, who had already 2 fragrances in her line: Passion (1987) and Passion For Men (1989). This was her 3rd fragrance and is considered her most commercially successful and her most famous fragrance in her entire line. The Elizabeth Taylor perfumes are exquisite beauties but have the unfortunate association with mature ladies who fondly remember the career of Liz Taylor, the ups, the downs, the triumphs, the disasters, the marriages, the divorces, the children, the movie roles, the beautiful clothes, the jewelry, and her human rights activism. Despite this persistent association with mature or old ladies in perfume, this is still a terrific fragrance designed not for a specific age group, it is for all who want to wear it because of the seduction of scents and the glamorous appeal of Elizabeth Taylor. Benaim formulated a real winner here and it is a luxurious piece of perfumery as can ever be worn and for a steal of a price. This is selling at Wal Marts and drugstores and warehouses for a cheap price but it is not nor ever will be a cheap perfume. This is not some light little scented alcohol from a flea market. Elizabeth Taylor and Carlos Benaim teamed up together to create this fragrance for Liz Taylor herself to wear and for the sake of the public that was already very enamored with her fragrances. She wore White Diamonds herself and kept the large egg shaped diamond-rhinestone bottle in her home in Beverly Hills. The current owners of that estate still honor Taylor's presence and kept the bottle on a table. I fell for this enchantment of a perfume when I smelled it on the mother of a friend of mine here in Manhattan. She loves to wear it on occasion herself but prefers Passion. I thought the aroma was captivating and I was talked into buying a bottle by my friend's mom herself. I hunted for a vintage bottle but could not find the big rhinestone edition. The miniature bottles of pure parfum or concentree is the closest thing to the vintage from '91 as you can get. There is the affordable Eau de Toilette spray bottle which sells everywhere nowadays but it's not the masterpiece that the pure parfum in the mini dab on bottles that are shaped like little glass eggs. The first scent is of aldehydes fresh and startling in it's old fashioned glamour. Smells like a bar of white soap or talc powder, evocative of a woman at her toilette, the ritual of putting on talc powder in front of a mirror in the boudoir. This smells like Elizabeth Taylor in her private dressing room with a star on the door bearing her name at 20th Century Fox studios. On the table are floral arrangements of white flowers of tuberoses, jasmines, and lilies, not to mention white roses. This gets floral very quickly. I don't get any citrus notes other than a neroli and a dash of light bergamot but it's really all about that sweet cloud of powdery aldehydes and white florals. The white flowers that emerge from the depths of the liquid are jasmine, tuberose, white rose and lily. This smells to me mostly of tuberose. It has a creamy buttery tuberose that is more enjoyable (to some) than Giorgio Beverly Hills' tuberose which falls short of people pleasing because it has so many other chemical notes and too many other white florals and that muskiness and patchouli which throw out an atom bomb of a scent. The powder notes courtesy of orris (iris root) and the soothing more soapy balsamic nature of the florals in this perfume give it a friendlier and more approchable air. This smells like a cashmere sweater in white, or a very lovely wrap around the shoulders in white. Glamorous and pristine, dignified, almost haughty and touch-me-not. Virginal but mature, regal, bridal, the Bride of Christ, the Madonna (Virgin Mary). It has a religious air along the Catholic line. Perhaps if it had been made in the 1500's this white lily perfume would have been attractive to Mary Stewart Queen of Scots, but not to her cousin Elizabeth I who would have favored rose and musk or incense. This is a gorgeous dreamy white floral with sweet soap sud of lilies, jasmine petals and narcissus not to mention white roses. The ylang ylang is also noticeable. The spiciness that follows the florals consist of cloves, earthy, a bit green but never too green as to become a chypre or Vent Vert type of green floral or green aromatic woodsy scent. In fact it lacks woodsy notes and the only touch of wood is sandalwood which is surprisingly inky and wet, like sandalwood oil and similar to the ink from Guerlain's Samsara. Not that it smells like Samsara. I just meant that it's got either a similar sandalwood note and amber. In the dry down a calming musk with powder and a very fine amber scent is the dominant accord. It turns into an herbal patchouli with oak moss around it as well. This is well done and all the base note are the kind I look for in fragrances which give it a longevity to admire and a sillage worthy of respect. White Diamonds is so not complex but it does make a statement. It's formal and elegant, imperious, divine, sweet but spicy, powdery but musky, a kind of temperamental perfume that changes moods and has a mercurial personality. You know what it is? It's a diva perfume. This is a diva star in her dressing room or on the set bein a diva. But this diva is so beloved and so warmly welcomed into our own homes. This is a very fitting fragrance tribute to Elizabeth Taylor although I still believe that her debut fragrance Passion is closest to her personality. White Diamonds represents the luxuriousness of the world she was apart of in Hollywood. It's an Old Hollywood aldehyde with white florals that are fresh and powdery, sweet and sumptuous, a fragrance that commands one to tip their hat as she walks past. A glorious gorgeous fume.

I have the exact same splash bottle as it's pictured here on Fragrantica, in their largest size, shaped like a tear drop with a bejeweled stopper. Of course those aren't real diamonds bur rather rhinestones but it's still so beautiful to behold. White Diamonds is Elizabeth Taylor's most successful fragrance. It won a FIFI Award, her 2nd after Passion, and it sold millions. After they discontinued the large bottles, for obvious reasons, they made miniature dab on bottles and the eau de toilette spray bottle. The EDT spray is what has continued to sell up to today. White Diamonds is like a beautiful bath product to me. It smells of expensive luxury soap, lily-scented, with a lot of other notes in it's rich and ravishing composition. This is an aldehyde perfume and it's very old fashioned aldehydes which means they're pretty strong. The aldehydes soften a bit to reveal white flowers. White Diamonds? White Flowers! White lilies are at the heart of this scent. Beautiful white lilies. There is also a major tuberose fragrance. This fragrance is very peculiar. Some call it old fashioned, mature and glamorous but the only Elizabeth Taylor connection I keep getting is the image of Liz Taylor as Susannah in Raintree County when Montgomery Clift first takes a look at her as she is being photographed and holds white lilies. This is a Southern belle fragrance. It's classy, elegant, womanly, and sassy. Spicy cinnamon and cloves surround the lilies in a magical elixir. There's a powdery root of iris giving this scent a dash of powder and it mingles with soapy amber. The scent dries down to oak moss. Elizabeth Taylor must have smelled amazing wearing this perfume. I still have the large bottle which I have yet to finish but after all these years it smells more of oak moss than white lilies. I enjoy the EDT as well because it's more powdery and pleasant; the aldehydes are not as heavy as in the pure parfum. A must have for all fans of white florals and aldehydes as well as fans of the inimitable goddess Elizabeth Taylor.

I have a miniature dab on bottle. It's the tiniest perfume in my collection. Fits in my pocket. I used it up quickly because I was trying it out/testing it to see if I liked it enough as my wedding day fragrance. My wedding is not till the end of the year and I have not yet decided what fragrance to wear. Nothing is more difficult than finding the right perfume. This is a white floral on steroids. It is oily, inky, sweet but powerful. It starts off with aldehydes and neroli as well as orange. Smells really strong at first but it softens into lilies, white lilies, some additional flowers of narcissus, ylang ylang, jasmine and mainly tuberose. If you like tuberose this is a mega tuberose. It's really much better as a sits close to your skin oil than a spray. If this is in the air around you it might be too heavy especially to others that smell it on you. There was something that reminded me of vanilla but I have learned that gardenia is a vanilla smell. This is a gorgeous fragrant gardenia perfume. Gardenia is not listed as being in this but I swear it's there. Just a lot of fragrant white flowers. It smells very classic, Old Hollywood, glamorous. It smells soapy and clean, pristine like something that you admire but don't want to touch. Like a perfect ivory white bathroom in an expensive mansion that isn't yours. It brought fuzzy hazy images to my mind. In a white gauze filled lens I could see Elizabeth Taylor in her dressing room as she smelled some white flowers of gardenia and jasmine and tuberose on her dressing room wearing a white gown and sparkling with white diamond necklace and earrings. Everything about this scent is white. It's got more of a spice than a brilliance. For a "white diamond" scent I would actually say that it fits Chanel No. 22 and First by Van Cleef and Arpels. This is a more realistic bunch of white flowers together in a small room releasing their aroma. Beautiful.

This is a beauty! I don’t know if it’s for me to wear, and what I mean is I don’t believe it is a fragrance I will really get a lot of enjoyment from while I’m going through my day. I bought it because my gma who raised me had many perfumes including White Diamonds, and I’ve bought a few things I knew she had so I could have a little link to her (including my now beloved Chanel No 5 collection). She wore the EDT, which I bought right before I purchased two mini egg style parfum bottles off of Mercari. These absolutely remind me of her. But the parfum is a more grand version. It’s golden, luxurious, doesn’t smell cheap, and it SINGS. Literally, a couple dabs and that is all you need. Hell, even one dab will do. I even poured a few drops into an unscented lotion to make it smell beautiful when I put it on before bed. I’m still trying to bring myself around to Tuberose (read: force myself to enjoy it), but I really wish I could find a scent that smelled like the opening and stayed that way. I know many folks don’t enjoy aldehydes, but I do. I love them. I think the opening of this is so clean and refreshing, makes me think of all white silk pajamas and a nice lotion as you get ready for bed. But it dries down to something more glorious. Old Hollywood vibes is a very good comparison to this. Will give it more time and love as I really hope to be able to wear this confidently one day. 🥀

This is beautiful and lacks the appreciation it deserves . The EDT is lovely , but this EDP Perfume is superior in my opinion . It seems slightly more complex and I small a soft floral note . How anyone can accuse WD of being loud or screechy is beyond me . It simply is not . It is sophisticated, elegant , feminine and incredibly well made for the price. As a matter of fact it is one of the best perfumes I have ever purchased, and I would never want to be without it . I frequently layer a spritz of WD with almost any amber or spice scent and get a great result, like Poeme or Amarige . WD layers beautifully with many other perfumes . If this were made by Thierry Wasser or Tom Ford the bottle would sell like hot cakes and for a high price .It is a perfume I consider classically feminine and suited for many generations . It is not dripping in sugar or fruit , nor is it intensely floral . I see nothing loud about it at all . If you have overlooked this for years, as I did, don’t cheat yourself out of one of the BEST SELLING perfumes of all time that lasts the entire day .You will be surprised how wearable and versatile this one is .

I gave my mother the large diamond encrusted bottle as a gift. It was and is still very hard to find. It was sold to me by a vintage fragrance collector in the Caribbean. This is a luxurious mature perfume for women who are 50 and up. I don't mean that only women who are 50 and up should wear it, because fragrances do not have an age and can be worn by whomever the hell wants to wear them; but Elizabeth Taylor said it herself that she created this perfume, as well as Passion, her debut fragrance, for herself to wear and Liz Taylor was herself 50 and up at the time of this frag's release. It even smells better on older women. This is an overpowering heavy strong scent of tuberose and cinnamon. It's super spicy, white floral, aldehydic fragrance. I wanted to love this but the pure parfum as not wearable. It's like one big spicy bomb made of white flowers and cinnamon. I prefer to wear the more powdery Eau de Toilette but only rarely and for formal events. It smells great but it's not for everyone. You can call yourself lucky if you can even find a large size of the bottle pictured above.

With regard to notes and overall scent profile, the parfum and the EDT of White Diamonds are fairly similar. Earlier (in the 20th Century), different concentrations of fragrance were usually designed to be as close as possible in this regard. Only in recent decades has there been a strong trend for dramatically adding or subtracting notes across different scent concentrations. All the same, there are a few noticeable differences between the parfum and the EDT that are worth mentioning. The top notes present more vividly in the EDT, especially the neroli and the aldehydes. This gives the EDT a brighter, greener opening. Of course, My bottle of the parfum is both a dab bottle and somewhat older than my EDT spray bottle; age and application method being two factors that might reduce the intensity of the top notes. Conversely, the cinnamon and amber notes are more prominent in the parfum concentration, giving it a slight suggestion of an oriental aspect that the EDT does not have. Overall, I enjoy both concentrations, though ultimately i choose to wear the EDT more often.

I was shopping at Walmart in the frozen food section when my nose caught wind of something wonderful. I followed the scent and asked this nice glamorous lady what she was wearing. She said “White Diamonds”. I was surprised and said “White Diamonds”???!!! I got hold of a small parfum from eBay hoping it would be the one the lady had on. From the dabber bow mini bottle, one drop each wrist and it was intense. After 30 minutes a nice bubblegum cloud scent surrounded me. If you wear this, I suggest to allow the top notes to dissipate before going out. I’m glad to have this little work of art in my collection. The body wash is coming in the mail!

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and hoping it is ok to post a question as opposed to a review. I joined Fragrantica to ask, where can I purchase this! I live in Australia and have access to White Diamonds EDT in store, EDP online but I cannot locate the Parfum at all. I have loved this fragrance for years and only have a vague memory of the Parfum via the tiny splash bottles you used to get in gift sets. If anyone could please direct me to where I can purchase the Parfum version, please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you kindly.

I've received a White Diamonds mini perfume & decided to give this a try today. Right out of the bottle it is too sweet/powdery for my taste.I can't detect specific notes.After 2 minutes some ylang- ylang... 3 minutes a strong orange peel...still overwhelmingly sweet for me....5 minutes in its calming down a bit...smoothing out a bit....usually by this point I know if I like it. I think this may be a scrubber for me. Still just overly sweet baby powder to my nose.I love some of the ET fragrances , but I guess ya can't win em all.
