Cri Du Kalahari

If I need to give one word to this: soliwood. It opens with the fresh and piney punch of cypress and pepper, just like Comme des Garçon's Wonderwood. Then the major players - cedarwood and sandalwood comes out in few minutes. The cedarwood here is not the creamy/lactonic Virginia cedar (as you'd get in Diptyque's Tam Dao), but rather the slightly dirtier smelling Atlas cedar. It's like walking around in a carpenter's shop while he's chopping and dusting the cedar tree trunks. For the sandalwood, I'm afraid it takes more time to notice - perhaps with a lazy nose and when you are out or if you are smelling this on someone else. Assuming the sandalwood note is created by synthetics such as Javanol, Pashminol, Ebanol, Bacdanol, Sandalore etc. it'll surely require one to experience this scent on different settings and times as these molecules can be hard to get in one two quick wear. So need to give this fragrance more time to discover all its facets - but overall very good woody release, though I think the price is on the higher side.

I really enjoyed this. I found it very unique. If you like wood, you will love this. This smells like a very delicious, smooth and creamy Sandalwood. That's where all the Santal 33 comparisons are coming from. (Santal 33 is nice but has terrible performance). Right next to that Sandalwood is some fresh cut cedar. I've cut plenty of cedar fense boards and this is very realistic cedar smell. The combo is super nice. I love the blending, the 2 woods are so even. Sometimes you think the cedar is pulling ahead and sometimes the Sandalwood. But they stay even. Longevity is great, and projection is above average. The only drawback is it's pretty linear. Could be a signature scent. 8.2/10.

It's glorious! Everything is about cedarwood, sandalwood and their marriage under the stars in the desert. It's a bit green and bitter in the opening and gets dry and woody after the first hour. Here and there there are tiny peekaboos of sweetness but it still remains a major resinous-woody fragrance with intoxicating sandalwood accord Truly of the best woody scents released in the last decade. So well crafted and speaks volumes on the skin. Longevity is excellent, sillage easily arm's length. Men would probably appreciate this fragrance more often but on warm skin it's very much unisex.

very underrated house and no one talks about this beauty right here. It reminds me a little bit of by Kilian sacred wood maybe fresher more versatile version and also a lot stronger in the performance department. This here lasts well over 10 hours on my skin and projects well for about 3 hours. A must try in my opinion. one more thing i wish i would be able to describe a fragrance as @Roge' did in the comment before me. 30-June-2020

A perfume that can be described by what is it _not_: Not sweet, not flowery, not green, not the slightest vanilla or citruses of any kind - and that is good for me. Baobab wood? Perhaps, I would have guessed sandalwood. Some lacquer solvent, not acetone, though - or several gallons of IsoE super, woody, dry and chemical. The pepper and the hint of suede in the dry down save it for me and so it becomes a summer worthy scent.

heavenly! opens very very black peppery and with some bergamot or lemon, not really sure. Then woods come! it's like a hug, woody creme, sandalwood and cedar bath, creaminess all over the place. So smooth! beautiful and performs greatly! slightly spicy in the end. That french touch... It actually smells exactely as melted butter and black pepper, almost edible

If you love Santal 33 but don’t want to smell like every basic hipster from 2017 (I may or may not be describing myself), try this out. It’s not the same smell but it’s the same vibe imo. It’s a nice warm woody scent that feels very cozy yet chic. I feel great every time I get a whiff, and it lasts all day. Very SFW but also night out worthy.

I have been testing it today for the second time and to my nose it smells of a woody eucalyptus! Does anyone else also get this? The "eucalyptus" note then segways into a really gorgeous sandalwood. I detect something peppery and slightly sweet too. Very pleasant scent, really long-lasting and with decent projection. Totally unisex.

It's a very dry wood scent, sandalwood, pencil shavings. No sweetness, which makes it very versatile and totally unisex. Fairly linear fragrance (a plus in my book). Performance and sillage are outstanding, so much that this is a fragrance that I do not spray on my chest but only on wrists and back of the neck. I'm a big fan.

I get a sandalwood dominated fragrance. Yes it is along the lines of Kilian’s Sacred Wood, but out of the two I prefer Scared Wood. To me Sacred Wood is woodier and creamier and has a better performance on my very cool skin. This is not a bad scent if you like woody sandalwood, but on my skin the performance was one of the worst. It disappeared in less than fifteen minutes. A pass for me.

Perfect description by katrin.niisuke. Opening is quite green bitter-sweet. Reminds me of Radio Bombay. This one doesn't have slightly metallic, copper feel that Durga has. Makes it easier to wear. Drydown is mostly woody, but not boring, not too dry not too sweet. All year round scent. Perfectly unisex. Can't wait to test other Ella K fragrances. Overall 9/10

Santal 33 like but without the pickle juice (which I love 😂). Very dry and autumnal wood, it also reminds me of Genetic Bliss on the first few hours, second half of the day it turns a bit more sweet & boozy on me, very cozy. Projection and longevity are good, two sprays have lasted a solid 12 hours and still going strong.

I don't know how baobab smells, but this scent if all about sandalwood to me. As many already mentioned, it's resembling Santal 33 and Sacred Wood, both sandalwood-centered scents. I also feel a bunch of iso-e-super and peppercorn (similar to Glossier You). Ella K has decent scents, so I definitely recommend sampling it.

I like the combination of sandalwood and cedar-wood very much! The sillage is huge and so is the longevity: this is a perfume you can smell all day long, and the people around you too. I don't particularly like the green pepper in it, which, to me, makes it unpleasantly sharp.

Stunning woody fragrance - this is on the creamy and milky side of woody, similar vibes to Radio Bombay, Sunny Side Up or even Tam Dao. Nice and high quality, but not a standout in the sandalwood world of which I am a fan of. But a good contender if you like your woods creamy.

Very nice version of Sental 33. A bit more light, some coconut hints. Seats better on me than Sental 33

This scent is dry, exactly like the desert. It's giving a bit of Santal 33 and sadly it is not very interesting to me. It is too "dry" if that makes sense. It is good for minimalists who want to smell refined, edgy, a little bit bohemian - it's definitely unisex. I'd wear it in spring.

Opens with a cool-woody impression that is, as other posters have already mentioned, similar to Santal-33. However, this dries down to a very different, dry-woody place. Probably some iso-e present here (woody-musk) as well as peppercorn. Overall worth a sample.

A synthetic middle eastern take on woods (Santal 33???). I get a nail polish remover smell, too sharp for me...i dont really dig it all that much

The fact she's used some generic woody aroma-chemical I've smelled a million times before, and nothing else, then had the audacity to say the note is "baobab"... Just please give me a break. Molecular woody snoozefest. Probably costs about 0.00001 dollars to make a gallon of it.

I don't have a slightest idea what a baobab supposed to smell like, but I doubt this is it. This is a nail polish remover, or a cheap eukalyptus air freshener mixed with maybe some sandalwood... And something else, something worse... I am not enjoying this experience at all, I am about to throw up after smelling it on my skin.

No doubt, you can tell this was curated by someone adept in perfumery. This santal fragrance arrives like a persistent and unexplained radar-bleep from the heavens. This is the right fragrance for the right person, a thing of effortless beauty forged under a mountain of cedar, musk and peppercorn. The sandalwood will be the star of your personal show as it creates an enticing silkiness akin to Charlotte's Web and it lasts for hours without overwhelming. Pink peppercorn and cedarwood works in tandem and it's a wonder that any other notes would have room to breathe with those two taking up so much of the emotional space. Depending on your skin type, Cri du Kalahari could be your masculine fairytale or if you're a woman; perhaps a 2nd skin. A solid and engrossing effort that is much, much better than it had any right to be.

Very dry sandalwood scent. I guess for Santal 33 lovers, it is very strong and has a very slight touch of sweetness in the drydown, unfortunately it also smells very chemical in the base...ambroxan, Iso E super, harsh musk...I never saw or smelled a baobab in my life but I do know how to identify harsh chemical scents...the drydown gets a little better but still not something I would wear...

Bubbly beach foam and cedar huts! I get a combination of clean bubble soap with doses of musk, cedar, woods, and slightly salted sea foam. I get as well some sweet touch and i believe it could be the bamboo mixed with musk vanilla. It's nice but some other blends from this house is better than this one. Nice.

More sharpen herbs and peppers with Sacred Wood (By Kilian), or less musky Santal Blush (Tom Ford)
