Dear Sky

Hear me out: Does ANYONE remember the Barbie that came with the solid perfume? Maybe...early 90s??? THIS IS WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE. I FOREVER THOUGHT THAT SCENT WAS A FEVER DREAM. So, there’s my uneducated nose for you. 90s Barbie perfume. And I’m here for it. Inoffensive. Simple. A good “gym” scent, or office scent, for those who are looking for something like that. Clean. Fresh. Just pretty. Big fan. I get the Tommy or other similarities people are saying they get, but this is different to me. Might be worth a full bottle. I’ll probably blow through my travel size quick. Definitely a spring/summer scent. But again. If you want a gym or office perfume, or just a simple showered fresh girl smell? This. I’d argue unisex but it’s a stretch. Silage not tested but I imagine based off what I smell it’ll be an arms length, 3 hour full scent, after that, closer. Update: apparently it was “Hawaiian Fun” Barbie. Indeed from the 90s. I need someone to verify the scent but I saw on a Reddit post Marc Jacob’s Daisy smelled “similar”. So I may be onto something because people are drawing the comparison here.

Ellis Brooklyn’s Dear Sky feels like slipping into something sheer and luminous, like expensive lingerie, or the first silk blouse of spring against bare skin. The fragrance opens with a crisp splash of honeydew and tart rhubarb, softened by a leafy strawberry green. I like this one! It's got a vibe to it that projects an air of nostalgia... and I mean that in a very good way. There is nothing here that is annoying or sharp. In recent years, it seems like a lot of perfumes are produced to last for days on your skin, which means that there is always a brutally sharp base note that sticks like glue... Dear Sky is not brutally sharp. Dear Sky is sweet, light, smooth and it makes me smile. I like it a lot!

On my skin, this smells fresh, light, and clean—like floral soap with a hint of melon. It’s a classic “fresh out of the shower” scent. It brings to mind someone polished and put-together: business casual, silver jewelry, slicked-back hair. Pleasant, inoffensive, and easy to wear, but certainly nothing unique or groundbreaking. There’s likely a more affordable dupe that delivers a similar result.

this is absolutely beautiful. it reminds me a little bit of the original juicy couture edp (or at least the body spray). it sprays fresh and fruity without being shampoo-like, and i can't stop sniffing the woody tuberose drydown on my wrist. this totally exceeded my expectations, i'll probably buy a full bottle

So far out of the memoir set this has been my favorite. A lot of people compare it to daisy wild by Marc Jacobs, which I must admit I have yet to smell, but I can definitely imagine this scent being in the daisy line. So so good.

The perfect gym scent in my opinion. Clean, watery florals with the melon note adding freshness and a slight sweetness. As far as clean scents go I really Iove this one as it’s brightened by melon rather than citrus.

Reminds me exactly of Moschino Hippie Fizz (discontinued) on the top notes. Settles into something more mature- and I'm getting fresh, uplifting citrus. This fragrance is manic, and I'm here for it.

A great scent for the spring and summer! Reminiscent of Avon perfumes from the 70s! A pretty, feminine scent!

the scent card my sample came with said that the perfume is inspired by "suncatchers, crystal prisms, radiant energy, and the american west." while im not getting very much american west (at least as a westerner myself) i do like this perfume. it's very early 2000s, fresh, and sort of sweet. it reminds me of that avon cucumber and melon body wash, or the adidas fruity rhythm perfume that was very popular in like 2008. it isn't necessarily a standout perfume, but that being said, if you want something that smells clean, fun, fresh, and sweet for an everyday situation i could see this being perfect for school or work. i don't believe in perfumes being suited to specific ages (you like what you like!) but this is evocative of those clear crisp spring mornings in high school when you first step out of the house. its definitely an uplifting smell. i can see someone in a tight neon polo from hollister and a straightened deep side part rocking this while texting on their blackberry. the longevity isn't the best, and it has low sillage, but i think that's for the best, because if this was a strong smell it might give me a headache. i think it's perfect for the niche it fills. these sort of scents are way less common now than when i was a kid!

I haven't tried it on skin just on a card. I usually always spray a card and go back on a seperate occasion to spray on skin if it passes the card test. But from the card it smells very nice actually. The most prominent note to my nose is the melon. Not an over ripe melon though, but more of a just ripened melon. The other notes are somewhat indistinct to me. It's truly a safe/soft fruity perfume. Maybe not a signature scent. Its another nice fruits scent for the perfume collectors amongst us. I like this brand alot & I have a full bottle of Apple Love on my shelf. I am currently looking for a green fragrance as my next perfume. Update: Oh who am i kidding... I might end up with the travel spray!! lol

Another pretty, generic fruity floral. I was interested in trying this because of the rhubarb, which is one of my favorite notes. Unfortunately, I don't get any of the tang of rhubarb; this fragrance is very sweet, in an unbalanced way. It's very strawberry-forward, and I wish they'd actually managed to capture that unique blend that makes strawberry rhubarb a popular combo. I do like the galbanum in the dry down; the greeness both balances out and complements the sweet fruity notes. This actually lasted about 6 hours on me, but sat close to the skin the entire time. If you're a fruity floral fan like me, you probably already have something that smells like this, and likely performs better.

2014 in a bottle. This smells like the Paul Smith Pink Wall in LA and color block Triangl bikinis. Fun and fresh but slightly generic when first sprayed. The florals and sour rhubarb come through pretty strongly for the first ten minutes. Ends up drying down to a really pretty peppery/musky floral. This is so overpriced though. I got it as a sample with my Ipsy and while I’m tempted to grab a travel size for the summer, nothing in this perfume warrants its price point. There are better tuberose perfumes for less. I will say, this has a decent longevity (nothing mind-blowing though), and the sillage is moderate — which is getting to be a bit rare in fragrance.

This is so pretty and girly. It’s a very green bouquet of roses and peonies with a touch of fruitiness. It also has a freshness about it without veering on soapiness. I guess you could categorize it as a fruity floral; however, it’s much heavier on the flowers than the fruit. I can’t really pick out the honeydew melon. I’ve seen others say this scent is not unique, and I kind of agree, but that doesn’t stop me from liking it a lot. You may already own something like this, but if you don’t, this would make a beautiful summertime signature scent.

Beautiful bottle - simply one of the prettiest I've seen in a while. Scent is also pretty - a typical rose fresh green scent. NOT bad at all - however for me - someone with near 550 scents in my collection - this is not needed - I do not dislike it AT ALL - but I do not really need anymore "green rose" scents - they all kind of smell the same. Most of the comparisons above are right on - they're very similar - again not bad - however I don't need - so I am glad I only did a travel spray.

This is Tommy Girl but without the freesia. I adore freesia, so I picked up on it right away. I do like this scent, but it is overpriced (IMO), and it does disappear rather quickly. I bought a travel size of this at TJ Maxx, for less then $15, and I would have been disappointed if I had paid the $30 MSRP directly from the brand. I have Florist, and Vanilla Salt from this brand, both bought full price, and those two are totally worth it. This one is a bit underwhelming.

I tried a sample of this. As others have said, this scent starts out with a fruity, juice-like smell and dries down into a more floral and green scent. It smells nice, but it also smells pretty unexciting. It’s giving generic body mist. After a few hours, I’m left with the ambrette which smells really pleasant but sits extremely close to the skin.

Clean, green and light floral scent. Great for casual wear, daily wear, spring or summer. Its a little fruity (which my wife prefers in her fragrances) but remains fresh, not juicy or sweet. Youthful, but not juvenile. An unobtrusive, inoffensive fragrance that is safe for the office or school.

This is the 2000s Frutiger Aero aesthetic in fragrance form. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, think microsoft windows, glossy textures, splashy aquatics, tropical fish, cloudy skies. Melon meets iso-e. Nostalgic yet full of optimism for some kind of imagined future. I like it!

This is a bright, fresh floral—truly spring in a bottle. It’s an instant mood booster: uplifting and feminine. I can overspray without worrying about it ever becoming overpowering or offensive, which makes it the perfect carefree choice for everyday wear in the warmer months.

This is a floral freshy that reminds me of some of the popular fragrances from the late 90's. It's in the same vein as Clinique Happy and Estee Lauder Pleasures, but this has its own nuances. I enjoy it, and the sharpness (not negative) does well in the heat and humidity.

Haven't smelled the perfume yet, but the bottle is very pretty. Looking at bottle it gives ethereal dreamy cloud vibes. I think of whipped cream, musk mallow, pear, cashmere type of perfume. But apparently this is a freshie! Bottle doesn't match the scent profile.

I originally got this in the summertime, but grew to like it more as a fall fragrance. Maybe the cooler weather makes the nuances of the fragrance bloom? I think it smells great with sweaters and gives a cozy, fresh green aura. It lasts forever on me (24+ hours).

Dear Sky and Miami Nector are the best of the lines if you're into fruity scents for spring/summer. Dear Sky is so intriguing with the sweet, fresh, and green notes coming together. It's smells like you're levitating. I love the gradient bottle, too!

This is pretty but super basic. It smells like Tommy Girl and Sun Fruit were mixed together with the majority of the mixture being Tommy Girl. It is weak to moderate in projection and for me, a summer/warmer months type of fragrance.

This is the essence of spring. I imagine dewy grass and beautiful flowers. It really resembles the spirit of something in the Replica line — quite nostalgic. Very bright, uplifting citrus that doesn’t last long but smells great.

The opening is a sweet blast of zesty citrus and is very green. Upon dry down, the zest dissipates and it becomes a shampoo-y candied citrus with a light floral in the background to round it out.

Joining the club... yeah, I thought it smelt familiar too! It really is so similar to tommy girl. I'll do a side by side comparison but from my memory it rings true. Will update.

This is a nice, clean scent that puts me in the mind of Lake and Skye Azure. While easy to wear, I don’t know that I feel it is worth the price. It’s nice but not amazing.

Smells similar to Daisy Wild, which is a scent I love. It's a shame that it looks like the longevity isn't any better. I must say Miss Brooklyn is stepping up her game!

Reminds me of like a sweet honeysuckle scent with a hint of melon. Very very pleasing scent! Unique but not “different”.

This is a very safe scent, just like Chanel Chance Eau Tendre. It is clean, nice and gentle but nothing spectacular.

Peony and honeydew with a bit of tang. Fruity but not overly sweet or juvenile. Great Spring scent.

on first spray smells pretty much exactly like d&g light blue. fades into a more flowery base 6/10

More fruity version of poppy and barley Jo Malone

Ellis is one of my favorite perfume houses! And perfumer Honorine Blanc has created a large number of my favorite perfumes (Black Opium, Rose de Grasse, La Nuit Tresor, Killian 'Princess', the list goes on) so I was super excited to smell this. It arrived at my house this morning! I sprayed it on skin and clothes and gave it an hour. For me, Dear Sky is a bit of a let down in how safe and boring it is. I feel like I have smelled this at Sephora a dozen times in any given year (and reminds me very much of the Love Shack Fancy scents). Maybe she was held back by the creative team at Ellis Brooklyn because this perfume is one of the more boring I've smelled in a while. This is a soapy green floral and I cannot detect the fruit, wood or amber. Smells like a hair spray on the dry down. It's something I might've smelled in high school in the early 2000's (Viva la Juicy, Betsy Johnson, etc). Dear Sky is very similar to lots of other things Honoring Blanc has created so take a look through her perfumes and you'll get an idea of what she does. Lots of very safe, girly scents to her credit. There's nothing bad about Dear Sky but it doesn't deserve a spot on my shelf. It smells similar to one of my favorite scents, Paul Smith Rose, but the Paul Smith is more complex and gets me plenty of compliments.

I sprayed this in store and was mostly mesmerized by the pretty bottle. I was already nose blind by that point so it was a bit hard for me decipher what it was, I knew I wouldn’t be buying it that day. I found it at another store within the hr and was able to see the notes and more of a description. It was still a bit subtle, maybe some sweet fruity florals, but not headachey. I don’t own anything yet by this line, surprisingly what caught my eye the most was one of the body mists as one had a very beachy vanilla coco vibe I liked. I think this is fine but I’ve smelled the apple one when it came out and I’m not a fruity girl, but if it isn’t mixed with a dozen other scents I don’t mind, and found the apple one to be a want, but not yet, cause it was summer. I was mostly excited about testing out vanilla salt but think I mistook the other vanilla for it or it wasn’t properly organized. When I tested vanilla salt, I think I preferred the reg salt, and the vanilla milk. Anyways, pretty bottle, scent isn’t memorable.

One complaint about Ellis Brooklyn in general...all of their new scents are fruity florals or something vanilla. Since they have discontinued most of their older perfumes, I've been disappointed overall. This is a review from a sample. ADVERTISED AS THE AMERICAN WEST. ummm...nope. This smells nothing like that. Or prisms. Or dreamcatchers..honestly. This is just another fruity floral. It is in a pretty bottle. This is clean, light and fresh. Not a great performer. It is nice, but not as advertised. It's not that I don't like it, but I was expecting something different...with grass...sand..leather... cactus blooms . something Western. If fruity florals are your thing, this one is for you. But, don't expect the wild West. I think I will pass.

Next up on my Ellis Brooklyn discovery set is Dear Sky. Florals are not my thing, but this wasn't a bad floral. It was a light and airy floral while slightly fruity. This is definitely a feminine and clean girl scent. For a floral, I liked that this wasn't a heavy or cloying floral. Performance is pretty poor with this one so not going to be a good choice for those who want beast mode. This is a generally likeable and mass appealing scent. Safe for use in office settings. I recently saw this at TJ Maxx so if this scent profile appeals to you, check your local discounter. Not a profile that I care for so this will be a pass for me.

Nondescript green floral. I was suckered in by the bottle, but at least I only got a travel spray. All I smell is peony. This is pleasant all around-very fresh, floral, clean, casual scent that would work for any occasion that isn’t fancy or nighttime. This house is definitely a hit or miss and I think this one’s a miss for me. Works well for the clean girl aesthetic but is overall very very boring. There are tons of other great “clean” scents out there that do the same job if not better for a fraction of the price. Try before you buy.

I don't hate it. Smells like one hundred other modern fruity floral fragrances and the marketing using the desert +crystal prisms + suncatchers + radiant energy is sure to appeal to the woo woo girls out there. I get a bit of pencil shavings on my skin. Smells inexpensive but not in an offensive way. I will only use this as air freshener or to freshen my linens/sheets. When I asked my husband his opinion, he said it smells like something from Bath & Body Works - which for him means ordinary.

(based on a sample) This was a fail for me. This to my nose, could be a Elizabeth Arden Green tea flanker. It's just way too high of a price tag to pay, to smell like you just put on a green tea flanker. It's not bad, I like the green tea line, but I wouldn't pay this kind of money for that. It's not a bad scent at all, but not for me.

Clean, green and kind of generic to me? I'm getting the bergamot and the strawberry leaves. I got a tester of it in my ipsy thing. it's a fine smell, just a little more feminine than i usually wear. it sits close to the skin, so it'd probably be good in an office. I'll edit this when i figure out how long it lasts.

I know nothing about this fragrance but tried the sample and was suddenly whisked back to junior high when I wore Tommy Girl. As it has dried down, I am getting less Tommy girl... it is pleasant but not anything mind blowing for me. Pretty. Relatively complex. But not especially gorgeous or unique.

Reminds me of something I could've found in Bath & Body Works in the late 00s or early 10s. Nothing super special, but pleasant enough. Not worth the price tag when you could go grab anything off the shelf at B&BW for half the price and have the same scent, longevity, and projection.

This one is truly floral, green, aromatic, and fresh. It opens sharp and citrusy, almost like a high-end air freshener. It’s clean and bright, packed with zesty notes, but it doesn’t pull me in. Nice, but not something I feel compelled to own. Just not a favorite for me.

This reminds me of something Ouai would release. I got suckered into the bottle hoping you could smell the fruity notes but I really just get a soapy floral. I don’t hate it but don’t think the bottle or the marketing campaign align with the actual smell I’m getting.

It’s okay, fresh and flowery, couldn’t pick out any specific prominent notes in the opening but as the day progressed I could only smell ambroxan. Bang average, doesn’t stand out in any way but also not particularly offensive

I’m glad I went with the sample size. It is sharp at first. Melon definitely and hangs around. Reminds me of body products and shampoos. Then it is strongly peony floral with amber musk.

It's a light and sweet peony scent. The peony and melon are the most pungent notes, followed by a green and musk undertone. It's not offensive or mature, but it's just not my vibe.
