Fable

I don't want to like Ellis Brooklyn fragrances because they are so skinny girl vegan, but I have to admit, they really work on my skin. And they work for my guys, who like natural outdoorsy perfumes. This is a fragrance I can wear in the Pacific Northwest where heavier perfumes smell too musky, tropical, and out of place, like high heels. For me it starts with Neroli and pettigrain and, yes, black current. A wonderful opening. And finally, thank god, honeysuckle. Everyone has their happy nose place, and mine is honeysuckle. And it is hard to find a good honeysuckle perfume that doesn't disappear in minutes. It hasn't got much sillage, but compared to many modern light fragrances (I am talking to YOU, Demeter), it sticks around for a few hours, being nice the whole time.

I'm super surprised jasmine isn't one of fable's notes. My dad has a sambac jasmine plant in his garden and this smells *exactly* like it. Like, it is dead on. This is what my hands would smell like when i would make garlands with the blossoms when i was little. It's so fresh and nostalgic. I love it. It is not at all a complex fragrance on me; it's all floral, no amber or cedar emerges at any point. I had the eb sampler, so i tried layering it with raven like I saw another reviewer here suggested and wow, they really do work amazing together. I finally got a full sized bottle (a couple of eb fragrances are on a good sale on sephora right now) after hoarding the sample size for a really long time.

While there are a diversity of notes when I first spray this, the dry down is almost entirely amber and cedar on me. Frankly I'm here for it. There's a tiny amount of floral sweetness, honeysuckle I guess, but again, it is overwhelmed by the base notes. I think if you are expecting more floral and citrus, you may be disappointed. If you like a hearty amber and cedar, you will be pleased.

I really like thos one do much. But wish it came in a travel spray...im so fickle with perfume Nd already bought two others in this line. I love love love that it's clean and cruelty free. So I am sure I will purchase. Its so clean and beautiful the opening is gorgeous the woods and Amber are amazing. Nothing in this line smells like anything else to me. So I really want all of them!!!!

Why oh why did they discontinue this perfume? It’s one of their best. Yes, it does smell like laundry detergent, but a bougie (and not harsh) detergent. It’s so fresh and clean! The neroli and honeysuckle adds some sweetness to it and the violet.. SO beautiful! A fresh, clean and powdery scent. Truly wonderful. I have to find a bottle asap.

Sylvan and diaphanous and clothed in the most elfin shades of bittersweet green—tender new leaves, honeysuckle nectar, a hidden freshwater stream. So unbelievably pretty, and I’m devastated that the longevity is literally half an hour on my skin.

This reminds me of a slightly less floral version of Stella by Tocca. I really like this, and I'm not even a fan of neroli (I got this as part of their sample set). I do get a hint of actual orange in this, which is pleasant.

This happy honeysuckle scent has really grown on me. I mix it with EB's Myth when I need a bit more depth.

this is genuinely such a beautiful fragrance. i immediately get a very strong honeysuckle note, along with neroli. i would say the honeysuckle is so strong that i now consider this a "honeysuckle perfume" as that's mainly all i can smell. i have honeysuckle in my backyard, so i compared it to this one day, and yeah... i was right. this honeysuckle top note is right there in your face. i disagree with other reviewers that it's in the background. it's definitely the main note of this fragrance. i do get slight notes of neroli and cedar, but they're definitely not as strong as the honeysuckle. you will smell like you've been outside in a very good way. you've just been in a fresh forest blooming with honeysuckle and neroli in the height of springtime. it's a very green and fresh fragrance, however, it's very sweet in a good way. it's a very earthy, green, and floral fragrance that is perfect for spring and summer. im obsessed.

First impression: strong like! I will have to do a full wear test to figure out if it is love. Right off I get fresh citrus and honeysuckle. After a a few minutes there is a slight woodiness that comes through and the citrus has faded out significantly and I can smell more of the violet. So far I think this is a beautiful woody floral scent that will be perfect this spring. Nothing super unique about it, but I do like that woody earthiness that is coming through. It feels like a glade in the middle of a forest mid morning with the rays of the sun just touching the first booms of spring. That woodiness keeps this perfume from being just ‘meh’ for me. The more I keep smelling this, the more I think this will be a keeper for me. I can definitely see me reaching for this often.

The bottle cap is magnetically attached and provides some resistance as I paw to break inside. The logo is stamped on the top of the cap inviting you to the brand. #EllisBrooklynFragrance has always caught my eye with their labels and the way the names overflow to the next line. #Fable starts with a burst of orange citrus, nothing juicy but green orange leaves. The petitgrain and neroli mix with the black currant to create an air that projects the fragrance forward. Beautiful honeysuckle is the star as it dances on the effervescent citrus supported by the violet. During the dry-down, the amber and cedar along with the florals make for fresh laundry notes that are comforting and pleasant. This is a beautiful day wear.

This one does come off as a laundry detergent type of fragrance. It’s not a love, but it is a strong like. There are times I just want to smell clean and fresh. This one does that. Good for work, as I can’t see this one offending anyone. Creates a scent bubble around you, but doesn’t project much. Longevity isn’t outstanding, but on me I can get a good four hours before reapplying. I got a very good deal on Mercari. Almost full bottle for $24. I wouldn’t pay full price for this one, but I’m happy to have it in my collection for what I paid. I will say that the mid gets a little screechy on me. I think it’s that neroli combining with the pettigrain.

This is nice. It opens a bit of a sharp soapy orange blossom. But that settles down very fast. Then the very sweet honeysuckle / orange blossom comes out and that is how it stays for the remainder of the wear on me. It is pretty sweet for most of the wear. Not a photorealistic orange blossom or honeysuckle - which is what I prefer. Still a pretty, clean white floral regardless. It’s not my fave perfume but I could definitely wear it and enjoy it. Main problem is that the longevity is bad. Wears pretty sheer and close to the skin and doesn’t last more than a few hours.

At first spray the citrus is most prominent - beautiful white floral from the neroli and a backbone of woodiness from the petitgrain. Within an hours the citrus floral recede into the background (still very much there though!) and black currant takes over. I don't really get any amber or cedar as individual notes, they're just vaguely there in the background. A tart, fruity citrus scent, very sweet and pretty.

Such a pretty light, fresh floral that brings to mind a field on a breezy summer day. I love the Ellis Brooklyn packaging and the fact that the brand is vegan and phthalate-free.

Do you remember that fable about the freshly-laundered hotel linens? No, me neither. This is a clean, fresh scent that feels more in its element spritzed on a pillow, or maybe a starched white shirt, than on human skin. It's anonymous but also pleasant. Neroli and honeysuckle dominate, with something tea-like, and some sauna-steamed cedar. The overall effect is of "generically fancy soap". There's something a bit impersonal and stiff about all Ellis Brooklyn fragrances, but the pungency of the honeysuckle, in this case, livens it up just a touch more than some of their other offerings. It's a sturdily well-made, dutifully "nice" scent that aims to satisfy but not beguile.

I'm struggling to even write a review on this fragrance, because that's how linear, boring, and flat I find this scent to be. It's not that it's bad, it's just not unique in any way. Honestly, it just kind of smells like laundry - clean, a bit powdery, and fresh, due to that vaguely sweet honeysuckle note that hangs out in the background. Other than that...well, there really isn't anything I can add. That's all it smelled like on me. As far as longevity goes, it becomes a skin scent within the first two hours. I would catch a whiff here or there during that time, but after that two hour mark, I had to hold my arm up to my nose to smell anything.

First minute: I stood up to wash this off, sniffed my arm again, sat right back down. First 5 minutes: This smells JUST like the sugar rim on a margarita. Sugary citrus. I wish it smelled like this the whole time :( 5 minutes forward, the whole scent is: A basement with fresh laundry in it. There is a man in the house with aftershave on, holding a bouquet of white florals. aka laundry sheets (not 1 laundry sheet, but like sniffing the box) with a little fresh cologne nearby and maybe a loose honeysuckle plant outside. And then it's gone within an hour.

LOOOOOOOVE me some citrus, but why is it that when there's neroli in a fragrance it seems to overpower? Every time I come across a fragrance with neroli, I end up passing on it. It doesn't stink—it's ok, to me. Edit: I just found out that the only fragrance I've smelled that gets neroli right (at least for me) is Oscar de La Renta's Something Blue—one of my favorite cheapies. Now I know that's the reason the top notes are so screechy! Something Blue softens up something BEAUTIFUL and has a sophisticated and expensive smell.

It is fresh, green, and citrusy with a hint of blackcurrant. To me, it smells borderline granny-like but a lot fresher. The neroli punches you in the face and doesn't leave. I can't have my wrist near my face or I'll sneeze. Not what I expected but at the same time I didn't expect anything either so. The name doesn't match with the scent, a fable reminds me of earthy tones, powder, and white florals. It's not bad but not unique at all. I will gladly use up my 10ml though.

This is okay. A very strong white floral. Not obnoxiously so, but it lacks complexity on me. It's nice and safe, but not particularly intriguing with my chemistry. If you're looking for a one note white floral, this would be a good try for you.

This reminded me of Sweet Honesty by Avon. Not worth the price they charge. If Sweet Honesty is still available from Avon get that instead if you like this perfume.

this was fine. not fb worthy but not gag inducing like most other ellis brooklyn scents.

Oh Ellis Brooklyn, why do you have to go and be so ethical and make these perfumes that morph so strangely on my skin? On paper, this would be a great scent for me; nothing the least bit unusual or weird for my preferences. Yet, I spray it on and it morphs into the rubber soles from like 80s and early 90s gym shoes. There must have been some sort of regulation in place since because shoe soles don't smell this strongly these days. But that's exactly what it smells like. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted this one to work.

Another sample from the library set that I loved initially, but then the scent fades into nothingness after an hour. It faded so fast, I can't even recall what I liked about it to start with. Disappointing. I wish Ellis Brooklyn would master the lasting power of its perfumes because there are several that smell great, but don't stick around.

This almost smells like clean hotel laundry but not quite- there's something about it that smells like natural bug spray instead. I liked the honeysuckle in the first spray but that lasted for like 2 seconds- now I need to wash it off because I smell like I'm going camping.

At first, this smelled super fresh and like orange blossom/other citrus but dry down just smells like florals. I would say this is good if you really like a citrus and flower mix. To me though it is nothing unique.

This scent is so heavy I had to scrub it off. Really choking white floral with a bit of wood. Not for me.

I really like this one! If you don’t enjoy clean citrus scents don’t even bother with this one. The first blast is a super strong white floral, like way more white floral than the notes listed should provide. I enjoy the opening as I love white florals. Then, very quickly, the neroli comes through front and center. I’d say this is distinctly more of a green, dry, fresh neroli rather than a sweeter orange blossom that someone mentioned below. It’s a really great balance of neroli tempered by the petitgrain on a bed of fresh slightly sweetened white florals and soap. The citrus here is grown, gently energizing and refreshing veering green rather than a more youthful, juicy, super bright sweet blast of citrus that’s common. It’s truly a very very well done floral citrus soapy scent. A perfect spring/summer day time scent. It’s also appropriate for work imo. I will mention that it’s slightly sweeter on clothing for the full wear, it gets sweeter on my skin the longer it’s on but never would I describe it as a “sweet” scent. It lasts on both my clothing and skin for quite a while. I’ll be picking up a travel size as I don’t wear citrus based scents enough for a full size but def will reach for this when in the mood. If you enjoy clean citrus scents you must check this one out. Very pretty!

Like Ellis Brooklyn Sci Fi, Myth, and other progressively cool fragrance names, my expectations were hyped exponentially when it came to Fable. I sprayed it on a business card first, and I picked up on a brilliant interplay of notes that made me imagine strolling through a hidden forest, picking rare flowers, like a character in an Angela Carter novella. I knew in a split sec that this mental imagery was exactly what the fragrance was attempting to accomplish. On the skin, Fable told a different story. First was a high-pitched citrusy floral. V. citrus! Then the top notes and heart notes did their thang and the result was either hot rubber or freshly cut limes, I couldn't decide. I did not enjoy that part, so I put my wrist aside and waited for the dry down: lemony flowers. Sort of magnolia-esque, but not as in-your-face. Some reviewers have mentioned honeysuckle, and I can see that too. The mysterious woodsy note on the business card was notably absent. Pros: it's not powdery. Cons: maybe that would have helped—? I like the concept of clean fragrance. Maybe if fragrance were unclean (or whatever), the entire EB scent collection would hold me in awe. Similarly, I like Fable. I wouldn't buy Fable, though, at least not for myself.

I will admit, I only purchased this perfume because I saw two reviews here that mentioned its similar to Tocca frags and specifically one that mentioned its a less floral version of Stella by Tocca (which is my current obsession - gone through 2 travel sizes and two 1.7oz bottles in 1 month. I know, I know - I am addicted and chronic oversprayer). I found out this was discontinued, but I was able to get one BNIB off eBay for a good price. I do get a light citrus note right at the top and that is the neroli. The perfume quickly becomes a creamy sunscreen like fragrance, minus the coconut. I am 100% that is the honeysuckle, but its almost indolic, creamy like the way Belle by Tocca was, and it was not something I was expecting. It is very reminiscent of Jasmine with the strong white floral, and thats pretty much all this perfume is until it is gone. I honestly got a bit nauseous with the creaminess and scrubbed it off the first time I used it. I am a lover of white florals, with Stella, Deja Vu White Flower, Cartier Baiser Vole, Gucci Bloom Nettare Di Fiori, just to name a few - but this was just OK in my book.

Ethereal, gorgeous, dreamy & indescribably bewitching to me ... I haven't smelled something this beautiful in the longest time ... This smells like it would make everyday feel like a special occasion when one sprays it on ... I wish the fragrance would stay in the first stage longer because that's what I've really loving about it ... If there's a laundry, soap, shampoo or whatever out there that evokes this fragrance, let me know ... I'd *love* for my clothes and hair to smell like this! I don't get a fresh laundry smell from this at all ... It's floral but not in your face, overpowering ... I almost get a tinge of licorice ... It seems the petitgrain is holding all the floral notes together & the bonus for me is that the majority of the notes in this beauty are faves of mine ... I was lucky to grab a .33 oz sprayer of this fragrance and I'm taking it for a spin right now ... I'll see how it wears before I take the plunge into buying a bigger bottle ... ♥

I've been looking for a soft, mature floral since my favorite has been discontinued. I prefer "clean" fragrances because often fragrances get overwhelmed in my nose by chemical reek that burns. I ADORE Fable. It's soft and feminine. The layers of scent are complex and rounded, not just sharply sweet. However, it lasts for about 2 hours on my well moisturized skin. I have never, ever used a scent that lasts for so short a period. Pure rosewater has better longevity. It is such a shame that with such a lovely fragrance. If it were the price of a drug store body mist, I would probably buy bottles and keep them everywhere so I could refresh my fragrance. At $100 a bottle, that's not feasible. It's also terribly overpriced for something so short lived.

Am I the only one who got a powerful fresh laundry vibe from this? With a slight undertone of plush new car smell. Bear with me, but when I read the company's description for this, it mentions a fable about a lion, and it immediately clicked that (seriously) this fragrance kind of smells like my cat's fur. For anyone who doesn't have a cat / has never smelled a cat up close and might assume that cats smell like unclean litter boxes, they don't, they actually smell very clean— they lick themselves clean and their saliva has antiseptic properties that can create a faintly sweet, plush smell... that happens to smell a lot like this perfume. Call me crazy if you want! This is cat smell in a bottle.

Funny - this is the only perfume that I own that I like more for its performance than its scent. The scent is not what I would normally lean towards - not saying that it's bad - not at all!- but the performance is so great, that I can feel confident just by virtue of knowing it's present (I don't like doubting whether my perfume of the day is noticeable at all). I smell it so well, so many hours after spraying. Smells mostly like honeysuckle to me. I think it's a summer scent only though. I think it would shine on a fancy brunch on a hot day. Should have a better rating.

SavvyMinx said the same thing I have been doing, which is mixing Raven with Fable. If you layer Fable with Raven, you get this white floral bouquet of peony, honeysuckle, and neroli. The mandarin orange and petitgrain bring in the citrus, while the sweet patchouli, the amber, the blonde woods and the cedarwood tie all the notes together for a very sexy, elegant, intoxicating fragrance. If you decided to do mix the two, DO NOT over-spray or you'll end up smelling like Rives a.k.a washing power. Just two sprays of both is enough.

It’s sour and refreshing like lemon zest, or maybe a bitter candied orange peel. It’s not very sweet, and the citrus is so strong that I’m surprised it’s just neroli. Cedar is really prominent and it keeps it from being super femme. Weirdly addictive, absurdly strong. I only put one dab on my wrists and I keep catching whiffs. Counter intuitively, this seems like it would shine better during winter. It’s clean, bitter, and too warm for the sun somehow.

The opening is lovely, to me it's a subtle orange blossom even though it's not listed. I don't get any bitterness of neroli. After a few minutes, it turns sweeter - smells like honeysuckle on a hot day. It's quite powerful! I find it interesting that Ellis Brooklyn fragrances get stronger over time and this one isn't any different. It's quite inoffensive but very flat.

This one is okay 🤔. It’s not my personal taste, but I think it would make for a nice spring and summer fragrance. Pretty non-offensive, bright, and summery. I mainly get lots of fresh citrusy neroli and non-sweet white florals which again, isn’t my cup of tea 😅 but it’s not bad!

This is nice-- very soapy and reminds me of laundry detergent. I do like that type of scent on occasion, but I don't intend to buy this full size. It was part of a discovery set, and it was in my top 4/8, but it's nothing earth-shattering. Tis one feels very unisex to me.

I can’t really pick up anything other than a strong, true-to-life honeysuckle and maybe a weak base of white wood. It’s nice, not complex, just a fresh and pleasant floral for those who love honeysuckle flowers.

Light, clean lily of the valley and green notes. Reminds me powerfully of something from the 70s. in a green and yellow bottle. Pretty, fresh, great spring-summer scent.
