I'm quite surprised by all the reviews saying this smells masculine - this is super citrusy and light on me! Actually, this fragrance was what I thought West would smell like. Upon the initial spray, I found the orange blossom and neroli notes to be the most intense. I was actually surprised by just how much this smelled like orange, and it stayed that way for a good two or three hours. However, once that settled, I did start to get whiffs of something herbal and a tad spicy, almost like a cigarette, but in the most unoffending way possible. It balanced out the citrus quite nicely, and made for a complex note that was sweet, even a tad soapy, and just a smidge earthy. This isn't a warm, comforting scent at all. It's quite clean and crisp, which is a nice alternative to the warmer spring and summer scents you usually get. I also like that this didn't stay linear, either, as is my experience with other Ellis Brooklyn fragrances. I actually think I'm starting to fall a bit in love with this fragrance, truth be told. This might be full bottle worthy.

So, I bought this thinking I probably wouldn’t like it much, based off of the reviews, but it was crazy on sale and I’ve been wanting to try out Ellis Brooklyn as a whole. Consider me pleasantly surprised! I typically lean towards sweet or gourmand fragrances but I needed a clean, fresh fragrance for work, and this is just that. People who have been calling it laundry detergent are getting it right- it smells like classy and expensive laundry. I would never grab this off the shelf for date night or anything, but with my skin chemistry I feel clean and professional.

Ellis Brooklyn as a whole got me into perfumes! I find them very unique, but I am also a beginner here 😅. This is one of my favorite scents by them, as I prefer unisex! I have always received compliments when wearing this specific perfume. Definitely agree that this is a “clean” perfume, as well as associating it more so with professional and work settings. Nevertheless, this has been my go to fragrance for years

Put simply - this is the perfume I reach for when I want to smell like 'that girl' with the 'clean aesthetic' It's fresh in all the right ways (from the neroli and orange citrus-y notes) yet comforting (from the lavender and cashmere notes) This is a daily wear for me.

We love Ellis Brooklyn's clean fragrances. Rives is inpsired by the 1920s French Riviera with topnotes of neroli and petitgrain for a citrus and spicy scent, middle notes of orange flower and lavender, and dry notes of cashmere woods and white suede.

Lemony and soapy, but in a fancy way. This is a unisex scent but it leans a little more male to me. It’s nice! Edit: I’ve been wearing this a lot and I’m now in love. So soapy and lots of lavender.

Like many other reviewers, for me this does evoke scent memories of a distinguished older gentleman for me. Smells like a fresh clean man - soapy and aftershave-like - who smokes cigars. To me, the scent is more like unsmoked tobacco itself rather than cigarette/cigar smoke. I really like it and will keep my sample because it smells interesting, but it's probably not something I would wear if I were trying to please others. The neroli is prominent in the beginning but by drydown only makes itself known as a vague soapy smell.

This is clean, powdery-soft laundry that has been scoured by hand in a freshwater stream, spread out and left to dry in a field of wild lavender, and then spattered with juice from the orange the buxom washerwoman is eating for lunch. The soapy expression here is lathery, luxurious, and waxy, not washed all the way out. I think it's lovely. Unfortunately, though, my household doesn't--it made my husband sneeze, and my toddler loudly and passionately declared, "Oh! Mama, you're too smelly!"

Very interesting! I blind bought on the website as clearance, then read the reviews and went "uh oh"! In trying however, I'm pleasantly surprised. Definitely a sharp opening, sweetly floral, and, yes, soapy. But in a good way. I approach fragrances each uniquely, so I don't have associations like "barber shop", "old lady" etc. I'm wearing for first time today on the summer solstice and it feels perfectly appropriate-clean and sunny!

This one is very interesting. It opens with herbal/spicy notes of lavender mixed with orange flower. It's not strong and it keeps close to the skin. I thought this would be quite masculine, but it isn't on me. After a few minutes the lavender subsides and it becomes very leathery. The suede is definitely noticeable, but in a soft way - again, keeping close to the skin. Surprisingly pleasant!

Soapy, a little floral, and very green. I kept detecting a cigarette-like essence that floated in and out of the fragrance as it dried down. Not a blind-buy type of fragrance, but I really enjoyed it.

Smells clean and floral without being overly sweet and feminine. I don't get the "old man" smell that a lot others have noted, but it does smell vintage

This smells very lemon-y to me, so I'm surprised there are no citrus notes listed. The scent does start off a little harsh, a bit like cleaning product but once it sits for a while, the scent calms down a bit, and gets more floral. This is not my personal taste, but it might be good for someone who likes that sort of clean soapy citrus scent (reminiscent of a men's aftershave or something along those lines). To, me this does lean more on the masculine side.

This smells like either my grandfather's car, or like a car freshener that's being used to cover up a cigarette smell. I can't tell if it makes me smell like a classy old man or like a cheap soap. The dry down is basically just straight up soap. I guess I would reach for it if I was in a certain mood where I wanted to smell like my grandpa & wear a vest & stuff. You could definitely achieve the same thing with something from the dollar store though.

The dry down on me is lavender and suede, with the tiniest hint of petitgrain. It's definitely unisex, a little soapy, and fairly clean smelling. I really like clean, soapy fragrances, but this one isn't entirely my jam. There is something, probably the suede, that is throwing it off for me. However, I do think this is a rather unique fragrance and I can easily see how someone could really like it.

This pulls VERY masculine on my skin from the get-go. It starts out incredibly herbal and green and pretty much stays that way the whole time. After about a half hour, it starts getting powdery, but still overwhelmingly masculine. This is definitely not a good choice for wearers wanting a sweeter lavender.

Smells like a very nice laundry detergent, or like a pouch of dried flowers that you keep in the closet to keep bugs away from your linen. This is a great perfume if you're into those kind of scents, but I'm personally a bit bored by smelling this on me.

The opening is bright and floral, though I do not detect any neroli. The dry down gives me straight laundry detergent, albeit, expensive laundry detergent. Some people are in to that; I am not one of them.

This is a mess (for me at least lol). I agree with others reviewers who said it was very masculine and had a detergent quality. Very astringent! I don’t know why this would be appealing. Not to be offensive but it smells like old-lady’s soap drawer mixed with petit grain. Even with the fresh quality I don’t think it’s suitable to summer because it is too heavy and woody. As far as notes go - they might as well delete the neroli and orange blossom. This is just petit grain and wood with a touch of very astringent lavender and old-fashioned hard, white soap. It would be ok as a laundry detergent scent or linen spray but absolutely not worth the price as a woman’s perfume. Honestly pretty awful.

I got two words for you: LAUNDRY DETERGENT. Is this Gain or Tide? Not for me, Ellis Brooklyn, but I do like Raven though. BUT DO NOT let my review influence your buy. Assess it yourself and have your own thoughts, rather than strictly going off someone else's thoughts and opinions. If you can, I suggest getting a sample first...or looking up the notes to ensure you will like it. Read reviews before buying a fragrance, but take them with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion regarding smells. IF you do buy it, enjoy it :-)

This reminds me of my grandmother. I am not a fan of lavender and though I didn't catch it right away, it was clear this was the reason I didn't like it. I do also smell the cashmere and suede, which is probably what made it tolerable to me. I could see this on someone wearing a blazer, someone who keeps neat and tidy in their appearance but not showy. I won't call it an old lady fragrance because it could smell different on someone else.

This is a soapy, masculine fragrance. There is a dominant note that I do not like, which from reading the review below may be petitgrain. It smells like an expensive men's cologne, not for me I'm afraid.

Ugh. I love lavender but not this. Opening is bad, dry down terrible, and lasting power non existent. I was going to wash it off, but didn't need to since it is so weak.

Very lavender-forward opening, dries down to portapotty. spiced and sharp. not very long lasting, but just before it fizzles out, it smells like an old man's aftershave.

Oof. This smells like dollar store air freshener to me. Cheap soapy-floral with a cigarette note.

This dried down sooo badly on me. Nice hit of orange blossom right off the bat, but I smelled like sour mothballs within minutes!

An unpleasant herbal, masculine spice on me and ultimately a scrubber.

I saw this for $40 at TJ Maxx and decided I wanted to try it based on the notes. I was hoping for a lavender/wood scent for chill and bed times. This is... interesting. The opening is sharp for sure, I almost thought I was smelling the opening for Fable, which I had gotten a couple days before. Then within minutes it went to a woody or floral lavendar, and then in an hour is is just musk and floral. Completely indistinguishable from any other floral musk, including it being a skin scent. In short, I actually like all three parts of this scent separately. I like petitgrain and neroli a lot. I like the lavender a lot, because it doesn't have that medicinal or sharp or weird smell that just lavender on its own can have. I like musk. I just was hoping that the top and middle notes would stick around. It does lean masculine in my opinion, but that doesn't bother me at all. It has a great richness to it. I don't get the soap vibes from this one. Maybe people are thinking of lavender soap? Will smell again before deciding whether to try and return, as my bottle is leaky and they would probably take it back. Do I want a very three part perfume is the question.

I liked this fragrance. It is bright, clean and approachable . It's the girl with the French scrubbed freckled face and a big smile. She is carrying her giant basket of clean clothes home from the laundromat. You can take her to lunch and you'll get a sweet peck on the cheek...that's it...you might feel let down but then maybe it's enough?! There is always another day. All of the white florals and lavender give it its squeaky clean quality the dry down of wood and suede is soft and easy close to the skin. Lasts 2 to 3 hours.

Immediately crisp and clean, even a bit sharp, rounding out with the introduction of the woody base. Ultimately this one didn’t quite cohere for me; it isn’t unpleasant by any means, I just think the bright top notes and soapy theme didn’t work with my skin chemistry and left me smelling more like a citronella candle than I wanted.

This fragrance is so underrated. I feel lucky to have stumbled upon this. Right away this starts off a little sharp but then after a couple of minutes it settles into a clean soapy scent. The drydown is the best part about this fragrance. Think Irish spring but unisex. Smells like you just got out the shower.

One of the most repulsive fragrances I own. I’ve been trying to force myself to love it for about a year or so. Each time I open it, I am instantly reminded of why I hate it. For some reason it just reminds me of a sweaty, alcoholic, street walker wearing a cheap perfume oil roller ball— in the 90’s.

the opening smells like aeroguard (bug repellant) in a big way. It dries down into a woody fragrance with a hint of lavender and chamomile - like one of those herbal teas labelled "bedtime" or "relax". Then it settles back into a mild aeroguard smell.

You know those perfume making kits for children? Yeah, this smells like all of those.

I like it, it smells like French Grey and Tide. It's a good vibe for chilling in bed.

To me this perfume smells like a pair of new shoes.. take that how you will.
