Cloud Daze (막걸리)

I am not an experienced perfume reviewer, but I had to show this house/fragrance love as it has quickly become my absolute favorite perfume! Cloud Daze is a lovely warm, but complex, nostalgic scent. I actually blind bought it because of the makgeolli base notes, but it is not an overly-sweet gourmand; the airy juniper and citrus help balance and give it more depth. My only complaint is that I wis it had a little more longevity and sillage, but I love it so much I don’t mind reapplying.

I was at the elorea store yesterday and walked away with a travel size of this. This fragrance goes through so many layers that it’s hard to describe. Btw - the notes here are not correct. They are: top: lemon, juniper, amyris Middle: makgeolli (Korean rice-based alcoholic drink), cognac, jasmine sambas Base: rice, vanilla, balsam, dalgona (Korean sugar candy) It’s definitely not a straightforward rice scent. It is simultaneously rice-y, delicately floral, and sugary, like the dalgona candy. No one note takes over and overall has a very delicate profile. It does dry down a little “generic” but frankly, I don’t need to smell avant garde all the time.

I really wanted to love this, as I am a BIG fan of makgeolli and enjoy Elorea's Hazy Blue, but it smells like old lady powder and old man whiskey cologne to me. I felt like I smelled like Grandma AND Grandpa at the same time. It lasted forever on me, too. It was still wafting the next day after multiple hand washes, wrist scrubs, and a hot shower.

I was looking forward to this the most out of their collection. It does have the sweetness of makgeolli without it being overly alcoholic, but the designer DNA base is too overpowering. It settles into a softer powdery scent which I am associating it as rice. Not blind buy safe.

I wanted to like this so bad. But I feel like so many modern fragrances have such a similar DNA. Once I can smell it, I can't unsmell it. I wish I loved this. I love the concept! This is also based off my nose. No shade to the brand. Their perfume seems high quality!
