Ungaro pour L'Homme

The inaugural masculine release from Ungaro, under the direction of Jacques Polge and François Demachy, sees a theme that delineates from Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme, Salvador Dali Pour Homme, and the like, with the slipstream of dihydromyrcenol propelling this fabled fougere, since this, after all, this was released in 1991. However, this does reveal a complexity that may come as a surprise, with some intriguing interplay, particularly that of a ratio between a prominent clary sage and lavender. These two have such synergy that it can be difficult for a "trained" nose to sense any seam in the tapestry they form together, albeit with bracing wormwood does announce its angularity in the top notes. When some geranium and rose ketones churn the mix, it gets even more layered. The whole feel is velour in texture, back lit with sweet honeyed musk sensuality, and a shadowy "man of mystery" perimeter as if to say "shhhh...move in a little closer" in a whisper. A soft powdery tonka-patchouli dry down feels elegant, almost intellectual in nature—it is the smell of reciting Coleridge in a salon, surrounded by the erudite and attentive. In other words, it's not exactly a youthful affair, but it suits an old codger like me. Be that as it may, it is not readily available as it has been long discontinued, and often prices are needlessly inflated. This is perceived as a holy grail of sorts, but I wouldn't implore anyone to drop a large wad over it. If you find a good deal like I have (under 80 US for a 30ml), by all means, snatch it up if this sounds titillating.

I got it, I got it, I got it!!! :))) I could finally purchase this rarity from eBay relatively cheap, and I'm so happy now! The bottle is very elegant and extraordinary, simple and a bit robust, manly. The color is elegant, even a slightly buorgeoise: very deep but transparent red combined with gold (the cup is green and black). The creator is Francois Demachy. The first sniff: old memories came in a rush. I'm not familiar with notes and components but this is something very extraordinary - DEEP (for me it's floral-spicy-woody). Not an everyday, comforting, all-purpose safe scent at all. This is something you use to create an aura, and not to wear a "scent". It's not a character who wants to be friendly and assimilate, but one who stands on his own. It is serious, nothing funny or easy here (but not melancholic like Pour L'homme III). May I say that Ungaro Pour L'homme is artistic. To be honest, I can only imagine an artist using this fragrance for his own pleasure. Niche and not mainstream, that's why it was a failure as a commercial release. I would suggest Puig (who took over Parfums Ungaro) to release the old Ungaro fragrances (Ungaro Femme, Senso, Pour L'homme I and II) as exclusive editions like Givenchy did with his vintage fragrances. Ps. I would suggest K1 to try this challenging creation ;)

Ungaro pour l' homme was released in the 1991 but it has an 80's vibe. It is a classic fougere but more on the floral side, still masculine yet strong. The Heart has carnation, rose, clary sage and Jasmine. I also detect oakmoss, a touch of patchouli and honey. This blend gives a bold, elegant and strong aura to you, ungaro pour homme has a great quality and requires style and a lot of personality. Maybe it's not the easiest fragrance to wear but the smell is freaking good, especially if you like the oldschool taste. It has a similar vibe to tsar, jazz, vintage polo green and safari. Grab it if you can because it's very rare now!! Performance is very good, for 38 and up, better in cold seasons. An elegant beast! If we all try hard, we can channel the of ghost of Mr Ungaro, get him to haunt the 'un-spirited' corporations who discontinue &/or reformulate once masterpieces, & bring this stuff back! I remember in the 90s, my bathroom shelves yielding this narcotic, available only with a prescription from the Devil. And those body products! I actually bought the soap 1st. Unorthodox way to sample a frag but the packaging caught my eye. It was luxe & screamed high-end arrogant bastard. Nothing pissy about the size either. Loved it, got the juice, then acquired the balm & the bath & shower gel. These body products were exorbitant even back then: AU$46 for the soap & I think the gel was close to AU$70+ When I saw them appearing 'much cheaper' in giftpacks, (EDT, gel & balm) that should've been the alarm to hoard those bloody packs! This was not an everyday frag or 'signature frag', Good luck to any man who claims the latter...you're scaring me already; but one for certain occasions, certain times & certain moods. And what times, occasions & moods they were! That's what made this stuff magic. And seeing those luxe body products shelve-sharing with the EDT was like looking at a high end car you only take out now & then, but boy...how you love going for a drive!

Pour L'Homme I is one of those absolutely great early 90s masculine fragrances with a million different notes that somehow alchemically makes olfactory magic. There's wormwood in here for contrast, but it's mostly florals and spices and lots of citruses--a marvelously complex fougére. Although Fragrantica credits Francois Demachy with creating this, I've read elsewhere it actually comes from the nose of the equally great Jacques Polge. I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford a full bottle of this discontinued fragrance because it's very rare and bottles of it go for a fortune. You can more easily get samples, though, to smell what a marvelous wonder this was.

I get sad every time I wear this enchanting juice. I have yet to find a cologne I like better. The bottle I have won't last forever, but I'm not about to spend $350 for a replacement. I purchased a 2.5oz back in 2000 and put it in the outside pocket of a leather book bag that I dropped at the airport. The full bottle broke and saturated the leather. To this day, when the bag gets warm in my car, it still smells of Ungaro. I wish I had purchased a dozen bottles. I would have had I known they'd stop making it. Ungaro needs to reissue this magic.

El perfume mas exquisito que tuve, durable mas de 12 hs, hasta muchas veces despues de un baño, bien varonil, fogoso, seductor con un aroma y combinacion de fragancia inigualable..., al pasar por algun lugar Ungaro Pour L Homme dejaba la estela de olor. Se podia usar en cualquier epoca del año, pero especialmente a mi gusto en las noches de verano. Es una verdadera lastima que no se siga fabricando, hoy en dia seria una de las fragancias mas exitosas..!! Calificacion General 10/10.

Until I received my Ungaro I and II orders, I thought these scents were strong patchouli scents. It smells elegant and high quality from start to finish. If I were to comment on scents right now, it wouldn't make much sense since it would be about 2 scents that are almost impossible to find. Diamond bottles for collectors. I am happy to add it to my collection.

Perfect masculen and immortal scent. Opening intensive spices and awesome ending. Perfect longevity. Worth it.. But It should be noted not for summer or hot weathers.. Winter-Autmn Scent. Scent: 8,5/10 Longevity: 10/10 Sillage: 8,5/10

Alexandria or Dua should bring this jewel back.

The most obscure of the 'dihydromyrcenol fougères', both in terms of smell and availability, this elusive perfume did what Jazz a few years before but with an extra darkness added: an absinthe-like opening (wormwood), backed by an oriental heart (tonka, amber) and a smooth isoquinoline-type leather base (think Cabochard). Is it worth the cult status or the 'unicorn chase'? Only if you are a fan of the aforementioned YSL AND a collector: this is not a single step avobe the former speaking of quality materials but adds a nice twist into the genre. Solo si sos un fanático del ya mencionado YSL Y ADEMÁS un coleccionista: éste no está ni un escalón arriba en cuanto a calidad de materiales pero sí agrega un toque distintivo al género. I've seen a different list of notes on this one (which seems right to me): Lavender, Pine, Bergamont, Patchouli, Wormwood, Jasmine, Precious Wood, Geranium, Sandalwood, Tonka, Honey, Amber. When I first sampled this scent, I was very sensitive to lavender notes, and the wormwood hardly registered at all. After wearing Smalto (1998) the other day, I decided to wear this one so that I could compare the wormwood/absinthe type notes they share. In Smalto, there is strong (I call it shrill) lavender up front that overshadows everything else, though it doesn't last long. With Ungaro I, there is a lavender/wormwood accord, where both are quite strong and last considerably longer than Smalto's shrill lavender (along with some supporting "fresh" aroma chemicals, which don't last long either). However, after a short while they are on similar paths, the major difference being that the Smalto feels thicker/denser, which makes it more of a winter scent. What I found is that a couple of sprays of Smalto is not enough, so I'm comparing one or two sprays of the Ungaro to several sprays of the Smalto. I don't see any reason to compare this to Jazz (I have both vintage and second formulation Jazz), as others have done, but instead I suggest the 1998 Smalto for a drydown that isn't miles away from this one. Then again, if you don't smell the strong wormwood note, Ungaro I may smell like quite a few other scents, I suppose.

First of all, these aren't the real notes but don't worry, I have them :-) Top notes: Lavender, Pine, Bergamot Heart: Patchouli, Wormwood, Precious Wood, Jasmine, Geranium Base: Sandalwood, Tonka, Honey, Amber So, I don't wanna take your time reading this by breaking it into notes, but I want to tell you that this juice is the wine of underworld demons. If you want to feel how that party is going on down there, say no more, hunt a bottle and give it a deep sniff. The colour of the bottle now is spreading in your room and it makes you want more and more of that smell...that lusty smell. Secondly, when are you going to wear it? At night, chilly outside, all alone and in time you will feel that Sucubus won't be late for your date because she can't wait to smell it! In the end, you really need patience to hunt a REAL price as I did, 50ml with 50 EURO at an auction, that's a REAL DEAL. Trust me, in the end, you will have a big smile on your face with your horns straighten up. 10/10

I have so many memories with this one, starting back 1993 or 1994 or so, when my dad used to wear it. Dusty florals with a light smoke undertone, this is how i perceive It. Not alike anything that i smelled before. Ok, It has Little similarities with Jazz, but they go in very different directions. The smoked dusty floral undertone is very well made, not like the crap sweet smoke that You find in almost any current fragrances. Too bad this is so rare to find nowadays. This one got me a lot of compliments, it's strong and interesting

I wore this when it came out and I loved how sweet and woody it was. Now I see the sweetness came from the carnation and jasmine, so unusual for a men's fragrance. Dressy and formal, too rich to wear all the time. So different and so unique, its a shame it can no longer be found. I'm thinking I will never see another bottle of this but I will remain hopeful. Classic in every sense of the word...if anyone sees this anywhere I can't recommend it strongly enough that you grab it, you won't be sorry

Old school Mossy floral that is very similar to Dali Pour Homme. It's like a lighter and brighter version. Opens with a strong wormwood note and lots of lavender. Minutes later Dries down to a subtle animalic rose and sandalwood. If you're a fan of vintage masculines then it's definitely worth a sampling. If you already own vintage or new Dali Pour Homme then you can skip this since Dali is more complex and a richer fragrance overall. 8/10

Ungaro I, what a tricky thing this perfume is. It’s lavender, tonka and geranium heavy. It’s a fougère in its core. But there’s an incense throughout the perfume’s lifespan that intrigues me. And that puts it more on the incense category than on the fougère category, where it’s supposed to be. Beau de Jour and Zino also have that “fluffy smoke”, but in a smaller amount. Well, jibber jabber, this is great. Another 10/10.

This is a sexy one. Do they not make this anymore? What a shame. Smells like another era in the best way. Sweet, woody, herbal. Like a walk through a wizard's potion garden. There is no patchouli listed in the notes but this smells to me like the best niche patchouli fragrance that money could buy.

Smells quite similar to Jean Marc Sinan V.O Version Originale. A power house of it's day. V.O. Version Originale came out first in 1984. This continued that tradition. An Angry Lavender is present here.

RIP Mr Ungaro. Thank you for your work, it's a great loss for the design world.
