Homeros

Very uplifting and complex scent with high quality ingredients. Opens bright citrus bergamot, salty amergris, woody smoky, slightly fruity. The drydown is a wonderful combo of musk, sandalwood and cacao. Everyone perceives scents subjectively but I find the review below by Kenni a bit strange, at least in regards to the comments about the oud. First of all the scent is not about the oud, it's just one of the ingredients blended seamlessly into the composition. The oud used here is Oud Royal 2004, a 17 years old oud. I don't know why Kenni feels this is a 'young oud'. The perfume certainly doesn't lack depth. On the contrary, I'd say this is one of Ensar's most sophisticated works. The quality of ingredients is there as well, as always with Ensar. (there are scents by EO I don't like as well, such as EO2 or Borneo Zen but the quality of ingredients is always up there)...

Pre-ordered the Homeros when it was available in September 2020, this is by far one of my favorite from Ensar Oud house, right up there next to Crime & Punishment and Irish Ghalia. I love this one so much I just had to immediately order a backup bottle. You got tobacco, leather, smoke, resinous oud, dark fruits, florals, and a load of other notes, it's just an overall complex work of art, with excellent projection and longevity too, 2 sprays easily last well over 14hr. Hands down one of the best Ensar creations, period.

This stuff is FIRE! A must-have for those who enjoy smokey, musky, ouds with herbs and spices. You're greeted with an astonishing high-grade oud. The closer you get, the zesty flavored citrus appears from the orange blossom. As it dries down, the salty, animialic from the castoreum comes to play, along with some creaminess from the Siberian musk. My favorite from Ensar Oud!

A very complex, multi-faceted scent. Upon applying there are spicy, musky, animalic, and woody notes. Soon, florals make an appearance as well. And it's all beautiful and captivating. The scent continues to change through the dry down and so I'm constantly detecting new notes. Just an amazing scent that I am happy to have. A true winner from Ensar.

way over priced. sorry, but i think this is all the areej le dore type hype without really delivering something worthy of the money. i think some fragheads may be snobs who chase the label convincing themselves that price equals quality equals their sophistication. this is good, no doubt but does it thrill or merely blasts one. i guess this is my way of saying that fanaticism is a matter of subjective evaluation. i prefer dusita's oud infini, but that may be my lack of exposure to high end ouds. i have some areej le dore and fragrance du bois which i enjoy on occasion and i put this in the same 'niche.'

Salty, fruity, ambery and spicy. Oud is a nice backbone. Quite good, but not worth the price imho.

- I know I'm going to be downvoted to oblivion by Ensar fans. Ensar has been bombarded by many haters, justifiably, and he likes to display this on social media and in his website articles to scare them or any such critics away. But in my ownership of this fragrance I have to be honest. I mean no hatred. Even though I enjoy this fragrance it is not original or worth its extreme price. It is a simple beefing up of his first release EO no 1, and Areej Oud Zhen and Oud Luwak are very similar to this creation as well as Saringkarn, Majnoon, Oud Monarch and shamefully Amber Oud. Of the Ensars I've tried and I own three I think the Ensar's prices are rather grotesque. I have Crime and Punishment, EO Green and Homeros I like Homeros the best the two others are still okay. The brand was discovered by the wonderful Nikhil from Exotic Scents and since then the prices continued to climb and climb just because they knew they could get away with hiking the price and not because anything was done differently. I do enjoy some parts of Ensar's Homeros. I bought it. But in terms of the brand I find it slightly awkward that Ensar are idolizing their perfumes as if God Himself had created them and owning them is your ticket to success religiously and mortally. I don't like cults and I don't like idol worship. I would applaud the brands success but it's difficult to separate the ego-centricity from the philosophy and I'm concerned and even more so conflicted. The perfumes are good but they are not divine or even close to the "best smelling things in the world". Certainly not these. Based on how most of Ensar's fragrances are just simple mixtures of the same raw or exotic ingredients in different quantities I wouldn't say they were worth their price. Frankly the over-advertised rarity of his ingredients sell these generally lukewarm perfumes and I fell pray. Some who need to feel superior to the "commoners" and wear that judgment on their sleeve even if that habit lurks guiltily, eat this kind of marketing up. Of the ones I've tried they don't smell well blended to me. Sampling a good chunk of Ensar's line I found them to be all are very dull, heavy handed and smokey animalic affairs and I usually can't distinguish the differences between each one of them after they dry down leaving them uneventful. Ensar is a human being running a business and has been massively successful at marketing his craft. But these are Veblen goods priced for prestige like Roja using primarily naturals instead of both naturals and synthetics. The other independent artisanal houses deliver sometimes better products crafted the same way for less. Though his fragrances are good what more am I paying for with Ensar? - Homeros is a dark leathery oud with bold animalic florals ingredients and dry sticky, animalic and sweet resins. The sweet and indolic florals give an old world feel and the scent lasts for a decent enough time but its sillage dies down quickly since it is composed of mainly short-lived naturals. I think the perfume is wonderful and has many thick and dense layers. It is rugged and dimensional although slightly heavy engaging a both dirtily earthy and sharply soapy floral, elements. It is very similar to Oud Zen, and Saringkarn in the opening, but more so of Ensar's first release EO no 1 in the dry down. Ensar's Homeros is not super innovative. My critique would be that Homeros is much more stuffed and busily blended somewhat chunky compared to the Prin or Areej options and not very transportive or reflective to anything in particular. If I had sampled those earlier I would have picked any one of them over Homeros because to me they feel made better. It projects quite intensely for about an hour but I can no longer smell myself into the fourth hour so the wear time is fleeting for such a densely blended and all-out fragrance. I do appreciate that it becomes softer quicker because it would be daring to wear something as bold as its dry down as a massive scent bubble. When I do wear this it is mainly for home wear because it is too bold for public events and also too brief for a decent weekend day of wear length. Due to its shortcomings I find it really just collects dust, something I would say of the other Ensars had I decided to get them. If I had to wear this to my events I would probably cause some problems as I have with Norne and my other two Ensars. I had sampled this and my other Ensars for a while before I made my decision to purchase them so obviously they've appealed to me but again more-so in a arbitrary way because of the promoted rarity. Don't get taken advantage of by this brand. I don't find them particularly functional or very artistically successful. They are just nice rich and messy smells I find interesting. I like it for myself and I allow myself to enjoy it when I can separate the brand from the product. But this is not often. However, "separate the brand from the product", "separate the art from the artist" I don't like these statements. They are an excuse to shelter bad behavior by still giving someone who has done wrong or inconvenienced you, money and attention out of pity and a unhealthy cling to the hopes that a toxic relationship is not toxic, when they have shown they are no longer contributing nobly in their dealings. It is okay to leave and wash yourself clean.

Another EO1 flanker. This one with smoky coniferous notes. Nice. Nothing new. If EO1 is your ultimate make sure to pick this up.

This was the first bottle of Ensar I had gotten and was also my biggest dissappointment. Based on the notes, I thought It was going to be love at first sniff. It was not. To my nose, it is a dusty, stale spicy amber fragrance that seems to be missing half of itself if that makes any since. I have more samples to review, but they are not here on fragrantica. But needless to say I have been quite saddened by what I have tried so far and was hoping for more.

Perfect blends of animalics with florals,tobacco and Oud.Very complex fragrance with addictive nature.You are paying price for the materials and artistic creativity.Ensar doesn’t play with quality and it’s evident in his all his blends.If you are into real musk.ambergris,Oud etc it’s a must try and will keep fascinated for hours.

This composition clearly has a lot of crisp citrus notes mixed in, but strangely no dense woody back bone. Its like the structure of the scent is as rigid as the structure of used black tea bags. In the mid I get an aquatic/metallic perfume essence on a base of eucalyptus and dry orange peel. The dry down is mainly dominated by a dry liquorice, a dark patchouli and vetiver. I recommend EO Black, Jungle Kinam, and Kyara Koko if you want to try some exotic perfumes from Ensar Oud that deliver more bang for the buck in my humble opinion.

No High grade oud here. A very underwhelming and young oud mixed with bergamote, herps and Vetiver. Lacks depth and Quality at this price point. Smells like a vintage Creed Bois Du Portugal.

I've had other Ensars and have never questioned the quality but my impressions on the compositions ranged from meh to "liked" but I really enjoy this one. I hate myself for loving this one because its so costly. It get oud, tobacco, bergamot, ambergris, some florals that reminds me of immortal. It comes off a little spicy and just the slightest hint of sweetness. I thought maybe there would be pepper corns used but I see no mention in the notes so I guess not . Putting my nose right up to my sleeve (spray location) I then get just the slightest hint of animalics and some orange blossom. Are there nuances of other stuff in there, for sure but my untrained nose can't identify them. Some oud & tobacco combos can be harsh, the ambergris and bergamot offset what would be harsh to create something that feels like harmony while still falling squarely in the masculine category. This one is far from linear. It evolves throughout the day which I enjoy. So many perfumers these day push out something unoffensive to appeal to the gender spectrum and please everyone as a money grab. This one is decidedly masculine, has great quality and depth that keeps it interesting for me. It checks all the boxes; love the smell, good sillage and longevity is very good. The only negative is I can't defend the cost as I have seen other quality compositions with similar ingredients for a lower price point. To try to give readers an example of how Homeros comes off, think Antiquity from Areej II how its dark and brooding but then softened/often by fruit and florals to create something complex. I'm not suggesting the notes of Homeros are similar rather at a high level, where a reader might find a point of reference for the feel of this one. Another example is xerjoff Luxor. It has a complex opening but then settles into a linear tobacco that borders on harsh. If you added bergamot and ambergris to that one it would make the dry down much more palatable and achieve something in the ball park of the feel of Homeros. Last example, is Encre Noir. Obviously different notes but EN is dark & brooding but not harsh and that is the feel of Homeros. Again, I'm painting broad strokes to give the reader some reference points for the feel and if Homeros is right for them.
