Sable Gris

Extremely risky but also extremely successful blind buy - I don't recommend anyone else doing the same, it was just more efficient and cheaper for me to get a bottle where I live rather than getting a collection of samples. The notes really don't give you a good picture of what this smells like, IMHO. I can't pick out anything specifically, except the smoothness from the sandalwood mixed with the gentle musk and spices. But even that mix that I can detect is pretty well blended. It reminds me of Blanche Bete, I'm not saying they smell the same, I'm saying they share the same vibe. They are both extremely smooth and gentle. Blanche Bete is like a more milky floral cousin, and Sable Gris is the more mature and grown up cousin - but both smell amazing when you hug them. It's amazing, I don't really know how to explain it, it just smells like "me." I think that's also why I think of Blanche Bete because I had the same experience. They both remind me of what my skin smells like by itself. Thank you, Maria Collett!!! A perfect fall scent that is incredibly complex and sophisticated. I have tried multiple fragrances with similar notes, because I personally love cardamom, musk, and oakmoss in a scent. However, every other cardamom fragrance I have tried leans heavily on sweet rather than its natural spiciness. You can really tell that EPC puts a lot of thought into the creation of their fragrances. I spent a year looking for a similar fragrance because it is WAY overpriced for their biggest bottle (50ml), but ended up repurchasing because nothing compares to it.

I definitely get a salty, marine, vibe from this but overwhelmingly, this smells like warm spices, and I’m a big fan of both scent profiles. I still think this is a spring-summer, early fall kind of scent because it does evoke salty shore to me. Maybe a walk down the beach with a cardamom tea. I love the complexity here. It’s a unique and beautiful fragrance.

To me, it's a warm musky santal fragrance with a little oakmoss and ambergris. The ambroxan isn't in your face, but still there. No saltiness for me in this scent, as well as other spices, nor can I smell vetiver or leather. But I like it. It's a comforting perfume to me.

when i hear the word “spicy” i get a little intimidated, but this is a smooth, approachable, subtly alluring scent. i really, really like this & can’t wait to wear it more throughout fall/winter

On drydown, it smells like a spicy, less citrusy Musk Therapy! Very warm and comforting scent that won’t offend.

To my nose this smells a lot like Gris charnel by BDK! Lovely but I own GC and this is uncannily similar.

According to EPC’s website, this blend is five parts Cardamom moss and three parts Sandalwood musk. The former is overwhelmingly, horribly sweet and destroys any blend it is part of, while the latter is soft, silky, and musky. Among the reviews for cardamom moss and for sable gris I can see that experiencing that cloying, overpowering sweetness is relatively rare, but since I do, neither of the two nor tuberose chai (which also is based in cardamom moss) are for me at all.

Ellen Hutter sits on the bench at the edge of the grey sea, waiting, and out on the horizon, where her husband should be, where Nosferatu's shadow should be gathering ... there is Fozzy Bear. Frothy salt mist and soft warm musk, woolly and faintly ridiculous and ridiculously sincere. Ginger and turmeric filtered through static, the way a signal travels over water on a small television in a dim room, present but softened into grain. The scene is melancholy. The ocean is grey. Fozzy is way out there, doing his best.

If this perfume were a color, it would indeed be grey. The opening is a very peppery sandalwood with some cardamom and oakmoss. it’s almost a bit harsh at first. And it does have a marine-like quality to it but it doesn’t stick around for long. As it dries down, you get more of the leather and the musk. Probably masculine leaning but overall very unisex. It’s a like, but not a love.
