Twin Peaks 雙記

It's a fragrance with a really unusual transformation I've never experienced before. And it explains its name in a very unexpected twist. After intense dark woody, citrusy, and rosy-floral start, it gradually begins to smell like the paper packaging of those 10-year old pu-erh bars. Not just the tea itself, but also the smell of that aged paper—not dry though, rather soil-like. This tea-paper scent gets closer and closer to the skin until becomes barely traceable—that's where aromatic woods, some citrus, and dry incenses walk in. The scent transforms into these and you can barely believe it smelled like tea not so long ago. However, those aromatic woody and citrus notes become more calm after some time. And that's where the final blow appears—this notes combo reveals a tender pinewood smell. Not too intense, not too myrrh, it doesn't give you chills like intense pinewood fragrances do, but it combines with those already faded previous note to make the pine smell feel emotionally-cold and slightly unsettling, but not necessarily dark. Needless to say it's not a blind-buy fragrance. It's okay for light-coloured clothes though. Longevity is really good, assuming your surroundings let all of the notes open and you can smell them all.

disclaimer that i haven’t tried lapsang souchong tea (though i suspect most of these reviewers haven’t either) so im admittedly a bit uneducated. when i hovered my nose over the sample i ordered from luckyscent i actually was reminded of my friend’s barley tea, though i don’t smell this when i actually put it on skin. at first spritz i get a blast of photorealistic balsamic vinegar on my skin, which is already mellowing out a couple minutes after spraying, but only slightly. its funny, i’ve dismissed tea scents that were milder than this as too herbal and leafy but this one is delightful so far.

This is the best tea blend one can ever imagine, two types of tea show up at different phase when the scent develops, this is crazy. I can’t address as an Asian that drink everyday, it’s been forever to find a perfume that really have the scent memories that we Asian people share. The perfume itself is overwhelmingly exciting, I need more time to write a better review, because this is too good that I am still in shock that I don’t know how to express myself properly!!!!

I...love this, and have been wanting a fragrance like this for a while. It's basically The Noir with all the elements I love about it (smoky, earthy, dry, warm) stripped of the aspects I dislike about it (the fruity fig). There's still a balancing sweetness here from the rose and honey, but it's firmly in the background, supporting the smoky woods instead of fighting with it. Agrestic, dark, spicy, but so wearable-- this is wonderful.

The dry down of Epichron Twin Peaks on my skin is the same as that of Le Labo The Noir 29. On my skin, it’s unbelievable how similar they are. I love them both. :-)

Lapsang Souchong is a lovely smoky and earthy tea, bar none my favorite tea. It tastes as it smells: wet earth, smoky, and the decomposition leaves and wood. I’ve been on a hunt for a perfume with similar qualities, which lead me to Twin Peaks, unfortunately I really don’t get any note of Lapsang Souchong. To me there isn’t earthiness to this at all, and the smoke that is present is not one I would associate with Lapsang Souchong. I’m less of a Darjeeling devotee, however I’m not able to pick that accord out either. This is predominantly a rose incense perfume with a cedar dry down, I really am not able to get much tea at all. Though I’m disappointed it leans away from tea and more towards conventional notes, it’s still a nice perfume, just not one I’d buy. I will note, the rose is a bit overpowering in the opening, it’s a nice rose but it’s pretty loud for me. The search continues...

I can definitely smell the black tea, and something like lotus root seeds? It’s quite nutty (in an Asian cuisine way)

This one’s not for the feint of heart. My girlfriend has a visceral reaction to it. Said it smelt like a dead body being filled with formaldehyde. I personally can’t stop spraying it on my arm to smell it. It’s so bizarre. Extremely smoky and sickly sweet, like a 100 year old red wine cork. I went out and bought some lapsang tea to smell, and I definitely can smell something similar in this. When I first sprayed it I got a real tea note underneath, but this is predominantly a burning rose.

It's straight up honey and incense with amber. Unless those are you notes , I'd recommend skipping this one. Without the overwhelming honey note this would have been actually nice and the tea notes are some of the best I've come across. A shame on the combo.

At first it was really harsh, rose was extremely prominent muddying the tea but after few months this is absolutely spectacular. Hands down my favorite rendition of rose, honey, and tea notes. Phenomenal blending when it sounds so wholesome and monolith but you have no problem to pick notes a part. Smoky, bitter herby, dry, with this glowing, honeyed dusty rose petals with some delicate stem background. Get this instead of Thé Noir 10 times out of 10. This is such a delicate balance, it smells so profound, mysterious and I can’t wait to sample more from this house.

so well blended, really beautiful. I don't usually wear dark scents but if I did i would wear this one. Michael Wong is becoming a favorite perfumer for me.
