Apollo Hyacinth

This smells so, so, so good. For the first time this year, I cut the hyacinth from my garden and put them in a mason jar to brighten up my office. I didn’t realize how potent they were in fragrance and had to move them to the hallway - but they smelled incredible for ten or more days. I then began to wonder why they don’t use hyacinth in more fragrances and wanted to try one out, and that’s how I stumbled across this incredible fragrance. I opened the box and before I even took out the bottle I thought “it smells like the color green.” You can smell the vetiver citrus right away. Then I smelled the bottle sprayer and could get the top notes. They were so divine I had to test it out despite the fact that it was 10:30pm and I’d essentially be wearing it to sleep. It’s perfect. First 10 minutes smells so green and fresh (almost aggressively, as though there was a lot of lime in this) and...like a hyacinth. The dry down is mellow, soft, like when you put highly fragrant flowers in a large hallway and the scent dissipates perfectly in to every corner - not too strong, yet not weak either - you notice it when you walk in but eventually it just becomes part of the atmosphere and makes you feel happy. It loses that aggressive quality as it melts with the body chemistry and becomes a vibrant, soft, effortless hyacinth-lily fragrance. It’s really, really wonderful. 10/10 recommend.

bright, beautiful and clean, imo a unisex floral. noticeably green and dare I say 'wet', but not in an 'aquatic' sense, moreso the smell of a very green, dewy and fresh hyacinth. There's a bit of what I would call a bite to this, not unpleasant but undoubtedly a tone meant to ground the formulation. I believe its the vetiver working it's magic but this is simply one man's nose. powder tones lent by way of angelica and LOTV. Absolutely shines in the spring like nothing else I've worn. This stuff is not cheap, but it must be said that in no way does it smell of poor quality. Longevity is fine - roughly 6 hours is my mileage. The projection however is quite solid; for only lasting as long as it does, its really only a skin scent for about the final 2 hours or so. I'd say the first 4 are AT LEAST moderate and its more accurate frankly to describe the opening as firmly 'strong'. To be honest though I think you could absolutely overspray with this, I mean, if you got money like that anyways.

This is the star in Eric Buterbaugh's line up. A really lovely hyacinth w/out the overstrong trumpeting of most hyacinth frags, just a lovely green floral of sharper edges (incl a lemony citrus brightness that doesn't announce "lemon") that manages to be complex, dense and incredibly fresh all at once. Hyacinth is prominent and LOTV present w sig support from woody green vetiver and the dry green intensity of oakmoss. Lasted several hrs and sillage initially is fairly big. It was a pleasant surprise as other EB’s have not impressed as I'd expected they might. This one is exquisite, a favorite and fb worthy. Sadly discontinued and will be very htf. As someone deeply attached to Norell, this scent occupies similar territory and it's no surprise when looking at their notes. Both rely heavily on hyacinth, galbanum and oakmoss. 8.5/10.

Impression based on wear test in store. One of the most beautiful crisp green perfumes laden with gorgeous white flowers I have tried ( does not smell like hyacinth imho). Both sillage and longevity were good for green perfume category. When you buy the full size dabber bottle, it comes with 0.3 oz travel size spray bottle and glass funnel. FYI Surrender To Chance sells decants. I finally bought this several days later. It performs really well in extreme heat. It will never be an exact replacement for the original Balmain Vent Vert. Nothing will because of all the restrictions but this one is close enough..

I am loving my decant of this. The first time I'd ever smelled Hyacinth was on a vacation to AZ a year ago. I was in Home Depot and they had a bright pink Hyacinth plant. I couldn't believe such a beautiful scent was hiding from me my entire life. I bought the plant and brought it home where I lived off that smell for a few weeks. This smells so much like the real plant it's incredible! It's not sharp and it doesn't smell like soap. Other than that, it smells spicy and peppery just like the real thing smells to me.

Eric Buterbaugh is doing it right by hiring Alberto Morillas to mix this juice. Apollo Hyacinth is a wonderful powdery floral and green garden scent. The flowers are a little hard to tell apart, but this is a very pretty scent. Apollo Hyacinth is a realistic garden, with interesting herbal notes. Easy to wear, a classic perfume. The only downfall: the performance is shorter than what I want.

Beautiful!! Really green, fresh and exhilarating, with such a pretty lily-of-the-valley, and I definitely smell the stems of the flowers. It's also got lovely woodsy, musty, earthy, slightly smoky elements in the dry down. And the pear adds a beautiful sweetness. It's really gorgeous.

Gorgeous green, I also get some of the LotV which normally is not my thing but in this green beauty it works very well. There is a hint of sweet pear in this fragrance which adds to its clean green yet fresh appeal. Very well done and the large flacons are gorgeous!

Very green and a bit fruity, I love this and the osmanthus one. I have the velvet lavender one. I wish he would have it as a easy to use spray instead of a glass stopper dabber bottle even though it looks very good.

Beautiful, elegant and refined green floral fragrance. Perfect for Spring/Summer. The scent manages to remain quite nicely dry, despite the pear note. Recommended!

Beautiful, light, classic. I agree with most of the reviews below, it smells just like hyacinth and I wish it lasted longer.

I'm deciding how I feel about this one. The hyacinth is certainly dominant, I get a very realistic LOV note, which I've never smelled in any perfume so far. Like this one actually smells like real LOV! The vetiver though, is the star of this show. Or maybe I should say it steals the show. Out of nowhere in the development, a woody, earthy (not dirty) note comes in to stir things up a bit. That's the oakmoss and the vetiver dancing, I think. But the "citrus" bite of the vetiver then bursts in and brightens everything up again. This is why I love vetiver so much. It is always a surprise! And what a gorgeous bottle! I only have a decant, but that bottle is almost worth it by itself. At this point, it's a like for me. Not something I'd buy myself. But if you love spring scents with sophistication and refinement, it's definitely worth checking out!

Such a pretty, fresh, green perfume for spring and summer. Apollo Hyacinth smells really green, grassy and tart. In the opening I smell mostly sour neroli, clean lily of the valley, and a watery fleshy green pear. As this wears on my skin, the oily rich and slightly bitter hyacinth starts to come out, combining with lily of the valley in a stunning simple sweet floral bouquet. It wears almost like a chypre, but with a fresher, more modern feel. The only problem with this perfume is it doesn't last very long on me. Maybe just a couple of hours. Very refreshing on a hot day, though - it has that tart bite in the opening that also stays throughout the fragrance - it is always very fresh with neroli and grassy.

The most true hyacinth fragrance I have ever worn and its precision is backed by longevity and sillage. I have a few very large patches of lily of the valley in my yard (smells similar to hyacinth) and I was walking up to my door the other day and got a whiff and thought "Oh my God are they blooming already?" So I turned the corner and.... no they weren't .... it was just me!! After working 8hrs I could still smell the 3 sprays I had applied that morning. 100% very, very, very impressive!!!

Very interesting frag... Extremely floral but yet not overly feminine. A lot going on here & even though I'm not a huge fan of floral frags, I really like this one. Projection is 4 feet with excellent longevity. Sample this one....

It's actually quite green and vegetal, and they told me they only used the stem of hyacinth not the flower

top notes: floral (hyacinth), sweet (Candy), sharp but also very clean? middle notes: abit stinky with florals and powdery base notes: middle notes but abit more intimate interesting fragrance, just not for me. 7/10

Apollo Hyacinth is the fragrance from Eric Buterbaugh that I was most excited to try. I love the earthy, damp, soft, delicate, blue/purple smell of real hyacinth blooms. I also love the myth of Apollo & Hyacinth, so this had my name all over it. Sadly, Apollo Hyacinth is not for me. I will give it credit for being an original and interesting fragrance. With bright neroli, aqueous pear, and a sharp greenness from galbanum, the opening is quite unique. But the heart fails to deliver the hyacinth I crave. Instead it's mostly lily of the valley, a note that I always find challenging. Here it's sharp, metallic, and high pitched. Sniffed up close it has a nice floral sweetness, but in the air it smells like the laundry detergent powder from my childhood - the kind with tiny blue crystals that came in a cardboard box that never seemed to close. It all settles to an austere vetiver base. Very unusual, and not really like anything I've tried before.

I have been waiting for this one for a long time and happily found it in my mailbox when I got home from vacation. I agree with previous comments. this is a very floral, green and crisp smell. But IMHO, it is not close to true hyacint. I like flora but not into green notes and I prefer to soft quality than crisp or sharp one. I really do not like one very much, so I am only giving it about 3 stars, it does last on me. for someone that want a perfume close to the real flower, I recommend buy a sample first. For me, this is a bad blind buy.

A green floral as advertised, very spring-like and crisp. I like it a lot but keep thinking ‘hairspray’ or ‘deodorant’ as it wears. That being said, it’s a nice version of those things and I blame the pear. Looking at the notes, I can smell most of them and I do like this a lot. The most prominent notes are the hyacinth stems and lily/neroli whites. Very pretty, and perfect for spring, despite the sensation that I'm wearing highly scented body products.
