Sultry Rose

Mmm, Sultry Rose was love at first sniff. The name suits the fragrance perfectly. It is a fresh, sweet, fruity rose perfume, with a tart sultry twist. Smells a little spicy, a little like skin - probably the black pepper and the ambrette seed. It has a sparkle! Sour, fruity rose in the opening - beautiful. As it dries down, the "vanilla orchid" comes out more and more. When I first looked at the notes after wearing this, I was so confused...I couldn't see the gourmand aspects I was smelling. But then I realized the "orchid" is "vanilla orchid" - and while I don't know what that means, I do agree that this dries down to a floral (rose) vanilla. If you like Delina and Delina Exclusif, you might like Sultry Rose. It is not a dupe! But it has the tart rose opening, along with a sweet, melty drydown - the best of both worlds. It becomes sweeter and more intoxicating the longer it's on your skin. The ambergris may make a faint appearance, too - it has a very slight marine, skin-like touch. Sultry Rose has moderate projection - I have gotten a compliment while wearing this in the past, but it's not overwhelming or off-putting - the person in question wasn't sure if it was me that smelled good, or the candle. That's the way I like it to be, a little mysterious ;) I have been testing from an 8 mL decant. Now I want to try the rest of this line...I do love floral fragrances!

When I first sprayed this on, I thought it a pleasant enough fruity rose, like so many on the market today. But first sprays can be deceiving as this is a perfume you can't make a snap decision about just from a first sniff. You have to give it a little time to heat up on your skin and unfold. When it does, it is absolutely beautiful! I love the use of passionfruit here as it differentiates it somewhat from other fruity roses since it doesn't have the sting of citrus, or the tart sourness of rhubarb, or the excessive sweetness of berry notes. Last week I had a passionfruit gelato, and the smooth creaminess of the passionfruit in that reminded me of the passionfruit here. It complements the rose beautifully giving it a slight tropical, creamy profile. If it just wore on like this it would be pretty enough, useful for a casual day, but when the spices, oud, ambrette, and ambergris show up the real changes begin. It then transitions to a very sensuous, warm and seductive rose that really lives up to its name - Sultry! So, give this one a little time before writing it off, because it really is not what it first appears.

This is a beautiful spicy rose, one of the best spiced roses I've had the pleasure to wear. It starts off with mildly sweet passionfruit notes, and I was wondering if it was going to turn into a gourmand. Instead pepper and musky ambrette keep it indeed sultry and exotic and sensual. This is the kind of quality that Aramis Calligraphy Rose wishes it had and tries to emulate but falls far short. The saffron in this is not cheap or overpowering as it is in Calligraphy Rose. Sultry Rose is delicious in its spiced richness and it has more projection and staying power than Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin, another spiced rose that I own. Difficult to find samples for this, although Scentbird does carry some of the EB Florals line in samples. It's also expensive, but one of the few luxury lines I think is worth it at Saks. Wearable in all seasons, good for both day and evening wear, although I think perhaps more appropriate for evening.

Beautiful year round fruity spicy rose. Very juicy, wet and dewy. It's smell like the color of the liquid on the picture of the bottle. The saffron here is well done. Not to much like it T'aif from Ormande Jayne. Same with the pepper. Just there to add warmth and longevity. It doesn't disturb the lush and sweet passion fruit or the dewy pretty pink rose. IMO this is year round everyday day or night signature worthy fragrance if you love fruity warm spicy slightly fresh spicy and musky roses. It is light enough for spring and summer wear but hearty enough to carry you through fall into winter. Well crafted and extremely beautiful. A backbone for a perfume collection.

A gorgeous, slightly jammy, saffron-rose. Before sampling, I was a bit leery of the passionfruit note - fruity-florals have been done to death - but my concern was misplaced, as it’s not overdone at all, but adds a ripeness to the rose. It includes oud, but this is far from a Montale-like ‘rose-oud’ fragrance; the oud is very light and subtle, and works with the ambrette and a light vanilla to round and smooth the composition. Add in the pepper and saffron and you have a spicier, slightly creamier La Fille de Berlin, to my nose. Absoutely stunning and full-bottle worthy. This one is at the very top of my wish list.

Sultry Rose is supremely beautiful! The loveliest rose I've ever smelled I think. Very sultry and glamorous. Perfect. It's rich and spicy, slightly fruity and even a bit salty, and also has a lovely velvety creaminess. Really really gorgeous.

From vial soft rose, alcohol; on slightly sweet, slight powder, slight spice, not bad, but not a draw. After 5 min it blooms and the spice becomes more pronounced, sweetness more apparent w nose to skin. Overall well crafted, and maintains a light soft rose, even though its sillage seems to bloom and hints at some staying power. However, 1 hr in it's mostly a skinscent though true to it's open. 3hr in dry and spicy is most prominent with a v faint rose. Pleasant and well done, but doesn’t grab me or demand I wear it. 6.5/10.

Delectable scent, nice slightly creamy rose scent. I'm enjoying it, totally unisex. It has a touch of spice and a sprinkle of pepper that pushes the rose note to the top. Purchased a decant via Scent Bird. Will post longevity review later.

This is such a well crafted fragrance, there is nothing about it that does not fully embrace exceptionally good quality. The opening is unmistakably lushly rose in the most vivid way, accented just slightly by the pepper and fruit, but not veering into the overly sweet and sticky zone. The pepper for me is not distinctive in that I can pick out exactly where it begins and the rose ends, a nicely blended duo of light spice. The opening lasts for quite some time on me, quite remarkably so, with the rose water being the first to come to play to add further depth to the impressions of rose. The orchid is not distinct for me but the saffron gently begins to warm and wake up the garden. Saffron often turns into a powerhouse on me, even as a note I enjoy, but this one is true and steady, blending in gradually and make itself noticed but never making itself the star. The oud seemed to be the next note to wash itself in gently, although it's very subtle, with just a hint to ground and accent the floral and spice. I am always wary of musk, as animalics can be a question of make or break for me. This one does turn into the well described "musky" category but it is not a revolting type that can smell of skunk or the notorious "cat pee." The ambergris has a slight salty note to it but is not particularly "sweet" but also not wandering into the foul zone. The combo of ambergris and musk mallow lingers for hours and hours, with just a hint of the rose and spice. Even with my fragrance eating skin, this one really is able to stay with you and not fade into nothingness within a few hours. With just one good spray on to an arm, at hour 10 this is still a fairly notable skin scent. I am going to hazard a guess and credit this fragrance as likely having true ambergris in it's composition, given the ever enduring performance. The musky portion has not grown on me after one wearing, but given the rest of the fragrance and the long lasting performance, I am going to give it another go. At the very least, I think the EB Florals line is worth seeking out in the limited Saks stores or decant shops, if not directly from the maker. I found the entire line in somewhat pricey samples at Surrender To Chance but I have not ordered from them before, so I am not able to vouch for them. Quality was not skipped over to just put a fancy price tag on this one, it earns it's keep.

Very disappointed about this perfume. Very soapy , creamy rose smell . I think I’m the 1800 it would be ok to smell like this but not in this century.
