Mx.

I think this is an outstanding blend! The profile smells of a creamy transparent beige colored sandalwood given body by a zesty citrusy ginger with pepper. Woody, earthy, cacao and a slight "human-skin" like nuance from a touch of castoreum. Quite unique. A "your skin but better" type of fragrance. It is the backbone of Mxxx and I was reminded of Mxxx but stripped of its rich pushy elements like a smokey and spicy mace, incense, vanilla and salty ambergris. A simple spicy woody that once again like its big brother Mxxx feels like it has a quiet natured complexity. This is a fragrance for a personality that reveals very little about themselves maybe as a defense mechanism or maybe because it's fun. This fragrance feels very well-dressed, very educated, and very goal oriented. No sharp edges at all to be found in the blend and quite attractive in its quietness however not mind-blowing, strong or daring. But somehow also not dull. Comfortable. Reasonably priced in my opinion. I almost can't smell it on my skin when I am still, but as I move I get this wonderful trail of something light, creamy, earthy and head-grabbing in the air and I soon remember I applied this... Mx is probably a nominal choice for a signature scent. Inoffensive and soundless but full of unique character and development upon drying down. It is spicy, woody, earthy, and creamy in the dry down. Meant to highlight many of the delicate facets of high-quality Australian sandalwood. I've not smelt anything similar to this besides Mxxx. To me there is something quite special here. Well-behaved and smart, and I think that was the point - I now see where that energy comes through in Mxxx. Easy to wear on hot days and cold days and something I could see myself wanting to make memories with. A very relaxing spicy, creamy, sandalwood fragrance in the camps of my favorite the original Costume National Homme EDP. Unisex but frank. Verrrrry slightly male leaning. I have sample vials of the whole line from LuckyScent I will be discussing. Calling this a good "office fragrance" would be an understatement but I feel like it would also be an insult. This is quite attractive and high quality and it can easily satisfy a momentous occasion as well. 9.5/10

This is what most "office" scent aspires to be. Constantly shifting, always opening but never overpowering. Literally can't pin down a note, not in the opening, not in the dry down because for me it doesn't have one. Can't consciously smell it, but if you have an office and walk into it after lunch break you will find yourself inhaling a deep breath and thinking "that's nice, what is that". It smells familiar so you might think it should smell generic, it doesn't. It doesn't lean warm or cool, instead it's like a barely there breeze on a slightly warm dry spring day. It's the scent equivalent of the perfect thermostadt setting where you can layer or not depending on your mood and still be comfortable. I do not love it, there's no wow moment, nothing that captivates or anything that grabs. Yet it holds beautifully. If you like Bottega Veneta Signature this will be what you turn to after you get bored with it. I literally can't picture anyone this wouldn't work for, yet you still won't smell like anyone else. Very safe blind buy. Will be joining my closet.

"this is how I perceive myself in a scent" Here I describe what most fragrance lovers chase but is sometimes so hard to find...a scent that doesn’t just smell good, but reflects you or how you envision yourself. Not an accessory, not a mask but a mirror. Mx is special because it discards boundaries and embraces nuance. A blend of woods, spice, incense, musk, and yet still get a sort of light freshness. There is no narrative, it just holds space. It's warm and open, textured but clean, grounded and somehow still ethereal. Big love from me. We can do better than “masculine” or “feminine.” Those words can be shortcuts that flatten things, especially with art like this. A scent can be Grounded, Expansive, Radiant, Shadow, Tactile and Weightless. Or like Mx, fluid, soulful, and fully alive.

Ok, so I'm coming back to show some more love for this scent. It's so freakin pleasant, so easy to wear for just about any occasion. It's a little smoky when you need it to be, it's woody and dry but also it has this warm sweetness just cruising through the composition. Such a well done olfactory experience. More people should know about this scent. I live in the south and Mx has no issues in the heat. Never cloying, never sour and it just mixes with your natural smell and you get this slightly sweet woody scent trail. To my nose Mx is in the same realm as Bois D'Armenie. Remove the sweeter vanilla component and amplify the woodiness

On the drydown I get a very nice smokey wood smell, like cedar charcoal, that stays very close to the skin. There is some powder to this fragrance too.

Ignore the press blurb from the brand. I thought perhaps it was just me, but, having read several other reviews of Mx., clearly I'm not the only one who has no idea what Eris is going on about when they say Mx. is a stylish blend of traditional masculine and feminine perfume notes. To me, this is a spicy, woody, vetiver perfume of a typical masculine variety - full stop. It smells achingly familiar, but that's not a surprise. Eris, under the creative direction of Barbara Herman, has made no secret of the fact that the brand - and herself - are very heavily inspired by the classics of modern perfumery. And, though Mx. might have missed a turn or two in getting to their destination in the brief, I smell a homage to rustic wood classics that is well done and just good fun to wear. The opening is a beautiful spice blend of a South Asian variety: piquant and citrusy ginger, smooth and fruity black pepper, floral and woody saffron, and a good dose of green and sharp resins that actually works to give the ginger more body than it does to stand on its own. It's fresh, invigorating, translucent, and uplifting. The floral woody qualities string down to a creamy sandalwood that is roughhewn and splintery, and possibly a bit young/green smelling, which is a nice natural link to the resins as well. The pepperiness of the top steals the show when we get to the heart as it morphs into stiff and nose-tickling aromatic cedar notes. However, here is where my experience seems to detract from that of many others in that very quickly a salty, sweaty and green vetiver note rushes into the mix and starts crowding the space. Underneath the vetiver, giving it more strength and presence, are animalic leather and woody castoreum and birch notes that certainly accents the salty and sweaty aspects of the vetiver. There is something very, very quietly dark brown, earthy, and a touch floral playing in the background - what the brand says to be patchouli and cacao notes, but to my nose they are far from distinct and could just as well be tricks from the saffron material. This warm "brown" feeling picks-up as the perfume continues on, but the notes never distinctly stand out except to become ever so slightly sweeter, which might be an effect of the benzoin warming up. The small handful of misfires in Mx. lend to this feeling I have of the perfume being incomplete, but with a single-step back and a reorientation of my nose what I smell as incomplete is actually more of a rustic scent. This isn't an oil painting created with paint-strokes by brushes the width of a hair, precise and delicate, but more like a watercolor using big swatches and dabs, the paints blending a bit too cohesively to the point where they take a color-direction that sort of knocks the whole off course in slight ways. It's not a flaw, by any means, rather it's a unique and modern approach to a genre that for a long time has been more known for precision and saturation. Its curiosity makes me smile. A fun and interesting piece of work.

Choco ginger! This fragrance is not really different from her all other fragrances if we're going to compare them according to her animalic stamp as this one is slightly animalic as well. It has cacao pwder on ginger & black pepper ans it whiffs back & forth between sandalwood, & cedar. It has that woody texture beside the chocolate slightly hot factor! AND kind of spicy cause the patchouli, olibanum, & saffron comes later causing the blend to turn a bit towards the spice direction as well. This isn't a gourmand fragrance although it has cacao, as mostly i see it woody & slightly spicy because of the olibanum, patchouli, vetiver, & birch. fair blend. Edit (21st Jan 2021) I'm back to this blend after 3 years! Wow! it's like if it was yesterday! and again it's because of the photo of her "Green Spell" Blend with that greeeeeen nails. Mx. is quite alluring, soft alluring with that light pepper and tingly ginger. The olibanum is quite clear in here with the benzoin, cedar, and sandalwood. The birch is there and all are balanced within a mild hazy sweetness. I believe this blend is quite mysterious and very subtle, it's like saying "Don't let the look deceives you, you didn't see nothing yet". Beautiful.

Along the lines of Night Flower and Scorpio Rising from ERIS, this continues to explore that Antoine Lie style of sensual suede skin scent that he started on with Tom of Finland. This one uses sandalwood to create a creamy textural suede, and really it’s the purest of them all - kind of the ur-text of Lie’s leathers, the standard by which you can judge the rest: Tom of Finland a little brighter and more aromatic; Night Flower adding some floral sweetness; Scorpio Rising adding greenness and some vinyl shower curtain. Strangely Mxxx., named as a flanker, doesn’t fit this group at all with its amber take on animalics. And ERIS’s confused naming continues here - the concept of “gender freedom” could make for something great, but this is a straightforward unisex with masculine-leaning notes. If anything the one they called “Night Flower” would have fit this Mx. description much better, with its juxtaposition of old-school feminine tuberose and modern masculine leather (and ultimately that one’s the full bottle I’ll get when my Tom of Finland runs dry).

Very light, refreshing leather. Mx. reminds me of a toned-down version of one of my all time favorite Diptyques, 34 boulevard. Low sillage, but I like this better than Mxx. Gender ambiguous.

a sandalwood-centric construct with a never-too-overpowering blend of spices. At first it is turned slightly gourmand with cacao before growing some claws with castoreum. nice

If you're an animal lover, you'll also love this smell. It smells like a super clean cat or dog

I'm surprised that orris/iris isn't listed as a note; to me this starts as a waxy iris and transitions to powdery slightly peppery sandalwood. Very light, a polite skin scent that is a little bit too heavy on the iso E (or something similar, a synthetic pencil shavings type note) in the drydown (which I also noticed with Mxx.) Very unisex.

It’s the same sandalwood centric fragrance we all are accustomed to at this point. Softened up with spices, saffron and touch of cacoa. Castoreum shows up in the dry down but nothing animalic. All in all, nothing ground breaking nor imaginative.

While I wouldn't buy this I quite enjoyed the sample. Yes, a little spicy (but not the delight of 1899). Yes a little warm and cozy but I'd rather have Amour de Cacao for that. Stays awfully close to the skin too, which is not a plus for me.

A spicy sandalwood, synthetic and easy to wear. I pick up pepper and ginger along with an overall woody feel— nice but not remarkable. I have other Eris scents to test on the horizon, and I don’t think this one will end up as a favorite.

I mostly get a faint spicy woody scent. Pleasant, synthetic, not much going on.

Eris Perfumes Mx is the slithering, unsettling echo of an intrusive thought, a fixation, a compulsion that thrums beneath your skin and stirs unease and intrigue in equal measure. Hypnotizing tendrils of saffron, a musky murmur of something primal, something unnerving. Velvety sandalwood, a plushness of warmth, of comfort, but something's not quite right. A shivery nip of ginger, a prick of pepper, sharp, sudden, jolting you awake, reminding you that you’re not yourself. The mirror wavers, reflects the eyes of a stranger you don't recognize, a smile playing on lips that aren't yours. Secretive, intimate, and sheer, this is the perfume of a whisper that clings to you, the memory of actions you can't explain, of choices you didn't make. Are they yours, these yearnings, or have you become a fascination, a vessel for the uninvited, a maddening allure let loose from the dark? EDIT: After I'd written all of this based on a very strong recollection that it brought up for me, I realized I wrote all of this slithery gorgeous malevolence about a perfume that celebrates freeing oneself from gender binaries... and that if one didn't know me, this review could be taken as me as someone who is freaked out or grossed out about that. Or something equally as unfortunate that I would hate to have ascribed to me. Nooooooo! Please don't think that it's not that at all. I love the concept, the execution, and the inspiration for this perfume! This particular review was prompted by how the fragrance reminded me of what was happening in Lois Duncan's YA thriller Stranger With My Face, wherein a teenager realizes that her jealous twin sister has been astral projecting into her body at night and making her do terrible things!

....I'm still taking phone calls for that day you realized that Mx wasn't gonna be the thing for you. This chicken needs more seasoning. Woody and Wimpy. Where's the make me say, "Ooh, Ah, Oh part?" This begins with a strong armed version of what we know to be saffron giving off a zing similar to rubbing alcohol. If there's a chieftain note to be enjoyed, one may look towards the lacteous wood for it has tranquil properties and a "catch me if you can" green note nestled firmly against it. The sandalwood carpet is laid out for more of that outdoorsy stuff we can't get enough of. A moistureless cedar note is gift-wrapped by a paltry sum of spices in the form of pepper and olibdanum. The result is one of the friendliest usages of smoke you can find around. Serenity is the soul and wood notes matter but a change of pace could benefit every arm and neck that has partook in this vapidness. No Castoreum? Shame. Someone voting the sillage as enormous? Double shame!!! This is Black Calumus rebottled as Eris. You can comfortably skip this one.

Mx. Those topnotes of frankincense, black pepper, etc. are there, ...but very soon fade behind a rich, woody wall of sandalwood, with a dusty, drily sweet, (and unlisted) aspect of orris powder. ...well, maybe some of it could be cocoa powder. Don't know/care what the marketing is trying to say about gender, ...but this is quite an exceptionally good sandalwood-dominant scent. Why is Santal 33 famous, and this is not??

Unisex but masculine leaning. Sort of similar to Thin Wild Mercury's perfume line but not quite. It's velvety and leathery. Kind of sweet not gourmand. It smells vintage but not dated spicy. The notes make for a very unique and interesting fragrance. It's spicy and woody. Not overpowering at all. It smells like a fancy hotel lobby. Warm, creamy and cozy.
