Florentine Iris Eau de Parfum

Elegant and versatile interpretation of iris. If I were to use Jean-Claude Ellena’s form based classification of scents, I would classify this as a good example of “figurative” scent. That is, a faithful representation of a real scent, iris in this case. Quite simply, the scent is just that and that is good. Yes, obviously the scent has notes of other substances softening and warming it a bit, but based upon my own experience, essentially this is what a real iris is like, or at the very least, the scent is a fairly close representation of that. When comparing this to other scents having iris as a prominent component, this is much purer and fresher iris. As for my own collection, when compared to Dior Homme Parfum, Dior Homme Parfum is much warmer, powdery, much sweeter and much softer in general. On the other hand, if I compare this to Amouage’s Interlude Black Iris, Amouage is a lot darker, smokier and heavier scent. Of course, all of these scents are iris, just a very different interpretations of the same base scent. As for development of the scent, on my skin it is very linear. The scent is extremely constant and in my opinion, top, middle and base notes are not too distinctive when compared to each other. Once applied, the scent is very constant until it fades. All of the above makes this parfum very versatile performer in real life. It is elegant, versatile yet not dull. Interesting, yet not overwhelming in any sense. This makes it suitable for office. At least, when just one spray is applied (furthermore, the atomiser is good, providing focused, but quite misty sprays and magnetic cap that clicks nicely on place). With respect to seasons, I would classify this as a spring or summer scent. For me it is little bit too light and fresh for fall or winter. For fall or winter, I would prefer Dior and Amouage. For me, this is an office scent. Although it is interesting, it might be a little bit too tame or too elegant for clubbing or the like activities. As for longevity, it is very good, although not eternal like freak cases - Amouage’s Black Iris is prime example of the latter. On my skin, this means around 8 hours for Zegna, give or take.

Blind bought this one a few years ago, because of the hype it already had. Got it on huge discount, already Zegna had sold its licence from Estee Lauder to Give Back Beauty - actually it took them 5 years to release a new perfume. This scent is spectacular and nothing comes close. It was a huge crime to discontinue thsi masterpiece, I guess there was something going on with licence, after changing the parent company. This is a "buttery" iris with violet undertones. Forget the "lipstick" effect of the original Dior Homme line. Iris here is naked, raw and feels more floral. The signature bergamot note is there but somewhat hidden, which runs throughout the essenze collection and is harvested from a single field in Italy’s sun-soaked region of Calabria, which Zegna owns. The collection was launched during the 2019 edition of Salone del Mobile in Milan, comprising of five fragrances: Mediterranean Neroli, Indonesian Oud, Madras Cardamom, Florentine Iris and Italian Bergamot. Roman Wood and Javanese Patchouli were added later on the line, while Golden Myrrh was a Harrods exclusive. Longevity is really good, close to 6h, while sillage is moderate. My batch is from 2019, no idea if there was any kind of reformulation later, the line was discontinued at the end of 2021. Huge HUGE love and I am so devastated that this masterpiece is no longer available and so hard to find.

Can anyone tell me when Florentine Iris EDP was reformulated? The bottle I bought is missing a lot of what I liked about the sample I fell in love with. From my experience of the EDP (sample of unknown batch), it's a high potency, musky, violet/iris/orris bomb with eternal longevity and great projection. A great fragrance all year round and so fresh! It maintains a fresh component all the way into the dry down. I feel like it leans feminine, as it immediately reminded me of something I'd smelled on a female before. I happen to love it though. The older (unknown date) batch lasts on clothes for days. The later batch which I purchased a full bottle of (A91, September 2021 batch) has none of the eternal freshness, is thinner, less complex, lacks the long-lasting orris root accord and after testing side-by-side on cards does not project in the dry down like the older one. The September 2021 batch definitely has a different formula, as testing side by side on cards, the long lasting woody-amber base molecules used are different. The older one can be detected on my skin even after two showers. The newer one washes clean off, leaving only a feint whiff behind and dying completely soon after. Feel so ripped off and saddened. My only hope now is to get the sample analysed and attempt a recreation!

This thing! This Precious Florentine iris!..This is the magic of perfumes because they bring images, pictures out of our subconscious mind of places or emotions...FI always evoked on my mental screen the following picture: Late sunny afternoon in autumn, one of those indian summer lazy days. A hotel room furnished accordingly in old style, as if from some other century may be 19th or 18th. The bed covers, and sheets with some linen on top. A beautiful woman sitting doing her make-up or reading a book while the afternoon sun rays have lit a half of the room through the lace curtain...Outside there is a lawn with some autumnal flowers surrounded by a forest'... Also, the scent transports me to my childhood when there were candies called "violets" that had absl the same smell..😊.. All i get from this perfume is violet/iris blended perfectly well and musk at the base - nothing else. Violet note i think is a bit more prominent than the iris. Florentine iris is sensual and exquisite. It lasts long and projects moderately. It can be used in spring and autumn It goes fine as an evening perfume It is unisex The best top 3 dry downs in my collection!..It is just stunning! The best iris perfume i've ever smelled and worn so far!

If you were ever in search of a fragrance that mimics the exact smell of clean linen, here it is! The best, most versatile, iris I've smelled to date, bar none. If you want to smell like fresh, clean, linen & have everyone inhale you as you go by, spray some of this on and noticably see people inhale deeper in your presence. It's of my opinion that, to a point, luxury designer fragrances are now on par with niche fragrances and sometimes better. True, they're not as quirky or daring as their niche counterparts, but often times better blended. Also, designer companies have more funds to invest into R&D, who in turn create focus groups to insure their products will be well received by their targeted demographic. At least in most cases. Definitely in this case. Well done, Zegna!

I have a 5ml sample of this (unsure if it's the EDT or EDP, however it says ESSENZE like this one so I'm leaving my review here). This is so lovely! There is a freshness & softness to this that's complimented well by the citrus undertones of the bergamot. I feel the title is a bit of a misnomer; this is primarily a Violet fragrance, not Iris. To me, the violet is more prominent and there's a comforting sweetness and aquatic quality that violet often has. The iris is more subtle and adds that powdery and pillowy base. The jasmine and musk must be hiding or blended well because they are not prominent. It's elegant, refreshing, unisex and beautifully done springtime in liquid form. Too bad I can't afford a bottle - LOL!

Imagine taking out your fresh white tee out the laundry with the most beautiful lavender & iris scent. So clean and comforting that i'd even wear this to sleep. Opening starts a bit too sharp when smelt up close to be honest but once it dries down its heaven, smell it a few inches away from your arm and you'd understand. Iris here is creamy but not in a sweet way, more of a clean crisp airy type. Now for projection this stays on moderately I wouldnt expect crazy performance. Spray on clothes as well.

Thank you Fragrantica for finally adding this to the database... Fell in love w/ the EDT in 2016(1st time I smelled it). Had it as my signature when I made my account, but the EDP took that spot when Zegna released it in 2019; now I can adjust since it's in the database...... EDP & EDT are extremely similar. Only difference is the Parfum is thicker/richer. Where as the Toilette is lighter/more airy. Same wonderful scent profile

Beautiful, fresh and elegant fragrance, performance wise is about 10 hours on skin with above average projection, great sillage, super dense smelling for a fresh fragrance, but not cloying in any way. The iris in here is super clean, unlike Dior Homme Intense or any other Iris fragrances. I blind bought this with a pretty good price and definitely no regret. If you love Iris, this is the only Iris fragrance you will ever need.

So happy Fragrantica finally added this one. There are 2 more to be added from the Essenze EDP collection (Neroli and Oud). Florentine Iris is an amazing floral perfume, forget all about Dior Homme, this is all about Iris AND Violet as well. It oozes class and elegance. Good projection and sillage. A must try, it deserves all the hype.

This is the best Iris perfume ever made, so realistic fresh, luxurious. Performance is weak unfortunately, but in this case it doesn't really matter. I was silly enough to sell my bottle, Thought I will replace it with another niche Iris, but it seems, that was a big mistake as the quality here can't be rivalled.

Managed to cop a 1ml vial of this. The lasting power for me is a good 4-6 hours. In the final hours of wear it dries down to the scent of crisp sheets and being pressed against the nape of someone you love —intimate, calming, a fleeting embrace of peace.

I think you got a bad batch fragrance addict, I got one and performance is great and the iris isn’t submerged, elegant elegant scent like freshly made laundry perfect for office or casual bright day events 9/10 for me

I always avoid powerdy fragrance, but this is done beautifully. Soft, gentle, clean, yet elegant. Cream colored suit, white shirt and pastel purple tie. True love for me.

Seeing the absurd prices for this now, I thank God I never let go of the one bottle of it I have. It's really pretty spectacular juice.

Fine iris smell that reminds me of my Amouage Opus V, which is stronger, longlasting and greater sillage. Well blended yet classy.

Iris yet again submerged with violets Nothing new or special Yes the quality is incredible yet it suffers from lack of performance Yes it’s clean and detergent like smelling but in a good way What really sad about this is for what the scent offers compared to what they are asking for I can see it getting discontinued in the future As much as the quality is good but most people won’t be able to justify the cost in contrast to similar scents with better prices I personally wasn’t impressed by it so it’s a pass

Fresh citruses (bergamot, lemon) on top of florals (rose, heliotrope, both lipsticky and a lovely dry iris, and a lot of violet/violet leaf) in the opening. Zegna's Iris has similarities to many existing fragrances without necessarily smelling 'like' any other fragrance. There's an obvious similarity to MFK's sheer, synthetic, laundry musk signature (Aqua Universalis) and this fragrance surely appeals to the typical MFK customer searching for the smell of contemporary 'clean'. Frederic Malle's L'Eau d'Hiver is present with its blend of cool white synthetic notes behind the gummy-sweet heart. There's also plenty of similarity to designer scents as well, from Montblanc's Individuel (Zegna use the same raspberry-leather accord found in Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, as does Individuel) to Dior Homme's era-defining use of iris (although note that Zegna is sparing on the 'lipstick' compared to the Dior). Unfortunately, there's also an all too familiar 'cheap' smell to it that could be found in most men's designer fragrances a decade or two ago (Montblanc Legend Spirit comes to mind, although there are many more I could mention) and may come across as a generic 'synthetic' quality redolent of hair spray, cheap body sprays at times. Overall, Iris is an intriguing blend of elements and the given note list leaves off a good of what the fragrance is about. After the citric-floral opening, this becomes a dryer sheet/washing powder musk fragrance on top of a spicy-woody, perhaps even 'leather', base. After an hour or so, Iris becomes Tuscan Leather doused in washing powder and put on a rinse and spin cycle. The cypriol/cedar base gives a surprising amount of edge to a fragrance that is already potent from the synthetic musks; despite the bright, light, and also surprisingly sweet main body of the scent, as it dries and the base comes through, it moves towards something more suitable for evening wear than something clean cut and ready for the office. Although Iris never becomes dirty, or base-heavy (it's well balanced between the bright, sweet, synthetic-metallic, and dark components), the cypriol in particular takes it away from the likes of Prada d'Homme (with which it shares obvious similarities) and puts it in its own category. It also adds masculinity to what - for the first few hours - comes across as something distinctly more feminine than unisex to my nose, with the end product being something that may be slightly challenging for both men and women to wear. Although not unpleasant, Zegna's Iris feels like a slightly off-target response to Dior's more 'noir' takes on the iris note - namely Dior Homme Intense. I'm not sure it works but it's a fairly well balanced fragrance, if a little challenging. Perhaps this is best suited for fans of the sweet-raspberry, rough and dark leather note made famous by Tuscan Leather and imitated/redeployed so many times since: Zegna has made the 'daytime' and soapy version for avowed fans of that accord. The opening and mid of Iris has promise as it clearly finds a sweet spot in the modern 'synthetic clean' genre that I find MFK's fragrances sometimes overshoot by being too full on but the woody-dark contemporary base adds a counterbalance to that that will probably either delight or disappoint the wearer.

Discontinuing this was absolutely CRIMINAL. Take all the fresh designer irises for men like Prada L'Homme L'eau, Prada L'Homme, Dior Homme Eau, Valentino Uomo Acqua, Givenchy Gentleman Cologne, and Infusion D'Homme and I'll tell you right now, NONE compare to this. Except for maybe OG Prada L'Homme. What you get here is the quintessential representation of freshly washed and dried white linen hanging out in the sun on a cool spring day. It's extremely beautiful and I'm sad it is discontinued, but I don't need to have it. As with any perfume. I ordered the CA perfume 403 Florentine Iris "Inspired by" and I will update you all on if it's a viable alternative to this edit: the opening is great, seriously 99% the same, however in the drydown it falls flat

Florentine Iris EDP can be described as clean, crisp and fresh-linen like. It's very soft and relaxing, not cloying which means you can wear it all year long should you fancy. This is possibly the farthest thing from synthetic I can imagine, the ingredients used smell pure and of the highest quality. Longevity is stunning, I can smell it 10-12 hours later. Although Florentine Iris is packed with florals, this is by no means feminine or feminine leaning, it's truly unisex and suits both genders equally as well. I believe this has now been discontinued as it's not available anywhere online and has also been removed from their website.

~several global wearings / decant Touch for Men Burberry, but it's niche. That's all folks. It's not >really< iris focused fragrance, violet/iris are 50:50 prominent. Opening is kinda harsh but in 10 min settles into violet/synthetic, clean musk/iris. Smells like fresh laundry. Easy to wear, versatile, perfect office fragrance etc. Nothing to write stories about, especially because you barely can smell anything although it sits in your skin for good several hours.

This is so good. Performance is also good for this type of scent. Beautifully crafted iris and violet note, with appropriate top note citruses, closing up with warmer resinous touches. It is simply addicting. Overdressed tuxedo or ordinary Italian suit, it is high fashion italian perfection. My favorite of the collection and of the house. Exceptional in multiple levels

This stuff is incredible - floral, intense, and unique. It's not cheap, but you definitely get your money's worth performance-wise. I've never really understood they hype around the Dior Homme (iris) scents, maybe I like this because of the violet, which is pretty prominent. Definitely a classic when it comes to masculine florals.

I managed to find a full bottle for $150 a month ago on a random community selling platform in SA. This absolute masterpiece of an Iris fragrance remains unmatched in my collection. I was informed by Zegna that they will be releasing a new range in September this year. I'm holding thumbs for some amazing fragrances from them.

I have about 30ml left of my bottle of the most incredible iris fragrance. Unmatched by any other iris fragrance I've tested. Very sad it's discontinued. I did email Zegna in the hope that they might know about some stock somewhere. No luck, but they did inform me that there is a new range coming soon. Let's hold thumbs.

finally got a sample, my girl said it smells like the dentist office and she hates the dentist lol. weird she likes prada l’homme though. i personally love this type of scent profile it’s relaxing and nostalgic but I would never pay what anyone is asking for a bottle of this

Albeit the fact that it’s made for men, it does have a feminine touch to it. But it’s one of my favorite purple fragrance. Pure purple vibe. Idk what that specific note is but it’s beautiful. Maybe it’s iris and violet combined, I like it. Good performance.
